Ran away to Aldea Bello

We paid Thomas Cooke a generous amount of money for our holiday I am allergic to dogs, and they booked me into a totally unsuitable hotel with hairy alsations. We usually stay at the Aldea Bello anyway because their Biryani cannot be matched, nor can the friendliness of room service. Food is reasonable compared to many other hotels. We had 6 friends over for a 3 course meal, - 8 of us altogether and it didnt even come to 4000 I.R.P Laundry is cheaper there too.
The room boys change the towels daily and leave some splendid towel art daily.
The mosquitoes make a meal out of my white skin so we often have room service in the apartment, which is far more relaxing. Anyway there is new management and a lot of changes are being implemented to make it more private. However I enjoy seeing the people who live directly near the Aldea Bello because they make up the tapestry of Indian life. The breakfasts are more comprehensive fruit juice, a piece fruit e.g. melon, banana or orange etc, 2 eggs, butter, toast, and a soft bun and jam plus a pot of tea or coffee each. We order pizza for lunch and creme caramel just over 100 I.R.P. for pizza. I have never had a poorly stomach whilst only eating at the hotel. I cant wait to return and am prepared to pay to change my hotel to Aldea Bello.

1st experience of goa

Oct 2008, CI030C1362

Our 1st holiday in goa was fab,we stayed in the Aldeo Belo,it was down a dirt track but gettin to the hotel was an eye opener, next to the hotel was a local village camp, all the kids were stood at the fence waving as you went by.The staff were very friendly, the rooms were basic but clean, when we first arrived we had a very thin matress,as i suffer from back problems i asked the staff if they could get me extra matresses for my problem ,they were very accomodating they brought me another 4 ,so at least i had a decent nights sleep. The waiters were very helpful and charming especially 2 who we made good friends with Naveen and Santosh were lovely lads, when they finished work we would meet up with them in their local bar which was just outside of the hotel gates called Nano's,Nano the owner made us very welcome the 1st time we went in ,so needless to say we went there most nights, the only downfall in Nano's is the toilet,it is not a westernisd toilet just a hole in the ground so that put me off a bit,but other than that it was a very friendly bar used mainly by the local people who couldnt do enough for you without asking for anything in return. The food in Goa is second to none I never in my two weeks stay had an upset stomach. The swimming pool in Aldeo Belo was clean enough but it was too shaded not much sun getting to that area.I would definately stay there again. The Goan kids love English chocolate so as I took plenty with me I shared it out the best i could.I would also recommend that you get some jewellery made there it is the real deal and you can even design your own and they will make it for you.I got some made which cost my lad £160 when I got home we had it valued and it was worth £490.Going again for xmas and new year so I will be getting some more made thats for sure.

Feb 2008, Mr John Biggins

This hotel is well located for access to both Calangute and Baga. My wife and I enjoyed all aspects of this hotel. Faults were quickly remedied, breakfast was more than continental, all the staff were polite and courteous combined with a good sense of humour. Evening meals were quite good and drinks were reasonably priced. We took our own kettle and drinks for the room and there was no objection to this. Matresses were abit hard but they will give you two or three on request. This was our fourth hotel in Goa and rates as one of the best bearing in mind that it is only 2 star.

Have just arrived back from the Aldeia Bello Hotel after three weeks and my wife and i had a wonderful holiday. If you are looking for a posh and s****y hotel then do not come here. The hotel is basic, clean and very friendly. Towels changed daily and sheets every other day. A very peaceful hotel set back from the main Baga road, I have some difficulty walking but had no problem getting to the centre or beach either walking or getting a taxi outside the hotel. Like us the people we met staying at the hotel were more than satisfied with thrir stay. I would recommend this hotel and we are already considering staying there next year.

Don’t go to this hotel. The rooms...

Jan 2008, Mrs N Chesters

Don’t go to this hotel. The rooms are absolutely terrible. The toilet leaked and the settee had a huge rip in it. The fridge in the room was absolutely disgusting. We had to keep the curtains closed all the time we were there.
There is a village built at the entrance to the rear of the hotel. The gate is about 10 yards from the dining area. Children are constantly begging. There was a constant flow of vehicles delivering building materials driving through the hotel, using it as a short cut. Again this was about 10 yards from the dining area.
The pool is absolutely useless – it’s in the shade and too cold to swim in. The only good thing about the hotel was the holiday rep. During our stay almost everyone in the hotel was complaining – we were the only ones who were moved.

The accommodation was good, the staff...

Jul 2007, Miss LA Bracegirdle

The accommodation was good, the staff were excellent and the waiters were especially helpful.
The pools are very clean and in good condition. The restaurant is good and efficient but please note the food is mainly fried in coconut oil and is often heavily spiced. A lot of the guests at the hotel took a while to get accustomed to this food.
The accommodation itself is spacious with a separate bedroom with toilet off, a large lounge with TV and fridge. There is also a separate washing room for clothes. Please note there is no kitchen or kettle.
It is not advisable to drive in Goa, unless you love using the horn and can manage their merging in system of driving. It is best to get taxis, there are a number of taxis always at the hotel, but remember they love to haggle!
The accommodation is a good 15 minute walk to the beach along a dusty single track road. The main beach at Calangute is very busy, packed with Indians from neighbouring states. The beaches at Candolim and Vagatore at more secluded and worth a visit.
There are many flights and airlines to other regional airports in India. It is best to try the airline websites first to check price and availability (try Goair, Air Deccan, Spice Jet, Kingfisher, and Indian Air airlines).
We used this accommodation as a base then had internal flights to Delhi and Mumbai. For a family of 5, this was a good base to relax both just after the long flight from the UK and also for the last week after touring India. I recommend it thoroughly.

Four adults in our sixtys, and it...

May 2007, Mr D Newton

Four adults in our sixtys, and it looked like this hotel hadn’t been cleaned for sixty years!
Arrived early on the 16th April left early on the 18th and that was 2 days too many.
The rooms smelt, the sheets and towels were stained, by the way one of the rooms was
classed as the penthouse, more like the doghouse.
I think we would have been better off sleeping on the beach, as it was much cleaner.
The only good thing I can say about this poor excuse of a hotel is the road leaving it.
So anyone thinking of going there, ignore the other comments.

This was our first holiday outside of...
9 / 10
Mar 2007, Miss JM Acreman

This was our first holiday outside of Europe & after the jabs, the queues for the Indian Visa, the warnings about 'Delhi Belly', etc. I was feeling a little nervous about what we would find in Goa.
We went in the last week of March - the very end of their tourist season, so less tourists & beach hawkers.
On arrival at the hotel we were pleased to find our room had flushing toilet & shower en suite.
The decor & furniture was simple (bathroom somewhat 'seventies' in colour!) by European standards, but everywhere was clean & fresh & the aircon worked effectively, after some persuasion, thank God!
I was worried that the hotel would turn out to be in the middle of some noisy, polluted town, but instead it was down a dusty track in a typical Goan village.
Beside the hotel is a small settlement where the children walk about naked, they cook their food on a fire - real traditional with no mod-cons bar a bike and beat up truck!
The village proper offers a good range of stores & attractions & a short walk takes you to beautiful beaches (Calangute or Baga) lined with bars & eateries (beach shacks).
The hotel staff all live in nearby villages & take great pride in their service - they were all friendly, interested in you & we have remained in contact with four staff a year on.
The pool was wonderful & clean, the bar served a wide range of drinks & the food was beyond delicious (incredibly cheap) with a range of cuisines available. My hat off to their chef!!
Every other night there was poolside/barside entertainment, none of it dull.
The onsite local jewellery store offers beautiful jewellery & will also make to order - as my fella proposed whilst we were there (he was drunk on the heat & beauty of the place I'm sure!) I had my bespoke ring on my finger the next day!
There is also a massage & beauty service, which I did not investigate. If you are part of a package tour, do what your tour operator recommends, but DO NOT use them!!
Let a local taxi driver drive/escort you. You will easily find a taxi driver who will devote himself to you for the duration of your stay (tip well at the end of your stay).
A thousand rupees to the taxi driver (£12ish) took us to the other side of Goa to the Dusaga Falls (a must & go VERY early to beat the crowds) and via a spice plantation on the way home.
Thompson would do the same for five times the cost & without half the fun!
The Aldeio Bello offers you pure relaxation in wonderful heat & luscious surroundings, with easy access to beaches, towns & main tourist attractions.
Friendly staff, delicious food & comfortable accommodation... what better way to introduce someone to Goa! We will certainly go back there in the future.

I have stayed twice at this hotel,...

Feb 2006, Mrs S Passmore

I have stayed twice at this hotel, and both times I have had a wonderful experience. All the staff are Courteous and friendly.
The rooms are basic but kept lovely and clean. There are clean towels daily.
Nothing is too much trouble for the waiters. If I need to know the price of something, for example how much should I pay for a taxi to take me to blah, blah, blah they will give you an honest price as the taxi drivers outside the hotel more or less double what the waiters tell me, but so what it is still cheap for us.
When I have spoken with other guests that are frequent Goa Travellers they always say that this hotel is one of the best they have stayed in.
The dogs barking at night can be a bit bothersome, but that is just part of Goa. I can't wait to get there again, and if Aldeia Bello is not available I will be most upset. Really I ought to give it an awful review and try to put people off!!! so there will be plenty of rooms for winter 06/07.
If you stay here you won't be disappointed.
One word of warning I suggest you do not use the sugar or jam as it is left uncovered and many flies have had breakfast before you have, and left their deposits which possibly gave the diarrhoea and vomiting that a few had this year. My husband being one of them. The only thing we had to eat differently that day was he had sugar in his tea and jam on his toast. A few hours later he got sick. Apart from that I think the hotel has very good standards.

Jan 2006, Mrs Lynda Myers

We couldn't fault this hotel. It was a little off the beaten track, so was away from the noisy road. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble.
The rooms were cleaned daily and clean sheets and towels daily. The two cleaners we had made some lovely patterns with the towels. It was within walking distance of the beach. Taxi drivers outside the hotel all day.
Definitely to be recommended. We would willingly stay there again.
