Absolutely atrocious
from SambucaQueen
I have just returned from the Los Salmones apartments in Playa del Ingles, Gran Canaria. We booked with a travel operator aimed at young people as we do for our holiday every year and so fully expected noise and mayhem but this holiday was horrendous. The apartments themselves were basic but fine. We were there for a week and the towels were changed once and the sheets werent changed at all. The pool area, bar and reception were lovely. We did have a few cocroaches but nothing that I wouldnt expect in the Canaries. I travelled with 11 other girls all aged from 20-26. The problems began when we were put on the ground floor. Our apartment was broken into within 12 hours of our arrival. The thief entered through the back patio window which we had not opened and so I can only assume that it was left unlatched before we arrived as there was no sign of damage. The whole apartment was then gone through with a fine toothed comb, with the thief taking everything of value, leaving only clothes and suitcases. Luckily our passports and majority of money were in the safety deposit box but even this had been attempted to be wrenched from the wall with what looked like a crow bar. The thief then exited through the front door which was left swinging wide open. We alerted reception immediately on discovering what had happened and were met with a shrug of the shoulders and told to ring the rep. The staff were not bothered in the slightest and were no help at all. The rep was helpful telling us the number for the police station etc. We then had to ring the police and let them know what was stolen and then 48 hours later had to attend the police station in person to collect the report for insurance purposes. This was a nightmare, the police did not speak a word of English and the report was completely in Spanish. We were asked to sign this report to verify that it was correct. We explained best we could that we didnt understand what was written but were met with a shrug of the shoulders and so signed as we couldnt claim for goods stolen without this. (Since arriving back we have discovered that a lot of items which they didnt understand have been put on the report as miscellaneous other item which we are unable to claim for on insurance). I have been on many holidays aimed at young people and have visited all the busy resorts ie; Magaluf, Malia, Zante, in fact I have made a fair amount of noise myself and I know that this is part of one of these type of holidays. The Los Salmones was horrendous. You cant sit outside your apartment without something being thrown at you ie: glass ashtrays, food, matresses etc etc etc. from the floors above. Every single night there was an absolute riot, I cant even begin to explain how bad these were. They were terrifying. I witnessed full on brawls with glasses being thrown, the sound of breaking glass was constant throughout every night from midnight till 6am. Some one in the neighbouring hotel kept firing an airgun at passing people. The fire hose was turned on and caused Niagra Falls from the top floor. Fire extiguishers were set off, armed police were regular visitors just bashing anyone in sight. The maids trolley was thrown from the 5th floor. It really was like a football riot every single night. The apartments are next to an Irish Centre which we went to on the first night. We were suprised to be given a free bottle of Vodka on arrival but once inside this explained the behaviour of the people in there. The bars were full of obviously underage people who were off their faces, the music is hardcore rave and sweat drips from the roof. The next nearest centre is the Kasbah centre which is has the best bars and clubs. You are lured into pubs by offers of 2 for one drinks but can then expect to pay 9 euros which means you are paying for the 2 anyway. The other main centre is the Yumbo Centre which is the main place for gays. We went here once ecpecting to have a great time as although we are straight we have had some of our best nights out in gay clubs but not here. The place was deserted and the only pub with anyone in it was men only. All in all Playa del Ingles is a lovely place with nice beaches and restaurants. The nightlife is terrible and the Los Salmones apartments is a war zone. I hope it doesnt sound like I have exagerated this as if anything I have underplayed how bad it was. I am still waiting for Jeremy Beadle to jump out and tell me it was all a wind up!
Great 2 star Accomodation

There were 9 of us staying in the apartments, and four fitted comfatablely in one room, the cupboards were well stocked with plates and glasses, the maid came 5 time one week and twice the second week which i was not expecting, and the reception staff were ok. sadly our room overlooked the duel carriageway which is very noisy at all hours. There was a cockroach problem, we werre on the 4th floor and the biggest one we saw in our room was only a inch, i think they get bigger the lower the floors. However a man was fumigating rooms the day we left. for 18 - 30 type groups its great! the pool is really busy and sunloungers go before 12! I would recommend going into the town to eat.

I stayed at the Los Salmones Apartments (Room 335) from the 10th - 17th June 2006 with my mate and had a great time!! I was a bit worried tho as a few people had told me that there was alot of theft happening around this comlex and that the apartments theselves were very dirty but when i arrived i was relieved that all this i had heard was total rubbish!!!!! It was one of the most cleanest, titdest apartments i have ever stayed in.(and i must state the pool was just brilliant, the cleanest around).... ok its very standard, u just have the basics (but sure what else do u want for a weeks holiday).. and for the resonable price we paid 4 the holiday we were very pleased with our accomadation and would def stay there again!!!! This resort is definately for the younger generation.... i personally wouldnt recommend it for older couples or familys!!! But if u are going with a group of mates who are there 4 a good time then Los Salmones is the place to stay!!!! (with just a 5 min walk from all the best pubs and clubs)!!! We met some great friends there... the staff and eveyone around is very friendly!!!
all round good holiday

Stayed at the Los Salmones in november 2004 as part of a late deal holiday. I was worried because I hadnt realised it was 2*, so imagine my surprise when we arrived to see a nice clean looking building with even cleaner rooms! The pool was lovely and the bar staff and area was good also. We never heard any traffic noise as some other people claim to have and we thought it wa sin ideal location, close to the beach and nightlife. We met some wonderful people out there and if we went back (which we plan on doing) I wouldnt hesitate to stay there again.
Motorway hell

What the brochures do not tell you is that the complex is situated next to a busy, 24 hour road. Trafic noise, if you are on the unfortunate side of the towers is TERRIBLE. Do you leave the windows open and get a lot of noise, or close them and have a stuffy, hot room? The choice is yours. Beds were soft, self catering equipment poor. Hire a toaster for €10 per week, we thought this was a joke, but it is true. Same for coffee makers. This is just mean.
Not like I read about in previous reviews !!!!

I don´t know what all the fuss was about. We (my wife and I) holidayed from 4th to 11th of March this year and NO BUGS, Cockroaches, flies etc) the odd Honey bee and the standard was quite high. The Cleaners were in almost daily and they were cheerful and friendly. We would most definitely come back here again. The Bar Staff were excellent (second to none) and the food in the various resturaunts we visited was fabulous. Need I say any more!. Come to Los Salmones and leave your cares and worries behind. TOP NOTCH ALL THE WAY...........
Great Value for money

Okay we were on the trip from hell... 9 of us came for new years eve and were booked in to the Guinae Apartments down the road..... We arrived late at night and the manager came out and told us they were fully booked!!!! and we had been split up into to two seperate hotels!!! Can you believe it!!! and to top it off one was not even in Play del Ingles!!! it was 10 mintues in a taxi in San Augustin!!!!! Ok so half of us had been booked into Los salmones. After about an hour talking to the receptionist they managed to find one room for the other half of the group, and we had to pay for it but at least we were all in the same hotel!!! (Our holiday company are refunding the whole trip) OK on to Los Salmones.... Basic rooms but adequate i dont worry about the self catering bit as we eat out every night anyway! The pool was lovely and massive ,and with a mountain backdrop it was really lovely! Pool bar etc was good and overall the complex was fine it even has tennis courts and a playground and a avery! You get what you pay for and for £10 a night per person this was just fine! We will come here again as its ideal for a large group but it also had lots of families too.
simply not the best

We stayed here for 14 nights and although it is idealy situated for the night life and only five minutes walk from the beach, this is about it has in its favour. The room was very basic with very few utensils for self catering (one pan !!), and all neeeded a good clean before use. The room itself could have been cleaner and there were plent broken or chiped tiles, and sockets hanging from the walls. The room serviceing was something else (we gave ours the name of Mrs Doubtfire) and boy could she move taking only 4 minutes one day to clean the apartment. Towels and sheets must be in short supply as the towels were only changed twice a week and the sheet would not have been changed if we did not complain on day 11. We stayed in tower 2 and the noise levels were very low apart for the woman with the high heels in the apartment above us.
Ok if you like cockroaches!

We went to Gran Canaria with First Choice on an Allocation on Arrival holiday. Playa Del Ingles is just like Blackpool in the sun. If you're going to Gran Canaria for boozing and sunshine then it's great...but we were looking for a peaceful holiday so it wasn't ideal! Anyways, when we arrived in Gran Canaria we were put in the Los Salmones hotel on the ground floor and the room was absolutely vile. We hadn't paid much for it and we knew that we could be put up in a 2* place so were expecting something basic but foolishly I also expected it to be clean! The apartment looked like it had never been cleaned - the walls were covered in brown marks, the light switches were hanging off the walls, the bed sheets were full of holes and don't get changed throughout your stay, and it was crawling with cockroaches. One night there were about six in the room and I was woken the next day by a giant cockroach climbing the bed post - it was then that we asked to be moved! The staff were very helpful and let us choose between two other rooms. We took one on the top floor which was the same layout but seemed a bit cleaner and we didn't get any cockroaches in there - if you do stay here I'd definately recommend that you try and avoid staying on the ground floor - we were much happier in the second room. Other things which weren't great about the apartments were the noise (it's right next to a main road), the fact that you have to pay to hire basic things like a safe, kettle etc and you have to slot money into the tv to watch it. If you're going to Gran Canaria on your first holiday with your mates and you want somewhere lively then I reckon this will be fine, but if you are looking for a peaceful break with nice surroundings Playa Del Ingles is definately not for you - Maspolomas or Puerto de Mogan are much nicer.
Staying at Los Salmones is a Must

Me and my boyfriend have just returned home from a 1-week holiday in Gran Can with club 18-30. We had a fantastic time. The weather was great for October and the apartments were great for what we wanted. We only slept in them for 2 hours max per night as we were too busy drinking, dancing and singing karaoke with the mates we met. Everyone was so friendly and up for a laugh. The apartment complex was full of yougsters all up for a laugh all day and night so if your a family with young children and want a quiet nights sleep, dont stay at Los Salmones. The clubs dont kick off until about midnight and go on until 7am so the hotel is noisy right through the night. We went on 3 of the 18-30 excursions, which were all good fun and pretty good value for money. The majority of them include a 2-3 hour inclusive bar so as long as you can down one after another you get your moneys worth. The reps were wicked and so much fun. Matt, who was based at the hotel did get called out to me and my mate claire one night (well it was 6.30am) as we wanted to sleep by the poolside and the security wouldnt let us. He was a bit stroppy but he soon got over it and we were all best buddys again.Haha! It isnt worth attempting anything like that as security get violent. They carry batons which they smack you round the back of the head with so unless your up for a good spanking, dont bother. The apartments were basic but this suited us. They were cleaned twice in the week but the bedding wasnt changed once. We got clean towels every couple of days so all in all it could have been better but also a hell of a lot worse. We had a ground floor apartment which was very convenient as we could just walk out onto the poolside. The downside to this was that our belongings got stolen. You cant leave towels and swimwear out to dry like you can if your on the 2nd-5th floors. The layout of the blocks are great. They are circular buildings with open roofs with rooms coming off around the sides. The pool was lovely and very big. The poolside and pool were cleaned daily and there were lots of sunbeds so there wasnt a mad rush to reserve them. We were very surprised at how busy it was for October.Every sunbed was taken by 9.30am. There is a bar at the apartments which sells fantastic freshly squeezed orange juice. You must try one! All alcoholic drinks are very cheap there so its a good bar to start the crawl at. They also have some entertainment in the evenings such as karaoke, which was good fun. Generally drink prices are not much cheaper than the UK so make sure you sort a good deal out with the PR's outside the bars in Kasbah before you walk in. We arranged buy one, get one free alnight and 2 free bottles of archers. The beach was lovely, very big with watersports etc. There are lots of bars and really nice restaurants along the beach front, which you must eat at. The best is Roma. They have 2 live acts performing a night which are really good. We saw Elvis, the Blues Brothers and a Flaminco dancing show. All in all, we had a fantastic week at Los Salmones and will hopefully be returning in 2006 for another mad holiday.
came back yesterday which was the 7th of november, from this hotel,it was a nightmare place was dirty, cockroaches were huge, all sockets were hanging off the wall, bedding was not changed at all, only changed towells the day before we left, beds were like sleeping on the floor... more
