Sugar Beach Resort

Stayed at this hotel for 12 nights. We had reasonably high expectations before going, having read reviews and seen the website of the hotel. Our expectations were exceeded. Right from check in you are made to feel special and welcome. Check in involves being taken to a balcony area and met by several members of the hotel management team, who are very visible throughout your stay should you wish to question anything (we had no need to do this). Sugar Beach is an excellent hotel. The property is located along the west coast along side some other hotels like Taj, Hilton, etc., out of which Sugar Beach is clearly best in my views. The food was nice. The staff was really helpful. The hotel made our stay as comfortable as possible in every way. The hotel has a lovely beach. We have just returned from the Sugar Beach Resort and have a lovely time - definately recommend it, we stayed in a superior south beach villa. The north villas are a little closer to the main area and pool but there is another "serious" pool" in the south area. The staff all very freindly and helpful. Plenty of sun loungers for everyone in all areas. The hotel had just re opened in August after extensive re-furbishment. If you are looking for a perfect holiday in Mauritius then this is the ideal place to go. Before my holiday I checked out the reviews of many hotels in Mauritius on this site and Sugar Beach sounded perfect. I can honestly say this hotel exceeded my expectations. I cannot fault the hotel in anyway. Its recent renovation has made it more like a 7* hotel this review cannot do it justice. We stayed 2 weeks at Sugar Beach in late Sept/early Oct 2007 and had the most relaxing family holiday ever. We enjoyed it so much that we are booked in again this year. There is plenty to explore around the island and we did a few things but we were just as content to spend our days at the resort lazing around the pool or on the beach reading books, kayaking, snorkelling, playing croquet and petanque etc. There is so much you can do at the resort that you could be busy every day, all day if you wanted. While we stayed at La Pirogue - our two children-aged 18 and 21 stayed at the property next door- Sugar Beach. It was wonderful to be able to try out both hotels as they belong to one company. The young ones definately preferred Sugar Beach- especially as the rooms had been renovated and were modern and light. We were very impressed with the room decor but at the time that we were there, the public areas had not been changed and were definately in need of some improvements. My wife and I went to the Sugar Beach for our 25th Wedding Anniversary with our children. The flight with British Airways was fantastic. The hotel room, guest service and activities you could not ask for better. The hotel laid on a anniversary dinner on the beach with personal waiter and the room was decorated upon our return with rose patels and champaign and swans made out f towels. The children also had an amazing time. We had a fantastic anniversary holiday and will be going back. We can not rate this hotel high... more

Stayed Oct/Nov 07, 2nd visit to this hotel and not disappointed, as this was the first time we have ever returned to the same hotel, had a great time. Flight with Air Mauritius – ok flight out, although with the new/revised seating layout the seating had less leg room than last time even though bizarrely we had exactly the same seat as our last trip. We were celebrating our 10th Wedding anniversary and as we got married in Mauritius we wanted to return. We felt special on arrival and were welcomed by the Manager (he welcomed each guest personally). We chose this hotel because of the childrens facilites as we wanted our 5 year old son to have fun - unfortunately there were very few children there so we couldn't make much use of the kids club although the staff were great!
