Dabolim airport currency rip offs
8 / 10
Feb 2011, Tom

Just back from Nizmar Resort in Goa after great time. Staff were unfailingly helpful and polite despite usual selection of guests, mainly Brits, who paid 3 star prices but expect 7 star facilities. Additional bonus on arrival was totally unexpected issue of 6 vouchers for free evening buffet meals with excellent, extensive, choice of menu. Our rep was good and advised of very poor rupee to sterling rate available at Dabolim airport when returning home but did not mention the 15% commission charges plus the standing 400 rupee handling charge as well. Signs in outer hall of airport also advise rupees not accepted in duty free shop when in fact they were. Apparently this is not allowed but as with so much in India where money is concerned a blind eye approach is followed. You can use sterling but "no change available" then appeared to be the automatic response from the few shops available airside.
Notwithstanding the airport a great holiday and we are looking to go back next January.

Arrived on 8-3-2010, after a slendid Golden Triangle Tour...What a let down we were supposed to have a superior room on lower level..being 65 climbing flights of stairs are just too much now..we were offered room 316 on top floor ...explained this was not what we requested..they showed us room 210..black mould on walls dark and smelled of a urinal..third move to room 401...omg just awful had not been cleaned damp walls rusty fridge..very basic and in dire need of decorating..we stayed there one night after I watched them clean it...every one was saying their rooms were also bad..next morning demanded a move..our rep was excellent and he upgraded us to Colonia Santa Maria Baga Beach ..what a difference would definately recomend this hotel..we have since learnt Nizmar resort has been taken off the list due to so many complaints..so why did they put us in there in the first place..DONT GO

  • Advice: Dont go hotel is realy bad

We have just returned from the Hotel Nizmar, we were warned about the standard of hotel rooms before we went. This hotel is featured as a 3 star hotel but under european hotel standards I would rate the hotel rooms as a 1 star. The rooms were basic and although clean very basic. All Hotel rooms were equipped with a new air conditioning system which to me was a neccesity, having said that, having got over the initial shock of the room we were more than happy with the hotel facilities and pool area. The food was very good and the staff did their upmost to make you welcome.
we flew from Manhester stopping at Bahrain to refuel. This particular flight was very crampped and made the journey uncomfortable, infact on the way back we stopped twice for refueling also calling at Lanarca Cyprus. we were travelling for 20 hours to get home.Just a word of warning check the leg room on the flight before you book, we were on a downer when we arrived in Goa.
wouldn't say we won't go again, but if we did we would definately stay again at the Nizmar but would not fly with an airline that refuels en route.

Ater 3 extremely enjoyable trips to...

Aug 2008, Mr DM Edwards

Ater 3 extremely enjoyable trips to Goa, staying at the nizmar made me realise that not all is rosey in paradise!! This has to be the worst hotel in Goa. We were double billed several times, money dissapeared from our room on one occasion. We had plenty of ants to keep us company & the aircon sounded like a harrier at take off. The staff generaly were polite & the food good. But dealing with the management was both frustrating & pointless. I love Goa & will be back in feb 2009, but definately not at the nizmar. I`ve also heard the nizmar is now "all inclusive", pointless in a very affordable holiday destination. Avoid the nizmar, get a scooter & explore this beautiful paradise.

We arrived very tired and hot to be told we were booked in the normal twin rooms, we had booked superior at an extra cost, it took a bit of communication to sort it out but it was quickly sorted.
Rooms were spacious as was the bed, air conditioning excellent, clean pool, If therre were no beds available around the pool you only had to ask and would would be provided straight away.
The Staff i.e. waiters, cleaners, barstaff etc etc were Brilliant, as Was Lawrence the Captain, nothing was too much trouble, when you were finished eating tables were cleared very quickly, if you had an empty glass it didnt stay empty for long..
Local beaches were lovely and the food in the shacks excellent, We ate mainly at Rosina's who do a fabulous spring roll with dip and excellent banana milkshakes.
We had the same Taxi driver for the 14 days we were there and nothing was too much trouble, A visit to wash the elephants is a must and the visit to the waterfalls and experience too.
All in all A great holiday and we will definately be returning.

Amazing holiday - but only if you don't expect too much luxury!
Hotel staff and resident Goans could not do enough to help you - all were friendly and happy and none pestered you to buy their products unlike other countries.
Yes, rooms were basic, but they were always clean and tidy, and when there was a problem, staff fixed it straight away.
Amazing entertainment in the night in the hotel - also superb restaurant at the back of the hotel.
Stunning relaxing beach - but make sure you go on some of the expeditions as well (Dhadasaga Falls is out of this world)
Overall, I can't say enough good things about this holiday and this hotel. If you go there expecting a 5* luxury holiday you may be disappointed, but what's the point on going on holiday if it's going to be exactly as the hotels here?
Go expecting an exotic relaxing getaway and you'll get what you expect :)

This is our 3rd time in this hotel so I think that speaks for itself! We found the staff helpful and charming, from reception right down to the room boys.
Comments about the slight shabbiness of the rooms are valid, but you have got to remember you are in India and as we only paid 580 quid per head for 2 weeks and an excellent flight with First Choice, I don’t think you should grumble.
Breakfasts are great, cereal, fruit, juice, tea, coffee, toast, an egg choice, and pastries.
Rooms are cleaned every day and towels changed every other day, and we left loose change, camera, and my husband’s mobile in the room while we were out and all was secure, though I will say do use safety deposit boxes for passports and money, for peace of mind. They cost 700 rupees for 2 weeks less than 10 quid.
Theme nights in the hotel are quite good fun 6 quid a head for a 4 course buffet and entertainment.
Outside things are very cheap, we had a great meal in a Tibetan restaurant, 4 mains 3 puds 4 beers and 4 double brandy and cokes and it cost 8 quid total!
Taxi drivers outside the hotel will arrange trips for you cheaper than the tour operators.
Haggle hard - my friend wanted to buy some wooden musical pipes, starting price 1400 rupees we got them for 250 rupees, remember they won’t sell to you at a loss, so don’t feel guilty at getting a much lower price.
Melonies is a great beach shack Candida is a lovely lady and really looks after you and that end of the beach is quieter. Ask a taxi driver to take you to Utopia; Melonies is the second shack to the left. As always we had a great time hope you do too.

May 2006, Mrs M Dickerson

This was our honeymoon and we arrived to a bottle of wine and red rose petals scattered on our bed. Very sweet! The staff at Nizmar were absolutely fantastic. They couldn't do enough for you. The hotel room was very, very basic, the air con was particularly noisy and we had a few ants, but for the amount of time we spent in there, we coped! The hotel had some kind of entertainment every night, very different!
Towards the end of April, the hotel plays host to a massive conference for Indians from all over India. All the holiday makers felt quite pushed out when they arrived, (over 150 of em!) The hotel staff didn’t know who to please first. The Indians won. They eat as much as they can, all day long.
3 course brekkie, and god knows how many course lunch, dinner, and they were still eating at 11.45pm. Very greedy. However, we did have a dance with them on our last night, they thought we were excellent, and when one fell in the pool, it was hilarious, he couldn’t swim, poor sod! Even his own people were falling around laughing!
Overall, the holiday was fantastic, we are planning to go again to Nizmar, only not when the conference is held!

I thought the hotel was basic, our room was large but could do with a refurb (paint, new curtains & bedspread), at least we had electricity and running water but the air con was noisy!
Staff were generally polite but at times lacked customer service skills and thought nothing of continuing a conversation with other colleagues when customers were awaiting attention.
If you wanted a sun bed you had to be up and at breakfast at 0700 to reserve one, we went to the beach everyday. Beach very nice, sea not so - strong undercurrents with life guards by name only, drownings during our time there, we reported an incident to the police on the beach but there was lack of interest and enthusiasm to follow it up!
Bad experience at Rajasthan Heritage (out of the front of the hotel and turn right, less than a minutes walk on the right) when buying jewelry, finally received what I had ordered at 11.12pm on the Friday before I was due to leave the hotel at 6.15am on the Sat morning, not entirely happy with the end result but what could I do at that time, staff were unconcerned with my frustration, disappointment and anger!
Will return but will probably go independently next time and book my own flight and accommodation, not as part of a package.

Our room looked like it had just been...
4 / 10
Apr 2006, heppy

Our room looked like it had just been patched up, there were patches of paint everywhere where the worst bits were. Our shower room had tiles missing on the floor so the water couldn't drain away, this led to an infestation of flies gathering around the water over night so we woke up to that every morning.
The room itself was kept very clean by the hard working maids.
For most of the 1st week we were woken very early in the morning by furniture being moved about in the rooms above, when we complained we were told that the rooms were being made ready for guests arriving later that day, this was 5.30 in the morning nearly every morning, we spent most of the day on the beach trying to catch up with our sleep.
In the second week we left a bit of money out for our taxi back to the airport, when we got back to our room it had gone missing, again we reported this but nothing happened, I’m just glad we used the safety deposit boxes for the rest of the holiday or we might have lost all our valuables.
I don't think we will be visiting this hotel again or going back to Goa in a hurry, its changed since the 1st time I went and not for the better.

Excellent hotel. Situated in a prime shopping area enabling you to visit shops such as Reebok, Nike, Bennetton and Lacoste.
All these shops have latest designs at a HUGE discount. Excellent. Goa is a wonderful place to visit and is somewhere I certainly will be visiting again!
