Lafayette Hotel

Wonderful friendly staff, all of whom are multi-lingual and very knowledgeable, a beautifully clean and comfortable room with all facilities, perfectly situated near the centre of town, handy for the beach, the train station, the bus station and the restaurants. What more could anybody want? There's no lift, though, and all the rooms are on the first floor, so disabled people would struggle a bit. Arriving at this hotel was a little strange, as only one floor of this building is the hotel. The owners were very good natured and cheerful. Our room was drab, but large and comfortable. The location was great -- easy walking to the old city, and to the beach. There was a fabulous Alsatian restaurant across the street, and an excellent Italian restaurant around the corner. Right next door was a great little carryout-type lunch place. Breakfast was disappointing. In the bathroom, there was a box of tissues!

The hotel sign says 'Small & Friendly' and that's exactly what this hotel is. Small rooms, very close together (if you have noisy neighbours, you'll certainly hear them). Nice continental breakfast, 8 Euros a bit much for what it is, but would probably cost you more to buy breakfast at a bakery etc. Best thing about hotel is location, 10 minute walk from bus station, a bit further to train station, there is a bus stop 50 yards along the road it you want to go West to Cannes etc. Very close to Galaries Lafayette shopping centre and about 10... more

Stayed at this small but extremely friendly hotel one night. The location was great - rigtht behind the Galeries Lafayette (department store) next to the shopping street Jean Medecin and near the beach (about 200m) and the Old Town. The service at the reception was excellent. I highly recommend this hotel.

Small Hotel with I think 8 rooms - all on first floor without lift - but staff offer help with baggage. Very nice staff - all helpful and courteous . Room had 2 double beds - enough room - very clean and tidy - bathroom with shower just the same. Balcony overlooked the street. Its a good location too - short stoll from the from old town, the sea and the station. We were 2 adults and a child and paid £65-£70 in may. Ok no sea views etc but this is a good straight forward value for money, clean ,friendly hotel..really cant think how anyone... more

We just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel in June 2006. Our first choice was another more expensive hotel, but that was booked, and I'm glad we found this hotel. The hotel advertises itself as "small and friendly". The staff was indeed very friendly and accomodating. For example, we had some olive spread left over from the market that we wanted to eat on our last night in France - we didn't have any bread, so we asked if there was any left over from breakfast that we could buy for a Euro or two - the Scottish gentleman at the... more

Arrived in Nice with some apprehension about the people, but this was dispelled when we met the staff at the Lafayette hotel. Nothing could be any bother to them. They gave us information on anything we asked for, and super directions to anywhere we wanted to go.The continental breakfast was quite good and the room was much better than reasonable.When we go back to Nice we will be staying in this most friendly and central hotel.

Ok hotel, location fine, nice italian restaurant around the corner. There is construction on the Avenue Jean Medicin, so unimpressed with Nice in general this June... We didn't have breakfast here as it was an extra charge- we just found various patisseries and boulangeries to get brioche, croissants etc Manager was very nice. The carpet in our room could have stood a little steam cleaning though. Bathroom was fine, very clean. Bear in mind, the lift does not start from the ground floor. While doing a walking tour of Nce in search of an acceptable hotel in the city centre area, we accidentally discovered the Hotel Lafayette on the rue de l'hotel des postes. It is a realatively small hotel, on the second floor of a building diagonally across from the rear corner of the Galaries Lafayette. It is close enough to the Vieux Nice section as well as the pedestrian street area in the centre of Nice and the baie des anges area, Promenade des Anglais, etc. etc. The room was decent size with two double beds, a reasonably updated... more

I would recommend this hotel. The management was friendly, the hotel quiet, the room and bath were nice although there was some peeling paint in the bathroom. The location, not too far from Old Nice, the beaches and the train station, was just right. We contacted the hotel directly and were quoted 90 Euros a night, but thru venere--- we paid only 64 Euros a night. We did not spend the extra for breakfast.
