Fantastic February

Feb 2011, Dazz

Just got back on 27-02-11 and had a fantastic holiday, apartments are just back from the beach and if your on the 6th or 7th floor you get a sea view. Apartment was clean and tidy with the maid coming in every other day and during the 7 nights we were there we had our bed linen and towls changed halfway. Cant fault the accomodation, yes hot water will run out but the small tank will quickly reheat. Car park at the rear was a real money saver if you hire a car. Small supermarket and bank were at the rear and 100yds away. Road outside was not noisy and led to the main walkway above the beach road. The beach is 5 min walk and there are plenty of good places to eat nearby. Kitchen facilities were good with microwave, toaster, coffee maker and very large fridge/freezer. There were 5 of us and the bed settee was comfortable. Dont know why anyone would complain as this was a great apartment for the price that we paid.

Family Holiday

Just got back from a week staying at the Guinea, my daughter and her partner went a week before us and then 6 of us joined them for the second week as it was a 40th birthday celebration that week. Have stayed here once before but been to Playa del Ingles quite a few times, my daughter and her partner have also stayed here before, you get what you pay for and it is ok once you get to know the routine on reception it works and the man on reception is very polite and helpful, the pool area is good, the pool is clean, I wouldn't stay anywhere a second time if it was awful. I think some of the apartments in the block are owned so it isn't overcrowded. It is close for the beach and the Kasbah centre and only about 10 minutes walk to the Yumbo centre. The weather was lovely, I have never been in January before and was pleasantly surprised. We had a lovely time.

It's a good place to stay, basic but clean and spacious. It looks more like an apartment block. Rooms are more like one bedroom flats. It's best to stay on the top floor, so u will get a see view. If staying on the lower floor you maight feel like being in a basemnt, as it's really low! It's 3 mins walk from the beach and from Kasbah/Metro shopping center and 6-7 mins walk from the Jumbo. I'd definatelly stay there again! Location is great!

me and my partner went to the guinea...

May 2008, Miss L Thompson

me and my partner went to the guinea apartments in march 2008. we read some of the reviews before we went and we thought that the apartment was going to be nice. when we got there the reception was closed at 3.00pm there was a note on the door with our key stating what room number we were in. we were on the ground floor with a small balcony next to the pool side bar. the balcony was very small and wasnt very private.
the bar next to us was meant to be open all day, with happy hour from 4-8. the bar didnt open till 12 and closed at 3 half the time so if you wanted something to eat or a drink you had to go further afield. the reception was open for about 4 hours a day so any problems that you had it was hard to talk to someone as noone was ever there. no reps were there either.
the rooms were big and spacious but unclean maid came about 3 times, we were there for a week, the beds were wobbly and the sette that we had was broken, there was wood missing underneath where u sit. the bathroom was discusting at one point during the day around 6-7pm it stunk of sewers. i couldnt even go in there without feeling sick. one night that i went to get in the shower the water was freezing and brown water was splurting out. i had to go and use the shower that was outside for people who were leaving.
the only good thing about these apartments were they were in the centre of everything, it was close to the nightlife and the beach no taxis needed. the beach was down some steps to the left of the apartment and the bars were to the right. nightlife was ok. wasnt very busy as we went in march. if you get stopped to do a bar crawl for 20 euros each DO NOT DO IT!!!! we accepted to do it and we were told to meet at this bar that was about a 20 minute walk away when we got there we thought we would be starting there then going round all the bars close to our apartment, but we were all loaded on a bus and took 30 miles away to a different resort in to a small shopping centre with 2 bars. noone else was there except the people who had accepted the bar crawl, we were the only english there so we felt a bit out of place. they tried to make us pay another 10 euros to enter the bar and for the bus ride but we declined and got a taxi home that cost 30 euros. it was a total rip off.
it was my first time at playa del ingles and i did think that it was a nice place to stay but i do prefer puerto rico, i think there is more things to do in puerto rico and the bars are better.

When it comes to The Guinea...

When it comes to The Guinea Apartments, you will grade it on what you want from a holiday. If you want a luxury hotel then you will not get this at The Guinea Apartments. As the story goes, you pay for what you get. I have stayed at these apartments twice, I have just got back and also stayed here 2 years ago. The loaction is fantastic, just minutes from the beach and about 10 minutes from the centre of Playa del Ingles and all the bars and shops. As this is self catering apartments, there are plenty of supermarkets in the immediate area. The swimming pool is very clean and a great sun catcher, with plenty of sun loungers. The rooms are clean, equipped with hop, fridge, small freezer, pans etc... I am a travel agent for the biggest tour operator in the UK and I would recommend these apartments to anyone wanting basic apartments. Lets face it how much time do you spend in your apartment. Also I never saw one BUG.

Apr 2008, Mr R J Garner

If you want to get any sleep on your holiday then dont go to the Guinea appartments it has to be the noisest place ive ever stayed, our appartment located on the ground floor next to the bar, which also was next to the maids room who got to work at 5.30am every morning! the bar was never a problem as it was closed for around 6pm it was the people in the surrounding apartments who seemed to enjoy there own personal karaoke on the balcony until 5.30 in the morning!! Overall the apartments are very clean and tidy and got clean towels most days and a sweep of the floor. As other reviews have suggested it is definatley more suited to young groups and not families at all. I would have to say myself that i wouldnt go back to these apartments but as for gran canaria it's fab!!

I am a travel agent and travelled to these apartments 2 years ago, I was on a budget as I was only 17 and it was also my and my boyfriends first holiday together with no parents! Being a travel agent does make me fussy especially when booking my own holiday but I had no choice to book something cheap due to lack of money! I think a holiday is what you make of it alls you need is a clean room with ample facilities!
The pool was heaven, was completely dead and at some points it was like our own personal swimming pool with just the 2 of us! It is close to everything and Playa del Ingles being quite a spread out resort some of other accommodation was pretty far out but this was right in centre of everything! Pictures don't do the property any justice it is basic yes but it has everything you need!! If your expecting 4* luxury accommodation this isn't the place for you but for what you pay what do you expect?????
I returned to Gran Canaria the year after, this time to Puerto Rico where I stayed in the Gloria Palace Amadore's it was a beautiful 4* luxury hotel with everything you could wish for, guess what I seen more cockroaches round the grounds of the hotel than what I seen in the whole resort of Playa del Ingles the year before!!! I'm still in travel now and I would recommend this accommodation to anyone on a budget!! And believe me if it was a dump I wouldn't send my customers there!! It annoys me people who moan about cockroaches yes there horrible but get over it your not in England and people cant decide were they are and aren't allowed to be they move around everywhere and are unpredictable!!!

My fiancé and I stayed for one week...
8 / 10
Oct 2007, Miss C Ellis

My fiancé and I stayed for one week in October. We were dubious on arrival as the apartments were behind a high green fence, however the complex was great as they were in a fantastic location, away from prying eyes and secure. The reception guy could have been friendlier but was courteous and professional. The reception is not 24 hour and the complex locked most of the time (god help you if you lose your key!).
Our apartment was spacious and had all we needed, although slightly worn and had probably seen better days (but this is 2 star!!). There is a two ring hob, microwave, toaster and fridge/freezer, no kettle (not a problem for me as happy to boil water on the hob). Our accommodation consisted of kitchenette with breakfast bar, sitting room with sofa and two chairs, balcony with table and chairs, twin bedroom and bathroom with bath/shower. The TV is a Euro per hour with a couple of English speaking news channels.
The pool area was lovely, one floor below ground level with an additional higher level sun terrace. Cleaned regularly with plenty of sun beds but a closed pool bar!! The sun did move around the pool, but we sat centrally and got the sun all day. There were 4 other people around the pool for the first couple of days - bliss. Then it was a Spanish bank holiday and the Spaniards descended in droves. Lots of families arrived on Thursday evening and partied hard until Sunday afternoon- I think they have holiday homes there. The noise was non-stop but not unbearable as it was just families enjoying themselves.
The best thing about these apartments is the location. Turn right and its 75 steps down to the beach front. Turn left and you're looking at the Kasbah centre, left again and it's 5mins to Netto and 10mins to the Yumbo. We found a real gem of a restaurant on the beach called the Cactus, great drinks, food and friendly staff. We checked out the newly renamed QE2 in the Yumbo and loved the drag show.
We would return to and recommend the Guniea.

Apr 2007, Miss T Edwards

Me and a friend went to Playa Del Ingles and did not really know what to expect when we arrived at Guinea apartments, but I did not have one complaint about the place.
We did not see no cockroaches in our room, the security was excellent, cleaners were brilliant and overall the staff's attitude with us, well we could not of asked no better everyone was so polite.
The swimming pool was clean just a little chilly which you expect from most pools.
The restaurant allocated in the apartments did beautiful meals at very reasonable prices and suit everyone.
I enjoyed it that much there that I am returning this month 23/04/07 - 3days away to be precise and I cannot wait.

Nov 2006, Mr B Norcross

We found the Guinea apartments more than adequate for our needs, the rooms were spacious and clean the pool and other facilities were fine and the staff were friendly.
The bar was good value for money with an excellent BBQ on Thursday night. I can personally recommend the English breakfast for both quality and value for money. Brilliant location, handy for all local attractions (beach, bars & restaurants, shops etc.)
We have booked again for February 2007 and are looking forward to it. All in all, a great place to go for a winter break without breaking the bank.

Jul 2006, Miss L J  Stock

First of all the people are so friendly at guinea apartments. A very good value for money holiday. Everything was basic but clean although you have to ask the maids for clean bedding as we didn’t get any for 5 days.
Apart from that it was brilliant. Senni will make you feel extremely welcome he works in the bar down stairs.
Good also as it is close to the beach and the nightlife but not too close there was no noise at night from drunken crowds. I am hoping to go back to guinea apartments in November.
