" amazing "

Didn't know what to expect after reading some reviews on here before we went but when i arrived i was pleasently suprised! had a wonderful holiday the rooms are nice and clean the cleaners are lovely, food is nice good variation something for everyone, even had a chocolate fountain one night! entertainment during the day is brilliant for children and adults... have childrens clubs and day time activities for the adults including water polo, water basketball and go on the beach for volley ball. Night time entertainment is fab! different shows every night, entertainers are fun and energetic keep everyone involved. The waiters are friendly and helpful. Pool is a good size also have a jacuzzi and a childrens pool however the beach is only a few steps from the front doors of the hotel so always have that option. Hotel is close to everything 5 minutes from the water park, 20 mins from salou and tarragona. Bus stops are 2 minute walk from hotel and easy to use. Loads of shops and restraunts near hotel deffinetley worth going to 'the waterfront' lovely food and service!!....Overall excellent holiday will be going back loved it!!

" this is a great hotel! "

I have been to this hotel 3 times in the past and would love to go again.
the staff are all soo friendly and will always have a chat to you. When i was at donaire park, the night time entertainment was excellent, so was the day time. they have always got pool matches and such like for everyone to join in with. The kids club is great aswell, my neice loved it there so much she didnt want to leave!
the ONLY thing wrong with the hotel, well not so much wrong but not very good, is the lifts. at meal times the lifts get crowded any you might have to wait abit but you can always use the stairs. we found another lift that no one had seemed to know about, it leads out by the kids club so you then only have to walk down one flight of stairs.
When we did venture out looking for other night time entertainment we found a lovely little pub around the corner with bowling alleys. the pub next to that is also ok, nothing much to do, and they dont speak very good english but when theres cheap beer on tap you dont really notice!
the pool area at the hotel is great, theres plenty of sun beds (just watch out for the germans!) the beach is just outside the hotel which is brill. The near by water park is a must if u have got kids! and the market held there is great for finding a bargain.
the town of salou isnt far away either, that is a good place for shopping. the only draw back there is that you have to get the bus, and spanish bus drivers dont mind being over crowded!
all in all this is the best hotel and i holiday i have ever been on.

" Excellent! "

Have just come back from spending two weeks at this amazing hotel. Talk about location, the beach is on your doorstep, you've got barcelona an hours drive away, fantastic shops and restaurants across the sea front, Porta Ventura 20 mintutes away by bus and you can walk to the waterpark 'aquapolaris' from the hotel! On arrival we were shown to reception where the staff were very friendly in telling us where our room was and giving us handy info about the hotel. The room was easy to find as there are clear arrows pointing to where different room numbers are. The room lacked in space but it was cleaned from head to toe every day.
If your going with thomson i would recommened that you go to the welcome meeting as they give you all the infomtion that you need about trips. We took the barcelona trip which allowed you to go to football stadium and free time which allowed you to explore what you wanted. Its well worth going on this one. We also booked Porta Venntura with them as you get the tickets there and then, i would also recommened you go here. The best trip by far was the House of illusions. If you have small children i would recommend you go to the afternoon show as the evening show didnt end until late.
The food at the hotel was lovely, as well as having english food such as cottage pie they had different spanish foods. They also do a cavery every night. If i had to give one disadvantage it would be that the bar staff spoke little english so they easiest way to get what you wanted was to point to it on a menu.
I wouls recommend anyone to fo here and we're even thinkin of going again nxt yr!!!!

" An horrific journey, the plane that... "

An horrific journey, the plane that should have taken us to Reus airport from Doncaster at 5am in the morning couldn't land at Doncaster and was redirected to East Midlands. This meant that at 3am, on arrival at Doncaster, we were told that we were going to being bused to East Midlands. Fortunately we managed to scramble on to the first coach for which we are eternally grateful as some passengers were waiting until 5am for a coach to arrive. We finally flew at 9am. Thought organisation by Thomson pretty poor. The hotel is very clean and was better than I expected as I had looked on review sites and the comments led me to believe that although clean it was a little 'tired'. Lovely bathroom, fantastically comfy bed - best we've ever had, nice sized balcony facing the slip road down to the hotel. The food was really good - both my husband and I are really into food and think nothing of paying £100+ for a really good meal back at home. Obviously it wasn't gastro standards but the choice was extensive and very well cooked. I would challenge anyone not to be able to find something they liked. Breakfast was good albeit I'm a bit fussy about sausages so didn't touch them and the bacon was very fatty. We wouldn't rush back to La Pineda, nothing wrong with it just a bit lacking in nice shops and bars. The Waterfront bar was very good and embarassingly after a few nights they knew what 'the usual' was! The beach was clean and the sea very shallow so fantastic for kids. We caught the bus into Cambrils one day, what a superb little place lots of little side streets to explore and lots of great looking restaurants! Had a few hours in a bar by the harbour, watched the fishermen fetch in their catch and had paella in a restaurant overlooking the marina. We went on the Barcelona City Tour and it convinced us that 5 days there on it's own would be a definate for the near future. If you go look in the fruit & veg market on Las Ramblas, right hand side going towards the port. More food! We also went on the blanket trip that included a couple of hours in Mont Blanc, a walled town. If you go pick the afternoon visit if poss as up to about 2pm the main square is covered by a tatty market but if you look at the buildings they are quite delightful, plus we had coffee and brandy for 6 euro. I'm afraid the only downside of this holiday was the brit hol makers that had no control or desire to have control over their kids. One night some small kids were screaming their heads off under our balcony and the dad's comment was 'nobody knows us so what does it matter' when mum tried to quiet them! The following night we had teenagers using foul language and taking about loosing their virginity and later on, about 2am, some mad bloke was effing and blinding his head off. We can only assume that someone carted him off as we heard a man's voice speaking spanish and then the english bloke still shouting at the top of his voice as he disappeared into the distance. Small children were using the lifts as a play ride and we saw one man quite blatantly tormenting his toddler until it screamed and then sat shaking his head at us when the kid screamed. No wonder the rest of europe think we are numpties. Anyway to recap - nice hotel if you can stand the british families but if we were to go again we would try for Cambrils as Salou looked a bit like Blackpool/Torremolinos for us. And more importantly the weather was superlicious - wall to wall sunshire. Nearly worth standing the screaming oinks!

" We found the hotel very clean and the... "

We found the hotel very clean and the staff very polite. Food was excellent especially as i am a fish fanatic,my boy Bradley enjoyed the desserts and counted 24 on one occasion,he also enjoyed the kids club run by Thomsons. The night reception staff very helpful in helping me to locate and return my camera i lost in a taxi. Downside the hotels entertainers Carlas and Jaqu looked about exciting as a cow being milked they were quite rude towards the children and hearing her constant "wow" well drove me to drink, speaking of drink recommend The Waterfront and Gordens very friendly staff , but not the Dubliner-expensive

" We've just returned from La Pineda,... "

We've just returned from La Pineda, staying at the Golden Donaire (pronounced Don-ar-ree!),we were a family of 2adults and 2kids (10 & 8)...
The main reason for picking this resort was that we wanted to go to Portaventura, but didn't want to stay in Salou, and we chose right. After a good flight with Thomson, we left the airport and the first thing that struck me was how much grafitti there was, and it was very run down, my heart sank as we headed to Salou, and this place is like Blackpool in the sun!!,..but as we headed past Salou, immediately things started to improve.
The Golden Donaire is right on the beach, and is located within 5mins of the main 'strip' of shops etc, most of the shops sell the same stuff as Salou, but La Pineda is much nicer presented and very clean. The beach is superb and the water is crystal clear. The hotel has a supermarket right next door and a bus stop within few minutes walk, and the bus service is excellent, getting there in plenty of time to load passengers on before the departure time. They run every 1/2hr into Salou, portaventura etc, and it cost us just under 8euros for 4 of us to go to Portaventura one way.
O.K...back to the hotel. Well, considering it's right on the beach, I have to say, it was very clean, plenty of cleaners around at all times. We were given a room overlooking the pool, which was fine during the day, but noisy on a night!..The room was bigger than I thought and it was clean.
The food in the hotel was fine, plenty of choice, although the kids menu was a bit limited, but plenty of pasta, salad, and meat etc..and a good choice of bread too. I thought the food could have done with being abit hotter, but we got a table straight away and the staff in the restaurant were good and always bringing out more food. The same went for breakfast, but if you can get down early, then it's better and less crowded.
The staff, we thought were friendly and helpful and we had no problems with them at all.
Now, the entertainment left a lot to be desired, but in all fairness, sitting around a terrace playing bingo isn't our cup of tea, but i'm not knocking it if that's what you like. Everynight, started off with bingo, followed by a kids mini-disco which played the same song everynight!!! and this was followed by a 'show'...which was always finished by 12pm. Like I said, we had a room overlooking the pool, so nights were very noisy, and I couldn't understand why they didn't hold the entertainment inside, (this happend a few times due to very windy weather) as it made such a difference to us, because we didn't want to watch the entertainment etc, and my youngest was ready for bed by 10pm, fortunately she slept through the noise!!..but you couldn't have a quiet drink on the balcony.
We very rarely stayed in the hotel during the day, but the Animation team had plenty of acitvities on, and the Thomson kids clubs had alot going on too, but my kids never went in them!!!
The pool was large, but very chilly!! I only went in it twice, we much prefered the beach, it was pretty clean (except for fag ends!!)..and the water was lovely. I didn't notice a problem with people getting sun loungers in the hotel, as everytime I looked out onto the pool from our room there was plenty of loungers, although I can see this being different in July and August.
There is a Money exchange facility at the hotel, changing either travellers cheques or sterling into euros, they charged 2%, and we hired a safe box for 32euros, (getting 6 back at the end), you can leave your keys with reception and we did this alot, especially when we went out for the day.
I thought the hotel was nice and the location is great, but the walls are thin, and we were lucky to have fairly quiet neighbours!..but as usual, thicko parents let their kids run around and play in the lifts!!!...As long as they don't have to look after them eh?..
If you want to get out and about, I'd recommend Portaventura, we had 14days for the price of 3 and contrary to some reports I've read, you don't have to go for the first 3 consecutive days, we went 5 times in all, and it was nice to spread it out. Aquopolis is nice too, and about 10mins walk from the hotel. Tarragona is beautiful, and again, this cost us just under 7euros and took about 15mins on the bus, defo worth a visit.
We went to Barcelona with Thomsons, and although it was a bit more expensive, it was worth it as the second time we went, we went with the local bus company and it took us 2.5hrs!!!...it should have been 1.5hrs!!!...but Barcelona is beautiful and worth a visit.
All in all, we had a good holiday, but I wouldn't do the hotel scene again, but I can't knock this hotel, but I wouldn't have paid anymore than we did (£1500, 2 weeks, half-board, 2adults, 2 kids)..
September is a nice time to go, not too hot and abit quieter. I give this 8/10, and if you are going soon. Have a fab time!!

" Would not go back to this hotel if... "

Would not go back to this hotel if they offered me a free holiday with spending money thrown in, it was the noisiest hotel we have ever stayed in, not the kids but some adults we had no sleep the walls are paper thin, what with chairs scraping on the floor and cupboards and drawers banging at all times of day or night, two couples started fighting in the room next to us and all the security guard did was to tell them to be quiet this was at 5oclock in the morning. We could not wait to come home.

" We had a great holiday at this... "

We had a great holiday at this appartment, The entertainment was good the food was FANTASTIC the rooms were clean and best of all the weather was perfect.. Beach is only a stones throw away which was good as i have 2 small children. Now for the down side, the entertainment is good BUT if you have young children like myself then hope to get a room facing the beach as the noise goes on until 12pm and is VERY loud and extremely irratating when it wakes the kids and leaves them aggitated the next day as they are so tired, the pool becomes very busy but expect quite a few selfish idiots sneaking down at 7am putting towels down to mark there teritory and claiming loungers so by the time you get down there is none left, this shouldnt be allowed!!! One last bad point is the bed sheets AGHHHH expect to wake up entangled like a mummy several times a night they are soooo awful!! All n all a great holiday would go again but would be sure to bring ear plugs and a proper quilt..Oh and the storm one night was exciting :0)

" Great hotel if you are going with... "

Great hotel if you are going with kids and like lots of noise, you certainly get it here.
The hotel has a great position right on the beach, and the staff were helpful, (to a point) we asked for a room change as we were facing a noisy road and could not sunbathe on the balcony as we were in the line of fire from the reps who had organised target practice for the guests. but were constantly refused.kept being told to come back the next day, after 3 days we gave up trying. and some joker kept firing an air horn 0ff in the early hours of the morn ( very sad people) otherwise the organised trips were very good full marks to the reps!! who were very hard working.
will not be coming back though!!

" Brilliant hotel and location. Right... "

Brilliant hotel and location. Right at the top of the beach, and literally on the beach. Room was very clean and bright, but we had a view over the pool and I think it would have been disappointing if we were out over the road. On the whole the staff are very friendly although one or two could be a bit mardy at times. There is a huge strip of shops, bars and cafes that lead down from the hotel, although i have to say shopping wise they are all selling the same souvinirs. EXACTLY the same! Foods got a good evening selection, some stuff they do better than others but its trial and error to see what you like. One word of warning tho, STAY AWAY FROM THE BREAKFAST BACON!!!! Definately more of a family resort, although i went with my girlfriend and we found plenty to do, with bars down the strip and brilliant entertainment in the hotel after 10pm. And if this still isnt loud enogh there are loads of buses to salou that run literally to one side of the hotel and are very clearly marked. All in all it was easy to get around and do what we wanted, and other than the occasional "gracias" we didnt need to speak spanish all week.

" Just got back from this great... "

Just got back from this great holiday, and can't wait to join the many people who return year after year.
The staff are all very friendly and the food is very good with plenty of choice at evening meals. As per norm the English breakfast is not quite as you would expect at home, but perfectly acceptable and even if it is not to your taste there is a large continental selection.
The entertainments staff are extreemly hard working and keep the adults busy most of the day if you wish to take part if not there's no pressure (A big thank you to Jacquelene and Carlos)
The children are well entertained at various times throughout the day both by the Thomson Kidzone and the hotels own mini club (also a big thank you to Anna from our 6 year old Adam)
The evening entertainment was also very good with a show everynight except for transfer days when there was either karaoke or the expected Mr or Mrs Golden Donaire competition.
Another big plus was the free air con in the rooms (although I belive this is only during the hottest months of the year) This unlike other holidays I have been on was both effective and quiet.
The rooms are quite small but perfectly ok and clean (maid service every day) I can understand some peoples comments about the rooms being noisy if overlooking the pool as this is where all the evening activities were taking place, but it was normally quiet enough by midnight, so for people wanting to settle young children or babies before this time should definatly request a quiet room (non pool view).
The water park is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and is a great day out but it may be worth finding another family who wants to go and split the price as they do an offer on the way out of the park for a cheap return visit within 4 days (2 adults and a child was 64.50 Euros and on the way out we could have bought tickets to return for 8 Euros each)
We didn't go to portaventura as we were told that the queues were up to 2 hours per ride at the time. If you do fancy a trip there though try and look in to getting your tickets in the U.K before leaving to save some money, or take a chance on someone giving you a 7 day pass with a couple of days left on it. But you don't seem to get much in the way of discounts out there
Overall for my family and I this was a near perfect holiday we had a wonderful time.

" hotel was a huge disappointement.we... "

hotel was a huge disappointement.we asked for pool view and were given 2 rooms above the entertainment (224 and 225)where the roof stuc out that far that all we saw was 5 percent of the pool nothing else, it was the noisiest hotel we ever stayed in kids running around screaming at all times of day and night ans staff said the could do nothing about it, our teenagers although went as full paying adults were told they were to old for the childrens club and to young for adult activities,( age 15 and 17) so they were disappointed and bored. the rooms were dirty the floors were filthy the bathrooms stank all the time, the extractor fans did not work, the beds were substandard as the were concave in the middle and creaked if you even brushed past them so you were awake at every turn, the food came out of the kitchen cold, and they reused the meats from the previous evening and just added a coating or a gravy. the maids allowed other guests access to our rooms on 3 occasions twice we were in our bed, we never got so much as an explanation or an appology and we had items stolen, when we reported this neither reps or hotel staff were interested. DONT book excursions thru the reps they are a con, we booked thru gordons bar and saved 80 euro on one excursion and we were given great advise about where we should go and what to see saving a lot of time there for fitting more in, i recomend gordons for food too excellent everything from full english breakfast to sunday roast dinner, plus curries, kebabs and local fish dishes, if you crave a cuppa and a buttie your in the right place fast service hot and with a smile, watch out for the sangria its the best in the area but lethal. on the beach you will be hounded by hair braiders sanglass and watch sellers and chinese offering massage for ten euro however beware of the massage people as they will rob you. bonavista is rubbish dont waste your time or money but if you like cilture not miss taragona its gorgeous and steeped in roman history right down to the ruins of the ampitheatre. barcelona zoo a must for the kids la ramblas a must for everyone,

" After searching for months for an... "

After searching for months for an ideal holiday for a young couple of 18 and 23, we finally found this one a month before. When we arrived it looked horrible in the night time and the staff were rude. but i suppose it was around 2am when we got to the hotel.
However this was the best holiday i have ever had, the bar staff were brilliant, they allways made us fancy cocktails that wernt on the menu. The rooms were very clean, and towels were changes daily if you asked for them.
The location of hotel is excellent, and it was very hot. We had one thunder storm about 11 at night, but it lasted about half an hour and to be honest it was nice standing there in the rain to recover form the heat.
If you are over 18 you must go and watch the illusionist show in salou, it was AMAIZING. Book seats through your rep thoe coz u get front row seats abd they interact more with the ones in the front as we discovered. If you like 2 drink, go here coz u pay 4 your ticket and get free larger and wine by the bottle ALL night. once you have finished you just put your hand up.
PORTAVENTURA = go here no matter how old you are, it's brilliant. ive been about 7 times and it does not get boring.
There is a water park 5mins away from the hotel but we didnt go as it does look run down, however i enjoyed it when i was younger.
Buses run all night so its great!!!
There are two clubs that im aware of 4 you ravers, pacha in la pineda but its behind all the shops and we couldnt find it so get a taxi and pacha in salou which is on one of the side strips but its smaller.
Word of advice if you got long hair tuck it in 2 your hat if you can because all the woman on the side of the road will eventually get on your nerves asking if you want your hair braided. I had mine done in the end 2 keep them away, make sure you agree on a price before hand as they wil try 2 charge you more afetr they have done it.
Entertainment at the hotel and size of pool was only why i didnt give it 10/10. if you have kids then the entertainment is great, but it wasnt for us. The pool was 2 small for the size of the hotel, all the kids were in there. no big problem really as the sea is about 5m away.
o, the food very basic but nice, chips, salad, fish fingers pasta, bread. desserts i didnt touch!!
all in all it was brilliant and hope 2 go back next year. i hope everyone else enjoys it as much as i did.

" We were a party of three - myself and... "

We were a party of three - myself and my two daughters age 13 and 12. We had a brilliant holiday from start to finish.

A couple of tips - if you are on a early arrival flight you cant check in until midday. We took our cases up to the bar and got our swimsuits on and had a quick dip until the room was ready. The pool area can get very busy, and the best loungers with shade get snapped up early, so either buy a parasol or look in the Thomson swap box by their desk - lots if useful things get put in it - loungers, lilos, books, mag etc. Check it out before you buy anything.

We spend lots of time on the brilliant beach - the supermarkets close by are well stocked - we took lovely fresh bread/cheese/fruit for picnic lunches every day. There are loungers with shade on the beach - you pay 5 euros for the lounger and 6 for a big shade that covers up to 3 loungers. Good value on hot days.

Aquopolis water park is 5 minutes walk ,and Portaventura 20 mins on the bus. Nearly all the buses go to P/V. The bus stop is 5 mins walk from the hotel. Aquapolis is brilliant for kids and the sea lion training is unforgettable - my kids wont shut up about them! We bought 14 day passes for P/V so we could space out our visits. We found 14 days tickets for same the prices as 7 and 3 on UK websites. Its well worth several visits. You can see the Hurricane Condor ride from the hotel - its so high!

The hotel food was really good quality and with lots of choices. The staff were so friendly and helpful. For example my daughter's favourite toy got swept up in the laundry, and she was so upset. The receptionists phoned the laundry who sent it back a couple of days later - one little pink pig - very clean and a bit wet.

Ths shops are just right, with lots of good quality souvenirs. The cash point closest to the hotel sometimes doesnt work, but if you walk along the seafront past Aquapolis into La Pineda there are two banks with cashpoints. The cash machines are a bit slower processing your transactions so dont walk away thinking they have no cash to dispense. We had to chase after a lady with her euros!

We are already saving to come back.

" Myself and 9 other members of my... "

Myself and 9 other members of my family holidayed here for 2 weeks and we all had a great time, 2 weeks went so fast we couldn't believe it. The location is fab right on the beach which we love especially the fishing bay part of the beach. The food was great but we were all ready to eat out a few times the second week. The bar staff were ok but they would prefer to serve the spanish before the british eventhough we were in the que first. The rooms were lovely and clean and we had a great view from our balcony's, we had four rooms three of which were right next door to each other and the other room on the same floor but right down the corridor. I recomend a trip to Barcelona its fab such a pretty city and a lovely atmosphere there. The front in La Pineda is lovely and flat and it is a lovely resort. I would recommend here to anyone and I will return in a couple of years.
