My husband Len and I spent 3 weeks...
9 / 10
Jan 2008, Mrs Pat Ratcliffe

My husband Len and I spent 3 weeks over Christmas and New Year at the Riverside Regency and had a wonderful time. All the staff are so friendly and helpful and we have nothing but good things to say about them, they made us feel so welcome.
The rooms were very basic - typical Greece/Turkey - but kept spotlessly clean - at no extra cost - unlike some people we met who were in an all-inclusive in Candolim who had to pay additional charges for changing their bedding and towels!!! The rooms all have a ceiling fan which is quite adequate to use during the night - some have air con but I wouldn't choose one of those rooms as they are at the front of the hotel over the Reception area. The taxi rank is directly outside the hotel - ask how much before getting in though but usually general price of 100 rupees if you are staying local ie Baga to Calungute/Candolim. The Bar/Restaurant does close at 11pm every night but there are lots of places locally if you want to stay up later. There is a charge for safe hire and also if you require a fridge in your room - we did without the fridge and managed!
Breakfast was toast and a warm drink but you could have as many slices and drinks as you wanted. The breakfast menu was very cheap anyway - 2 boiled eggs and toast for just 40 rupees (around 50p)!! We found the food in the restaurant excellent and never had one bad meal and the staff were always helpful in advising us of what to try. Drinks are very cheap but avoid wine as it is expensive (for India) and not the best but apart from that everything else was excellent value for money.
The pool area was in the sun between 10.30 am and 3pm then it went into the shade possibly due to the winter season but the beach is just a 'stones throw' and a pleasant walk away where you will find all the Shacks. We used the Good Luck 'Reggae' Shack which is the original one built 30 years ago - all staff are very friendly and the sunbeds and parasols are free if you buy a drink. Highly recommended to bring a torch for use at night as the short cut to the beach requires you walking across a football pitch! High heels definately a 'no go' :o).
Overall an excellent holiday - so much so we are going back there in 6 weeks and can't wait.

Just returned from Goa, our 4th year...
5 / 10
Jan 2008, Mr Keith Crabtree

Just returned from Goa, our 4th year to the Resort, but our first year at the Riverside.
The Hotel is in a very good location, just a short walk over the bridge, then down the dusty lane to the beach, but the piles of rubbish down the lane have grown over the years, and now close to a landfill site right behind the beach shacks.
The Hotel is very basic, cleanish, sheets changed every 2 days, but even the clean bedding is brownish and ripped. The rooms are basic, we had three rooms at the hotel, all of which we had to change on arrival because they looked onto the rear of the hotel, which again is a landfill for the staff houses, mountains of rubbish and rats.
The relocated rooms we had where ok, very basic, in need of new bedding, towels, furniture etc, none of the windows in any of the three rooms would lock, close - so security is an issue.
The pool is clean, but shaded, staff are friendly.
On the whole, i would not return to this hotel due to the piles of rubbish behind the hotel and on the way to the beach.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the...
5 / 10
Jan 2008, Miss J Fortune

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Riverside Regency, at first we were over the moon with the hotel. When we arrived we was given a glass of orange at reception then given our room key.
The room was spacious with air conditioning and a large tall ceiling with a fan. The room was plain and simple but had everything we needed. However hot water was sometimes at a low and you would have to wait at least 15 minutes for it to heat up at times.
The room was cleaned daily with new sheets and towels and toilet paper provided.
We were on a B&B basis, just to let you know this includes two slices of bread which is usually quite hard and tea/coffee. Additional menu is available at a small cost.
The swimming pool is quite small and in the shade, but the beach is only down the road and has a much better atmosphere.
My boyfriend became ill towards the end and we had to call a doctor that the hotel provided, they were very helpful.
However the last couple of days we ordered food from the main menu, quite alot of guests loved the food and we had heard great reviews but on the last night I went down to the restaurant and ordered some chips and garlic nan. This order took over an hour and when I eventually got my food, to my amazement the chips were very, very greasy but the main problem was they had dried coloured rice attached to them, as if one of the young, unqualified chefs have re-used the chips from a different dish. I couldn’t believe it and to be honest that was my last memory of this hotel.
Goa is beautiful and I really do recommend it, but for a base I would choose somewhere else.

The Hotel is a basic one - but clean...

Dec 2007, Mr Eric Saunders

The Hotel is a basic one - but clean food is lovely. Linen & towels changed every other day & rooms kept immaculate.
The staff are friendly can’t do enough for you. The location of hotel is ideal as if you go right you have all the hustle bustle of Goa loads of shops bars &restaurants if you turn left it leads to more rural areas& peaceful idyllic beaches.
We will definitely be back! We loved Goa& as long as you don’t want "posh" we can thoroughly recommend this hotel.
By the way the bridge is finished so no more noise from that!

Just returned from 14 days fantastic...
10 / 10
Mar 2007, Mr KM  Hall

Just returned from 14 days fantastic holiday at Baga Beach Resort. This was our first holiday in Goa and we must admit it was a culture shock.
Our hotel was excellent but sparse on furniture (storage). The room was cleaned everyday with fresh linen/towels; the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
The food at the hotel was good and they were only too pleased to help with any requests.
We agree it was noisy at times between the times of 8:30am – 20:30pm and the rep said he had a high number of complaints, but it did not spoil our holiday.
We would recommend this hotel and staff and will be returning. Beaches are great Baga/Calangute more lively then others but sea has strong undercurrents so be warned.
Beach shacks we ate at were all good. Must mention Sublime as one restaurant you must visit and also take a Taxi down to Old Goa lovely church’s and museum.
Sellers at times can be annoying but only trying to make a living. All friendly on the beach and if you have time for them they will stop and say hello everyday and shake your hand.
Two to mention are “Bartie” for your manicure/pedicure and your Kashmir shawls “Shafie” our new good friends.
Goa is an experience and we cannot wait to go back Jan/Feb 08 to meet new and old friends. Friendly people/good food and cheap as chips but still you must barter it’s a way of life.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed...
10 / 10
Mar 2007, Miss D Barker

This is the 3rd time we have stayed here, previous years have stayed over the bridge at the Riverside Guest House, so I have seen the resort grow from nothing, there are now 3 blocks and another on the way (to be opened next season).
The rooms are (as stated before) extremely clean, sheets and towels changed every other day, all rooms have ceiling fans and 9 (on the front block) have A/C.
Our fan was not working when we arrived but within 5 minutes of reporting it, it was working - excellent service.
The food here is excellent; we ate in a couple of nights even though there are some brilliant places to eat close by, too many good ones to choose from.
The staff, well what can I say, they can not do enough for you, (the bar has last orders at 2230 and closes at 2300) you are their friends as soon as you check in.
The bridge has nearly gone now, when we were there they had some big and I mean big machines to come in and help knock it down, they started at 0830 and stopped at 2030 not a minute before or after.
Yes it was noisy whilst in the resort but not enough to spoil your holiday (I'm told that the bridge has to be finished by the end of March 07 - demolished that is not re built)
Anyway all in all this resort is fantastic and we will be going back next year and the year after.

8 / 10
Jan 2007, Miss A Surtees

As the next review quite rightly points out the bridge was being demolished and we were not informed.
I too stayed for Christmas and New Year with my young son, but this does not really reflect on the hotel itself.
Yes it was basic but clean and the staff very polite and accommodating.
The food at the hotel was a good deal cheaper than other places and of a high standard.
My only complaint is with Manos really and the authorities who chose not to let anyone know about the dreadful work and the dust, noise and inconvenience this caused.
It is unlikely to be finished this season and to be honest, in light of lack of heavy plant and machinery unlikely to be finished for at least another year I would say, so check before you go.
On the plus side it's a great place to tour the North from and just up the road are three of Goas best restaurants and cafes:
Lila Cafe and J&A Ristorante (Italian) are further up the creek road and Sublime (international cuisine) which is over the footbridge (next to the bridge being demolished).

Nov 2006, Mrs J.A. CONWAY

Friendly hotel, now upgraded to 36 rooms, only 6 with air con. But ceiling fan adequate.
Daily power failure, always when wanting shower and to change on evening. Dogs barked all night, every night.
Walk across bridge to Baga beach is a nightmare, torch essential, run the gauntlet through a pack of about 40 hungry dogs. Local transport fun and cheep. Food excellent value meal for 2 about £4.00.
Thoroughly recommend Hotel restaurant for eating. Didn’t use pool area, small and in shade. Went to Bobby's shack every day on beach, nice staff, and beach sellers very entertaining.
Markets at Anjuna (via speedboat) and Mapusa definitely not to be missed!!

Nov 2006, Miss R Coombs

I decided to come on here to write a review as I've only just found out on one website that this is advertised as a 1* rated accommodation!! I couldn't disagree more!
The Riverside Regency is out of this world - yes, it is basic, but most places in India are. It is spotlessly clean, the food is superb and the proprietors cannot do enough to help - they would even bring our breakfast to our balcony on a tray every morning as we were on the ground floor.
The apartments are very peaceful and there is a nice pool and well maintained gardens. We were lucky as well, as the hotel is set away from the main Baga strip by a 5 minute walk so it was always very peaceful, yet convenient enough to walk to the hustle and bustle of Baga Beach.
Also I much preferred Baga to Calangute in that it was quieter, yet if you wanted to travel to Calangute it was a cheap and short taxi ride away. If I was to go back to Goa, I would definitely book here again.

We stayed here last year for 2 weeks...

Oct 2006, Mr P Tiffin

We stayed here last year for 2 weeks over the xmas period. The place was very clean and tidy. The staff were really friendly and overall it was ok.
The hotel itself is just near the main bridge which is the only access to the beach front area-Baga beach-apart from a long journey around! It’s a dusty and dodgy bridge, bad at night time with cars and bikes etc driving through very madly! The area actually floods when the river bursts its banks! We took it all in our stride and hired a moped which was fun and so we didn’t have to walk over it! And we could ride through the flood area. We did roam about a bit making the most of our moped but otherwise stayed in the same area which was ideal. Sunbathed at Bobby’s all the time.
Ps. Hotel has a very small pool, very and the gardens were rough ground so you needed shoes and the sun beds were non existent, it was also in the shade! We never intended to use it as we were always on the beach and it was cheap man! So, if you want clean and comfy and cheap, try here!

Aug 2006, Mrs L Mcdavitt

Fantastic hotel, rooms are clean and towels and bedding changed every day and if you need anything else you just ask. The owner and staff can't do enough for you, food and service really good.
Its just a walk in to Baga and the beach, however if going to walk at night take a torch it's fun!! Taxi's sit outside and can take you were you want and they are cheepy, cheepy.
The food is fantastic everywhere and all the beach shack's do great food and give great service. Andrews Shack is just fabby.
This was our second time in Goa and we are going back in November for 3 weeks and then again in March for 2 weeks and staying here can’t wait!

Mar 2006, Miss C Mitchell

An amazingly friendly hotel, tucked away from the bustle of Baga beach. We only stayed here a week but couldn't fault the service. Our rooms were spotlessly clean, with fresh linen & towels provided every day. Each room has its own ceiling fan to provide some cool air (I understand there's to be a refurb for next summer to install air con in all rooms).
The pool is also crystal clear and with only 18 bedrooms it's rarely crowded.
A special mention for the hotel food - it's fantastic and really economical. The hotel came as part of a package and we only ever intended to use it as a base from which to travel - it way exceeded expectations!!
