Residenza Cannaregio Hotel, Venice, Italy
Hotel Information
Hotel Description:
Residenza Cannaregio Hotel Venice was originally an ancient artisan establishment, called 'Squero' and was formerly a place where gondolas were built. It is located near to the Jewish Ghetto (Campo De Gheto Novo) which is the oldest in Europe. The area is very typical of authentic Venetian taste and extremely peaceful. Here guests can breath the air of the real Venice, off the tourist track, surrounded by artisant workshops, old fashioned bookbinders and busy local market places.Nearby Hotels Viewed by Other Travellers

Submitted By: Mr M WellandIf you want to eat good food in Venice, I’d recommend either a good guide book or ask at the hotel. The general rule of thumb, which pretty much applies to any destination in the world is the food and the value for money improves the further you are away from the main tourist spots. You’ll notice that something simple like penne arribiatta will cost €5-6 near the hotel but nearer €9-10 around St Mark’s. The best meal we had during our 4-day stay was at La Colombina which is only 10-minutes from the hotel. We had another good meal at Antica Mola (a local family-run trattoria) which is closer still. If you choose to eat nearby the hotel you will find that the restaurants can be less glamorous but the food is better. Naturally being in a lagoon, the menus are full of fish and on the whole it’s very good. Worst meal of the holiday was on a visit to the nearby island of Lido when we opted for some simple pasta but it reminded me more of the botched attempts of student food from years ago at university. Another thing to be prepared for is that quite a few of the waiters seem to carry a chip on their shoulder so don’t expect outstanding and polite service as you might receive in other destinations.
I have no hesitation recommending this hotel. Location was great, it allowed me to see parts of Venice that I would most probably have missed and I would definitely go back there. It helped to make our holiday a very special one.

Submitted By: Mr R E WattsOur room had a double bed which was 2 twins put together, but this caused us no problem as it gave us lots of room. The room itself, on the ground floor, overlooked a side canal, was spacious, spotlessly clean and had very effective air conditioning. The bathroom and toilet were separate and we had an efficient shower over our bath. The towels were large enough to wrap right around us (very unusual in most hotels).
The staff could not have been more helpful, the bar and the courtyard garden gave two perfect locations for quiet drinks/coffee opportunities.
The large breakfast menu included cooked 'bacon' and eggs as well as a big continental selection.
The quiet location at the edge of Canareggio is no disadvantage. It means that you can escape the hoards at the Rialto and St Marks square and enjoy a touch of real Venetian life. The local bars and restaurants are just that - frequented by the local residents rather than full of tourists and with menus and prices to suit. However, if you are visiting Venice for the first time, where the tourist attractions need to be covered, the hotel is still ideally placed, with a vaporetto stop just two minutes away and the hotel staff more than willing and able to direct and guide you.
Rialto is a pleasant 20 minute walk (quicker than from many hotels on the Grand Canal route). The Ghetto and its canals offer lots of shopping and eating opportunities.
Gam Gam (a tiny Kosher restaurant by Vaporetto stop Guglie) is particularly good and cheap.
Overall (and we are widely traveled) we rated this one of the best 4* hotels that we have used and will have no hesitation in coming back.
Just three things would move it from 98% to 100%:-
1. Room service was available, but tea/coffee facilities in the room would have been great.
2. A non -slip surface or mat in the bath would have made it safer to get in and out to shower.
3. The family rooms are one the first floor and we were on the ground - we experienced a very noisy family with what seemed like a dozen children running around above us. Family rooms on the ground floor would be better - but check when you stay what sort of room is above yours!
" The hotel was overall very nice.
We had difficulty finding it - make sure you have got good directions from the hotel if you do book in at this hotel. Location is in a quite area of Venice but takes 15-20 mins to walk to Rialto Bridge.

We could not fault the cleanliness of the hotel with the majority of the staff being very helpful especially at the reception desk. The bar men in the hotel were some of the rudest men that I have ever met, along with the prices in the bar being expensive I would suggest staying away from the bar.

Breakfast was edible but nothing to write home about.
Rooms were clean but the double bed was actually 2 single beds pushed together, there is a safe in every room which was free of charge but the mini bar was poor.

Would recommend this hotel if you got a deal for cheaper rooms than the normal hotel rates.

Submitted By: Mr S PattniHotel itself is very new with good facilities and the staff are attentive and professional.
The only downside to the hotel was that we didn’t have a bath, only a shower, and the double bed we requested was actually two twin beds stuck together! There was no room service, no bathrobes and a poor mini-bar. I’d rate this hotel as a 3 star and not a 4 star as is advertised.

The area gives you a feel for 'living' in Venice and the tourist traps are only minutes away. But there's plenty of interest nearby and transport to Murano, Burano and Marco Polo airport is only a few minutes away.
The accommodation is excellent. We have eaten at the in-hotel restaurant and have always enjoyed the food.
I would recommend this hotel, and have done so to friends who have also enjoyed their stay.
