central location
i took my teenage son to edinburgh and decided to use this travelodge due to location which was perfect, our room was sooo big could have fit another double bed in ,but they hadnt .the room contained 1 double bed and 1 desk .the staff were helpful enough when i asked for a fan one was found immediately.was very concerned that ALL the windows in our room had been jammed shut by the company and a secondary plastic glazing thing had been added to all windows with a tiny little vent about 3 inches long , was told it was to stop people trying to... more
cheap, central but not worth it
Boiling hot room, in fact the whole place felt like a furnace - the corridors, the lifts etc. Within minutes the discomfort was unbearable. Had we not been going straight out for the whole night and leaving early the next morning we would have checked into another hotel. As sson as you have a shower you need another one. We were also told we couldn't leave our luggage (we arrived early) and in quite unfriendly terms. There was a different staff member on the desk when we went back later to check in however, and he was much more friendly.<br... more
perfect location, tiny room!
If you're getting in to Waverly station you can't do better than this location. It's just 5 minute walk from the station, and is on a pedestrianised street lined wtih bars and restuarants. Despite that didn't get much noise in the rooms. The only downside was the size of the room itself, which was pretty tiny, but it was clean and had everything it needed, except you do have to request a haidryer at reception and don't expect any toilettries.
Heat and noise outweighs central location
There are three things that this hotel has going for it - 1) central location, 2) cheap price, 3) large (but basic) rooms. But I wouldn't stay here again. I was told by the receptionist when I checked in that the reason the hotel was so hot is that it's sandwiched between two restaurants, and she wasn't kidding. My room was like a sauna. Unfortunately when you open your window to let some air in, you then get all the noise from drunk revellers on Rose Street (where every other building seems to be a pub). And I was there midweek, it is... more
hot hot hot
We stayed on a saturday night for 1 night on 5th june, there were 6 of us and we had 3 rooms on the 4th floor. The hotel was like a green house on all the floors and especially in the rooms, and several people had complained it was totally unbearable. The room was very large, which was nice, but lacked a mirror over the desk and chair which was strange, the bathroom was ok but the water out of the shower and tap was very weak and make for washing and rinsing very hard plus the water was yellow urgh. The hotel was centrally... more
Central is the key word !!
This Travelodge is brand new and is situated on Rose Street, right in the middle !! Anyone that knows Edinburgh will know that the street is famous for having a lot of pubs .The hotel front is clearly marked and has a good security system all day long. Rooms are clean , typical travelodge, well insulated from the inevitable noise, dont expect any views,,,at all !! No on site parking access at all. Its in a pedestrian area, parking will be expensive at the nearby ncp. We were staying for the weekend and have paid a lot more for close by... more
Clean and well located but very basic
Hotel is well situated for all requirements, shopping, drinking, eating and local attractions. Rooms are basic but clean and spacious although the bathroom was cramped in comparison. Don`t use your car if possible. Although you can park in the street a hundred or so metres from the hotel it is very expensive as was the nearest NCP multi storey car park about 15 mins walk away.
Poor customer service
Please note that this hotel has no provision for luggage and they charge £10 to take a room before 3 pm even if it is ready for occupation. I waited 2 weeks for a reply to my complaint - and then received a very poor response, they didn't seem to be interested.
Good value for money
Stayed here in April 2010, not long after the hotel opened with a friend. The location is extremely central, and great if you are travelling by train. The street itself is a lane which runs behind Princes Street, which has a fair bit of character, though it is rather dark at night. The room was great, and seemed very spacious due to the traditional high ceilings and large windows found in old properties. It was very clean, the bathroom was a good size, shower powerful, bed comfortable, plasma with freeview channels, tea and coffee facilities... more
Perfect location, decent price
stayed for night. Rooms were big enough. Both bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and tidy. Receptionist was nice and efficient. We enojyed our stay very much. Perfect area- 5min from Waverley train station and lots of pubs on the treet. Ideal place if you're looking to be left on your own and enjoy Edinburgh.
