Jurys Inn Edinburgh Hotel Reviews
Jan 2006, Ms E GARNETT
Cruised the Caribbean, visited Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore & Gambia during 2005. However a weekend break in Edinburgh was an absolute delight & the icing on the cake. It’s 30 years since I’d been `north of the border` What a beautiful cosmopolitan city. Bustling... more

Don't even think about it
from Paul&Alison
Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for three nights in june 2006 and I can safely say will never be back. We thought Jurys had a good name but we couldn't have been more wrong. Firstly our room was like a shoe box with a small double bed which you had to climb over to get in at one side. The decor was dated to say the least and there wasn't even a wardrobe in the room, just a chrome bar bolted to the wall. To add to this the room had the strongest smeel of damp i've ever experienced, presumably because the bathroom door did not close properly. We had to wash our clothes several times when we got home just to get the smell out. The bathroom fittings where hanging off the walls in most cases and several tiles could be lifted off the floor in pieces. The staff at the hotel weren't exactly helpful either. I wouldn't complain if i was staying in a budget hotel but when you've paid good money you expect a lot more than this. The only positive about this place, and its a strain to think of any, is it's location but there are plenty of other much nicer and similarly priced hotels with an equally good location.
Too hot, Too noisy, Too expensive!!
from stevomoto
I stayed at Jury's Inn on Saturday 5th August 2006. The hotel was not my choice but that of another couple who my partner and I were travelling with. When I found out the name of the hotel that had been booked (this was our first trip to Edinburgh) I referred to Tripadvisor as I normally do to check out the user reviews. I was a bit concerned considering the the poor ratings given by other guests and the complaints about noise, temperature etc. We arrived about midday on a Saturday and were advised that the room wouldn't be available until 2pm They offered to store our luggage (just a rucksack or two as we were only staying for one night) which enabled us to wander around the town centre for a couple of hours without the inconvenience of baggage. We returned mid-afternoon and collected our keycards and made our way upto our rooms. The first issue I noted was how hot the hotel was. It wasn't a particularly hot day, perhaps 20C, but the hotel was stifling. I was suprised by the fact that the hotel is not air conditioned at all. I thought that this was remarkable considering we paid £167 for a double room for one night, and this didn't even include breakfast! I must add that we were in Edinburgh to see the Tattoo (which was excellent-book before you go as all tickets were sold out) which meant that all the hotels were charging a premium on there normal prices. As a result of the noise / temperature, neither my partner nor I slept particualrly well. We were woken by the traffic noise, the sound of what seemed like the moving of furniture on the floor above which we later discovered was the sound of the lift, and then we were woken again with a knock on the door at 9am (on a Sunday morn) followed by the words 'Housekeeping'. Great!! We stayed in room 215, the decor was pretty dated and it over looked a busy road & railway station. The heat from the hotel meant the windows needed to be open, but the noise meant they had to be shut....the dilema lasted all night! There was a piece of skirting board missing in the room, which exposed pipework running to the bathroom. The bedside table had been repaired in a DIY SOS fashion. Not something I would have expected to see in a hotel of this price range. The only small benefit of staying in this hotel is the location. It is about 2 mins walk from The Royal Mile. However, there are a couple of other hotels located in equally ideal locations, with a Travelodge around the corner and the Radisson on The Royal Mile. Even if these were fully booked I'd rather walk an extra 15 mins or so if it meant I could stay in a better quality hotel and get a good nights sleep. In summary this hotel is too hot, too noisy and way too expensive. I have stayed in far superior Travelodge rooms for less than a third of the price. Stay somewhere else!
Noisy, hot and slow
from MarkH1973
We arrived at the hotel at 1.30pm, a little before the 2pm check in time. After queuing for what seemed like hours, we were checked in by a very friendly member of staff, who said that a room would be available around 2pm. We waited until 2.30pm, queued again, only to find out that it would be another hour before the room was ready. We came back at 5.30pm, and our room was available. There were no towels in the room, and the room was very hot, although this was to be expected as it is the middle of summer. Later in the evening, we had the choice of leaving the window open and putting up with the loud noise outside, or closing it and boiling in the room. The curtains seemed to let plenty of light into the room too. When having a drink in the bar, we had to again wait for some staff to turn up to serve us. This was in the middle of the afternoon when you would expect there to be people in the bar. The bar area seemed to be occupied until after 4am - even though the bar had stopped serving alcohol - which meant that the noise was not just from outside the hotel, it was noisy inside the building. I didn't sleep due to the mix of the noise and the heat. Next morning, one lift was broken, and eventually we got downstairs for breakfast. At checkout, we again had a lengthy queue. Overall, the staff were friendly and helpful, but the service was very slow, and the hotel was just not at the level I would expect it to be. It is, however, very well located in the centre of Edinburgh.
Horrible Jurys Edinburgh Inn
from CT5097
I was so disappointed in this hotel. There were kids at the pub, screaming and yelling as late as 6 in the morning, people standing outside the hotel singing and yelling so loudly that I couldn't sleep. And the hotel management did not intervene on our behalf. In addition, the smell was horrible. I believe it might be the chemicals used to clean the linens. I became sick and missed the entire day. In 40 years of traveling, I have never been sick enough to miss a day. Don't stay here- you'll wish you were somewhere else.
Excellent location!

This hotel has one major advantage, LOCATION! Its perfect for walking distance to pretty much everything. Located just off the Royal Mile. Its a minute walk up the alleyway at the rear of the hotel to the Royal Mile and a further 10 mins stroll to Edinburgh Castle. Also very close to Waverley Train Station and Princes St. The rooms were clean and modern. Breakfast was average. Nothing bad to say about this hotel, its a 3 star hotel with a superb location. I would definitely stay here again as you can walk to everywhere so easily. If travelling from the airport, use the airlink buses which cost £3 single and £5 return, takes about 25 mins, and get off at the last stop at Waverley Station for a short 5min walk to this hotel.
Nice Hotel

Stayed there for a weekend and found the location perfect. Overall the staff were really friendly, even the night porter was extremely nice when i forgot my key card he got me a new one straight away. The room was a standard room and the breakfast did the job. No complaints!!!
Just Horrible....

This hotel is one of the worst I have stayed in. The first thing I noticed when exiting the lift on my floor was the terrible smell. When I entered my room it was even stronger. I didn't know if this was all over the hotel, or just on 3rd floor but it was unbearable. As I had checked in late and night and was very tired, I just went straight to sleep, but woke up early in the morning with a headache due to the overpowering stench which was a horrible mixture of dampness, cooked cabbage and cat's urine. My friend said her room was exactly the same, so there wasn;t any point in asking for a change the next night. When I checked out, all of my belongings were impreganted with the smell! Apart from this, the room's lighting was horrible, and I was awakened in the morning by the noise of laundry trolleys being pushed around the cobbled roads at the back. One of my pet hates in hotels is when the housekeeping knock on the room door early (before 9am) on the day of check out. Check out here is at 12 noon, so I was annoyed at being awoken at 8.45am on my last morning when I wanted to sleep a little later. The room size was ok, with a double and a single bed. No satellite tv channels. No room service, only a vending machine on the 3rd floor with crisps & chocolate bars- but no drinks! I had to leave the hotel to buy water late at night. Location is good, being just around the corner from The Royal Mile, but I dreaded going back to sleep in the disgusting smelly room!

I Stayed here October 2005. This hotel Is a great option for a weekend in Edinburgh. Firstly, its cheap as chips, about £60 a room a night, I had a huge room, lots of space, very clean, the bathroom was a bit dark but all in all I was very happy with it. Secondly the location of this hotel is class! Just go out the back door by the bar and head up the stairs and you are right in the middle of the Royal Mile, its about 15 min walk to the castle, Loads of places to eat and drink close by, its next door to a great sports bar and a great Austrailian bar, Bar in the Hotel was very good also, live music one night too, Food in the Hotel is the same as all jurys, Average, Staff were always great. Very helpful
Enjoyed very much my stay!

I booked 2 nights at the Jurys Inn. One night was at the special low internet rate of £51 and the second night was another room at £60 This review applies to both rooms. 1) Price 5/5 Jurys Inn have a special internet rate of only £51. It took me some time to find out that this rate is available from February 1 to April 30th. I booked my first night at this rate. The second night, when I came back from a round trip was at another room but the rate was £60 . In any case I think that this is terrific value for money. I will probably repeat this a few times along this review but I can´t think of anything else to say about these tariffs. These prices do not include breakfast. 2) Location 5/5 This is the second thing I look after when booking a hotel. And here the Jurys Inn delivers because it is only 5 minutes walk from the Waverley train station (and I arrived by train from London) and it is placed about 15 minutes walk to St Giles Cathedral, Edinbugh Castle, Holyrood Palace, The Royal Café and so on. 3) The Room: a) Cleanless 5/5 This is for me the most important thing and I was happy to see that both rooms I booked were very clean. b) The Bed 5/5 The sheets were clean too, the matress was good and so were the pillows and the blankets. c) Noise level 4/5 This can be a personal matter but I didn´t hear any special loud noice along the night but, as you can see in the pictures and as I said the Jurys is very close to the Waverley Train Station. d) Temperature 5/5 I stayed at the Jurys Inn in mid april and the temperature in my room was perfect e) Size of the room 3/5 I know that size matters for many travellers but to be honest this is not an issue for me. The room wasn´t big but it wasn´t small either: just ok. Please look at my pictures and decide for yourself. f) Everything was in perfect condition! 5/5 4) Bathroom 5/5 Once again: very clean. The water pressure in the shower was just right and there was plenty of light in it. 5) Staff: 5/5 I was already helped by a staff member who personally confirmed my reservation long before I travelled to Scotland. At the hotel the staff was polite and seemed helpful in spite that I really didn´t need any help while I stayed there. Both check in and out happenned very quickly. All in all: as you probably guessed, I like this hotel very much. In muy humble opinion you have to be in a very, very bad mood to find serious faults with this hotel. And, for the last time: at 51£ or even 60£ you are getting a very, very good hotel for that money. Highly recommended!
