PLEASE REMOVE MY REVIEW DATED FEBRUARY 2007 - We returned in November 2007 and had an enjoyable holiday and booked again for a 3 week stay February 2008. This time it was not enjoyable - it was a total nightmare. Loud music played on well after midnight on many occasions... more

Just back from two weeks (first time in Goa) staying at Prazeres Hotel. Generally, I would agree with most of the comments made in previous reviews. Our room was basic but clean although we constantly had to request clean towels and toilet rolls. The bar staff, poolside... more

I travelled to the Prazeres Resort in November 2006. Basically, you get what you pay for. I travelled with my sister and our partners and we stayed in the first block above the reception (the old part). I have been to Goa before so I knew what to expect. The hotel was... more

We have stayed at this hotel 5 times in the past and have always found it to be fantastic, except that it has now really gone downhill. The staff used to be great; in fact, they were the hotel's greatest asset. Now, most of the original staff have left & the new ones are,... more

Goan Delight
Having just returned and being a little sceptical about recent reports for the Prazeres i found the hotel to be very good. Had an excellent room boy called Michael who kept the room immaculate. Breakfast was sometimes hit and miss when it came to looking for tea cups, cutlery etc etc. Staff very friendly and helpful. Well positioned for Candolim and beaches. Would certainly return.
Illness and traffic noise blighted our stay
We booked for the Prazeres Hotel independently, through a website called '----'. It was very cheap, and looked lovely. So we were disappointed when we got there, to the lovely looking resort, to be taken across the road to the 'Prazeres Retreat' aka the Hamburg Hotel. The room we were showed to was the worse room I have ever seen, so we asked to be moved, so they moved us up to the 3rd floor (it had a/c so we had to pay another 300 rupees a night). When we asked why we weren't in the main resort, they said it was no different. Unfortunately, when we checked in we gave them the print out from travellerspoint which states free breakfast etc, i only see this now that we have left the place! The resort itself looks really nice. It caters for the 35-55 age bracket mainly. It's mostly English but there's a Russian contingent too. The food was okay. The pool was nice. The hotel is next to a busy road. The problem with this is the indian custom of beeping as they pass another bike/car. So from 6.30am to 10pm, the noise can be quite unbelievable sometimes. Our room at the Prazeres Retreat/Hamburg was overlooking the road, we never got a full night's sleep. The buses sound like juggernauts, and they're not shy about beeping for a good 5 seconds to warn those other intrepid road users of their existence. Our room was not very nice. The beds were uncomfortable with a thin foam mattress, and one thin pillow each, the sheets and pillows were dirty. Our room was never cleaned. The a/c was very noisy, but actually helped block out some of the outside noise! We had a hard time though in other respects. One day into the holiday in Goa I developed a severe stomach ache and sickness, and all i had eaten was a cheese sandwich from Prazeres and some naan bread from another place. So one day was spent in the room ill. Two days after that we both fell ill again, we think from eating at the Jazz House because we both ate the same things, so that meant another day and a half ill in the hotel room. So we saw a lot more of the hotel room than we would have liked. I do warn people very strongly, be very careful what you eat. We were both veggie the entire time but even that wasn't enough. Candolim is ok. It's a busy road, there are some nice places to eat and drink (but please exercise great caution). We hired a motorbike and toured the whole north, finding Arambol to be by far the nicest beach and place. Baga was quite nice, Cangalute was way too madly busy, and very Indian so if you do accidentally find yourself baring some flesh while walking the street, expect heads to turn and stare, and stare some more. Anjuna was lovely, but you would need a motorbike to get around as it's very spread out. We liked Sinquerim beach next to the Fort Aguada a lot, just because there were a few little beachside cafes right on the water, and at night it was lovely to sit there in the candlelight with the waves lapping near your feet. Sorry this is so long - but just make sure that it is the Prazeres and not the Hamburg that you end up in - probably not a problem for package holiday customers, i suppose they just put the independent 'budget' travellers in there. And watch what you eat!
loved the entertainment
We went to Goa for the first time, what we found was quite a culture shock. The Prazeres was a very pleasant surprise, the accomadation was good the food excellent and the entertainment was excellent with something happening most nights, either singalongs, kareoke or live bands. The hotels staff couldn't have helped more especially when my wife needed a Doctor. We will be going back in November 2006.I reccomend taking a trip to Rita's Shack on Coco Beach.
Just Retuned
We have just returned from a two week stay at the Prazeres that is myself Steve ,Kieran and Mic.We found it very friendly clean and welcoming and are just in the process of booking again for 3 weeks next December. The staff couldnt do enough for you and the rooms were cleaned daily our room boy left great surprises for us everyday in the rooms in fact my 14 year old had to be the first every evening to open the doors to see what we had.Brill.If you need a good taxi driver ask for Bernard hes great.
i am going back in jan 2006 for the 4th time .wonderfull hotel lovely staff
the hotel prazeres is one of the friendliest places i have ever stayed at. iam going back at the end of january for the fourth time. we have always found the food to be excellent, and the accomodation very comfortable. nothing is too much trouble for the staff. and the management go out of their way to make sure everything is running like clockwork. i would certainly recommend it to anyone.the pool is always kept spotlessly clean, and the nearby beach is superb.
Splendid Holiday
Just returned from Goa and Prazeres Resorts Candolim. Had a splendid holiday and would highly recommend Prazeres Resorts. Fabulous food, fantastic friendly staff and lovely entertaiment evenings, besides a nice ambience and aura about the hotel. Have already booked to come again in February 2006 and counting the days to Paradise. Chris and Jan
Brilliant time!
We have just returned from two weeks at the Prazeres and wish we were still there! This was our first time in Goa and on the drive from the airport to the hotel we wondered if we had made the right choice. It’s a real culture shock but once we had settled into the hotel we knew we would enjoy ourselves. Our room was basic but having read other reviews we expected this from Goa. It looked as though it had been freshly painted with new furniture and was spotlessly clean so we were happy enough with it. There were power cuts throughout the resort almost every night so we would advise taking a torch, although they also have candles in the rooms. Food at the hotel was good although we tended to eat out most of the time. Breakfast was toast with butter and jam and tea and coffee but you could also order things such as eggs and bacon at extra cost. The waiters work very long hours but are always friendly and can’t do enough for you in fact all of the staff were really nice. Entertainment is organised about three nights a week, which was either a live band or traditional Indian dancing. It wasn’t brilliant but seemed to get better as the Kingfishers went down! Candolim itself is a lovely place with a nice beach (much better than it appears in the brochures) and if we were ever to return we would definitely stay at the Prazeres again.
Beware - All is not what it seems
Having travelled to Goa for the past seven years this is one of the only hotels i have stayed in that i would not want to return to. The standard of cleanliness was excellent, we had clean sheets and towels nealy every day, the room boys and staff were excellent and the continental breakfast was good for indian standards, so you must be thinking what was so bad ? Firstly the tour operator i went with describes the prazeres as a quiet and relaxing hotel, i must have been staying at a different hotel, music and bands playing really loud music until early hours of the morning, rowdy bargoers banging and slamming all hours of the night, it was like staying in an old british holiday camp !! Also dont be taken in by the brochure photos, this hotel complex is a large complex of about 12 blocks and as for the exotic gardens, if you find them please let me know where they were - its like a large concrete jungle. Dont get me wrong i will return to Goa next year but i will never want to return to the Prazeres
prazeres.... not so hot!!!
Have just returned from the prazeres, the actual buildings and bar etc, definately deserve the 2 star 'plus' rating it had with my operator, having stayed in several 2 stars in the past. The room boys, waiting and bar staff, as I have always found in goa were absolutely brilliant, and cannot be praised enough. However, I have always tended to use hotels just to sleep and shower, unfortunately neither of these were often possible, due to ongoing water supply problems, and an incredibly noisey late bar, (don't get me wrong i am quite partial to a hang over, and am only a little past 'spring chicken!!), but this at times was completly unbearable. This is the first hotel in Goa, that I would definately not return too.
Fabulous place
I stayed at the Prazeres and can't wait to go back. I have just booked to go again in March 2006. Astonishing value. Superb staff. Rooms are basic but immaculately clean. Who cares about the decor, you only shower and sleep there! The room attendants kept our room immaculate, every day they made a different design on the bed using towels and clothes. We never bothered to hire a safety deposit box, and nothing was taken. These people are so honest, astonishingly so when you consider how little they have. Sure, breakfast was basic. If you want a bigger one you can go to a restaurant nearby. Eating out is so cheap, you can afford to ignore the hotel breakfast. The only thing that I would not recommend about this hotel is the British guests. I have never heard so much whingeing in all my life. Look at what you have paid for this hotel and gear your expectations accordingly. I used to work for British Airways and have been all over the world. I have never been to the same resort or hotel twice before, but I'm going back to the Prazeres. It really is that good.
