I suffered an upset stomach, sickness and diarrhea, not due to the water, I used only bottled water very carefully, I can only attribute it to the food, 3 days out of my 7 days holiday were lost due to this.
For a hotel of this size I counted only 4 lifts.
I think a realistic grading for this hotel would be a 3 star at best.

very poor quality 1 star at most dissapointed ARMSTRONG 26 AUGUST
just back from riadh palms, some staff ok, others like the coloured guy pulling the beer from the only bar for everybody, what a misarable so &so only 2 drinks at a time the glasses are all chipped on the edges beware they only half fill with beer, the machines for your soft drinks just trickle very slowly in the bar and down by the beach, no sunbeds on the beach, only some sort of deck chairs the food in the beach restaraunt beware very poor, plus hygiene something to be desired crockery very badly chipped, tables absolutely filthy,me & my son both had bad stomachs & vomitting,im still suffering myself 3 days after returning. would not go to this hotel again if i was given free holiday + spending money beware STAY CLEAR EVEN THE LOCAL TAXI DRIVERS TOLD US STORIES ABOUT THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!!
Liked the pool and sea view
My partner and our three children stayed at the Riadh Palms hotel from the 25th July -8th August, on an all inclusive basis. Our room was a lovely, big family room, bright and airy with an amazing sea view. Maids cleaned the room every day. Be prepared to wait ages for a lift as there are only four for the entire hotel! Which is so annoying, standing there with a baby in a buggy and two young children, waiting for the lift and when it finally comes it's completely full! Restaurant was fine, waiters were hard working and friendly. In the afternoon crepes and hot rolls with chicken were served. Although they were great, watch out for the guy serving the chicken rolls at Neptune snack bar by the pool. Very moody and will only give you two, even though you are all inclusive and should be able to have as many as you want! Made it awkward for us as we were unable to bring some back for each other as one of us would be watching our children. Same goes for the beer, tastes great, but at times you were only given one beer at a time, when you should be able to have two, also guy serving there was moody. I think perhaps a lot of it is due to the hard work they do, but then other members of staff were very helpful and friendly.. A lot of the beer glasses are very badly chipped all around the rim, so we drank out of a straw! Animation guys were great. They put a lot of time and effort in perfecting their acts and work so hard. Pool was wonderful, so refreshing and clean. There is a separate, circular childrens pool, with loungers all around it. Talking of loungers, if you would like a lounger around the pool area then you have to be up at six to put a towel on it, or pay one of the pool guys to do it, apparently, as I was told. We never bothered getting up so early to do that, we managed to find some loungers away from the pool area on our way to breakfast, around eight. Sea looks gorgeous, but beware of jellyfish! My daughter and I were swimming away from the shore when one stung her arm. We rubbed sand on it, (as you're advised to do) and showed her arm to one of the beach workers. He showed us a bucket with some jellyfish in that he'd caught. On leaving the beach my daughter was sick three times! Her arm was like a pink map, with all the lines in different directions! It became quite swollen, but she was ok after I applied some Germoline cream and the stinging eased. We didn't go in the sea after that! It may be ok if you stay close to the shore, I don't know, but just be on the lookout! Also sand becomes boiling hot, so don't forget flip flops! Would definitely recommed paragliding. Only 40 Dinar for two people (which is roughly £20), well worth the money. It is available on the beach all day, you can see it from your room, too, which is great. There's also jet skiing, banana boat, etc. Although we can't really fault the hotel, very clean and well looked after, but there were around 90% German tourists staying there, with a few Eastern Europeans and the rest English. The entertainment is mainly in German and geared towards German tourists. It wouldn't really bother us if it was just the two of us, but it was a shame for our children, although my nine year old did make friends with someone. You can see that this hotel is great for families, lots of children around, we just felt left out of it and if you did hear English spoken you were amazed! The staff speak English though. Also it didn't help that most of the other tourists staying there were not exactly polite and friendly! When we booked this holiday with Future Travel, we were told that the hotel has a majority of English tourists staying there, which obviously wasn't the case! But we still had a nice holiday. We think two weeks there was too long though!
Excellent relaxing atmosphere
We have recently arrived home from another excellent trip to Tunisia, we have been to the country twice now and loved it both times, so much so that myself and a friend are going back to stay in Riadh Palms again next year...... The weather was excellent, the bar staff and restauraunt staff were ok, but the head of the restaurant was an absolute delight so helpful and friendly. The evening entertainment was a little repetative at times but the Animation team worked hard to perfect their shows, however still need a little work........ Overall loved it and cant wait to go back. Pool clean and beautiful, beach was beautiful hotel was good but they need MORE LIFTS!!!
A relaxing holiday in a decent standard hotel
I was a little worried to read some of the reviews of the hotel, having been switched at the last minute due to overbooking at our original choice, but having done the all-inclusive, hotel-based sun and sea holiday in Greece (twice), Turkey and Egypt, this hotel was above the norm from our experience. We paid £330 each (including flights from Manchester for the week); I do wonder what some people think they're going to get for the money. As the poster from Romania noted, the star system should be taken as a relative guide; expecting to get Western European 4 / 5 star accommodation and service for this price is just silly. The hotel was generally clean with plenty of staff to keep on top of things. We were perhaps lucky in that, as a couple, we were given a room with 4 beds. Everything worked fine including the hot water and air-con and who gets worked up about the lack of TV channels when they're on holiday?! The food was fine but starts to get a little samey by the end of the week, but that's been true of all the all-inclusives we've booked before. A big plus was the beer which has in the past been rather watery but this was the "full fat" local Celtia brew and very nice it was too (bet the Germans in particular liked it!). And the doughnuts and crepes in the afternoon :-) We didn't want a great deal in the way of entertainment and simply wanted to be looked after whilst we chilled out and read books, etc. but we're glad we went on the two day desert adventure trip (160 dinars per person) which finished off the week nicely and was great value for money. There are a lot of variations on the theme but we got a nights' hotel in Douz (similar standard if not better than the Riadh Palms) with lunch both days, evening meal, transport, etc and it really made the holiday for us. We were in a tiny minority of Brits the week we were there - most people seemed to be from East European countries and Russia in so far as I knew they weren't speaking more common languages - and I get the impression the clientele is fairly cosmopolitan much of the time. I guess this lack of English-speaking people to mix with might be a problem for some but as said before we just wanted to unwind and in our own company. In summary, if you're the sort of person who wants perfection in a holiday you'll be disappointed by the Riadh Palms, but if you remind yourself in advance you're going to a country that still has a long way to go in terms of achieving a Western standard of living (if indeed they want to) so some things might not be as professional as in more mature holiday destinations, and you regard your holiday glass as being half full, then you'll have a great time.
Nice Hotel .. more 3* than 4*
After a disasterious start to our holiday staying at the Monastir centre (don't go there!!) we moved to the Riadh Palms. The hotel is clean and in it's hey day was obviously very grand. There is a beautiful fountain in the foyer but this was not on. The room was simple and clean and we had a great view of the sea. Unfortunately we only really had one full day of sunshine but that's the risk you take of going away in April. The food was mainly geared to the German and French guests but it was fresh and edible and although very similar every day, there was many dishes to try. The only thing that was a little annoying was that breakfast finished far too early .. 9am!! The pool area was very pretty and the staff around the pool were helpful and fun. They prepared fresh crepes and doughnuts every afternoon by the pool which were delicious. There is also a private beach joined onto the hotel which was cleaned and well maintained. The main bar served local alcohol including vodka and whisky and stayed open until 1am which was excellent. The evening entertainment was not all that but the staff really tried hard and were very friendly .. look out for Ioub .. he's lovely!! There is a chicca bar that is beautiful and a nightclub but to be honest this was far too loud. The medina for shopping is about 15 minutes walk away or a 2 dinar (80p) taxi ride and it is great to wander and haggle. Just don't go up there too late as the locals seem to change and are not so friendly.... Across the road from the hotel are a few restaurants including the lovely Le Gondole (highly recommended) and also a karaoke bar Bonaparte's. All in all, I would not turn down another holiday at the Riadh Palms but I would not say it was a 4* hotel .. it needs a little work to be that!!
Beware Dog Hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just returned from this hotel and all I can say is what a dog hole!!! We arrived late at night and they put some food on for us (Which we thought was really nice of them) but it was terrible, the food was cold and dry as though it had been there 3 weeks. We then had to wait to be checked into our rooms so went to watch the animation team, They were great with children but anything over the age of 16 and they were like animals. Me and my friend went there for a cheap week away to relax and enjoy the weather, We didnt get either, apart from the fact it rained 4 days out of 7 we didnt even get to relax as the men were like dogs on heat, I had bruises all over my arms from the men just randomly grabbing me and it just got worse from there these men didnt know the meaning of the word NO. There was only a handful of british in the whole f the hotel the rest were German and French, The whole experience (and it was an experience) was just awful, we couldnt wait to get home. Please dont go there if you are single girls on your own!!!!!!
Good quality/price, over average hotel
I'm surprised to see so many people lining up and insisting on "so many problems" in this hotel.DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU EXPECT FROM A 4 STAR HOTEL IN TUNISIA! You should look on the streets and see how poor are these people.Looking from this point of view, it's amazing how they finally managed to provide tourism services. The surroundings are wonderfull (the sea and the beach, the sand...) IT'S NOT PARIS OR ROME, you should be aware of that. Compared, indeed it's a 2+, max 3 star hotel in Europe. I've been there and generally, everything was O.K. The hotel is full (almost 80%) of germans, all the staff working there know German (language) and even the sport trainer was educated in Germany. They are extremelly polite, kind and opened to anything you want. Almost every night they had an entertaining moment with music and dance, especially for the older ages was perfect. Even thou we are about 30, we appreciated their effort on this. They have an indoor pool and an outdoor pool. Even some tenis tables.... There are indeed two different items: - the negative part: the rooms, poor aspect with A.C. out of service, modest bathroom (2 star rated) but CLEAN (at least ours was clean and didn't have to give any additional money) -the positive part: the restaurant, anything you wanted: 20 types of GOOD food european and asian, salads, juices, 20 sorts of sweets, icecreams, fruits, excellent cofee....only wine and beer was on your own cost. Didn't met such offer anywhere till then. No where in Europe they offer such meals for this cost. One elder pair from Germany told us that they couldn't live in Germany a whole week at this standard, for ONLY 300-350 EUR. Cause this was the cost of our stay (7 nights) including AIR transport (charter). In Paris, it's 300EUR / NIGHT in a GOOD 4 stars hotel!!! cause you may have surprises there, too. So, in our opinion, the hotel was O.K. even its situation was O.K. Near enough to the city part, market and bazaar. I've heard some other friends of ours who had chosen other 4 or even 5 stars hotels, saying they were very dissapointed of the food (cause the rooms are all the same everywhere). So, at least we gained at this point. YOU CAN NOT STAY IN A R E A L 4-5 STAR HOTEL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, FOR ONLY 350 EUR A WHOLE WEEK (ALL INCLUDED). Overall, everything was fine, indeed. Don't be so frightened. I don't think that Germans choose miserable hotels. Our dissaponting part was the time we choose to go there: Ramadan, about 5 a clock everything around you ,was closed and remained alone on the streets. When going for shopping: don't say where are you from. They have special prices for each nation. For example, a simple purse goes from 200 dinars for west europeans, gets down to 100-75 dinars for east europeans while the real price is 40-50. And get better U.S. dollars cause 1 U.S is almost 1 dinar.
really enjoyed ourselves at Riadh Palms
Wow, after reading other peoples reviews I am quite shocked. We had a great week vacation & we were very disappointed to leave. The common areas are beautiful & immaculate. Ok, the room was nothing to write home about, but then again when we go on vacation we do not spend much time in it. We did find the toliet sometimes hard to flush & the bed was lumpy. We were on the nineth floor & did have some short waits for the lift, but I could see how it could be a problem during a high season. The employees were always friendly with us. We arrived quite late & the staff had fresh fruit, plates of desserts & bottled water waiting for us in our room. The bartenders were very courtious & only short waits (maybe more of an issue during high season). Our waiter in the main dining room was very attentive & friendly (it helped that we could speak German to him for his English was very limited). Our maid did a OK job cleaning our room. She did neglect to take our dishes a few times, but someone quickly took them when we placed them outside our door. Also, the front desk was very helpful with in assisting us to rent a car at very last minute (we wanted one within an hour). The entertainment staff was brilliant. The first morning we were walking around the pool, the kid's club leader came and greeted us. Our son loved the kid's club & the kinder disco everynight. Our son made so many new friends from so many different countries during these activities that when there was no activities he had friends to play with in the spielplatz, pool & gameroom. We found the food to be better than we expected. I am a vegetarian & found more than enough items to enjoy. The food did become a bit repetitive towards the last day. But the ice cream & dates always made up for it! The beach is kept very clean & is an incredible experience except for people trying to sell stuff. If you are firm they tend to stay away. The pool and the setting around it is beautiful & also, very maintained. Overall, we would go back in a heart beat!
4 star it is not - UK 2 star just
This is not 4 star accommodation. Rooms very basic, beds uncomfortable and decor not good. No hairdryer in the room, dodgy electrics and TV small portable, no remote and only CNN english channel. Food well cooked, plenty of it and friendly staff. Think twice!! there is much better for your money elsewhere.
awful, just awful!
This hotel was definately not 4 star! On arrival, our rooms were not ready. We ordered a cot for one of teh rooms, this was not delivered until 4am. Also ordered water for the baby, this did not arrive at all. My clothes were ruined in the laundry and my husband had an ordeal retrieiving it from management. When asked to see manager, I was informed that he was on holiday and there was someone filling in. We did eventually find out that he was infact the manager and his senior was in the hotel the whole time! In way of apology, some poor excuse for fruits and water was sent to our room. The rooms itself were uncomfortable, dirty and below 1 star standard. With a lot of persistence and tipping to the maid we managed to have our room cleaned to an vaguely decent standard. I would not recomment this hotel to anyone, visit at your own risk!
