Dissapointed

Aug 2011, cazza

This was our 6th stay in the hotel and by far the worst. Rooms in need of attention, manager and reception staff not very helpful. Every single day of our holiday we had to ask for towels and most days toilet paper. I can confirm it was my last time in this hotel.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Highland Beach Resort. This was the 4th time at this hotel. We have always really enjoyed our holidays there. Not this time! Although on the surface it was the same, there were numerous things that disappointed. The restaurant, which was previously of a fairly high standard was disappointing, the food was mediocre at best. The room service now ceases at 11pm sharp! As does service at the bar!!! There were no sizzler nights etc as before. The waiters were extremely helpful as always. The faults seem to be in the management not the staff. Be warned if you are returning to this once excellent hotel, it is not the same at all

Stayed at Highland beach for two weeks. Staff very friendly and helpfull, always a smile for the tourist. Rooms basic but cleaned every day. Clean bedding and towels every other day. Pools always clean can't fault it. Candolim is lovely can't wait to go back 2010.Will stay at the highland again without any doubt. The locals are really nice always a good morning or afternoon. The only downfall was the main road leading to the beach road, it was a bit daunting trying to cross it.

Our party of 12 first visited the Highland in 2007, was pleased, so went back in Feb 2009. Very disappointed to see such a change. Rooms dirty, lack of clean towels and bed linen, swimming pool not cleaned daily, lack of sunbed towels and sun umbrellas. Spoke to other holiday makers and a lot disappointed with accommodation. Only plus was the reception and catering staff and breakfast was good. Weather was the other thing and our evening meals with the company of our party that made our holiday. We will not go back to the Highland Beach, but will definitely visit Candolim and Goa a magical holiday destination.

Hi, Well if you are looking for the Ritz stay away, but if you are looking for a clean and very friendly hotel then look no further. From the moment you arrive, the service is second to none. Cannot praise all the staff at Highlands enough, the Manager ( Tommy ) should be proud to have such a good team. He obviously leads by example. The rooms are basic but clean and tidy. Cannot comment on the food, as we eat out nightly at the exceptional restaurants that flurish throughout Candolim. Would not hesitate to recommend to someone looking for a friendly place to stay.

we went here january 2007, from the outset it is a major culture shock going to a third world country for the first time but you soon learn how they live and the strange suddenly seems normal.
Hotel staff couldn't possibly help you more, polite, kind and available 24-7.
I think people that have negative comments about this hotel are naive to the fact they'r used to holidaying in Spain, as this is one of the nicest hotels in candolim.
rooms are all you need for the amount of time you spend in them, they are cleaned daily and the cleaners can be trusted, as i dont think they'd put they'r family income in jeopardy.
we adopded a taxi driver from outside mango grove and he looked after us for the 2weeks we were there, you can go anywhere with them and it will cost you £5 at the most for all day. Advise prople travelling to candolim to go to the spice gardens, we went and paid the locals something arounf £3 to ride an elephant!
i was unwell whilst holidaying here, this is when the staff at the hotel were extremely helpful, calling and arranging the doctor to come see me and checking up on me every few hours.
the children beg, carry (sedated) babies round with them and try sell you jewellry, dont just believe them, if your going to give them any money, just make sure theyr not jumping into a bmw at the end of the day to go back to their mansion!!
i do reccommend staying here as it was lovely, with a choice of swimming pools to choose from, beauty salon and resteraunt.
only one thing to criticise about the highland. eggs for breakfast everyday arent a good idea as the main serving, scrambled, boiled, fried, gets to lagg a little for 2weeks!!
go to.....anjuna beach, coco beach, the night market, spice gardens, the crocodile boats, the waterfall and anywhere else yout taxi driver reccommends, theyr the best tour guides!!

First time in Goa and def not last, Highland Beach is a clean hotel a few building works going on but after 3days you forget about it, 8mins walk down to the beach where you can see it all including cows on the beach, Goan people are very very nice a real pleasure meeting a few of them, got to know staff in silver sands resort a great bunch of guys and have booked up there nov 08, had our own taxi guy Philip who was a great help, through him got to see a lot more of Goa at a very cheap price, even as far as taken us to meet his family it should put us to shame at how easy they open there homes up to tourists, after your first shock of Candolim it is a great place to relax eating drinking is very very cheap, can’t wait to go back and meet up with Philip and Jason and co from.

What an excellent holiday, the hotel was clean and the staff efficient at all times, loved Candolim in general, great variety of food and it is very inexpensive, taxi driver’s fab. We used Mr Saga, Roy, Stranger, all were very helpful and did not over charge us.
We would go back to the same hotel again, Jungle book was really good and don’t be put off by the mud huts, the whole experience of sleeping in the jungle was amazing and the elephants were enchanting, the staff at jungle book provided wonderful entertainment, not a dull moment on the whole tour.
5* holiday.

We stopped here for the first time in India we came back New Years Day and booked for the same time again this year but three weeks this time. We found the resort top notch, staff were very helpful indeed maybe if you go round with a lumpy face and don't smile dont expect the people to smile at you.
The room was cleaned every day, pool were cleaned every day, as was the paths. Breakfast was basic but was plenty good enough although we did not eat a lot at the hotel (late night and late mornings), so we used the mango grove Patrick and Reggie are brill do anything for you, what ever variations or combination of breakfast you want.
Raj jewellers at the Highland Beach I can recommend, done me and the wife two very nice rings well worth a look he is very nice if you do go to see him give him our regards from Paula and Adrian.
All I can say if you don't like the Highland Beach Resort then go to Spain and get ripped off, we were happy with everything.
Also we had a taxi driver Mr Sagar on the side of his taxi what a star he took us wherever we wanted to go and never overcharged us and had very good knowledge of Goa, please use him if you go he sits at the bottom of the road at the Fishermans Corner which I may add what a good meal you get there - sea food platter to die for.
Gato Loco opposite give it a miss charged us 4000 rps for a lamb dinner way over the top.
So here is looking forward to Dec 2008 at the HIGHLAND BEACH RESORT WELL DONE GUYS SEE YOU SOON.

This is a lovely hotel, the best I have stayed in at this resort. Rooms are suites really, with a living room, bedroom, and bathroom. Air conditioning is in the bedroom.
The living room offers a fridge, laundry basin, sitting area with sofa and chair plus TV, with English channels offering some very good films. The balcony is off the living room.
Though we found little time to spend in the hotel, we were really happy with the facilities and accommodation. The safety deposit box system is one I've not come across before.
Free boxes for which you provide your own padlock (can be bought locally at the general stores). The deposit box room is open from early in the morning until late evening, and can be accessed 24 hours in an emergency.
The included breakfast provided toast, tea, coffee, juice; eggs cooked however you want plus an Indian choice, which varied daily. Many people complain of this type of breakfast, but it is more than many hotels offer. The eggs were very good (always a good option for breakfast if you're a little worried about the effects of the rich/different food you're eating at night). Also, few people partake of the Indian breakfast options, but these were very good.
We didn't try the restaurant food, as there is such a wide selection of places to try in resort.
The pools looked good, though not huge, but we didn't use them as we prefer the sea, and we didn't spend time during the day in the hotel
The hotel is very well located off the main road right in the resort centre, so you're within easy reach of all the great bars and restaurants.
