The Oberoi Hotel & Resort reviews

1 / 10
Aug 2010, Jamie M (UK)

On a rececent holiday to Mauritius, we decided to do a day visit the Oberoi. We were very keen to look at the hotel's facilities and to also enjoy a cup of coffee (whilst being there). Our intention was to book a holiday to the Oberoi resort but thought it best to first... more

Wedded bliss started here.
We found the Oberoi last year on a trip to Mauritius to find a hotel to get married at and instantly loved it. It is quiet and very well presented. The staff are lovely and friendly. There are a number of accomodation options at the Oberoi - if you book a wedding or honeymoon option you are eligible for an upgrade which we got - everything seems perfectly timed so although we booked a private villa with a garden we got a private villa with a pool which is absolutely amazine - total privacy, the room is spacious and ammenities are... more
Beautiful but now value for money
The Good - beautiful beach - very friendly non-intrusive staff - room service food (eg steak) was excellent - breakfast was fantastic (3 courses - eg fruit, bacon & eggs and finished off with banana pancakes) - our room was beautiful (2nd band from the top) - abundance of beach activities The Bad - during the complimentary meal we were offered 2 x glasses of champagne that turned out to be €16 each. We are not sure if it was intentional but it came across as deceitful - isolated - although... more
Beautiful hotel
The Oberoi is everything you expect of a top quality luxury hotel - beautiful grounds, professional service, great swimming pools, spa, fitness, watersport facilities, good ambiance and great food. The accommodation (we stayed in a deluxe room) is fine but not exceptional, but those who stayed in the villas (next grade up) raved about them. It's also got a lovely calm atmosphere; you won't find the usual after-dinner shows, loud bars or 'exercise-to-music' sessions in the pool. Small gripes were that you had to pay quite a bit... more
Dreams becoming reality
Having been to the Banyan Tree (Maldives) last year my wife and I wanted to see if we could have an even better holiday this summer. The Banyan Tree was fantastic and the Oberoi has to be on the same par. Full thanks go to all the staff especially the manager Dhiren who was there to welcome us on arrival and had even arranged for us to have an upgrade to a deluxe villa with private gardens and pool. The room was magnificent and the bathroom out of this world. As with all the other reviews we do agree that the restaurant was... more
Fantastic
Honeymooned here in Sept 2006. i will say that i was slightly apprehensive at first-- a few reviews written last year had some negative comments including talk of money lost from the rooms. very strange since we experienced nothing of the sort. instead, we were treated to pretty much a flawless experience, and its hard to believe that those sorts of things could happen. we had a beautiful spacious pavilion with ocean view (upgraded), fantastic marble bath and shower, and very comfortable bed. if i must snipe i would say the TV needs... more
Oberoi info
Lucky enough to win 7 days from 7th Oct at the classy Oberoi Mauritius. Very select and relaxing place with excellent service from the staff. Accomodation was faultless with rooms serviced twice per day if you wish. Definately a place for the wealthy as the restaurant to us was very expensive-starter from £15 & main courses from £30, wine from £30 bottle. Gin & Tonic £7. The place is great to chill out as no entertainment as such - bar was generally closed by 10-30pm & nearest town 15-20 mins away. Found a great txi firm... more
Building works started next door
We have just come back from a 2 week stay at Oberoi. We had a great time, the hotel and staff were brilliant. As previous reviewers have said, the restaurant is very pricey but great food. We found the drinks to be over priced as well even comparing to other 5* Hotels. 2 Days before we were due to leave, Building Works started next door. The noise started at 7.30 am and went on until about 4.30pm. You could hear the noise even on the beach. There was nothing the hotel could do but I... more
Fantastic hotel - faultless holiday
My boyfriend and I have returned from a couple of weeks at the Oberoi that can only be described as faultless. From start to finish, the attention to detail at the hotel, the levels of service and the standards of facilities and staff were perfect. The hotel is very cleverly designed to give a feeling of privacy and peace and quiet. Even towards the end of our stay, when the hotel was at nearly full capacity, it still feels like a hide away where you are more likely to see a member of staff than another guest. The rooms have... more
Perfect honeymoon!
We stayed in the Oberoi for 10 days in July and I can only assure you it was the perfect honeymoon hotel... extraordinary hotel and settings, perfect relaxing atmosphere, gourmet first class restaurant, excellent non-intrusive service, soothing spa... ... we stayed in a villa with swimming pool and enjoyed every bit of our stay there. Is it wasn't so far, we would definitely return… but there’s a lot of world to explore out there!
Honeymoon heaven!
My husband and i stayed at The Oberoi for 3 weeks during July this year, we were there for our honeymoon. We loved the Oberoi, it is pure heaven! I do not understand people who are saying about the food and staff as all the staff are amazing, friendly and helpful and the food is great (although expensive). We ate mostly at the restaurant by the pool and the food there was fantastic, we loved the pasta dishes, and also the fish, and the salads were great. We ate in the main retaurant only twice, as we found the portions of food too small... more
