Hotel Description:

Nestling amongst pine trees in northern Menorca and with direct access to a beautiful, sandy beach, the Confortel Sol Parc is well-established and offers traditional style accommodation. The recently decorated accommodation is built in various blocks, spread out amongst the spacious area of pine trees, and at varied levels, the walk to the upper blocks may not suit some elderly people, while younger families may prefer the tranquillity.

" Its really quite goos "

We went with a young family at the beginning of the season. I too had booked before reading the reviews so I was a little worried but neednt have been. I found the resort very clean and the accomodation was adequate. Although the resort is biased towards the dutch there is an italian presence too. I found the dutch kids reps did not include the english kids, however there were some italian kids reps and they were fantastic. My girls loved them. The food was ok wine beer and soft drinks were included on our visit, I would book half board as eating out is expensive and although there is a couple of small supermarkets they were quite expensive. This is a quite resort and the beach was beautiful and a short walk downhill but a long walk uphill (slight incline) bit hard in the heat.

Advice: Its really nice

" pleasantly surprised "

I booked a last minute deal with Sunset/Thomas cook holidays at The Sol Parc Menorca even after reading some less than complmentary reviews. The one bed apartment was a little dated however a good size and clean. It was extremely cool and very pleasant to sleep in at night with a very powerful wall mounted fan. The hotel was well equipped with a wonderful pool that was shaded by surrounding pine trees. The beach was close by and had a fantastic boarded walkway for easy access. The beach was a true delight and the hi-light of our family holiday.Hotel staff were very helpful and the on site doctor most efficient and professional unfortunately my 11 year old daughter needed to visit him on several occasions! We ate at the hotel on four occasions and the meals were of a high standard with something for everyone, I thought the Italain chef made a wicked Al-Forno!The surrounding restaurants/bars were a little quiet but all were friendly. The two local small supermarkets stocked everything needed. We had a super, if not quiet, break that the whole family enjoyed.

Advice: great beach fantastic staff

Activities: local fiesta

" Ignore Any Bad Reviews You Here About Sol Parc "

I booked my holiday to Menorca through On The Beach and was absolutely heartbroken after booking it and reading some very horrible reviews. I have to say now please ignore any bad reviews you may read about these apartments.
There were bad reviews about...
*the apartments not being clean - the cleaner comes every 2 days, changes the sheets and towels and cleans the apartment.
*the grounds being untidy - the gardener was there EVERY day.
*the apartments being dated - unless you go to a brand new apartment block you will find the same style in every place you go.
In all I had a great holiday, lovely weather, friendly staff and only a short 5 minute walk down to the beach.

" The worst hotel I have ever styaed in! "

This hotel is truly disgusting, we had a rat one night in our shower and the apartment's were all full of ants. This hotel has apparantly beign voted amongst the worst in spain. All i can say is if you go your in for a disaster, i honestly can not think of any good points. Staff were useless, the resort was small and empty, rooms were dirty, nowhere to eat, beach was full of thornes, entertainment was diabolical!! i would recommend this hotel to nobody!! DO NOT GO!!!

Advice: DO NOT GO!!! UNLESS YOU WANT THE WORST HOLIDAY EVER!!

Activities: THERE IS NONE!!!!

" Great For Young Family's "

We did not read review's on this Hotel or resort until after we had booked. But once we had, we read the review's and to be honest wondered if we had made a mistake.
Anyway we went through with it and are very glad we did.
For those people who wrote review's for us to read and slated the place, I would say that you must be related to Victor Meldrew. Yes there is a lot of shaded area's around the appartments, yes there is a lot of shade around the pool area, but this means it is great for kids. I personaly did not want my Children to fry and have to spend my entire holiday covering them in lotion.
The staff were great, the appartments were very clean if a little dated but had everything you would need except an electric kettle (take a travel one with you).
There are also alot of area's in the sun, all you have to do is use those things called legs. It has a great beach and some nice walks with good views. A good tennis court, crazy golf, volley ball and a fantastic playground in the sand for the kids. Pools are well maintained and clean with fun slides and poolside shower area.
The only downside I can really think of is the prices of drinks and snacks at the hotel. But if you are self catering and you plan it right (like anywhere) you can get over those prices by using local supermarkets and taking your own with you when needed.
Use Rent-a-Car (next to Rex's) to hire a car and see more of this wonderful island. by far the best prices.
For those with a young family who just want to chill out and relax without amusement arcades, banging music all day and night, GO FOR IT!

Advice: Great for those with young family

" This was a last min booking, not... "

This was a last min booking, not cheap, my Wife and I and two 4 year olds all paying £580.00 each for one week.
Appartment very small, old and dated, very depressing to be in. so we wernt very much! Children sleeping on a sofa with the bottom sliding out to provide another concrete matress.
Carry on camping with the tin kettle on a hot ring! if you want a toaster thats 11 euros to hire.
Resort 90% for Dutch tourists although they were very nice.
The kids club was great for the little ones providing you were Dutch! our children were not permited to take part in the activities. This is awful to explain to a child when a clown appears who will not aknowledge them as they were not wearing the correct T shirt.
Lots of shaddy areas to keep the sun off the children, overal facilities good for the children appart from the kids club!
Evening entertainment absolutly appauling.
Bar facilities need demolishing, in fact the entire appartment complex could really do with a major makeover.
most staff were polite.
Beach stunning.
Outside the complex......not much at all.
Would most definatly not return, we had a great fun week nevertheless but thank goodness it was only a week.
Sorry if I am causing anyone to worry.
By the way, our uk tour opperator listed this place as 3 star accomodation so we expected reasonable comfort, this translates to 2 keys in Menorca so beware.

" While we enjoyed ourselves and it was... "

While we enjoyed ourselves and it was a last minute booking my biggest complaint was it was mostly inclusive to german and dutch tourist. the children entertainment was catered for these children the first day we arrived we were the only irish there, also the queues for the pool bar was mostly catered for the german ^ dutch tourist the staff at the pool really tried but we could 5 to 10minutes waiting and at the nightly entertainment when we went there we never bothered to have a drink because the queue was so long they only has one person toserve and collect glasses. the apartment were basic but very clean. overall the restaurant and pubs are really affected because of the all inclusive, If you want a holiday that you never want to move outside the complex well this might suit you but there is not much outside the complex to stroll around at night time cos there is no life there. also one night myself and my daughter were sitting on the balcony (my daughter is 10) and we were talking and at 11 oclock some german shouted at us to shut up and go to bed as it was 11 oclock. so if you like to take your children out at night time or sit on your balcony and chat beware the complex seems to close down at about 10, The good point is that it is very safe for children but they should include all children on site.

" Dark, dismal, dissapointing. If you... "

Dark, dismal, dissapointing. If you like the sun on your balcony this is not the place for you. If you like bright, cheerful apartments this is not the place for you, if you like the company of Germans, Dutch, Belgians & hardly any British then this might be the place for you. The apartments are straight out of the early 70's, dark green & brown tiles everywhere, in most of them you can sit on the balcony & play spot the sky! If you like to be in a pine forest then this is an ideal location for you. There is no aircon, just a fan on the bedroom wall which we had to have on all the time. You DOOOOO need mosquito repellent. There are no electric kettles, just an old fashioned gas kettle that you have to heat on one of the two hotplates. Having said all that the maid service is good , they change towels & bedsheets every other day & the staff are friendly enough. In conclusion I would say that we would never, ever stay there again but it was cheap & I guess you get what you pay for!

" I think its an excellent hotel and... "

I think its an excellent hotel and place to stay its just a shame that its not in all the brochures. I think the only problem is behind where were the land was just mud no grass or anything and you could see straight to the shops/bars and restaurants. Overall thought its an excellent place and the staff are amzing and very friendly. The beach is lovely and the entertainment is good. We spent most of our time on the trampolines up next to Wilsons pub. I would recommend anyone to go and spend a week or two there as its amazing!

" I too read the reviews and was a bit... "

I too read the reviews and was a bit worried about going to Sol Parc. We had a wonderful holiday but I give fair warning that if you are looking for night life this is not the place! We have two young children so this was not a problem for us! The beach is fantastic and the kids had a great time despite the the weather not being so great. They have good play areas but no evening entertainment (unless your count the kids disco which was frequented by mainly under 3's).

The resort itself seems to have some work done on it and was clean and well cared for, the boardwalk down to the beach looked new and there was a lot of new plants around. The 'strip' of shops and resturants were okay but nothing special although I would recommend the Hong Kong Chinese resturant which was excellent and Anna was really great with the kids.

I liked Menorca but would recommend getting a car as there was no bus service to speak of and I never really saw any taxis in the resort. Fornells is quite nice for a posh meal, Mao and Citedella for shopping and the Wet and Wild park great fun if a little expensive (17Euros for adults 10E for kids).

" My daughter and I stayed in Sol Parc... "

My daughter and I stayed in Sol Parc three years in a row - 2003, 04 and 05. During our last holiday, the staff told us the complex was being taken over by a German company, and a First Choice rep informed us there would no longer be holidays to Sol Parc from the UK. To say we were disappointed was an understatement; we absolutely loved it, and the staff were amazing. On each occasion we returned, my daughter was greeted with great affection by the staff, particularly Maria who was the head waitress at the barbecue, and Vincente, one of the bar staff. Having read the reviews, I can see there have been some changes; however, I am glad my daughter, who is now eight, has some lovely memories of Sol Parc and the wonderful reception and affection we experienced there.

" After I had booked the holiday I... "

After I had booked the holiday I started reading some of the reviews on this accommodation and needless to say I was dreading my holiday.

It is not that bad but certainly not the best place or resort I have stayed in. It depends what you are after really. When we arrived the overall impression was of a British Holiday camp like Pontins but without the British (it is predominantly German). The rooms are very dark and outdated but I have to say our room was very, very clean and I could not complain about the maid service (every other day). The hotel is very near the beach but if you have walking difficulties or have pushchairs or small children with you you are going to struggle. The access to the beach is down, all I can describe, is a sand dune with a wooden walkway that is broken. Once you get there though, the beach is nice but very remote and there are no bars or shops near so once you are there you are there for the day!

Because of this we ended up travelling all holiday to Arenal and Fornells where the beach is nice. Unfortunately there are no buses to Arenal even though its next resort on and that costs 16 euros each way.

The resort in general is great for kids on a night; every bar has bouncy castles, go karts etc. The restaurants not over priced and a good selection for a small resort.

Hope this has kind of helped if you have booked!

P.S. Our ages are 32, 26, 3, 18 months.

" We have visited this hotel some 4... "

We have visited this hotel some 4 times previously and had an absolutely fantastic time which has prompted us to return again and again.

However, we missed last year’s annual summer hol and something has happened to the hotel during this period. Firstly, there is usually a lovely b.b.q. restaurant (which is still being advertised in the brochures) on site where you can enjoy a nice meal facing the stage whilst the little ones enjoy the nightly mini disco.

The b.b.q. restaurant no longer exists (apparently been shut for a year now) which means you have to go out to eat. There is a buffet restaurant on site but we only had breakfast there and it was the usual typical holiday buffet.

There is no evening snack bar either - just crisps sold from the bar (no ice creams or sweets). No longer any bar waiters which means a long queue to buy a drink (they don't sell cocktails!).

Entertainment was Flamenco TWICE! Chinese acrobats and a boring dance show (previous years have been fantastic). We had to get a taxi into Arenal D'en Castell for a bit of entertainment (The Temptations, Supremes, Boy band tributes) which are on at the Australian Outback bar.

The taxi cost approx 35 Euros return which we weren't expecting to shell out on all the time but Son Parc seems to close down at 10pm! The beach is absolutely fantastic though and is safe for children as it is very shallow (our kids are 10 and 5years). If you go out to eat at the strip do not eat at Mama Mias. There is a very nice friendly Chinese restaurant which is priced about the same as you'd pay back home.

Oh yes, multi-lingual people may enjoy this resort more as at the Son Parc at time of our stay there were only another 3 English Families. Rest of guests were mainly Spanish, Italian, and Dutch & German.

" The resort itself is really quiet so... "

The resort itself is really quiet so for those looking for evening entertainment and a wild time this wouldn’t suit.

However if you are looking for a tranquil place to recharge your batteries and escape the rat race its perfect.

The beach is stunning and is accessed by a board walk through the picturesque sand dunes.

The pool is surrounded by trees so there is always a shady spot to hide from the mid day sun. There are plenty of beds available for those who want to sunbathe and the water is cool and clean.

" I visited Son Parc with my husband... "

I visited Son Parc with my husband and three children at Whistun. Having never been to Menorca before we were unsure what resort to stay in and so took pot luck when booking.

Firstly I have to say the accommodation was wonderful, apartments were clean and bright and the site itself had everything you could wish for. Great for the kids. As for the beach the beach itself; would have been delightful had the water not been absolutely full of jelly fish, whether this was the time of year I do not know but we saw several people including children be stung.

The shops on the site itself were absolutely astronomically expensive and I would not recommend them either by choice or by price.

The village of Son Parc itself was very small and soulless, you could have been anywhere. There was hardly any choice of restaurants and no Spanish food available, just your usual chips and burgers and pizzas.

The resort is also quite away from any of the other resorts worth visiting so you definitely need a car.

WORD OF WARNING

Do not call out a doctor unless it is absolutely necessary, we had to call one for our child who had something stuck in his eye and he ended up being taken by private ambulance to Mahon (the other side of the island) and hospitalised completely unnecessary (we think to obtain money from our insurance company).
