If you are English then this is not the hotel for you.On arrival we grabbed a drink from the bar and were quite amazed to see the waiter not only smoking but drinking alcohol whilst working....we both smoke but expected to only be able to smoke outside as we do in this country...it seems they do as they please here.We asked for some information on the hotel ie.times of meals, pool times and things happening in and around the area....there are none unless you are German in which case you will find at least 7 folders in the lobby area at front entrance. This hotel caters for German and Spanish only really. At least 3 times a week the Spanish folk take over the hotel and the restaurant where they are waited on hand and foot and reserve the chairs in the bar area beforehand too so you cant sit there for lunch either if restaurant is full.DO NOT book all inclusive if you stay as it is really full board as there is no food supplied outside the set meal times.....the food itself is not desirable...is nearly always the same for lunch and dinner and often for more than one day in a row.We ate out some of the time but this can be expensive. The bar is open from 10am-10pm and the choice is very basic and limited and they often run out.we were lucky as our room was a bit dated but was clean and tidy...some were worse as we noted...however we wre on the top floor and when it rains,as it did for 2 days and nights in a row,the flat roof leaks and the water drips through into the corridor where there is a hole in the ceiling....it also leaks into the seating area in the bar....you will never see a wet floor sign in use!!our patio door had obviously been forced open by the lock at some point so has to be locked using a door chain. the pool was being cleaned the morning we left but not at all whilst we were there and has no chlorine....be careful while walking near poolside as the tiles are very slippery.
The area itself is lovely and the beaches are very nice and clean. The hotel is in a good position for shops, beaches and bus routes which is why we chose it over the others we searched. It was listed as 3* but is actually 2* and to be honest im not sure how they managed that.Several people were booked into this hotel but were accomodated in the Bei Juan opposite or the Beuna Vista further along the road, both of which no longer have any reception or restaurants and have basically been closed but are being used as overflow rooms due to over booking at playa blanca....many were moved later in the week as they refused to stay there and after looking at them i cant say i am surprised....we have only just returned this morning and there are a great deal of English people staying at the hotel and we never met one who had a good word to say..... i would definately go back to Majorca as we did so this time last year when we stayed in a lovely hotel in Palma Nova...for not alot more ...so would def return to the other side of the island but would not want to experience this area again....well maybe for a day but not to stay. The staff do try but can appear off-hand at times but i think this a language barrier, although a couple do speak broken English and understand your requests. The cleaner on our floor was very good too...she changed out towels daily and swept and mopped the floor and cleaned the toilet, bath and sink each day.

Hotel from h***!!
1 / 10
Aug 2010, nikki1987

To say the we paid all inclusive for this holiday was a joke, the bar had a list of eight drinks in all that were available and if you wanted anything else we had to pay. The lager was watered down, the spirits tasted like water and we were told there would be snacks available behind the bar which they were not, the only thing they had were crisps and those we had to pay for.
The food itself was a disgrace with the sausage used for breakfast reappearing for dinner and tea on a couple of occasions, I am surprised that nobody came down with food poisoning, the selection was basically pasta with the same sauce daily with one other dish and a selection of fruit and salad which often ran out before you got there. The breakfast was more like a sandwich bar with ham, cheese and baguettes every day.
After the first two days of trying to eat this so called food we had to start eating out of the hotel as my partner refused to eat any after watching flies land on the hot plate. We were also shocked to see the bar staff who also were supposed to be waiters shouting at guests for not clearing their own plates away which was the final straw.
My partner tried to speak to the staff about this on two occasions but was met with the staff saying they didn't speak English, which they managed when they wanted to charge us for the 'NOT ALL INCLUSIVE' items that were around the hotel.
On arrival at the hotel we stayed we observed advertisements for entertainment for the evenings and also bingo was available for the guests every night. In the week that we stayed we never saw any bingo and the only entertainment was on one Saturday night. The entertainer was actually ok the only thing that let that night down was all the locals that came into the hotel and took over which from what we heard happens everytime. If any of the holidaying guests tied to stand and have a dance to the music they were being barged out of the way including a very small child, roughly aged two.
On the same evening as above all the locals were being waited on and as usual all the paying guests were left queuing at the bar, being ignored like we had on most of our holiday. Again my patterned tried to complain as he had been stood for three quarters of an hour without service, but again was met with the reply that they couldn't speak English.
On the couple of occasions when we tried to stay at the hotel through the day trying to find a bed around the pool was ridiculous, there were around thirty bed available of which eight were broken or very close to snapping. The pool area is also not a spot for certain guests to strip in front of small children, we both witnessed a German guest roughly in his forties strip naked in front of an English family with children aged from five to thirteen. This outraged my partner and the parent of the children who promptly tried to complain and were told on this occasion when they could speak English to go and sunbath at a different location.
The cleanliness of the hotel left alot to be desired, there was a black ring around the top of the pool, the sheets and towels in our room were only changed the day before we left, the covers for the sunbeds were filthy along with the chair cover. Also the smell from the toilets next to the dinning area were constantly smelly and overpowering.
All in all this is a hotel you should NEVER stay at, the only way you will fit in is if you speak fluent german otherwise you get completley ignored!!
Who ever goes to this hotel will be totally disapointed!!

First holiday abroad with my partner and oh boy was i disappointed with this hotel , the broucher made every thing look rosy . The food was awful, the resturant was filthy and if you dined on the roof top you shared your meal with dozens of wild cats!.
The rooms were dated and the bathroom was covered in mould.
What really annoyed us was the so called "nightly entertainment" this was a german night held each Saturday evening around the pool were germans from all the other hotels converged on our hotel for german singing and dancing , so be warned .

  • Advice: weather was great ,but be prepared for the odd storm

It was cheap!

Nov 2008, Corinne Stickland

Have just returned from a week at Playa Blanca Hotel. We are in our sixties.
We were not told that Hotel was run by Germans for Germans. We met one other couple from England. We had a room on 6th floor with a balcony and sea view. The beds only had sheets and 2 blankets, it was cold at night and Radiators did not work, we bought a Fan Heater from Supermarket. We did have a T.V but no Airiel, this we purchased from reception , it enabled us to get 5 German channels and BBC1 and BBC2, alright in mornings but when evening came the picture kept breaking up. It cost 20 euros to hire the airiel. We asked about a Bus timetable, staff didnot understand.
One night we had a German singer who was quite good and on Saturday night we had a Spanish couple making music to many local German dancers.
The food was dissapointing, always choice of 2 cold soups, no bread. Pasta or Spaghetti.
One night we had instant potato. Yuk! There was always soggy Veg, greeen beans and carrots, Chicken drumsticks, Meatballs, Faggots, German sausage, pieces of fried Fish and always cold chips. Salad was plentiful, stale cucumber, lettuce and tomato, beetroot and carrot. Water melon, apples, oranges, tinned Pineapple and Peaches, sometimes Rice Pudding and Creme Caramel, Biscuits and Madeira Cake. Drinks you had to pay for even Water.
The area around the Hotel is generally run down and we were advised not to visit S'Illot at night by an English Barman who described it as the 'Bronx' and had recently had muggings. Sa Coma itself was pleasant, lovely clean beach but all facilities closed down for winter, finding a 'Loo' was impossible unless going in for cup of tea etc. Up the coast Cala Millor was lovely also Cala Bona. Porto Christo was well worth a visit. Buses are Excellent but run to a winter timetable.
Forgot to mention the room, Wardrobe doors did not close so we had to wedge it shut with cardboard and the drawers were also illfitting. Had not been to Majorca before and would love to go again but next time stay in one of the superb Thomson Hotels in Cala Millor. Would not go to Playa Blanca again!!

Birthday Bash Ruined

Nov 2008, jackie plenty

We booked this hotel for my 60th birthday treat. The only good thing is the location.
Our room stank of food being cooked ( alot of fish)We had no clean sheets during our stay. No proper maid service. Nothing was available at all in written english.ie: bus time tables just nothing. The bar closed at 10pm The person on reception also ran the bar and the dining room staff was few and far between. The food was cold no matter what it was and leftovers were served up next morning, fish sausage and chips all on one platter UGH.The staff were unfriendly (but willing to take our booking)The TV in the rooms cost 15 euro and 5 channels were in german and a couple in Spanish. The balconies had a small wall and two horizontal bars, .We did contact On the Beach to try and move but did not succeed. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND TO ANY-ONE. Oh and the swimming pool had green algae on the bottom..............GLAD TO BE AT HOME

Sep 2008, Mrs S Preece

were originally booked into the europa apartments in sa coma but arrived to find that the room had been double booked. After a confusing conversation with the non english speaking receptionist we were packed off to the playa blanca. We were given the penthouse!! apartment on the 6th floor which had a separate bedroom area. To be honest we were just glad to get a room and it wasn't that bad. The balcony area was large but felt it would be unsafe for kids, the railings were quite loose and low.
Glad we didn't pay for half board because the food was very mediocre; cold most of the time and that was if there was anything other than cold meats and salads left! Dinner was very hit and miss too, not least because it was served far too early between 6 and 7.30 and doors often opened at 5.30 so there was nothing left by 6! To top it all, you had to clear your own table and put your own leftovers in the waste trolley.
On a positive note, the hotel was well situated, only a short walk from the promenade and beach which were loveley. loads of bars and restaurants to choose from especially if you venture into calla millor which is 10 mins away by bus. would go back to sa coma but not the playa blanca hotel

*** REVIEW OF THE HOTEL AND THE...

*** REVIEW OF THE HOTEL AND THE SURROUNDING AREA ***
My best friend and I booked this holiday to Hotel Playa Blanca in Mallorca last minute once I'd finally earnt enough cash to go away- and we just returned home yesterday.
I read these reviews after first booking the hotel and was somewhat worried!
- I DIDN'T NEED TO WORRY. This is a long review, but it's honest and hopefully of use to you if you're genuinly interested in this hotel and the area.
*** THE HOTEL ***
The hotel is honestly nowhere near as bad as many of these reviews make out- in fact, it was quite reasonable, especially for a 2 star hotel. I was happy with it.
The hotel is very clean and has a very spacious hall and surprisingly large, comfortable lobby area, with a bar and some music. On Sat nights there is lovely live Spanish music on the outside terrace and lots of pensioners in the hotel were dancing.
The hotel pool is much nicer than I expected, and we spent lots of time in it. It is clean and quite large and was never too busy. There is a seperate tiny kiddies pool, and the main big pool has a shallow area gradually getting deeper. There is no 'pool shutting' time either, so you can stay in it as late as you like, if night swimming is your thing!!!
We also had no trouble getting sunbeds by the pool before 10am and often, we came down at 8:30 and were some of the first people there.
Our room was a decent size and had two seperate beds, a cupboard, a chest of drawers and a nice bathroom (but the shower over the bath was hand-held only). The balcony was quite big with table and chairs, and had a nice view of the pool- and got sun on it.
The food certainly isn't bad but I suppose it wasn't the most interesting ever. I am actually vegetarian, and found the food to be fine. I like buffets. Breakfast consisted of croissants, donuts, a selection of cold meats, cheese, bread, cereal, tomato and a few other things I have forgotten. Drinks with breakfast are free, but the fruit juice is watered down and quite nasty- they also offer sprite, Fanta or cola, which was much nicer (even if not really a morning drink!) and also various hot drinks.
Dinner consisted of pasta with optional tomato sauce (the same each day), a fish choice, 2 or 3 meat choices, various vegetables, chips and a nice large choice of salad things. For desert there was ice cream, watermelon, different cake types, or tinned pineapple and peaches. DRINKS ARE NOT INCLUDED AT DINNER- which was annoying when we'd paid for half board.
We had half board, so we ate brekkie and dinner in the hotel but actually ate lunch at various beach side restaurants on the promenade- perhaps this is better than all inclusive, if the food is the same at dinner and lunch as in some other hotels I have stayed at in Mallorca. (I don't know what all inclusive is like at this hotel, but at other hotels in Mallorca the food becomes boring and too repetitive at lunch and dinner, so this time we went for half board and it seemed much better as you aren't confined to the hotel all day!).
Most of the staff were friendly and the man on reception even kindly opened up the breakfast hall early purely for me and my friend because we were leaving at 5am! The maid was also very friendly. The other guests came mostly from England, Germany or Spain. I was surprised at how many English people were there, after these reviews said there were none (maybe this is because it is currently peak/high season?). Some single english mums and their kids even seemed to become friends, which was sweet.
My friend and I both speak English and German fluently, which helped if we needed something, but we did find that we heard English everywhere. I had to ask for something in German two or three times but apart from that English worked fine.
As 2 young people (20 year olds), my friend and I wanted mainly a decent hotel to sleep in, and a really nice beach and shops (neither of us are clubbing types and don't really like the typical 'young people' scene!), but couldn't afford a 5 star hotel. There were many families staying in this hotel, who seemed to be enjoying themselves, and also some pensioners and also young couples. (Not many single young people!)
NEGATIVES: Since I am trying to be as honest as possible in my review, there were a couple of negative points about the hotel, but nothing too bad. Service at the bar is quite slow sometimes, and the rails/bars on the balcony may not be suitable for very small children (I heard one lady with a 2 or 3 year old complaining about this), but they're not really awful. Drinks have to be bought at dinner. There was also a cut-off to the water supply on two days, but it only lasted 10 minutes each time. We ran out of toilet roll and since we hadn't been brought anymore, we had to ask for some at reception. These things weren't bad. The only really bad thing was that there was NO AIR CONDITIONING in the room, so it got quite hot at night- but not intolerably hot.
At the end of the day, you generally get what you've paid for, and no 2 star hotel is going to resemble a glamorous 5+ star hotel. But this hotel is VERY good, and was much nicer than a couple of questionable 3 star hotels that I've stayed at in various parts of Mallorca. If I was going on holiday with my family, we'd go to a 4 or 5 star hotel... but as a student I couldn't afford that- and I have to say that I am still pleased with the quality of the hotel for the price I paid.
*** THE SURROUNDING AREA ***
The area is the nicest that I've been to in Mallorca. There are 2 long beaches (one at each end of the promenade). Both are lovely, though one has much finer, softer sand than the other- and the sea is clear & is a lovely turquoise colour.
The hotel is only 1 or 2 minutes walk to the promenade, and 5 minutes walk to a beach (8 minutes to the other beach).
There are some watersports (diving, banana boat, paragliding and some weird flying machines you can take out!) and also various day trips/boat trips along the beach front, including a good glass bottom boat trip.
The area is less lively than the night-lifey Playa de Palma/El Arenal (which is full of loud, club-loving young people), but there were still things going on here every night. There was a cultural Spanish dance show a couple of nights on the promenade with marching bands and other music. Another night they put up a huge cinema-style screen there and showed films (in spanish though). There is a 'MEGA GARDEN' at the end of the promenade, with bouncy castles and mini gokarts for young kids, and a range of cocktail bars and stands, and live music for the adults!
The promenade/beach-front strip is really nice and is lined with restaurants, cafes and little shops selling souvenirs, food (including english chocolate, crisps etc!) and other stuff you may need or want on holiday. There is even a burger king at the end of it. There was also a small novelties market on certain days. There are artists and musicians and other interesting people along the promenade, which made it special. The music was lovely red indiany style wood music- we listened most nights, sitting on the wall by the beach. My friend bought their CD. I bought 2 beautiful paintings from an amazing artist who used spray paints and no paintbrushes in his paintings- he did them whilst you watched and I was fascinated! There are people braiding hair or selling things too along the street but they don't pounce on you like they do in other areas of Mallorca! It feels quite safe, unlike El Arenal.
My advice is make sure you buy enough suncream before you go as it costs twice as much in Sa Coma than it does in Munich. (15 euro per bottle of nivea in sa coma- 6 euro in Munich!).
Also note that it costs 20 euro to use the bedroom safe for 1 week (you get 5 euro back at the end of the week) and that there is no air con in the hotel rooms- I opened our balcony door whenever I woke up early.
This area is really lovely and I'd definitely go back. (I'm already saving up!) If I could earn more money, I probably would go to a posher hotel, but to be honest, I would still go back to this hotel if I couldn't afford a more expensive one- because I felt I got quite a lot for my money here and was very satisfied with the hotel, the pool and the fact it's near everything.
***
I am horrified at some of the other reviews on here, which I think are unfair. My friend and I both really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and found the area to be beautiful!

Jul 2008, Mrs S Watson

We have recently returned from the hotel from hell!!! Our holiday was a late booking and I couldn't find any reviews on Playa Blanca Hotel anywhere, but since we've come back I discovered this one. If only sooner.....We would have chosen another hotel. Once again it felt we were the only English couple there and the staff were very rude. We had 1 breakfast and 1 evening meal and couldnt let it spoil our holiday, so we ate out. It saved our holiday. We loved the quiet resort of S'illot and the livelier area of Sa Coma. Beaches were lovely and the sea was beautiful. Enjoyed going to breakfast at Fawlty Towers and for our first cup of tea.
All in all, weather fantastic; beaches and sea good; hotel....Vilest of vile. We out sounding rude it only catered for German tourists. All information about the resort was in German. It just wasn't nice. Can't comment on the pool, we always go to the beach.
So please don't book this hotel as you will be very disappointed
