Submitted By: UKDuckyThe bedroom was adequate and clean BUT apart from a TV (with only CNN in english) there was nothing. No kettle, no fridge, not even a hairdryer. The bathroom was equally bare, just one hand towel and body towel per person, WHICH YOU WERE NOT ALLOWED TO USE OUTSIDE OF YOUR ROOM..... handsoap in dispensers on the wall of the bath/shower, which had cracking pressure and plenty of hot water.
The rooms were cleaned daily if you wanted - however there was a lot of petty theft and we saw a maid go into rooms without any equipment in her hands or a trolley so why???
Food was ok, breakfast was european style, NO BACON. Cereal was only choco-ish flakes and Vanilla flakes, not cornflakes more like chopped biscuit flakes. Fried eggs were prepared to order. Lunch and Dinner was much the same day in day out - I like pasta/rice/mediterranean dishes so I was quite satisfied however it was always cold, there was a microwave to pop-de-ping yer meal though. If you don't like med food, then you'll not be impressed. Not much veg options either, and most cooked veg was oily to be honest, there was a wide choice of salads and sweets/cakes and plenty of apples/oranges/tangerines. The fruit juice was NOT fruit, it was more like fruit flavoured syrup watered down.... yak!
Both me and my sister suffered from delhi belly during our stay - make of that what you will.
the pool area was clean, and supervised (unused due to the weather) and if you tipped the guy he would save you a bed in a good spot.
the entertainment - what little there was, existed in the late evening 9.30pm onwards and in a disco where there was a bar but you had to pay if you were all inclusive. The disco was HOUSE - nothing anybody wanted seeing as the majority of the residents were over 50 - german/dutch and there for 2-3 months!
THE 4 STAR RATING WAS GIVEN TO THIS HOTEL IN 1973 when i'm sure anybody visiting would have thought it was palacial - but today, it looked very dated, dusty, grotty but had it's charm. If you want a quiet holiday just sitting around drinking beer and chatting and grazing on salad then you'll be very happy, me, I wanted sun (not their fault we didn't get it of course) poolside music and lots of beer in the evening. One thing to bear in mind, when the bottles of spirit run out - that's yer lot cocker - one night a group of Spanish students hit the bar and drank it dry - they had an allocation of 3ltrs of each of Brandy/Whiskey/Vodka/Gin/Martini and a couple of others, and cocktails made using that awful syrupy fruit juice. Beer was like Amstel - quite nice actually, and the wine was the local brew and also very tasty.
MORE GOSSSS..... there were prostitutes working in the hotel, and I mean MALE who were happy to be with men and women alike - this was NOT hidden and permitted by the hotel management. They didn't take money but were expected to be "cared for" ie, they were invited to stay and in return for their "services" their stay was paid for by the guest on a daily basis - that's how we were told it worked. Even we were approached by a young guy who walked by us 3 or 4 times, attempted to make eye contact and when by mistake I looked up as he was looking across the room, took that to mean he could invite himself to interrupt our card game and ask if he could sit with us and keep us company....I don't chuffin well think so matey! This is not an exaggeration and although we were highly amused watching the obvious action - it did disgust us when we saw this old white european guy with a young dark tunisian lad following him like a puppy.
When you walk down the streets ladies cover up - it is a muslim country and you stand out like a sore thumb when you wear a brief top. They approach you on the street all the time and in addition to the shopkeepers and their staff it all gets a LOT too much and we were completely fed up to the back teeth after a couple of hours. Get used to men approaching you saying they are a security guard or waiter at your hotel (hide your AI wristband) and try to lead you to a shop where they say... i know where you can buy cheap.....blah blah blah - at times you have to be brutal give the look of death and sternly say NO. If you are polite and say no "thankyou" they take that as a way to carry on pursuing you and won't let go, they will follow you for yards and yards until you are firm or just downright nasty! Sunglasses to avoid eye contact are a must.
The internet at the hotel is not reliable - slow (like dial up) and expensive, 6 dina for 30 mins no MSN. We found PUBLINET shop 5 mins walk away - it's opposite the calypso bar entrance which has a red stick out into the street cover. left out of hotel, cross the road to the right and take the right fork in the road PUBLINET shop is the first building on a side street on the right - you can't miss it if you pay attention! 2 dina for an hour and it's broadband - you can MSN on there no problem and you don't get hastled, they were nice peeps in there - just had to endure the pestered walk there and back!
We made friends with loads of peeps, german, dutch and english, and found no problem getting along with all the age ranges - but that's a brit thing isn't it. There were plenty of laughs (and moans) and to be honest it was that aspect of the holiday that we enjoyed but this is the first time I've been happier to leave than arrive - even though it was snowing in the UK!!!!
Advice: AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE you'll get hounded constantly by all the leering tunisian men (women scarce)
Activities: Port trip was good (same stuff in all the shops tho)
" Never Again! "
Submitted By: wicksIf you are under the age of 55 I would not recommend going in January because It was like being In a German retirement home.
On the plus side the hotel Is clean and the food was good but not very hot. If you have a sweet tooth try the cakes they are really good.
I am English and my boyfriend Is Latvian. We are nice polite people but for some reason we had trouble getting drink at dinner as they were only Interested In pleasing the German pensioners!
We would watch as they got chairs pulled out for them and topped up drinks while we sat with empty glasses!
We found this quite funny because usually we leave good tips but not In this case.
The weather was bad all week so we tried to make the best of It and go for a swim and a sauna. We went down to the Indoor pool and asked the guy who sits by the pool If we could use the sauna, He then tried to sell us some spa treatments which were not cheap ( about £120) We said no thank you and again asked about the sauna In which he told us to come back In an hour and the sauna would be on. So we came back after an hour and the sauna was still not working. We asked him why It was still not on and he said to go to the reception. So we did and they said It was nothing to do with them and to go back and ask the guy at the pool again!!!
We were starting to get annoyed by this and went back again and asked him to put the sauna on. He then told us the sauna was broken!!!!
As the weather was bad we thought we would go to a museum, so we asked the receptionist where to go and she told us where a good one was so we got a Taxi after trying not to get ripped off we got to the museum and It was closed as they were making Improvements. It had been shut for a while you would think the hotel staff would know this before sending us there?
The rest of the week we were just getting pestered for money and talked to like we were Idiots.
One man said he was from our hotel and got us Into a very dark shop and tried to get us to buy jewelry we said no about 15 times before he let us go without following us!
Then a woman came and spoke to us and she was asking If I had a camera as I could take some nice pictures. I thought she was trying to steal my camera or just see how much money I had. I was here with my boyfriend who Is no fool and even he had trouble getting her to stop following us.
I would not mind so much but the Medina has nothing to offer but cheap tat that you can get from anywhere!!
Lastly the Entertainment ( If you could call It that!) was very poor and there was not much of It.
There was a german keyboard player most nights but we could not hear him as His speakers were tiny things you would use with a computer! One night this young guy mimed very badly to some songs wearing a dress. We saw the funny side but It was really bad.
I would not recommend the hotel or Tunisia when It is out of season.
Advice: No!
Activities: Sidi Bou Said's Is a nice looking town, all In white and blue
" Excellent value for money "
Submitted By: mo.khalfanYes there are issues relating to service and general cleanliness which every 3/4 star hotel is faced up to, the over all holiday experience is absolutely marvelous.
Room facing the beach and palm trees, hot sun shine, lovely sand on clean beaches, friendly people, good food, slow and relaxed life. (Would you get any of this at all back in England and at the price - of course not)
So why not go there enjoy it while you can and make the most of it and stop moaning and complaining about petty things. So what if there are French, German and Russians staying at the Riadh Palm - they are decent enough people mostly aged and looking to have good time like me and you.
Please note that Tunisia is a Jewel in the Mediterranean Crown and an excellent place in the sun to visit with good respectable and friendly people. It is not part of the EU but is doing its utmost to welcome the people from the EU and doing a damn good job of it.
Our advise, dont listen to critics with high expectations, try it yourself and you will enjoy your stay at the Riadh Palm.

" A lovely Holiday "
Submitted By: kebab3112The hotel probably doesn't deserve the 4* rating probably more 3*. Some of the hotel looks a little tired and they should definitely sack the decorator (he seems to get more paint on the carpet / tiles than on the walls). Bathroom a little dated and could do with re-grouting. That aside the staff all very friendly and helpful. The whole hotel was very clean. Food OK. in am a vegetarian so did find it a little limited but still something for everyone.
Hotel right on the beach, pool lovely.
The all inclusive package was good, Basically food, Beer, wine - all day. Spirits and limited cocktails in the evening.
Entertainment OK. not the best.
If you fancy eating out then head to the Saloon Bar. (come out of the hotel and turn right, Top of the hill on the left) Biggest burger I have ever seen. Cost about £20.00 inc Bottle of wine and two main courses. (nice for a change from the hotel food)
Little train thing goes from Sousse town to port el Kantoi worth a go if you cant be bothered to haggle for a cab. Was 2.5 Dinar (£1.25) each to the port. Just flag it down out side the hotel. (runs about every 30 mins but not always on time).

Submitted By: Mrs S BladesSome other things to note, The pirate boat trip is a complete waste of money you just sit on the boat for 3 hours and you don't even get a transfer back to the hotel in the price you have to make you own way home, avoid like the plague. The camel trip is fine much better value for money but if you are an animal lover you may be upset by the condition of some of the animals. Also do not pay more than 2 dinar for a taxi to the medina. Taxis to and from the airport shouldnt be any more than 30 dinar. And Port el Kantoui is worth a visit. its lovely. Hope you enjoy your holiday.

Submitted By: Mr G Garnerpoolside food was always good, from local fish dishes to good old beef burgers and chicken done on the BBQ,
went to the medina, and thought it was good, just wasnt keen on the store owners/assistants dragging you every which way trying to coax you to buy stuff from their shops, loads of stuff to buy, all fake designer labels, but very cheap, and you can always barter on their prices, quite often knocking the prices down to under 1/2 of what they originally wanted for them.
if you go there, the one thing you DEFINATELY have got to try is the form of transport called the tuk-tuk taxis, 3 wheeler vehicles, able to seat 8 people + the driver, the guy that was driving the one we were in must of been tunisian grand prix driver, he thought he was driving a formula 1 car, very hair raising, but great fun, try and visit port El-Kantoui if you can,
I WOULD DEFINATELY GO AGAIN

Submitted By: Mr CS StirkI would advise you to eat out as it so cheap and the food in the hotel is the same thing everyday although it is very nice you soon get fed up with it. We ate out not realising how cheap it was going to be. You can feed the whole family for around 6 or 7 pounds and it is very nice and filling.
The pool area is very clean as it is cleaned every day. The beach is very nice and the hotel has beach security so you don't get hassled by the local traders.
The bar is not well stocked the only choice is wine, lager, vodka or whisky. The animation team are very friendly and a great laugh to watch, if you ever go watch out for Tigana on the animation team, you will soon know what I mean.
The locals are very friendly with english people and are glad to see you there and they don't like the germans and will share a joke about them with you. If you go into the market at first it seems a bit scary because there are small smelly alleyways but but the locals help you if your lost and protect you. Barter for everything I bought a football shirt he wanted 100dina I got it for 10!
Overall a great place to go and would definitely go again.

Submitted By: Miss S RobynThe pool was freezing cold (you'd think they would warm it up for the colder days, but no), so hardly anyone was brave enough to go for a swim, the entertainment people were not that good. We got quite bored in the evenings.
The hotel was packed with Germans, only met one English family, and the bar didn't have wide choice of drinks.
That said, it's Tunisia...so you can't really expect an awful lot. So much for a 4 star hotel!

If you don't include the most ignorant, uninterested, sourfaced receptionist it has ever been my misfortune to clap eyes on, the staff were very friendly, polite and helpfull
Never in a million years a 4* hotel. 2* at a push.
Would I go back to this hotel ------ Absolutely not.
Advice: There are better places near by
Activities: Camel safari
Good for: Beach
