Hotel Golden Taurus Park Reviews
" this is a great hotel! "
Submitted By: laydeelucythe staff are all soo friendly and will always have a chat to you. When i was at donaire park, the night time entertainment was excellent, so was the day time. they have always got pool matches and such like for everyone to join in with. The kids club is great aswell, my neice loved it there so much she didnt want to leave!
the ONLY thing wrong with the hotel, well not so much wrong but not very good, is the lifts. at meal times the lifts get crowded any you might have to wait abit but you can always use the stairs. we found another lift that no one had seemed to know about, it leads out by the kids club so you then only have to walk down one flight of stairs.
When we did venture out looking for other night time entertainment we found a lovely little pub around the corner with bowling alleys. the pub next to that is also ok, nothing much to do, and they dont speak very good english but when theres cheap beer on tap you dont really notice!
the pool area at the hotel is great, theres plenty of sun beds (just watch out for the germans!) the beach is just outside the hotel which is brill. The near by water park is a must if u have got kids! and the market held there is great for finding a bargain.
the town of salou isnt far away either, that is a good place for shopping. the only draw back there is that you have to get the bus, and spanish bus drivers dont mind being over crowded!
all in all this is the best hotel and i holiday i have ever been on.

Submitted By: prettykitty7ukIf your going with thomson i would recommened that you go to the welcome meeting as they give you all the infomtion that you need about trips. We took the barcelona trip which allowed you to go to football stadium and free time which allowed you to explore what you wanted. Its well worth going on this one. We also booked Porta Venntura with them as you get the tickets there and then, i would also recommened you go here. The best trip by far was the House of illusions. If you have small children i would recommend you go to the afternoon show as the evening show didnt end until late.
The food at the hotel was lovely, as well as having english food such as cottage pie they had different spanish foods. They also do a cavery every night. If i had to give one disadvantage it would be that the bar staff spoke little english so they easiest way to get what you wanted was to point to it on a menu.
I wouls recommend anyone to fo here and we're even thinkin of going again nxt yr!!!!

Submitted By: Mrs L BThe main reason for picking this resort was that we wanted to go to Portaventura, but didn't want to stay in Salou, and we chose right. After a good flight with Thomson, we left the airport and the first thing that struck me was how much grafitti there was, and it was very run down, my heart sank as we headed to Salou, and this place is like Blackpool in the sun!!,..but as we headed past Salou, immediately things started to improve.
The Golden Donaire is right on the beach, and is located within 5mins of the main 'strip' of shops etc, most of the shops sell the same stuff as Salou, but La Pineda is much nicer presented and very clean. The beach is superb and the water is crystal clear. The hotel has a supermarket right next door and a bus stop within few minutes walk, and the bus service is excellent, getting there in plenty of time to load passengers on before the departure time. They run every 1/2hr into Salou, portaventura etc, and it cost us just under 8euros for 4 of us to go to Portaventura one way.
O.K...back to the hotel. Well, considering it's right on the beach, I have to say, it was very clean, plenty of cleaners around at all times. We were given a room overlooking the pool, which was fine during the day, but noisy on a night!..The room was bigger than I thought and it was clean.
The food in the hotel was fine, plenty of choice, although the kids menu was a bit limited, but plenty of pasta, salad, and meat etc..and a good choice of bread too. I thought the food could have done with being abit hotter, but we got a table straight away and the staff in the restaurant were good and always bringing out more food. The same went for breakfast, but if you can get down early, then it's better and less crowded.
The staff, we thought were friendly and helpful and we had no problems with them at all.
Now, the entertainment left a lot to be desired, but in all fairness, sitting around a terrace playing bingo isn't our cup of tea, but i'm not knocking it if that's what you like. Everynight, started off with bingo, followed by a kids mini-disco which played the same song everynight!!! and this was followed by a 'show'...which was always finished by 12pm. Like I said, we had a room overlooking the pool, so nights were very noisy, and I couldn't understand why they didn't hold the entertainment inside, (this happend a few times due to very windy weather) as it made such a difference to us, because we didn't want to watch the entertainment etc, and my youngest was ready for bed by 10pm, fortunately she slept through the noise!!..but you couldn't have a quiet drink on the balcony.
We very rarely stayed in the hotel during the day, but the Animation team had plenty of acitvities on, and the Thomson kids clubs had alot going on too, but my kids never went in them!!!
The pool was large, but very chilly!! I only went in it twice, we much prefered the beach, it was pretty clean (except for fag ends!!)..and the water was lovely. I didn't notice a problem with people getting sun loungers in the hotel, as everytime I looked out onto the pool from our room there was plenty of loungers, although I can see this being different in July and August.
There is a Money exchange facility at the hotel, changing either travellers cheques or sterling into euros, they charged 2%, and we hired a safe box for 32euros, (getting 6 back at the end), you can leave your keys with reception and we did this alot, especially when we went out for the day.
I thought the hotel was nice and the location is great, but the walls are thin, and we were lucky to have fairly quiet neighbours!..but as usual, thicko parents let their kids run around and play in the lifts!!!...As long as they don't have to look after them eh?..
If you want to get out and about, I'd recommend Portaventura, we had 14days for the price of 3 and contrary to some reports I've read, you don't have to go for the first 3 consecutive days, we went 5 times in all, and it was nice to spread it out. Aquopolis is nice too, and about 10mins walk from the hotel. Tarragona is beautiful, and again, this cost us just under 7euros and took about 15mins on the bus, defo worth a visit.
We went to Barcelona with Thomsons, and although it was a bit more expensive, it was worth it as the second time we went, we went with the local bus company and it took us 2.5hrs!!!...it should have been 1.5hrs!!!...but Barcelona is beautiful and worth a visit.
All in all, we had a good holiday, but I wouldn't do the hotel scene again, but I can't knock this hotel, but I wouldn't have paid anymore than we did (£1500, 2 weeks, half-board, 2adults, 2 kids)..
September is a nice time to go, not too hot and abit quieter. I give this 8/10, and if you are going soon. Have a fab time!!

Submitted By: Mrs K ChestertonThe hotel has a great position right on the beach, and the staff were helpful, (to a point) we asked for a room change as we were facing a noisy road and could not sunbathe on the balcony as we were in the line of fire from the reps who had organised target practice for the guests. but were constantly refused.kept being told to come back the next day, after 3 days we gave up trying. and some joker kept firing an air horn 0ff in the early hours of the morn ( very sad people) otherwise the organised trips were very good full marks to the reps!! who were very hard working.
will not be coming back though!!

Submitted By: Mr C BirksThe staff are all very friendly and the food is very good with plenty of choice at evening meals. As per norm the English breakfast is not quite as you would expect at home, but perfectly acceptable and even if it is not to your taste there is a large continental selection.
The entertainments staff are extreemly hard working and keep the adults busy most of the day if you wish to take part if not there's no pressure (A big thank you to Jacquelene and Carlos)
The children are well entertained at various times throughout the day both by the Thomson Kidzone and the hotels own mini club (also a big thank you to Anna from our 6 year old Adam)
The evening entertainment was also very good with a show everynight except for transfer days when there was either karaoke or the expected Mr or Mrs Golden Donaire competition.
Another big plus was the free air con in the rooms (although I belive this is only during the hottest months of the year) This unlike other holidays I have been on was both effective and quiet.
The rooms are quite small but perfectly ok and clean (maid service every day) I can understand some peoples comments about the rooms being noisy if overlooking the pool as this is where all the evening activities were taking place, but it was normally quiet enough by midnight, so for people wanting to settle young children or babies before this time should definatly request a quiet room (non pool view).
The water park is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and is a great day out but it may be worth finding another family who wants to go and split the price as they do an offer on the way out of the park for a cheap return visit within 4 days (2 adults and a child was 64.50 Euros and on the way out we could have bought tickets to return for 8 Euros each)
We didn't go to portaventura as we were told that the queues were up to 2 hours per ride at the time. If you do fancy a trip there though try and look in to getting your tickets in the U.K before leaving to save some money, or take a chance on someone giving you a 7 day pass with a couple of days left on it. But you don't seem to get much in the way of discounts out there
Overall for my family and I this was a near perfect holiday we had a wonderful time.

Submitted By: Miss L HerbertHowever this was the best holiday i have ever had, the bar staff were brilliant, they allways made us fancy cocktails that wernt on the menu. The rooms were very clean, and towels were changes daily if you asked for them.
The location of hotel is excellent, and it was very hot. We had one thunder storm about 11 at night, but it lasted about half an hour and to be honest it was nice standing there in the rain to recover form the heat.
If you are over 18 you must go and watch the illusionist show in salou, it was AMAIZING. Book seats through your rep thoe coz u get front row seats abd they interact more with the ones in the front as we discovered. If you like 2 drink, go here coz u pay 4 your ticket and get free larger and wine by the bottle ALL night. once you have finished you just put your hand up.
PORTAVENTURA = go here no matter how old you are, it's brilliant. ive been about 7 times and it does not get boring.
There is a water park 5mins away from the hotel but we didnt go as it does look run down, however i enjoyed it when i was younger.
Buses run all night so its great!!!
There are two clubs that im aware of 4 you ravers, pacha in la pineda but its behind all the shops and we couldnt find it so get a taxi and pacha in salou which is on one of the side strips but its smaller.
Word of advice if you got long hair tuck it in 2 your hat if you can because all the woman on the side of the road will eventually get on your nerves asking if you want your hair braided. I had mine done in the end 2 keep them away, make sure you agree on a price before hand as they wil try 2 charge you more afetr they have done it.
Entertainment at the hotel and size of pool was only why i didnt give it 10/10. if you have kids then the entertainment is great, but it wasnt for us. The pool was 2 small for the size of the hotel, all the kids were in there. no big problem really as the sea is about 5m away.
o, the food very basic but nice, chips, salad, fish fingers pasta, bread. desserts i didnt touch!!
all in all it was brilliant and hope 2 go back next year. i hope everyone else enjoys it as much as i did.

Submitted By: Mrs J GraceA couple of tips - if you are on a early arrival flight you cant check in until midday. We took our cases up to the bar and got our swimsuits on and had a quick dip until the room was ready. The pool area can get very busy, and the best loungers with shade get snapped up early, so either buy a parasol or look in the Thomson swap box by their desk - lots if useful things get put in it - loungers, lilos, books, mag etc. Check it out before you buy anything.
We spend lots of time on the brilliant beach - the supermarkets close by are well stocked - we took lovely fresh bread/cheese/fruit for picnic lunches every day. There are loungers with shade on the beach - you pay 5 euros for the lounger and 6 for a big shade that covers up to 3 loungers. Good value on hot days.
Aquopolis water park is 5 minutes walk ,and Portaventura 20 mins on the bus. Nearly all the buses go to P/V. The bus stop is 5 mins walk from the hotel. Aquapolis is brilliant for kids and the sea lion training is unforgettable - my kids wont shut up about them! We bought 14 day passes for P/V so we could space out our visits. We found 14 days tickets for same the prices as 7 and 3 on UK websites. Its well worth several visits. You can see the Hurricane Condor ride from the hotel - its so high!
The hotel food was really good quality and with lots of choices. The staff were so friendly and helpful. For example my daughter's favourite toy got swept up in the laundry, and she was so upset. The receptionists phoned the laundry who sent it back a couple of days later - one little pink pig - very clean and a bit wet.
Ths shops are just right, with lots of good quality souvenirs. The cash point closest to the hotel sometimes doesnt work, but if you walk along the seafront past Aquapolis into La Pineda there are two banks with cashpoints. The cash machines are a bit slower processing your transactions so dont walk away thinking they have no cash to dispense. We had to chase after a lady with her euros!
We are already saving to come back.
