My husband and I are big Bob Marley and Reggae fans and are celebrating our Pearl wedding anniversary this year, so chose to go to Jamaica and stay at the Riu Club hotel Ocho Rios. This hotel is huge and we weren't sure if we would get the quality we were expecting, but we... more

Gorgeous hotel and location. Loved it, enjoyed everyday of our 2 weeks there. The food and drinks were very good. The themed restaurants, which you have to book, were excellent. Get them booked first thing in the morning at the start of the holiday, as tables get taken up... more

Food very poor, great choice but cooked badly. Not much for kids to do, kids club really for toddlers. Entertainment gets boring and repetitive especially second week when you’ve seen them all. Exchange rate at hotel a joke and everything priced in dollars American but... more

I stayed in the Riu Ocho Rios in May this year. It is a brilliant hotel and after seeing some of the other hotels in the area I realised I definitely made the right choice. The rooms were always kept nice and cool by the ceiling fan. The AC was not needed to often but if... more

Fantastic hotel don’t believe any negative reviews.
The complex is very big but the only place where it gets crowded is Showtime in the evenings.
Plenty of choice of restaurants at all meal times.
Staff are very friendly rooms are very clean.
I’ve stayed in lots of hotels and this was by far one of the best!

Marriage license problems
My husband and I got married in Ocho Rios in July. The wedding was fantastic, literally only took 15 minutes of planning. The resort was nice (somewhat outdated) and the people were great. There were multiple power outages which were kind of a pain to deal with but overall we had a nice time. However, it is now the middle of October and I have not received my marriage license. We were told 10 to 12 weeks so I called on the 12th week and was told that was how long it took to process then it would be mailed. Mid-October I am still without a marriage license which is quite frustrating as I cannot legally change my name anywhere and we paid $150. When I call no one seems to understand my concern but it is a big deal. I would not reccommend getting married there unless you are not changing your name. I would like to report them to the better business bureau but who knows if that would help!!
Loved it!
The only gripe we had was the transfer from the airport, as usual we end up choosing somewhere with a long un', over an hour :/ Next time we'll get a helicopter and arrive in style :) We booked the best we could afford, *ahem, the cheapest, a mountain view room, imagine our surprise when we were shown to our 'ocean view' room. I glanced at the missus while the guy was showing us in and mouthed the word, 'shush'. From there on in it just got better, food was great, loved the bayside restaurant, loved the fact that that 'premium drinks' meant just that. Nice atmosphere, staff pleasant, even though you've got to remember they get paid a wage and are not supposed to accept tips, which I ignored and got better service for. I scuba dive and the lads that run it are excellent, (if you go, which you should, tell Dennis, Marcus from England said hello and hope he's keeping well). Getting the scuba lads a beer after a dive is a good idea for preferential treatment. One minor thing, I wanted to learn to water ski but you had to be up early before the sea became, (in Curtis's words) "too choppy mon", early being 8am'ish, too early for me after a night of cocktails and local homegrown 8) All in all a great adults only resort, would definitely go back tomorrow if the world didn't have so many other fabulous places to visit. 10/10
What a disappointment
I have traveled to many caribbean islands for many times, and I am quite disappointed with Couples Ocho Rios during my trip there in September 2003. First of all, it's definitely not worth a six-star rating. The room and bathroom were small and they looked old. The beach was small and messy with seaweeds all over in and out of the water. Food selection was limited and it was not the best I had have. The restaurants were only open for certain days and hours. When we were there in early Sept, the only place we could eat for lunch was the buffet restaurant, which I am not a big fan of. For dinner, Le Gourmet and Bayside served a la carte items, but the seletion was very small, and the food is far less impressive than the food we had on a cruise or other resorts. The Verandah restaurant looks nice, but menu didn't even web my appetite so we didn't even go there. The entertainment at night was lame, we walked out after sitting in for 10 minutes. The only thing to for us to do at night was hanging out in the piano bar, even tho all they played was recorded music. Secondly, the all-inclusive activities are over-rated. For scuba diving, there were supposed be 2 one-tank dive everyday. But when we were there, it was always one-tank only, and never got to do night dive even we requested for it. And the dive itself was the worst I have ever had. There were close to nothing in terms of marine life, and water visibility was poor. If you go there for the diving, this is the wrong place for you. Water skiing, didn't get to do it at all... first there wasn't enough staff to get the boat ready, then there was concern on the waves even tho it was a perfect sunny calm day. Wind-suring, there was only one beginner's board avaiable, and it's being used for the lesson everyday and I couldn't use it during the peak afternoon hours. The only interest thing on this trip was the Dunn's River Fall tour. So overall, if you just want to relax and do nothing, and not expect quality food, then the place is ok. But if you are like me, who goes for the sport and activities and food, then don't waste your time and money here in Couples Ocho Rios.
Excellent Vacation...well worth it ! No problem mon
Well what can I say other then EXCELLENT! Had the best time at couples, the resort was beautiful and our oceanview room was awsome. what a view looked out our window and looked straight out to Tower Island...Which i must say you have to try. I'm not big onnaked islands, but you only live once. Staff was great, we are already planning our trip back next year, No prolems with bugs or musty smell which I read some reviews. Food was great wide varity of stuff and of course all the BOOZE you can consume. I wouldn't do the shopping trip again, I would go on my own, very depressing and you get hounded to buy stuff, If you can get one of the workers staff and pay them on the side to take you around town, Look for Valentine he's a great tour guide! He took us to Bob Marley it was a great day!
Couples in Heaven
My wife and I just completed a honeymoon week at the Couples Resort from 8/31 thru 9/5/03...It was everything I had anticipated and more. The food was superb. The service was magnificent and the activities available were fantastic. I have never had a more enjoyable time anywhere and we are already planning our anniversary trip back. You cannot go wrong with this selection. Try to get an ocean view if you can. It is breathtaking.
Leaving for the 3rd time in 2...count 'em 2 weeks!!!
Creatures of habit? Maybe... but on 10/4/03 we are packing our bags (yes..they are lighter than the first 2 visits!) and head back to the fabulous COUPLES Ocho Rios. In 1999, We were married at the resort... we call it our weddingmoon! Had such a relaxing, wonderful time that we went back again in 2001... and now again in 2003. If you want value for your dollar... this is the place. You will be treated like royalty at this high end resort. We could go on and on... but you just have to try it yourself! Irie!!!
Our 25th
We were lucky enough to go to couples in ocho rios for our 25th anniversary.Everything about it was AWESOME to say the least. The people ,the food, the surroundings, the atmosphere was more than you would imagine. When we arrived back home Everybody thought we looked relaxed and stress free, which we were.We had villa suite #10.It was .very private, yet we had evertyhing we needed at our fingertips. The service was excellent as was everything else.My husband had just had unexpected knee surgery and the trip had been planned far in advance. The staff was very accomidating and we had a GREAT Time!We are looking forward to going back for our 30th.We would reccomend couples to anyone that wants to just get away from it all.
Wedding of my dreams
All I can really say is WOW. My wedding was more than I ever imagined thanks to Couples Ocho Rios. Loved my flowers, the champaign reception, and the minister was great. We arrived to a light rain on August 30th, but by Sept. 1st, my wedding day, the weather was absolutely perfect. We were in a one bedroom suite that surpassd our expectations - a beautiful ocean view with some many windows giving a great view where every you chose to look out. The Jacuzzi tub worked great!!The staff was wonderful as well. My husband and I have 10 cruises between the two of us and we never had such wonderful service. With just one price we got to snorkel, windsurf, climb Dunn's River Falls, go horseback riding, take a Catamaran cruise, do a woodcarving class, sail, take a glass bottom boatride, dance through the night, and we could have done much more if our bodies didn't require rest. The food was a little above cruise quality (but the Verandah and Bayside were excellent! - ate at both twice). If you want a memorable, wonderful, romantic, and affordable wedding/honeymoon - I would highly recommend Couples Ocho Rios!Brides - one perk is that you get your pictures the day after your wedding (not the months it takes traditional wedding photographers).
Beautiful, Wonderful, Fabulous...
I was married at Couples Ochos Rios on August 30th and everything was beautiful. I had 13 guests - they stayed at Beaches Grande Sport - and everything went smoothly. It rained on my wedding day, however, the wedding coordinators made sure that I had a fabulous, unforgettable day. Our pictures are flawless and the video surpassed our expectations. (Thanks to Maxine, Kerry Ann, PaPa and Patrick) The resort, although an older resort was wonderful! Couples definitely has an intimate and friendly atmosphere. We had an oceanview suite that offered a beautiful view of the ocean. (Sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking and the sound of waves crashing was the best!) ALL of the employees that we encountered were extremely polite and were pleased to offer their services. The Verandah restaurant had great food. (The lamb dishes were excellent.) Bayside is really romantic and the food was also good. The buffet was a buffet but there was a lot offered. My husband an I travel quite frequently ...our trip to Couples will undoubtedly be one of our most memorable. I was not ready to leave and am ready to book a reservation for next year!
Absolutely Fantastic!
My husband and I honeymooned at Couples Ocho Rios the week of August 16-23. It was the most wonderful vacation! I do not have one complaint. The restaurants were all fantastic. We ate at Bayside twice. They have really great food. George and Alvaro are great and the staff is so eager to get you anything you need. The Verandah restaurant was wonderful! We had Ribeye steak one night that was as good as any steak here in the states. The appetizers were great and the staff there was really helpful as well. The buffet restaurant always had good food. It is a buffet, so you have to make allowances. Overall, though I have no complaints. They even have these guys that make you deli sandwiches. They take such care in making them. It's fun to watch! The entertainment staff was a lot of fun. Especially Cashetne (Energizer Bunny). She's pretty wild! We went to Dunn's River Falls and everything was paid for. The only thing we had to do was tip the drivers. The staff is not allowed to take tips, so don't even try. They have a very strict policy on that. We heard the employee can get fired if they take it. The grounds are beautiful and they take such care in keeping them that way. It is a little slice of heaven there. Every morning we would sit in the open air restaurant and look at the ocean, it was amazing. The nice part about this resort is that it's beach is completely cut off on both sides. It is absolutely impossible to just walk on the property without being noticed. I felt very safe and right at home. We hope to return someday! It was the most relaxing and rejuvenating vacation ever. YOU MUST GO!
