Melia El Mouradi Mahdia Hotel Reviews
" The hotel might be a bit worn to... "
Submitted By: Mr M V MortensenWe found the food both to be of a very good variety and quality with both locally inspired dishes and more well known european cuisine. Food and drinks are available throughout the day - outside the opening hours for the main restaurant, the pool bar serves fab pizza's and grilled fish and chicken as well as a good salad bar in the afternoon, so we all gained a few extra pounds that week!
A nice feature is that there is no road between the hotel and the beach - you just walk onto the beach from the swimming pool area.
Having been on several other holiday's in the mediterranean we found this place to be particulary nice and very good value for money - we would definitely go back to this hotel again.

Submitted By: Mrs S L BroadleyThe food was varied, though a little unusual at times but overall the holiday was excellent, and we are hoping to go back for another week at the end of the year.

Submitted By: Mrs S DarkenThe selection of dishes at meal times was huge and we always found something to satisfy us both. The staff are friendly and try very hard to speak and understand English.
The hotel is located on the beach with free sun beds and cushions. There is a free bus laid on by the hotel into Mahdia. Do some research before you go (I can recommend Rough Guide to Tunisia) as there's more to Mahdia and surrounding area than the Friday Market. We went on the train to Sousse independently and the hotel arranged transport with driver for a day in Sfax to a World Heritage site to see the flamingo's. We did the over night tour of the salt lake and Sahara Desert/Oasis. Well worth the money and the experience.
This was a very relaxing holiday which we really enjoyed. I don't think there's much there for youngsters looking for the night life as this is definitely not a lively resort. Overall a good holiday and we will be going back to Tunisia again!

Submitted By: Mrs G RobertshawWe were unfortunate and was on the top floor and half the time we was there the lift was broken and also if you are lucky and get a room at the back of the hotel the dam donkey in the next door hotel goes of with the noise they make 3-4 times in the early hours of the morning!
I would say our room was spacious and our sheets got changed every day. The staff seemed friendly enough, but when we got there we noted that there weren’t many English people there.
I think out of all the inclusive places we have been that was one of the worst we have had with regards to the food.
" I agree with Mr Langman this hotel... "
Submitted By: Mrs D HowsonThe fridge was supposed to be a mini bar "get drunk on two bottles of water." The food was aimed at Germans, Italians and other Europeans; even the salad was draped in salami. I am a vegetarian so this was ruined I asked for some food without sauce and meat and they looked at me as if I had two heads.
I don't know whether anyone reading this was there when it rained in, but the rep told us that we should expect this!! I suppose if you slipped on the stairs where it rained in you might be able to claim on the insurance?
Description states 4 restaurants we saw 1 you had to book and the other buffet style that I had to be first in before the grotts used the same spoon for the meat as well as the veg.
Oh before I forget take a towel with you at all times because having used the toilets you have to wipe your hands on TOILET PAPER!! This was supposed to be my Honeymoon. The only thing I can say is 10/10 for the sunshine and the thunder and lightening storm (of which I am usually scared)

Submitted By: itfxI am not going to give you chapter and verse, but we had two rooms both enormous and clean, the maid was excellent. The reception staff I found to be very friendly and helpful during our two week stay all are needs and wants were catered to with a smile.
The bar service around the pool was exceptional and so was the service at lunch in the grill. The beach was perfect and clean. The pool was excellent very clean and large the animation during the day was enough and not too pushy.
The down side, evening entertainment was awful but still made you laugh at being so bad, karaoke was excellent both weeks.
The restaurant service was terrible, for a 5 star you would expect better service than was given, but we found that stick to one waiter/table and a nice tip and it will improve.
Oh and the al a carte restaurant is no such thing, you book in advance which of the three main course you want which is the usual fish, chicken or beef. Then sit for ages waiting to be served with everyone else, it’s a gala dinner.
The restaurant food was varied and good, loved the omelettes at breakfast, and the salads were great, there was always something different to try, even for me on a no carb diet.
Overall we had a great time we met some really nice people of all nationalities, and were definitely made to feel very welcome.
I would say just one more thing in Tunisia they will treat you how you treat them. A smile and a friendly greeting goes a long way.
" Doesn’t deserve any stars at all!... "
Submitted By: Mr G LangmanBoring entertainment in the evenings, very repetitive. Lots of rude German tourists
Dirty carpets in room which I wouldn’t ask my dog to lay on. Mouldy fridge in room
Balcony doors won’t lock. Nowhere to hang clothes as wardrobes smell.
The staff on reception were rude. The only good thing about this so called hotel is the lifeguard who gives you cushions for your sun loungers

Submitted By: Mrs P SimmondsThe families that were there with their kids had a great time as well, staff very friendly and helpful, a fantastic swimming pool. A beautiful sandy beach, the sea water is even war.
The hotel also runs a bus to the main town, which has its market on a Friday, that is a place you won't believe until you see it, you must go.
I am looking at going back in a couple of years with my family.

Submitted By: Mr T JonesWe paid 499 each and put a lot of blind faith into what the young man told us but you couldn't have asked for a better.
Good, friendly staff... great food, beach, facilities and close to the centre of Mahdia.
I've never been to Tunisia before but this was a delight. All that about watching where you go and what you book is rubbish. A delight, book now!
" A great hotel. Our room was lovely,... "
Submitted By: Ms E EmmettThe staff were all helpful, welcoming and pleasant and most could speak English (along with French, German, and Italian - the El Mouradi is very much an international hotel).
We went over Christmas and yes, it was quiet but as we wanted the opportunity to relax this was fine for us. If you prefer hotels that offer a full and lively entertainment programme then the El Mouradi is not for you and neither is the resort of Mahdia.
The beach is stunning and while the resort of Mahdia could really do with some TLC, the hotel and the hotel grounds were immaculate and well looked after. Located not far from trains and buses, the El Mouradi makes a good base for exploring.
We stayed all inclusive and compared to a previous holiday, what they offer here is exceptional. Food and drink (good variety and the red wine was surprisingly tasty!) were widely available until 2am and we made use of the tennis courts and inside pool.
All in all a great hotel.

Submitted By: Mrs J ButlerAccommodation was clean, comfortable and friendly. The rooms are roomy with TV, safe deposit box, fridge, bathroom and separate toilet and are cleaned every day. Towels for swimming are provided (just ask at reception).
Mahdia is very much a non-English resort and is very popular with the Germans, French and Polish - in fact during our week in the hotel there were probably only about a dozen English staying.
The staff in the hotel are multi lingual speaking Arabic, German, French and limited English but are all so friendly, helpful and eager to try out their English.
The food was great, all buffet style help yourself, but with such a vast menu to try out - beware of what looks like green peppers in the salads but are in fact a chili of some sort. Afternoon tea is served from 4.00 pm - try the mint tea it is fantastic - cakes are also very tasty. Bottled water is provided in your room, 1 bottle per person per day.
The hotel is right on the sea front with a great sandy beach stretching for miles, with water sports at many points.
The town of Mahdia is approx 7 kilometers away, you can either use the free shuttle bus from the hotel, or try a Tunisian taxi (not for the faint hearted) or the Noddy Train which was great fun and cost only 2 dinar per person (£1) or if you fancy a slow walk it should take you about 1 hour 30 mins. A market is held every Friday morning, be prepared for a lot of pushing and shoving as there are hundreds of stalls and many more people. Try your hand a haggling to get a great bargain.
A visit to El Djem is a must, this is a Roman amphitheatre which held gladiatorial battles and a trip is approx 40 dinar - well worth the money.
All in all it was a great holiday, one of the most relaxing that we have had in years.
The airport at Monastir is very modern - but you will need Euros if you want to buy anything in duty free and don't forget that you can't bring the Tunisian Dinar out of the country. You really only need to change small amounts of Sterling into the Dinar at any one time - as everything is free in the hotel - and this can be done at the bank in the hotel.

Submitted By: Mrs J MossThe Food for breakfast and lunch was OK but the evening meal was nearly always the same choices and they were not good. The bar staff were a pain but I could understand because they never had enough glasses and most customers objected to beer being served in a wine glass!! The measures were really bad, one night I watched a German bloke being served whiskey in a shot glass which they put an ice cube in to top it up!!
The entertainment in the evening was amateur and immature and a waste of time.
The hotel was on a dual carriageway and there was nowhere to walk to and nothing to see. The town of Mahdia was not in the least ready for the tourist trade but I must say it was cheap. I spent loads of time in the Turkish bath and spa just for something to do which I must say were quite good and very cheap.
The excursions consisted of 2, 3, or 4 day trips into the desert which was no good to me. A day trip or two would have been better, the only one they did was not encouraged by our rep.
The mini bar only had water in it but I must say they did top up each day. The place was clean and most things worked. Sorry but I will not go back again even as a free gift.

The beach was fantastic.
And the smell.. Dear Mr G. Langman what did you expect? Tunisia has a humidity of 80%, the hotel couldn't do nothing about it. After all you should get some information about the place you are going to vacations. And about weather of course. People like him make this hotel bad with facts which have no point. (Sorry for my english, im from slovenia)
This was a cheap holiday and we got everything we needed!
Enjoy!
