Just back from Nizmar Resort in Goa after great time. Staff were unfailingly helpful and polite despite usual selection of guests, mainly Brits, who paid 3 star prices but expect 7 star facilities. Additional bonus on arrival was totally unexpected issue of 6 vouchers for... more

We have just returned from the Hotel Nizmar, we were warned about the standard of hotel rooms before we went. This hotel is featured as a 3 star hotel but under european hotel standards I would rate the hotel rooms as a 1 star. The rooms were basic and although clean very... more

Ater 3 extremely enjoyable trips to Goa, staying at the nizmar made me realise that not all is rosey in paradise!! This has to be the worst hotel in Goa. We were double billed several times, money dissapeared from our room on one occasion. We had plenty of ants to keep us... more

This is our 3rd time in this hotel so I think that speaks for itself! We found the staff helpful and charming, from reception right down to the room boys. Comments about the slight shabbiness of the rooms are valid, but you have got to remember you are in India and as we... more

Our room looked like it had just been patched up, there were patches of paint everywhere where the worst bits were. Our shower room had tiles missing on the floor so the water couldn't drain away, this led to an infestation of flies gathering around the water over night so... more

Excellent hotel. Situated in a prime shopping area enabling you to visit shops such as Reebok, Nike, Bennetton and Lacoste.
All these shops have latest designs at a HUGE discount. Excellent. Goa is a wonderful place to visit and is somewhere I certainly will be visiting again!

FABULOUS HOTEL
We returned a few weeks ago from this fab hotel and have already booked for next year. Having travelled around the world, I have never met more friendly, honest and pleasant people. There is nothing they wouldn't do for you! Even were taken out for the day by a waiter, Desmond on his day off!! We would recommend this hotel to anyone but there is one thing to be careful of. Don't acccept a room in block 7. Everywhere else is fine!!!!!!!!!
I have booked to back already!
When my friend and I got off the bus we wondered where the hell we had come to. All we wanted to do was turn around and go home. We were shown a horrible grotty depressing room but after a bit of persuasion from the reception staff we were moved to a much better block (the one on the right as you go into the hotel). The holiday progressed and so did our feelings towards the Nizmar. The staff were excellent and good fun. We met some lovely people and the room was clean and tastefully decorated. We used the beauty salon almost daily and the girls were wonderful. I have travelled all over the world and wasnt used to the basic accommodation that you get at the Nizmar. But Goa is Goa and its basic but clean. Its a base to explore from. Taking into account the cost and the cleanliness and the prompt service (I was locked in the toilet one night and someone was there within 5 minutes to help me) its excellent value for money. I bought a gold and ruby ring from the jeweller in the hotel which cost £130. I have had it valued back home between £500-£600. And how honest is he? I gave him £100 an he said I could pay him the rest when he sees me again!!! The best taxi driver in the world is Alex. He has "God is Love" on the back of his taxi and he really looked after us two girls in Goa! Best place to eat - The Inferno in Candolim. Brilliant. Then Casa Sea Shell. Got back on 28 February and booked straighaway to go back to The Nizmar - but I will take my husband this time!
Must be missing something - this hotel is terrible..!!
Hi I booked a Thomas Cook Square Deal 3* North Goa holiday for two weeks at Easter. I had read reviews for this hotel and many others before I left so when our rep told us we were staying at the Nizmar I wasn't too worried. WRONG..!! All I can say is the people who have previously written reports for this hotel must be easily pleased and have extremely low standards. Sorry, but this hotel was awful. We waited a couple of hours before our room was ready (it as 6:30 in the morning) and I just got an awful feeling about it before they had showed us to our room just from looking around. I popped up to have a look at the gym just above reception and it was appalling and so were the stairs going up. It was dark, dirty and depressing. They eventually showed us to our room on the fourth floor as far away from the main building as you could get. Although it was quite spacious it was old, dirty (I mean the TV had inches of dust on it - and we had been waiting 2 hours for them to clean it..!!) It just reminded me of a prison cell. I was horrified and so was my husband. I looked out from the balcony and you could tell that all the rooms were the same so I felt it was pointless asking for another room. I eventually rang the 24 hour Thomas Cook Helpline and we moved out within the next hour to the Highland Beach Hotel in Candolim where we had a lovely holiday. All I can say is that perhaps people who holiday here accept that the standards are much lower and are happy with that. Not for me. I would have hated it. It was dirty and depressing and nothing would have made me change my mind. My advice - stay well clear..! Julia
Fantastic! Can't wait to go back!!!!
Having read the reviews on this site before booking we were expecting to have an amazing holiday and we were not dissappointed!! On arrival Valerie on reception upgraded us free of charge to a deluxe suite as the hotel was quite quiet in April. The room was what we expected of a 3* hotel in Goa, basic but clean and comfortable. The pool area was adequate (I would reccomend visiting late in the season like we did as it means no fighting over sunbeds and the prices are cheaper). The hotel restaurants were pretty good and I highly recommend the Oriental Garden restaurant for when you fancy a bit of a change from curry. The breakfast included was pretty poor to be honest but as it only costs about 80p for a portion of pancakes from any of the beach shacks this didn't really bother us. The location of the hotel is good. The beach is a 5-10 minute walk out the back gates and the main Calangute road is a pleasant 20 minute walk along the beach. If it's dark or you don't fancy the walk, a taxi to the main road is only 60 rupees (80p) and Calangute is perfectly placed between Baga and Candolim which both cost 100 rupees to get to in a taxi (£1.30). For us what really stood out about this hotel were the staff. They are all really friendly and get talking to them and they'll tell you all about how they live giving you an insight into the real Goa. A few general tips about Goa: Over the first few days of your holidays chat to the taxi drivers and when you find one you like hang onto him. We used a driver called Sunny who works outside the front gates of the Nizmar. The drivers will take you on day trips to exactly the same places as if you booked through your travel company or to secluded beaches for a fraction of the price. They will pick you up from the hotel when you want, drive you around and wait around until you're ready to be driven home. Try the food at the beach shacks, it's unbelievably cheap and was some of the tastiest food we had in Goa. Try to choose some of the larger shacks to be on the safe side and try the seafood which is caught fresh every morning (highly recommend The Sea Pearl on Calangute Beach or Blackies on Coco Beach). The two best restaurants we ate at were The Seashell and Souza Lobos.
Thoroughly Enjoyable Stay at the Nizmar
We have just returned from a last minute holiday at the Nizmar and we loved it. As expected of three star in India the hotel rooms are fairly basic but they are clean and have everything you need - only real complaint would be that standard rooms have opaque glass windows so it can seem a bit dark inside. Breakfast is very simple - just cornflakes, juice, toast etc but you can pay for anything else that you want. The staff were really friendly and the service was great. Although eating out is inexpensive and varied lots of people stay in the Hotel as the food is of a high standard and there is nightly entertainment. The Chinese Restaurant is fabulous but its a shame its hardly used. The hotel is a bit of a way from central Calungute but it doesn't matter as taxis are available at the hotel and really reasonable. You can get one either at the main gates or at the rear gates of the hotel. Our driver was at the back gates and was called Rock. We didn't have to worry about getting anywhere. He knows all the places to take you, he'll find you as many secluded beaches as you want to find, will take you to popular restaurants, markets, spice plantations, shopping, chemist, optician....... in fact anything you want. He was good fun and really reliable. Go to the back gates and ask for him and I'm sure you'll stay with him for the remainder of your stay. Don't go to the Nizmar expecting fabulous accomodation or you will be dissappointed. The fairly basic accomodation was a tiny part of a fabulous holiday. Would we go back?.....We're already planning to!!
Wonderful Month At Nizmar
We have just had 4 wonderful weeks at the Nizmar and every thing was great All staff really friendly, reception always their to help Waiters so friendly and always smiling.Domestic staff always around if you need anything. We can not wait for our next trip to the Nizmar
Nizmar gone downhill
this was my third visit to the Nizmar and unfortunately it has gone downhill somewhat. The room was a lot dirtier than my previous stays there and it looked as if the walls had not been cleaned or decorated since my previous visit a couple of years earlier. We were obvioulsy disappointed and moved to the Goan Heritage which, for the same price, was far superior. Spacious grounds compared to the cramped facilities at Nizmar, clean rooms and right on the beach.
great
Me and my friend recently stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks. Being 2 young girls alone in a strange country we were a bit worried at first, but how wrong could we be. The hotel was fantastic, the staff went out of their way to help you, we even went on the back of their mopeds to the local club to party the night away. Our room was always cleaned to a high standard and the cleaning boys were so friendly always asking how our day was and were we was going. the nightly entertainment was funny although their was only about 4 of us joining in and the food was of high standard. The hotel apperas to be along a main road, however if you fancy a change of scenery dont be afraid to leave the hotel at night and go for a walk as their are some lovely resturants around including suzoie lobos which is on the beach.
Fantastic hotel
My partner and I have just had our first 3 week holiday in Goa and stayed at the Nizmar. We found all the staff to be just fantastic with nothing being too much trouble, even for the rude people that frankly made me embarressed to be English. Even when I was sick and the house keeping boys knocked to clean the room, they made sure I was ok and always checked on me. The standard of cleaning was excellent, the restaurant was excellent as was the evening entertainment, valentines night and carnival night being just fantastic. Yes the walls need a lick of paint, but at the end of the day, for me, as long as the room is clean, the food is good what does a lick of paint on a wall matter. Can't wait for next year.
Excellent
We have just returned from Goa and stayed at the Nizmar. The hotel was excellent the service was second to non. The pooleside snack bar served excellent snacks pool was kept very clean. At bit disappointed with the restaurant in the evenings. The theme nights and attention to detail was fantastic Valentines night was a joy. Afew minor problems with our room but these were sorted promptly. The standard rooms need to be updated and the bathrooms too quite basic rooms were cleaned every day bedding and linen every other day. The outside of the Hotel needs painting as this would enhance its apperance no end.If we did return to Goa again would stay at the Nizmar
