May 2010, appalled

4 readers found this review helpful

Stayed here out of season, a week ago. Only a handful of people staying there, so we all chatted and got to know the staff there quie quickly. They were all lovely lads working from early morning to late evening. They were foreign workers from France, Poland, Afghanistan and England mostly. Was appalled when they told us that come pay day (after working over a month) the boss told them he wasn't paying them. When they asked why they were told by his nasty daughter that she was "fining" them and that they should pay her money! They hadn't been paid for over a month and were very distressed. They couldn't pay their lodgings or even eat! It was awful, the boss is a multi millionaire, disgusting. Apparently he gets foreign workers for the Winter to get the Complex ready then at start of season replaces them with Greek staff whom he obviously pays!

Relaxing family holiday

Just got back from a great holiday with my partner and daughter(9). I booked my holiday after much deliberation, having read mixed views about this hotel. I was not dissapointed. Our apartment was better than expected because it had two seperate sleeping areas, not one as stated. It was extremely clean and pleasantly decorated throughout. Our balcony was small but overlooked well kept gardens, we had a small snapshot view of the Aegean and Turkey.
The hotel and its grounds are kept to a high standard, staff are extremely helpful and work very hard to ensure your stay is good. The pool and bar areas are a real strength, usually plenty of beds, comfortable seating, some of which is situated on an elevated balcony that overlooks extensive viws of the local area, down towards Kos town, the marina and across to Turkey.....beautiful!
The pools are clean and a good size with a water slide, water mushroom and nets for volley ball. It was always possible to find a quieter pool area. The elevated position of the hotel means there is always a cooling breeze to take the sting out of the powerful summer sun.
The food was okay, bit repetative, but you can always choose to book into the taverna or as a treat eat in Kos town. Aegean view offers 2 free boat trips (we did thermos beach trip-very enjoyable) and a free bus service to the beach, from here it is a short, pleasant walk to the very pretty and cosmopolitan town of Kos. If you fancy a challenge try walking up the mountain behind the hotel, you will be rewarded with magnificent views and very brown legs!
A really pleasant holiday we would definately go back and based on what we saw of other hotels on our transfer to the airport this hotel looked better than most and at least as good.

  • Advice: Take the time to explore Kos town and do some walking.

My girlfriend and I just got back...

My girlfriend and I just got back from our week stay and we were very impressed, easily the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in and it was not too expensive.
I've never been all inclusive before so I didn't know what to expect, but I must say we feel we got great value for money. The food at dinner, lunch and breakfast was nice enough, nothing special and at busier times cutlery was a little sparse. I must highlight the taverna - we were only able to go once as they stop doing it in the middle of September and it was the most enjoyable meal we had there.
The pool was nice and big, the slide provided much entertainment. There was never any difficulty getting sunbeds and we took great advantage of the pool bar with drinks, ice-cream, toasties and hot dogs.
Our room was great. We were convinced our bed was bigger than a double which is a dam sight better than the two singles we've ended up with in the past. There was air-con, a fridge, towels and a hairdryer in our room, all incuded in the price. Because we arrived in the early hours we were left a bottle of water and a little surprise in our fridge.
The staff were for the most part very polite and I would thoroughly recommend the boat trip, though I warn you, you get very wet on the boat and it is very much a boat ride with a just a little stop at a secluded area. I also recommend the water park. There was an excursion there for just 20euros a head - very cheap - and it was the best water park i've been to. When we went it was practically empty. We never had to queue and the staff were so friendly and efficient. I've been to some dodgy ones in the past, this is certainly not one of them.
The hotel only gets 9 as it is very far away from anything else. The hotel run shuttle buses are necessary if wanting to go to town or the beach. Also the evening entertainment was cringe worthy at times. That aside it was a very enjoyable week and i'm sad to be back.

From our arrival to our deprture we were completely thrilled with the Aegean View. The staff were great - especially Alexia in the pool bar, our accommodation was first class, the food was tasty and well balanced. The place has a lovely atmosphere in part created by the animation team who do there best to get people involved. We have a 16 year old and a 2 year old and there was always something for both of them to do. I received the best massage I have ever had, although my husband said that it was not firm enough for him. Overall a brilliant holiday, ideal for those of us not used to all inclusive or resort holidays and those who want a little bit quieter than the huge complexes. Would definitely return again.

We have just returned from a week at...

We have just returned from a week at the Aegean View in Kos, fully inclusive with our 2 children aged 13 and 11.
I looked at their web page www.aegeanview.gr before I went and it looked fantastic, we were not disappointed.
I had already booked before Id read previous reviews, some of which were not too encouraging.
Our opinion of the Aegean View was extremely high, although I would say it’s a little remote if you wish to explore - you will need a car, a taxi journey or the local bus.
We were greeted by Makeila a very friendly receptionist whom was helpful, polite and informative.
Despite originally asking for a pool view we were located in a tranquil setting away from the pool area within a garden setting.
The room was both spacious and clean, plenty of storage with a double bed and a bathroom downstairs and three singles upstairs, the only slight down side to watch is the stairs - extremely steep and narrow so beware for those with young children or the elderly.
The room was air conditioned, cleaned and new linen on a daily basis.
The accommodation within the hotel is on several levels, access by steps, or an upward stroll, we walked to the top and was very easy, I think it looks worse than it is. Golf buggies are readily available to transport you any where on the site should you need them.
The whole hotel was immaculate and constantly being cleaned.
The food at all meals was plentiful and in my opinion to a very high standard, there was plenty of choice to suit all tastes, many of the dishes were obviously Greek and it was nice to be adventurous and try new foods. It was also nice to see so much healthy food including many different salads, fresh fruit and meats. Bread was always available and various drinks to suit the meals, although I personally found the coffee extremely strong so had to water it down.
The hotel also has a separate taverna which is a very short walk (up a slight hill) which offers Italian and BBQ foods on various nights which must be pre booked and just gives a change from the restaurant and is included in the price, it also has a great views to the mountains and is nice as the roof goes half way across so if its hot you are able to sit in the breeze.
The pool area was clean and plenty of sun beds, the bar was open from 10am for soft, alcoholic drinks etc including hot dogs, toasties and ice cream, The only thing I was aware of the was chargeable was the freshly squeezed orange at 3 euros.
There were various activities during the day which were completely optional if you wanted to join in such as ping- pong, darts, an exercise session, water ball games etc.
There is a children’s club which is for the younger children (I would say up to 6-7 years) for up to 4 hours a day.
There was regular evening entertainment from the animation team except Sunday, I guess in high season the may include Sunday.
The guests were mainly made up of Dutch, Germans and a few English, whom all interacted well together, despite the seriousness of some of foreigners - desperate to win all games!
The Hotel owner was on hand to oversee everything is running smoothly, we found him to be very jolly and helpful to the guests and clearly kept the staff in check.
The hotel owns a boat which takes you on a boat trip (a cost of 5 euros per person to cover transport to and from the harbour). We were looking forward to this and if I’m honest was the only time we felt we had been let down. We understood (as did others) that we would cruise along the coast seeing the views along Kos coastline; it was really more out to sea for about an hour’s journey. You stop at a very remote island which was nice as it was the real Old Greece complete with a few local residents and a few tavernas scattered around. You are on the island for about an hour and a half to relax, scuba dive etc and then sail back, on our journey we understood we would have the opportunity to jump from the boat etc, this was not forthcoming.
I would also advise to pre book a picnic at reception (although I do not know what this consists of) as we were told the hotel would prepare and supply a picnic lunch, we assumed this would be up to the very high standards of the hotel restaurant-this was defiantly not the case.
We were given (very late in the day on the return journey) at approx 2.30pm a choice of an apple or orange (although the apples ran out fast so had no choice but to have an orange!) and one very dry curled up ham and cheese sandwich with no butter. There was one soft drink which again if you were at the end of the que was not open to choice.
I have to say the staff are a real credit to the hotel, they were all polite, helpful, fun, jolly, and could not have done more for us. So I would say watch out for-

We would go again, it was fantastic, we met several new freinds which was a bonus so hello to them all!

Apartments are lovely, immaculately...
7 / 10
Mar 2008, Miss A Simms

Apartments are lovely, immaculately clean and spacious with amazing views as most apartments are uphill looking down towards the sea. Lots of different pools and so always somewhere to relax, you can either go down to the busy main pool area where there is lots of entertainment/bar/etc or stay by one of the individual pools near your apartment where it was always very quiet and relaxing. I enjoyed my stay at aegean view however there are a few things to note which weren't made clear to me when booking. Firstly, the hotel is a taxi ride away from the town centre of Kos and beach which usually came to 8-10 euros each way. The apartments are situated up a hill and so there is nothing atall nearby. There were buses from the apartments down to the beach however they quickly fill up and so sometimes they wont let you on and you have to wait for the next one. Also the food is not good! My only mistake is going all inclusive as drinks also were not very nice. I suppose this is down to individual taste however most of the people we spoke to were less than impressed with the food. I do feel however that it was outweighed by the standard of the accomodation and pools as they were gorgeous! If Aegean View was a self catering accomodation it would have received 10/10 from me.

We arrived at 3am and had to wait...

Jul 2007, Mr P Howells

We arrived at 3am and had to wait about 5 minutes to be seen at reception, no real problem though. Our room did not have a view to speak of, but I did not request one. The whole place is immaculate, management expects high standards from the staff and the staff deliver.
The food was good, mainly Greek cuisine. My wife is generally a non adventurous eater but was pleasantly surprised that she found the food to her liking. The moussaka in particular was gorgeous.
There is a large pool area housing 4 pools, 3 of which are connected by shallow areas. Also there is another pool area that serves some more recently built apartments, but there is no bar area serving it. You also have an indoor pool, along with a fitness area, jacuzzi and sauna.
The all-inclusive drinks are refreshing but not very strong, also during the day, they are served in small plastic cups, sensible for around the pool. In the evening the drinks are served in small glasses, less than half a pint, beer becomes a drag, although it's ok if you are drinking spirits.
The entertainment work hard both during the day and the evening, from aqua aerobics at 10.30, you'll also get the chance to join in with boules, darts, water polo, pitch and toss and spoon diving.
The evening entertainment, although amateurish, passes the time pleasantly. You also get one bbq evening and one evening where they have a poolside buffet.
The one thing that really adds to the hotel is the view at sunset, truly fantastic.
The Aegean View does not appear in any of the British brochures, we were one of only three British couples there. The rest were mainly Dutch, and were superb company.
One downside is the location, high above Kos Town; we took 50 minutes to walk to the centre one morning, because we just missed the local bus that runs hourly! But we took the bus down one evening for 90 cents. Kos town with its narrow streets in the old town opening up to little squares is well worth a visit. Get a taxi back up for 8 euros.
The hotel has a shop onsite, and it's the only shop for miles, you'd expect high prices in that scenario, but no, very reasonable. Large bottle of mineral water 50 cents, bottle of wine 3.5-6 euros. We forgot to pack sun cream but bought 2 bottles at the shop 6.3 euros each!
If the Aegean View had bars and restaurants around it we would go back there tomorrow. If we ended up there as allocated on arrival, would not be disappointed, but I would not choose to go back ONLY because it is so far out of the way.

We travelled last May with 2 children...
8 / 10
Feb 2007, Mr R Hughes

We travelled last May with 2 children (boys aged 13 & 9) with Medhotels: 1 week all inclusive.
Generally we really enjoyed the holiday and as we have often found, reviews and ratings are often irrelevant as a holiday can be affected by all sorts of things including the weather, other travellers etc.
We booked transfers independently before we travelled but in hindsight felt we could have done just as well waiting for a taxi at the airport and it would have been cheaper.
The Richard Hammond-style driving by the taxi driver was one of the most memorable parts of the holiday and the island of Kos was a brief blur!
On arrival we were allocated our apartment and assisted with our luggage. The apartment itself was fairly basic but perfectly adequate with enough room for all of us and our stuff.
The Aegean View complex has been developed on a hill above Kos Town - our apartment was just below the main terrace (where the pools / restaurant etc are) but I imagine that if you were in one of the upper apartments you could face a stiff walk up & down several times a day.
On the other hand I also imagine that the area around the pools in high season could get fairly lively so if you wanted somewhere quieter, being up the hill might be better.
Aegean View is approx 30-40 mins walk away from the centre of Kos Town, which is certainly worth visiting.
Walk the same distance other way and you get to the shingle beach & sea and you can spot Turkey across the water: I think you would have to walk further to get to a nice stretch of sand / beach.
The complex is very much on the outskirts of the town and any walk is along country roads past fields of goats etc or through private residential or holiday accommodation.
We really enjoyed the food and although it was not haute cuisine we always felt that what was produced was very well presented and there was sufficient choice for all but the very fussiest of eaters. (I wasn't sure about being served brussel sprouts on a baking hot day in May but I don't like them at any time of the year!)
The free drinks were ok, but as with all basic a.i. packages I think you get what you pay for: we felt obliged to drink the "local" alcoholic drinks because they were "free" but if you were inclined to drink a lot, you would still be standing at the end of the night.
I wouldn't suggest that anyone would be watering down the beer or anything like that.
The entertainment around the pool during the day was a bit poor - a barely interested German girl trying to whip up the enthusiasm of the guests. There were darts competitions, aqua aerobics, water polo competitions but I can't remember much else.
This is definitely a better holiday for younger children - the pools are lovely and safe and the activities, what there are, are more set up for them.
There is a pool table and tennis table but as happens anywhere, the younger kids when unsupervised became a bit giddy and started messing about with the pool balls etc causing cross words from the reception staff and a ban on unsupervised children in that area.
That was a bit of a nuisance because the kids were constantly pestering parents to go with them whereas the parents had other leisure activities in mind!

The vast majority of the other guests were Dutch and those we did mingle with (often through the kids) were very pleasant and - a bit of a stereotype- put our use of the English language to shame!
The was a smattering of other nationalities - some Scandinavians and Germans and 3 British families including us but there wasn't much mixing /socialising going on outside national or even family groups.
By far the most memorable thing about the Aegean View is the panoramic view, especially at sunset. We have some of our best holiday pics ever from last year - the sight of the sun dipping below the hills on a balmy evening, with a drink in one hand and camera in the other was lovely.
The main bar is in a fantastic location - it probably gets very busy in the high season but we loved it. Please avoid the free cocktails which you may be lucky (or unlucky!) enough to win during one of the quiz or bingo evenings - they're "gross", to use my boy's words.
These evening aren't as tacky as they sound - just 1/2 hr of fun conducted multilingual, which adds to the interest!
There is a pool bar open during the day - the boys were a bit disappointed about the quality / quantity of snacks available (bits of dry cake and the occasional sandwich) but it was great for topping up with cold drinks, ice creams & coffees.
The barman here was English & very friendly and always lovely with the kids. The barman at the main bar in the evening was the opposite, but maybe he was having a bad week.
The reception staff were a funny mix - one was always friendly, helpful, respectful, polite and very efficient and the other also seemed to be having a bad week - moody and lacking in some basic customer care skills.
The owner was an astute, charming "pater familias" character who was very interesting to talk to and was often to be seen around the complex and I would guess he pretty much knows exactly what is going on.
The restaurant staff were excellent - friendly, very efficient and professional. There was one rather comically inept waiter who would get stern disapproving looks from his female counterparts, but I'm not sure he ever quite got it because he always had a beaming smile on his face!
In brief, the positive points:
-The location for views & relative tranquillity
-The food
-The apartment
-Most of the staff
-Value for money: this was excellent!
Negative points:
-Location - if you like to be within walking distance of bars, nightlife, beaches etc
-Entertainment - if you are looking for lively activity for yourselves or you kids.
-Not so suitable for teenaged kids unless they like to immerse themselves in I-pods, -books or other teenaged guests!
- Probably not suitable for some people with significant mobility problems due to steps, hills in places
Overall we loved it!
