Mixed Feelings
from Angiwange
The room was quite nice and the food was fine. Don't be fooled by the "nile view" from the swimming pool. This very small pool actually overlooks a busy main road and then the nile is after that. Not in a very nice area but this didn't matter as we were on an organised tours. Main problem was the staff behind the counter. I had booked paid for half board but they tried to charge me even after they had double checked that I had paid. They were not helpful or polite about the mix up. They then charged me the equivanlent of £18...

Very Nice Time
from cat2tvl
We arrived in the afternoon. After clearing the Xray machines at the front door. We went to the desk to check in and they said no reservation however we pulled out our confirmation copies and how quickly they found our 3 rooms. We had rooms on the 2nd floor ,rear facing. They rooms were clean, large and quiet. The gentleman who serviced our room was fantastic. He even delivered flowers to us one morning. We had the corner room so we could look over the side to see the Nile. We had 1 large complimentary bottle of water and a small fruit plate...

OK French Hotel
from ARK_Travelers
We lucked out at this hotel because for us it had everything that we needed including a large varied breakfast (both Egyptian and Western choices), a shuttle to the city center (Maadi is about 15 minutes away by car/taxi), a swimming pool, and a view of the Step and Red Pyramids. Pros + Shuttle to City Center + Great Attentive Staff + Maadi has so many good restaurants within 5-10 minute walking distance + Supermarket next door + You can charter a felucca ride (go across the main street to the river side, and...

Nice place in the City....
from Passport_girl
This hotel is close to the sights and sounds of the city. Sometimes at night, the traffic can get a little noisy which makes it hard to settle down but then that's a price you pay for being in the heart of the city. There is a great department store a few doors down which we frequented for late night snacks and last minute gifts (..can't remember the name!). Overall, a good location and great service.
Comfortable, but not great
from danielfromwales
I second suggestions to ask for a room at the front. Being able to see the pyramids, though distant, is magical! The rooms at the back have a less pleasant aspect (and also suffer sometimes from noisy parties). The public areas are reasonably comfortable, and the food acceptable. The pool is decent, and the distant view of the pyramids adds to the experience. The hotel made one inexcusable error. When I settled the bill for the meals on the last morning, the bill included the cost of the rooms (which had been pre-paid)....

Nice Hotel but location pushes up its price
from ARealHighlander
I stayed in this hotel on and off for a month at a time while attending work. The hotel is located in Maadi which is a big home for a lot of oil and gas companies and expats. A lot of the hotels guests are workers or people visiting these companies. It is also popular with tourists, the Nile side rooms have a freat view and you can see the Pyramids (if its not too smoggy!). The pool is great, but dont expect a lot of peace as its located at the front with the constant Grand Prix that is Cairo traffic just down below you. The...

Do not stay at this hotel if you want to be iced down after a day sightseeing. We moved rooms once but the air-conditioning was only marginally better than the previous room. We were offered the chance of yet another move but figured there was more to a holiday than moving suitecases each day. Staff was friendly and helpful, the pool was great with no screaming kids but the breakfast was decidedly uninspiring. Nevertheless overall it was good value for money.
a very good place to stay
from A TripAdvisor Member
We enjoy, i and my 2 children, our 2 nights stay in this Sofitel: very good accomodations, pleasant and large bedrooms, welcome staff, large choice for breakfast, a pleasant small shopping center after the lobby, a small but nice swimming pool overlooking the nile... Facing the nile, there is no interesting place to go around, except a supermarket immediately on the right hand side of the hotel. You can go and have a walk on the street around, it is very safe. Well, a good deal !
Pyramids from the Pool!
from YorkshireDales
Stayed here in July '04 - 3 nights. Definitely ask for a room with Nile view (front of hotel). Spectacular and alot better than rooms at the back with built up view. Rooms are spacious, clean and functional with balconies. Staff are helpful and there is a small shopping area in the hotel. Breakfast plentiful and restaurant overlooks Nile. Road is very noisy and busy, but that's Cairo. Yes, hotel is not centrally located, but taxis are abundant and very cheap. Tip: don't stand outside hotel entrance and flag a taxi - driver will have...

it got better!
from ezmee
We had a bit of trouble on arriving here as the shower was broken in the room and despite sending people to fix it, we got a room change to a Nile view which was fantastic! Ask for a room on the front else you get a view of roofs! Despite the half hour cofuffle over the room change which seemed to confuse the entire staff?!? we were very pleased with the rest of the stay. Didn;t use the pool as it didnt look too inviting in February! Good hotel, maybe a bit far out. Not much around the immediate location.
