Good location and very friendly staff
from Mil4d
We stayed 2 nights at Hotel Mercure Grimaldi and were impressed by the location and the staff at this hotel. The room is adequate and clean. The breakfast is great. You cook your own boil egg to your liking. The hotel is within walking distant to all the attractions. It was a very enjoyable experience to walk around the old town and the bus ride to Monaco was the highlight of our trip. We had a lovely day there and a nice lunch at a local cafe with entertainment provided by the cafe's regular patrons. We had a lovely meal at a little restaurant next to Hotel Grimaldi, down the road from the hotel. The proprietress is a character and her much loved dog is a source of amusement for the patrons. We really enjoyed Nice. It is colourful and full of interesting little shops and restaurants. I would recommend this hotel for its location and friendly staff.
Great location!

We stayed here for one night at the end of January, before catching a flight home at the end of a 10-day trip to France. The (non-smoking) room was a bit bland, but still comfortable. The bathroom was surprisingly large and much more upt-to-date than the rest of the room, but it's possible that it was a handicapped-accessible bathroom and therefore might not be the same as others in the hotel. The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station, and probably about 5 minutes from the bus stop for the #98, the airport bus (the stop is on the north side of the Promenade des Anglais and very well signed; I highly recommend this option for getting to the airport -- 4 euro!). It's also just a block from the shops & restaurants of the pedestrian zone. I'm sure there are hotels in Nice that are more charming, but we were happy with the location and the price (76 euros).
Excellent hotel

I stayed in this hotel for three nights in early January. I booked my room through Hotels and got an excellent rate: 65 euro a night. The hotel is centrally located (beside the pedestrianised zone) and therefore bars and restaurants are only two minutes' walk away. The old town is also a short stroll away. Despite this central location, I could hear very little noise from the street. Only a handful of people was staying in the hotel during my three nights there, so it was very quiet at all times. All the staff members were extremely pleasant and helpful. They spoke good English and didn't laugh at my attempts to use French! The bar is open 24 hours a day, which is handy. My room was spacious and clean and the bed was large and comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel. It was difficult to find many faults with it.
Great place, great location
from Cobdeners
Even as nervous, novice travellers on our own mini 'package'trip to Nice,we couldn't fault the Mercure Grimaldi's friendly service, facilities and location. We arrived a day late, thanks to bad timing on our part(that'll never again) coupled with a fog-bound motorway pile up that meant we missed our flight. We phoned the hotel from UK to say when we'd be arriving a day late - but when we got there, our room had been re-let. There'd been a mix up on reception apparently. But we were quickly sorted out, upgraded to a better room - and treated to complimentary drinks later. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and that kept us going throughout the day until evening meal time when there were more than enough restaurants to choose from. The Grimaldi is in a great location, close to the Promenade des Anglais, the Marches des Fleurs, hundreds of shops and public transport. Bus 98 from the airport costs only 4 euros per person one way - compared with the 33 euro trip quoted by taxi drivers. The return-to-airport trip goes from bus stop (Gustav) that's a few minutes from the hotel, and a 100metres from the Tourist Information office where we got maps and advice during our stay. Also got a map at the airport, along with bus tickets. Maps are essential round Nice where it's easy to get lost in the criss cross grid of pedestrianised areas and roads. The old part of Nice, the Flower Market and the port are easy to find, using maps as we did on our first day. Not easy without, as we found on our second day when we were a bit too confident. Just as well local people are friendly, most speak some English or at least understand Franglais.
Great Location - and value
from A TripAdvisor Member
The Hotel is pretty basic but the room was fine, with a safe and a minibar. Everything worked. Good value for money. Staff very helpful and friendly. The hotel is in a great location, very near to resturants, nightlife and the beach. Main bus stops are right outside and the train station only a 15 minute walk. It is within walking distance of the Flower Market and the harbour end of town. Took trains to Monaco and Cannes and a couple of buses out of town. Both forms of transport are cheap. Only needed a taxi to and from the airport (20E to Nice / 30E to airport). Would definitely recommend to any sightseer.

Stayed here for 4 nights in a family room - proper bed for our teenage son, not just a camp bed which is more usual. First class buffet breakfast - comparable to 4 star offerings. Large number of non smoking rooms available. Efficient maid service. Great location - pedestrian area, beach, station, old town all within walking distance, yet on a quiet street. Staff friendly and helpful. Mini-bar prices very reasonable and fridge could be used for our own drinks. Bedrooms have a safe - refundable deposit required for key. Would definitely stay here again.
Very good!!
from jojo.b
I stayed with my friend and 3 year old son for 3 nights on 07.09.05. We arrived at 9am and the male receptionist was very helpful. He showed me the room we were allocated although it wouldn't be ready until about 11am. He suggested it may be a lttle small for our needs (being a triple room) and when I saw it I thought so too - the extra bed took all extra space. He informed us that he would then upgrade us to a luxury room!! This room had loads of space with large en suite and separate toilet - although the decor and amenities appeared the same as the standard room! Anyway, we didn't have breakfast at the hotel but the location is great - everything is nearby. I can't complain about anything here as we enjoyed our stay very much. This is the 5th time I've holidayed in Nice and this hotel is a lot better than others I've been in. Recommended.
What a nice hotel!

My husband and I've spent 3 nights at this hotel. For €120.00/night we're given a clean, quiet and spacious room with internal view. Bathroom seemed recently renovated. Staff was very helpful, but if you are interested in transportation or in booking daily trips the tourist office (2-min walk from the hotel) will provide you with better prices and more detailed info. Mercure Grimaldi is not located on the famous Promenade des Anglais, but it's in a strategic location. Restaurants and pubs are 1 block from the hotel, and the Promenade/beach is at 2 blocks only. Train station is not far, but be prepared to a 10-min walk. Cannes and Montecarlo can be easily reached by train. Flunch (excellent buffet restaurant) is next to the train station. Although the area around the Mercure gets really crowded and noisy at night, the street where the hotel is located, is very calm and quiet. Also, if you're not familiar with the area, driving can be crazy. Be aware that the hotel is not on the main street, so, just keep in mind that the Mercure Grimaldi is located 2 blocks behind McDonald/Le Meridien Hotel. If you've rented a car with Europcar, the drop off/pick up office is close to McDonald and at just 1 block from the hotel. Nice - nice choice. I recommend this hotel to everyone with no hesitation!
Fantastic breakfast!
from 06sun
I really enjoyed my stay at the Mercure Grimaldi. I spent one week in this hotel and would love to go back. Great service. Very friendly staff. The rooms were clean and modern. The beds were comfortable. The buffet breakfast was excellent (eggs, bacon, ham, bread, cheese, fresh fruit and juice, yogurt, cereal, croissants...) Great location, 5 minute walk to the beach and 10 minute walk to la Gare Routière (bus to go to Cannes, Eze, St-Paul).

We decided to have a long weekend away, and choose Nice as we could get cheap flights! I researched Nice (attractions) & hotels on the Internet, and choose the Mercure Grimaldi as it was reasonably priced, and was in the area I had chosen - near to the sea-front & Old Town.... more
