Theoxenia = Fantastic!
from London-pair
My boyfriend and I recently returned from a week in Mykonos where we stayed at The Mykonos Theoxenia and we loved it! We always stay in good hotels when travelling so we are not easily pleased but this place was perfect in every way imaginable. Firstly I have to mention the location. The Theoxenia is perfectly located with stunning views over the crystal clear sea while still being just a 5 minute walk to the restaurants, bars and shops of Mykonos Town. As you may already know, the hotel was built in the 1960's and was reburbished in 2005 and the retro feel was perfectly preserved. With it's bare stone walls and brightly coloured furniture and artwork the reception and and bar area give a taste of whats to come throughout. The rooms are minimal without being stark and the beds were so comfy that we almost didn't want to get out of them in the mornings. We booked a superior room for our stay but when we arrived we were shown to a standard room. Although this room was lovely we were obviously dissapointed so we spoke to the front of house manager who assured us we would be moved as soon as another room was made available. We were moved 3 days later to a huge room that more than made up for the original dissapointment. We were thinking of not bothering to mention the so called 'mix up' with the room but after a previous post mentions exactly the same situation we felt we had to talk about this. In no way will it affect our overall rating of the hotel but I think the managers need to stop overbooking and fobbing certain guests off with rooms less than they are paying for! As I said, the first room was nice enough but the second room was outstanding. It had a massive king size bed with glass walls between the bedroom and the bathroom which had seperate shower and bath and a seating/dressing area led to a balcony with fab views of the Pool and Sea. The rooms were kept spotlessley clean and there was turndown service if required. Ample storage space was available and the amount of lamps and lights together with the cd player and mirrors made getting ready to go out stress free and fun. The furnishing in the bedrooms were bright in colour and good quality. The aircon was also welcome relief as the temperature was exceeding 30 degrees plus everyday. The pool area is really nice with plenty of sunbeds and parasols available. Pool towels are provided and you can borrow them to use at the beach if you need. The pool boy Manni is very friendly and easy on the eye! There are regular drink rounds and the staff are happy to help you with anything. During the day staff circulate with sorbets and ice cold flannels. There are also comfortable shaded sofas dotted around to enjoy the amazing sunsets whilst sipping a drink (We recomend a medium Frappe with milk!). The breakfast buffet was very good and had everything that you could want from pastries, cereals and fruit through to bacon and eggs etc.... We never ate at the main restaurant (because there was never any other guests in there) but did have lunch around the pool several times, the menu was the usual things like Sandwiches/Burgers/Pasta etc Prices were around 10 Euro for a club Sandwich, 4 Euro for a Soda and 5 Euro for a Beer. And everything we tried was fresh and of good quality. To sum up our stay the staff, surroundings, accomadation and location were second to none. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when we return to Mykonos - we just hope that next time we get the room we booked upon arrival! Check out our trip report for our thoughts and opinions on the rest of our holiday!
Enjoyed the Theonenia
from KFJH
We visited the Theoxenia in May of this year - we think this is one of the best months to visit as its not too hot, not very busy and flowers everywhere. We echo the positive points of many reviewers and would happily recommend the hotel as a great place to stay. Do visit the hotel's website as it is very accurate and covers most things you need to know. Pros: Stylish, great position, friendly staff, great food Cons: Car park at the front is ugly, bit pricey, usual greek foibles!
Perfect

Just returned from a week at the Theoxenia and wanted to add my praise for this lovely hotel. We had a smallish room overlooking to pool/garden which was very comfortable, clean and stylish. The pool area is really lovely with comfortable loungers and plenty of space. Pool itself cool and refreshing. The thing that really makes this hotel stand out though, apart from the beautiful decor and funky furnishings, are the staff who are so friendly and attentive and really make an effort to provide you with that extra level of comfort. As well as the aforementioned complimentary ice cream and cocktails we were also treated to an ice cold flannel every day whilst laying by the pool. What luxury! Breakfast was fantastic with an enormous choice - you can even have champagne if you so choose. The spa offers massage in a poolside cabana if you feel the need to leave the comfort of the lounger! All in all this place is superb. Fantastic location close to all the town's bars and restaurants but quiet and secluded for a good night's sleep. Many thanks to all at the Theoxenia for making our stay on Mykonos memorable and indulgent.
Best Location in Mykonos!
from GlobalJana
We spent 4 days in the Theoxenia Mykonos in May 2007. The location of the hotel is the best in Mykonos if you're there to experience Mykonos town (shopping, nightlife, restaurants). Its located close to the famous windmills and is just a few minute walk to all the shopping and nightlife (very close to Old Venice area), yet it is on the coast so you can see the water and its not very noisy. The pool area is awesome - very spacious and they even bring around sorbets every hour! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful also. Parking is also included if you've rented a car (which we did - so we could drive to the beaches). If you're looking for nightlife - I would recommend El Dorado (upscale lounge/club), Celebrities (more of a locals lounge), Space (large club), and any of the lounges/restaurants in the Old Venice area (its very easy to bar hop here).
Loved the Theoxenia!
from EggBristol
I have just returned from a week at the Mykonos Theoxenia and loved it! This hotel, and especially the staff exceeded all our expectations. We stayed in a superior room initially which was small but perfectly formed and very comfortable if slightly cramped. We arrived in Mykonos to terrible weather which resulted in a leak in our room - the very friendly manager apologised profusely for this and immediately up-graded us to one of their junior suites. This new room was excellent and huge! We ate in the hotel restaurant on 2 nights - both times the food and service was great. We had our two best meals in Mykonos at this restaurant and definitely recommend it. The hotel pool was also good and every afternoon complimentary ice creams or sorbets are bought round followed by champagne cocktails, which was a great touch. Over all, I would recommend the Mykonos Theoxenia to anyone who is looking for a very relaxing holiday in a friendly and stylish hotel.
favourite place in the world

I cannot believe some of the negative reviews on this website. This is why i am writing this to inform people that this hotel was one of the best hotels that we stayed in Europe last year (this included dubai, amalfi, berlin) .The hotel is located in a fantastic position. The rooms were immaculate and the staff and manager (eleni, hristo haralambos) were extremely friendly. We were very sad to say goodbye. As a teacher of hospitality i must say that the hotel exceeded my expectations in regards to service and style, given that it was my fourth time in mykonos i plan to return this year and ofcourse stay at mykonos theoxenia. Best Location and Best Hotel in Mykonos
from Globetrotter74
A friend of mine and I stayed at the Mykonos Theoxenia for three nights in early September 2006. We originally booked a superior garden view room at $271 USD per night through the hotel. After traveling to Crete and Santorini, we were anxious to settle in and explore Mykonos. Unfortunately upon our arrival, the hotel manager escorted us to an available room that did not have a view or even a balcony/patio. It was small yet clean and he assured us that he would move us to a proper room the next day. True to his word, not only were we moved to another room, the hotel manager UPGRADED us to a suite that more than compensated for the previous night. He situated us in Room #303 and it was FANTASTIC!!!!!!! The room, the bathroom and the balcony were all spacious and amazing. The hotel manager's gracious and fair act of kindness certainly made our hotel experience! The hotel has free Internet access as well as a complimentary transfer to and from the port and airport. The pool area is nice and we found the property to be fairly quiet while being so close to all of the action. The hotel is literally feet away from the infamous Windmills and is only a few feet away from both the town and the bus stop to the beach. This is the BEST hotel in the BEST location. This was my second trip to Mykonos and I would only considering staying at the Theoxenia if I ever returned!
Good quality hotel, excellent location but expensive
from TheWearyTraveller
A fantastic hotel in a great location in the centre of town. It's right by the windmills away from the noise and chaos of the town streets but still within a step of Little Venice. The decor is 1960's but stylish and the pool area has plenty of very comfortable sun beds and rest areas for lounging. All the white sheets and covers on the beds and seats are changed each day and I found the staff to be helpful and freindly. The pool was very cold but it was fresh water - many Mykonos hotel will have sea water only pools. The breakfast was good, full buffet; fruits, cold cuts, salad, fish, bacon, mushrooms, sausage, eggs, cheese pies, cakes etc - No complaints. Rooms were confortable with great seafacing views. Of course when in Greece things do not always go to plan even in the expensive hotels! We were supposed to be picked up at the airport by the hotel mini bus, but there was some confusion with our email request and this did not happen. It was however very easy to get a taxi (8 euro) as the airport is only 15 mins away from town. In addition as an apology when we arrived the manager upgraded us to a suite - which was a nice touch! Over all it was an excellent hotel but expensive. Better value for money can be found outside Town or at the beach resorts. But if you want to be centrally located and in a relaxing environment - this is to be recommended!
Not cheap, but stylish, relaxing and friendly
from Claire2306
We got a really good deal over the web, booking a week just before the season proper got underway at around £90 a night. It's not worth paying extra for the rooms with unobstructed sea views, due to the public walkway that goes by just over the low wall. Very friendly reception and service from all the staff, including the manager, who was courteous and informative. Among the very best breakfast selections we've ever come across - varied from day to day but always interesting and very high quality. Elsewhere on the island we found the food to be hugely disappointing - even in places highly recommended by guides and/or locals. London prices but Swindon quality. Probably worth paying for chance to stay at this hotel - if you can afford it - even at the normal higher rates. Really nice around the pool area, with complimentary cocktails appearing during most afternoons. We enjoyed the music around the restaurant and bar area - but maybe a bit trendy and modern for some. Trendy minimalist decor generally, which we really liked.
The best in Mykonos
from ChicagoSteven
I have read all the reviews and am CERTAIN that any negative review has been written by a competing hotel. Theoxenia is the best in Mykonos. Having stayed at the Belvedere for 4 summers, I was reluctant to stay at Theoxenia. The Belvedere is stylish, expensive and first-class.....and was completely booked when I tried to reserve a room this year. Theoxenia beats the Belvedere in every way, except for the pool area. If The Belvedere pool area is an A+, Theoxenia pool area is a B++. The rooms at Theoxenia are much larger, very modern, the service and food are great and the people that stay there are a little less pretentious. Theoxenia is just as expensive as the Belvedere, but you do not feel taken in any way. I have already booked for next year! Thoxenia staff are truly service oriented. I can not believe any of the negative reviews that I have read. Perhaps some people do not know what to expect in a European hotel and perhaps some of the other hotels are a bit envious of the newly renovated and luxurious Theoxenia. A perfect time was spent at this hotel for the past 15 nights.

We adore Mykonos and wanted a very good quality, quirky hotel really close to the centre of Mykonos town. Theoxenia Hotel fitted the bill superbly. My husband and I went in mid-September and got great weather, although the season was just about at it’s' end. The hotel is... more
