This new hotel lies in an excellent position, close to the sandy beach. It provides a peaceful haven for a relaxing holiday, yet remaining close enough to local areas of interest. It is comfortably furnished with a modern yet homely feel and is ideal couples and families with older children. NB. not suitable for the less mobile.

Upon arrival, following 24 hours without sleep, at 8 am in the morning we were told by staff that our room would not be ready until 11.

It was in fact ready at 12.45, so this kind of ruined the first day of our holiday as it we were unable to sleep off the jet lag to make the most of the first day. I was extremely unhappy about this at the time.

That said the rooms are nice, with walk in showers and effective and not too noisy air con. The rooms weren't extremely clean, but definitely acceptable. There were frequent problems with the water supply pressure to the shower, but this wasn't a major problem.

The grounds/swimming pool were pleasant and well maintained. The breakfast room is pretty poor, and the food was in containers with lids on to keep the heat, needless to say I didn’t trust the food, and didn’t like the look, so I completely stayed away from breakfast.

The eating area wasn’t kept clean enough in my view, and is very oddly laid out. The staff as I read before I went, were like headless chickens most of the time, lots of younger lads who were clearly not that well trained.

Overall there are too many staff at the hotel. Saying this the lads serving us at the evening barbecue were very friendly and always said hello and had a chat.

The barbecue was half decent, lots of people to serve you, but the buffet food was definitely not warm enough unless you arrive right at the start. The tandoor food they did at the buffet cooked there however was excellent, really good. Generally the whole barbecue thing they do every evening there I would rate as ok/acceptable.

The best thing about the galaxy is the location, its right on Utorda beach, and Utorda beach is one of the best in Goa in terms of not being crowded. Every day we could get a good 600 metre stretch of beach to ourselves, although I reckon this will change in future as tourist development in Goa seems to be moving along almost unchecked in terms of sustainability.

Zeebops a well respected shack is right on the beach by the hotel exit. go there its great, you can watch the amazing Utorda sunset go down whilst sipping on a kingfisher beer; truly sublime :), Their seafood is great but expensive: 450 rupees (about 6 quid per tiger prawn, which incidentally is amazing.

Rest of the food is cheap as chips and very good; try the chicken or veg xacuti. I ate there for a week with no stomach problems also, although one time the chicken was a little underdone, but again I suffered no problems:)

The general ambience of the hotel/area is very relaxed, chilled and quiet, but be warned youngsters this is not a party area so don’t expect beach raves on Utorda, they don’t happen! Just lots of old grey haired Germans/brits, Indian families and some young Russians, the odd brit young couple.

If you don’t care about service and just want a nice pleasant room to stay in for a very reasonable price, then go for Galaxy. It’s more suitable for older couples, or young couples who just need a nice relaxing base from which to explore.
