Playa Blanca Hotel Reviews
" It was cheap! "
Submitted By: Corinne SticklandWe were not told that Hotel was run by Germans for Germans. We met one other couple from England. We had a room on 6th floor with a balcony and sea view. The beds only had sheets and 2 blankets, it was cold at night and Radiators did not work, we bought a Fan Heater from Supermarket. We did have a T.V but no Airiel, this we purchased from reception , it enabled us to get 5 German channels and BBC1 and BBC2, alright in mornings but when evening came the picture kept breaking up. It cost 20 euros to hire the airiel. We asked about a Bus timetable, staff didnot understand.
One night we had a German singer who was quite good and on Saturday night we had a Spanish couple making music to many local German dancers.
The food was dissapointing, always choice of 2 cold soups, no bread. Pasta or Spaghetti.
One night we had instant potato. Yuk! There was always soggy Veg, greeen beans and carrots, Chicken drumsticks, Meatballs, Faggots, German sausage, pieces of fried Fish and always cold chips. Salad was plentiful, stale cucumber, lettuce and tomato, beetroot and carrot. Water melon, apples, oranges, tinned Pineapple and Peaches, sometimes Rice Pudding and Creme Caramel, Biscuits and Madeira Cake. Drinks you had to pay for even Water.
The area around the Hotel is generally run down and we were advised not to visit S'Illot at night by an English Barman who described it as the 'Bronx' and had recently had muggings. Sa Coma itself was pleasant, lovely clean beach but all facilities closed down for winter, finding a 'Loo' was impossible unless going in for cup of tea etc. Up the coast Cala Millor was lovely also Cala Bona. Porto Christo was well worth a visit. Buses are Excellent but run to a winter timetable.
Forgot to mention the room, Wardrobe doors did not close so we had to wedge it shut with cardboard and the drawers were also illfitting. Had not been to Majorca before and would love to go again but next time stay in one of the superb Thomson Hotels in Cala Millor. Would not go to Playa Blanca again!!

Submitted By: jackie plentyOur room stank of food being cooked ( alot of fish)We had no clean sheets during our stay. No proper maid service. Nothing was available at all in written english.ie: bus time tables just nothing. The bar closed at 10pm The person on reception also ran the bar and the dining room staff was few and far between. The food was cold no matter what it was and leftovers were served up next morning, fish sausage and chips all on one platter UGH.The staff were unfriendly (but willing to take our booking)The TV in the rooms cost 15 euro and 5 channels were in german and a couple in Spanish. The balconies had a small wall and two horizontal bars, .We did contact On the Beach to try and move but did not succeed. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND TO ANY-ONE. Oh and the swimming pool had green algae on the bottom..............GLAD TO BE AT HOME

Submitted By: Mrs S PreeceGlad we didn't pay for half board because the food was very mediocre; cold most of the time and that was if there was anything other than cold meats and salads left! Dinner was very hit and miss too, not least because it was served far too early between 6 and 7.30 and doors often opened at 5.30 so there was nothing left by 6! To top it all, you had to clear your own table and put your own leftovers in the waste trolley.
On a positive note, the hotel was well situated, only a short walk from the promenade and beach which were loveley. loads of bars and restaurants to choose from especially if you venture into calla millor which is 10 mins away by bus. would go back to sa coma but not the playa blanca hotel
" *** REVIEW OF THE HOTEL AND THE... "
Submitted By: Miss KV BentonMy best friend and I booked this holiday to Hotel Playa Blanca in Mallorca last minute once I'd finally earnt enough cash to go away- and we just returned home yesterday.
I read these reviews after first booking the hotel and was somewhat worried!
- I DIDN'T NEED TO WORRY. This is a long review, but it's honest and hopefully of use to you if you're genuinly interested in this hotel and the area.
*** THE HOTEL ***
The hotel is honestly nowhere near as bad as many of these reviews make out- in fact, it was quite reasonable, especially for a 2 star hotel. I was happy with it.
The hotel is very clean and has a very spacious hall and surprisingly large, comfortable lobby area, with a bar and some music. On Sat nights there is lovely live Spanish music on the outside terrace and lots of pensioners in the hotel were dancing.
The hotel pool is much nicer than I expected, and we spent lots of time in it. It is clean and quite large and was never too busy. There is a seperate tiny kiddies pool, and the main big pool has a shallow area gradually getting deeper. There is no 'pool shutting' time either, so you can stay in it as late as you like, if night swimming is your thing!!!
We also had no trouble getting sunbeds by the pool before 10am and often, we came down at 8:30 and were some of the first people there.
Our room was a decent size and had two seperate beds, a cupboard, a chest of drawers and a nice bathroom (but the shower over the bath was hand-held only). The balcony was quite big with table and chairs, and had a nice view of the pool- and got sun on it.
The food certainly isn't bad but I suppose it wasn't the most interesting ever. I am actually vegetarian, and found the food to be fine. I like buffets. Breakfast consisted of croissants, donuts, a selection of cold meats, cheese, bread, cereal, tomato and a few other things I have forgotten. Drinks with breakfast are free, but the fruit juice is watered down and quite nasty- they also offer sprite, Fanta or cola, which was much nicer (even if not really a morning drink!) and also various hot drinks.
Dinner consisted of pasta with optional tomato sauce (the same each day), a fish choice, 2 or 3 meat choices, various vegetables, chips and a nice large choice of salad things. For desert there was ice cream, watermelon, different cake types, or tinned pineapple and peaches. DRINKS ARE NOT INCLUDED AT DINNER- which was annoying when we'd paid for half board.
We had half board, so we ate brekkie and dinner in the hotel but actually ate lunch at various beach side restaurants on the promenade- perhaps this is better than all inclusive, if the food is the same at dinner and lunch as in some other hotels I have stayed at in Mallorca. (I don't know what all inclusive is like at this hotel, but at other hotels in Mallorca the food becomes boring and too repetitive at lunch and dinner, so this time we went for half board and it seemed much better as you aren't confined to the hotel all day!).
Most of the staff were friendly and the man on reception even kindly opened up the breakfast hall early purely for me and my friend because we were leaving at 5am! The maid was also very friendly. The other guests came mostly from England, Germany or Spain. I was surprised at how many English people were there, after these reviews said there were none (maybe this is because it is currently peak/high season?). Some single english mums and their kids even seemed to become friends, which was sweet.
My friend and I both speak English and German fluently, which helped if we needed something, but we did find that we heard English everywhere. I had to ask for something in German two or three times but apart from that English worked fine.
As 2 young people (20 year olds), my friend and I wanted mainly a decent hotel to sleep in, and a really nice beach and shops (neither of us are clubbing types and don't really like the typical 'young people' scene!), but couldn't afford a 5 star hotel. There were many families staying in this hotel, who seemed to be enjoying themselves, and also some pensioners and also young couples. (Not many single young people!)
NEGATIVES: Since I am trying to be as honest as possible in my review, there were a couple of negative points about the hotel, but nothing too bad. Service at the bar is quite slow sometimes, and the rails/bars on the balcony may not be suitable for very small children (I heard one lady with a 2 or 3 year old complaining about this), but they're not really awful. Drinks have to be bought at dinner. There was also a cut-off to the water supply on two days, but it only lasted 10 minutes each time. We ran out of toilet roll and since we hadn't been brought anymore, we had to ask for some at reception. These things weren't bad. The only really bad thing was that there was NO AIR CONDITIONING in the room, so it got quite hot at night- but not intolerably hot.
At the end of the day, you generally get what you've paid for, and no 2 star hotel is going to resemble a glamorous 5+ star hotel. But this hotel is VERY good, and was much nicer than a couple of questionable 3 star hotels that I've stayed at in various parts of Mallorca. If I was going on holiday with my family, we'd go to a 4 or 5 star hotel... but as a student I couldn't afford that- and I have to say that I am still pleased with the quality of the hotel for the price I paid.
*** THE SURROUNDING AREA ***
The area is the nicest that I've been to in Mallorca. There are 2 long beaches (one at each end of the promenade). Both are lovely, though one has much finer, softer sand than the other- and the sea is clear & is a lovely turquoise colour.
The hotel is only 1 or 2 minutes walk to the promenade, and 5 minutes walk to a beach (8 minutes to the other beach).
There are some watersports (diving, banana boat, paragliding and some weird flying machines you can take out!) and also various day trips/boat trips along the beach front, including a good glass bottom boat trip.
The area is less lively than the night-lifey Playa de Palma/El Arenal (which is full of loud, club-loving young people), but there were still things going on here every night. There was a cultural Spanish dance show a couple of nights on the promenade with marching bands and other music. Another night they put up a huge cinema-style screen there and showed films (in spanish though). There is a 'MEGA GARDEN' at the end of the promenade, with bouncy castles and mini gokarts for young kids, and a range of cocktail bars and stands, and live music for the adults!
The promenade/beach-front strip is really nice and is lined with restaurants, cafes and little shops selling souvenirs, food (including english chocolate, crisps etc!) and other stuff you may need or want on holiday. There is even a burger king at the end of it. There was also a small novelties market on certain days. There are artists and musicians and other interesting people along the promenade, which made it special. The music was lovely red indiany style wood music- we listened most nights, sitting on the wall by the beach. My friend bought their CD. I bought 2 beautiful paintings from an amazing artist who used spray paints and no paintbrushes in his paintings- he did them whilst you watched and I was fascinated! There are people braiding hair or selling things too along the street but they don't pounce on you like they do in other areas of Mallorca! It feels quite safe, unlike El Arenal.
My advice is make sure you buy enough suncream before you go as it costs twice as much in Sa Coma than it does in Munich. (15 euro per bottle of nivea in sa coma- 6 euro in Munich!).
Also note that it costs 20 euro to use the bedroom safe for 1 week (you get 5 euro back at the end of the week) and that there is no air con in the hotel rooms- I opened our balcony door whenever I woke up early.
This area is really lovely and I'd definitely go back. (I'm already saving up!) If I could earn more money, I probably would go to a posher hotel, but to be honest, I would still go back to this hotel if I couldn't afford a more expensive one- because I felt I got quite a lot for my money here and was very satisfied with the hotel, the pool and the fact it's near everything.

I am horrified at some of the other reviews on here, which I think are unfair. My friend and I both really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and found the area to be beautiful!

Submitted By: Mrs S WatsonAll in all, weather fantastic; beaches and sea good; hotel....Vilest of vile. We out sounding rude it only catered for German tourists. All information about the resort was in German. It just wasn't nice. Can't comment on the pool, we always go to the beach.
So please don't book this hotel as you will be very disappointed
" Hallo,

I was in Playa Blanca hotel in August 2004 and already at that time bars on the balcony were very loose and some even missing. It was quite dangerous for my small son. At that time pool was quite clean but very often the staff talked about cleaning. Food was O.K. to me. I spoke with the staff only in English (I am Czech), they answered me in German all the time. Sa Coma beach was great. This year I was in S´Arenal and visiting Palma Nova and these resorts are more interesting and lively than Sa Coma resort.Nearer to Palma which is great city. I intend to return to Mallorca soon probably to Magaluf.

Submitted By: Miss D GeorgeWe arrived at 4am to be greeted by a man that never spoke any english, he wanted to see the paper work that we had from On the Beach Holidays. He wanted our passports and kept them till the following morning. He passed me the keys - we jumped in the lift, found our room on the second for next to the lift.
We opened up the patio doors on arriving there and we never closed them again until we were leaving to come home, there was no air conditioning. I requested a fridge and a fan - 3 receptionists I asked and not one of them understood what I wanted. I even bought a Spanish translation book and tried to communicate in Spanish to them – no luck!
We woke up to the vilest smell every morning. We went down for breakfast, basically the only thing that was edible were the croissants with jam. Tea time was just a joke - everything was horrible.
We only met one man that spoke English and that was on day three.
The pool area looked lovely, but you risked life and limb to walk on the floor around the pool.
The room was very basic; the beds were changed once when we were there.
The only time any member of staff were courteous was when I handed in the keys!
So we will NOT be returning to this hotel, how they got any stars is beyond me!
It was a relief to be on the bone shaker of a bus on the way to Palma airport on the way home. It was such a shame as this was a last minute booking on our first family holiday.
No entertainment except for our final night when on the hotel was swarming with about 6 hotels worth of German tourists that fought for the tables and chairs. So if you want a lovely holiday in Sa Coma/Sillot stay well clear of Playa Blanca!
" Well, since there are so many reviews... "
Submitted By: Mr R OdenthalI agree with most of it.
- The pools were really dirty, wouldn't dare to jump in there.
- The general maintenance of the building was just atrocious! I've seen nicer showers and communal areas in Colombia or India, and I'm dead serious.
- All the cleaners did in our room was to take out the rubbish bag in the bin and maybe make the bed, so I eventually had to tidy the room myself and put all the rubbish out myself...
- The food was incredibly disgusting. No, seriously! Us Germans might have a different taste, but that is not it! It was just grosse!
Plus, if I was English or if you are German and under 50, don't go there cause they play German country music there every night. Not cool!
The area around the hotel is really nice though.
Outside the main season, almost everything is closed, but you can take nice walks to Sa Coma or Porto Cristo, and you can easily explore the whole island by renting a car.
So if you are just looking for a budget hotel to sleep in, it's not too bad. But don't expect superb service or facilities.
In fact, expect nothing but a bed to sleep in and the occasional edible meal.
" I was slightly put off by this hotel... "
Submitted By: Mr R MillerHowever, the hotel was not that much of a disaster area, the towels got changed every day and the pool was lovely. Breakfast and dinner were a bit 'samey' - ie. Pasta and Chips every night, with the odd night of deep fried veg, but it was edible.
The staff however were quite rude and ignorant, and like another person has mentioned in their review, didn't want to help you unless you were German.
The area of Sa Coma and S'Illot were lovely, and the beach was great. If you do go to Sa Coma, you must travel on the 'Badia Express', a little land train, to Cala Millor up the coast. It's 3 euros return and well worth a trip. While in Cala Millor, stop for lunch at The British Bulldog pub, run by some lovely bubbly Welsh ladies - the chips are homemade!
I will be returning to the area of Sa Coma in the future, possibly not stopping at the Playa Blanca as there are so many other hotels to choose from. I will also be taking my German phrasebook!! He He!!

Submitted By: Mrs F WalkerStaff spoke no English apart from 1 girl on reception if you caught her it wasn’t too bad. In the dining room not much better. Selection of cooked meat, manky looking cereal and bread for breakfast a fried egg if you were quick. Evening meal consisted of lettuce cucumber onion and tomato that was the salad choice to go with this you could have pasta spaghetti and chips and 1 meat dish to go with it, meat balls one night sausage the next got really excited 1 night thinking we had chicken chasseur only to discover it was minced meat wrapped up in a cabbage leaf! Revolting to say the least. Appreciate other comments saying you could eat out but to be honest when you pay to go half board you don’t expect to have to eat out because you can’t stand what there is on offer.
If you wore an all inclusive band and spoke German you got well looked after however if this was not the case you didn’t seem to count. Don't know when the pool was treated and judging by the tide mark round it not very often. Saw people in it and admittedly were in it ourselves till very late at night. Could go on more but would just be repeating everyone else's comments. Sa Coma was a lovely resort and would definitely go back however not to the Playa Blanca.
Our holiday was only made bearable by the great friends we made while we were there so Thanks very much Jayne and Leonie but Playa Blanca, auf weidersehn we won’t be back.

Submitted By: Mrs L KavanaghThe staff are so unhelpful, there is about six staff running the hotel. We waited 45 minutes at the bar for a drink there was no-one to serve us. The restaurant if you can call it that is dirty, the food is put out but not kept warm. They have two little toasters there in the morning which do two slice of bread at a time I was with my family of 8, it took me 15 minutes to do the toast every morning.
This was all we could eat, cold fried eggs don't go down to well with my family. Do not pay to stay in this hotel, I don't know how holiday companies can take hard earned cash and place people in there. Avoid at all costs!

Submitted By: Mrs M AllportThe bed was not changed, the cleaners only emptied the bins I had to clean the bathroom myself as it was so dirty. Gold trail do not provide reps so had nobody to help us. We paid for half board but due to the food being so bad we had to eat out.
I would not recommend going to this hotel unless you are German, we will never ever go back there again!

The rooms were dated and the bathroom was covered in mould.
What really annoyed us was the so called "nightly entertainment" this was a german night held each Saturday evening around the pool were germans from all the other hotels converged on our hotel for german singing and dancing , so be warned .
Advice: weather was great ,but be prepared for the odd storm
Activities: boat trips can be worth while
Good for: Beach
