Haathi Mahal Hotel

We were given a very noisy room, the air conditioning unit for the entire hotel was situated on the roof above us, it was so noisy you could feel the vibrations within your stomach. The entire corridor in which we were placed suffered the same noise problem. This was on the right-hand side of the hotel as you looked at it from the front of the building. I hardly slept whilst we were in the room, the noise was constant throughout the night. The staff were charming and very polite but resolutely refused to move us until the 5th day of our holiday. We also experienced a burst tank and flooding whilst in the room. The surface of the bath was so badly damaged we were unable to sit in it.
We contacted the Jewel in the Crown rep who was unable to assist. In the time that we were there we discovered at least 8 other couples who had experienced similar problems, it was obviously an ongoing problem that the Hotel and tour operator were well aware of.
Time share was also pretty persistent, although we resisted attending any presentations.
The best thing about the hotel was the restaurant, very clean, superb staff and really nice food.
When we returned from holiday we contacted Jewel in the Crown with a letter and several photographs, we received a couple of letters from them but they were not prepared to compensate us for the inconvenience we suffered.
This was our 6th visit to Goa and it has not deterred us from returning, but we would not go near the Haathi Mahal or Jewel in the Crown ever again.
