Learmonth Hotel

My wife via a travel agent booked tickets for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang along with an overnight stay, When the paperwork arrived we discovered it was the Learmonth Hotel, i went onto their web site and all looked good for a cracking weekend. We were a a bit concerned about this hotel after reading some of the reviews, but when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. This hotel may not be the ritz, but it was clean, staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The room we were allocated was 'HUGE' and the bed was really comfortable. The decor in the room was nice, and it suited us perfectly. The en-suite could have done with a little tlc (mildew on tile grout and around the bath), but again it was very clean. Stayed at the Learmonth Hotel for 2 nights. The outside of the hotel looks good but we weren't overly impressed with the rooms. Luckily we had a room with a double and single bed in so it was a nice size, but the bathroom was dirty (the bath hadn't been cleaned), there was damp patch on the ceiling and the wallpaper was peeling off the walls. Booked a room for New Years through the tourist board who I have to say are fantastic! However, I cannot say this about the hotel, it's awful. I think we were given the last room in the hotel which is probably used when no other rooms are available! I opened the bathroom door and was greated with the stench of damp. Booked two rooms for 3 nights for myself and husband and another couple to stay over New Year. Location is great as it is only 10 min walk to town centre. HOWEVER, the hotel is awful. The bathrooms were filthy, the air vent had so much dust on it that you could have knitted a sweater with it. The bath hole was matted up with dried hair which I had to pick out with toilet paper, then when you filled the bath up the bath water was yellow. The rooms were swealtering hot. This hotel was functional and the room was clean. It is within walking distance (10 mins) to Princes Street however there is a frequent bus service outside the door. I thought it was good value for the City Centre Edinburgh.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay in the Learmonth Hotel in Edinburgh. I have to say after reading some of the reviews I was a little bit concerned about my booking but I was pleasantly suprised. I had contacted the hotel prior to arriving and booked the courtesy shuttle bus from the train station and the driver was there when we arrived and offered us some good advice about what to see during our stay. I spent one night here and found that there was no restaurant just a noisy dingy bar where my request for food was just a bar meal of no particular quality. the single room was clean but the shower did not work. The next morning the self-service breakfast was cold and unappetising.

Having read the previous reviews on this hotel I felt I had to write my own. Stayed for two nights (Sat & Sun) in this hotel. Our first room was cramped, hot and had constant noise coming from an industrial extractor fan just below the window. I suppose someone has to be beside the lift but the constant beep of the lift arriving and departing was annoying right outside our room door.
