Brilliant holiday & evan better wedding!!
from DarceyMartonLeMoor_
We arrived at le tropical as a party of 23 people for our wedding there on 29th march 2008. We were met by great staff who could not do enough for us. When we arrived the island was in the middle of a cyclone which was a little bit worrying but within days the weather was fantastic. The rooms are a little bit basic but who goes on holiday to spend all their time in the room anyway. If you want a totally relaxed holiday then this is the place for you as there is not alot to do in the surrounding area. The boat goes from the boat house 3 times a day & this will take you free of charge over to the other island. Regarding the wedding Benadick was an absolute fabulous wedding planner & whatever you wanted she was able to arrange that for you also the hotel catering manager was able to provide a wedding reception that was outstanding. We had a brilliant time at Le Tropical & would not hesitate to recommed it to fellow travellers. It is probably one of the cheaper hotels on the island but dont let this put you off as the service of the staff is outstanding.
Excellent All Inclusive 3-Star Hotel, Great Value for Money!
from Dusty39
Firstly I would have to disagree with the Durbin reviewer... why would you mention a cemetery behind a 7ft wall when you have a beautiful blue lagoon view from your room! Having spent 2 wonderful weeks at this hotel, I would have to say two things. Firstly, if you want 5-star luxury then you will pay considerably more than you pay Le Tropical Hotel. Secondly, if you want lots of restaurants, bars, and lots of things to do, then go and stay at a 300-bed resort. But, if you want to wake up to the sound of birds singing, the sound of the surf hitting the beach, the view of a beautiful blue lagoon from your balcony, total peace & tranquility, exceptionally friendly and accommodating staff, clean and tidy rooms with air conditioning (linen changed daily), a nice restaurant with a choice of menus, water sports off your beach, and boat trips to other small islands, then Le Tropical is the place to book! I would highly recommend Le Tropical Hotel and given that they belong to one of the largest Mauritian Hotel groups on the island with a further six hotel resorts scattered around the island, I think they definitely know how to look after you on your holiday - with hospitality being at the top of their list!
Fantastic

We had a wonderful holiday on Mauritius at this hotel last week. I cannot believe how anyone would not like this. Perhaps only if you were expecting 5 star quality. The update of the painting etc has definitely been done since that review of January 2006. Also I really did not notice the cemetary and was not bothered by it. The scenery was magnificant, the staff so friendly and there are so many trips you can take on this island. Every single moment was a pleasure. The food is varied, sometimes buffet, or a menu from which you can choose between several meals, or a 5 course dinner. My friend had his birthday there and they presented a birthday cake for him. We will book again and try even to go again this year.
Smokers World
from patian24
This is a nice hotel for smokers but if you are a non smoker it has no none smoking areas except for a small dinning area next to the restaurant , the staff are very friendly and the rooms are kept nice and clean but smelt strongly of cigarette smoke when we arrived ,the hotel rules say trousers are to worn for evening meals but shorts are a regular sight the hotel also suffers from the dreaded towel on sunbed syndrome. The hotel is in a nice area with local restaurants nearby
i didnt like it

this is a small hotel on the eastern side of mauritius close to ille de cerfs. i found the hotel situated in a strange area right next to a large cemetary with a high wall seperating the hotel and cemetary. the rooms are average with large beds, a TV, minibar, and a room safe. i had an upstairs room with a balcony. the staff were very attentive and friendly. i went on a "fully inclusive" package which meant free food and drinks all day, but note that the bar only opens at 11am. the food was tasty and plentiful. Tthe beach at the hotel is very small and covered in seaweed, its not actually possible to lie on the sand which is only about 10 feet wide, you cannot swim or snorkel in front of the hotel there are signs warning you where you cannot swim or snorkel you would be run over by a boat anyway as there are a lot of boats that park in the shallow bay. if you want to enjoy laying on the beach there are free shuttles to and from ille de cerfs several times a day, i found ille de cerfs very scenic but absolutely crowded with thousands of tourists from reunion and very little space to even spread a beach towel, I did however find a beautiful beach just to the north of the hotel with good snorkeling. The hotel has its own boat house where you can hire snorkel equipment but you may not take the equipment ti ille de cerfs, its just for snorkeling trips which are run from the hotel, (the snorkel trips were cancelled every day because of high winds and rough seas) in general i found mauritius very run down and incredibly expensive and would not waste my money going there again, most of the coral is dead and i saw very little in the way of fish life. for the same amount of money i could have had a week in the maldives or phuket
Excellent service

We stayed at Tropical hotel for 10 days in November 2007. At arrival at the hotel we were greeted by the assistant manager and seated in the lobby area. We were given cold towels and a cool fruit cocktail- nice touch. All the check in formalities were completed promptly and within 15 minutes were being shown to our room well before the alloted check in time. The room was pleasant ,airy and very clean, not huge but perfectly adequate. It had a big balcony with steps down to a grassed area which lead straight to the beach. The bathroom was clean with a great shower, no toiletries but we brought our own anyway. The valet that cleaned our room daily was second to none, we have never had a room cleaned and tidied so beautifully, all clothes left out perfectly folded and put away!!The beach was a little dissapointing as it was small and lots of seaweed but there were clear patches and swimming was ok. A small note as with many places that are near reefs, there is a lot of coral that is washed up and quite sharp. We took aqua shoes that really helped. The best thing about this hotel is the level of service. As it is a small hotel, the staff get to know you and your preferences and nothing is ever to much trouble!!! We particularly enjoyed the food, not a huge choice but always beautifully presented and delicious!!! It is very close to il aux cerfs and the hotel has a free boat trip there 3 times a day, it is perfect for swimming, snorkeling and watersports as well as being very beautiful!! The hotel has some free watersports including laser dinghys, pedaloes and canoes. The boat house staff are more than wiling to instruct at any time. The hotel group have their own island at the south and run a day trip there. You are taken by speed boat around the coast and get the chance to see some of the beautiful scenery. This really is a great trip to a stunning island where you are greeted with a champagne reception, taken to marine park to snorkel, relax on comfy daybeds or sunloungers and given a fabulous bbq lunch. You practically have your own waiter who can't do enough for you!!!! We were there on a quiet day, some days there may be more guests on the island. If you want 5 star luxury then this is not the hotel for you. We personally found that the great service, great food and excellent location made this a very enjoyable stay!!!
Knockout staff

Thisis a good budget hotel with the most attentive staff I have seen from any hotel anywhere in the world. By the end of 2 weeks they are friends and the rest of the islanders go beyond the pail in terms of being helpful to the visitor The hotel is a bit shabby, it does need a bit of money spent on it but you pays yer money you takes yer choice. The food is average, breakfasts good, evening meals a bit disappointing.Sunbeds outside the rooms are good and the trip to the Ile aux Cerfs is worth it as it is free and there are any number of beautiful beaches there. Book a trip to the hotels own island as that is great as dolphins follow you along the coast and it is brilliant. NB we went in August and the east coast has a strong wind for 3 months at that time of year on a daily basis but there are plenty of sheltered locations to keep the wind at bay.
Only okay if you're on a budget

I had really high expectations of our holiday in Mauritius but had we stayed here the whole week as planned, then they would not have been met. By the second day I was starting to wonder how to explain to friends how we had only managed to have an 'okay' time in Paradise. To start on the positive side the food is great and the staff are very friendly. The rooms face the sea which means you can gaze at the beautilful waves and white sand from your bed. However there were some problems that these plus points could not outweigh. The whole place suffers from lack of a recent update. The decor of the rooms is scruffy, the toilet seat was cracked and bent when we sat on it (no we're not overweight!). The bedding included an old brown blanket which may have not been laundered. The pool area was far from idyllic as being quite small there weren't many areas for sitting out and the high walls meant there wasn't much scenery to look at. (As the beach was too windy the week we were there, this area of the hotel was quite important to us.) The refurbishment was required even down to the leather wallets that your dinner receipt came in - I don't know about you but I don't really appreciate the inside of them being covered in biro graffiti with things like "Jo from Morpeth was here"! Also location wise, we were quite dependent on the bar here as we didn't find anything else locally which meant we had to listen to the groups of other holiday makers singing along with the guitar entertainers in broken English to the Beatles - not really a Mauritian experience! Thankfully our rep took pity and we were moved to another hotel on our 2nd day. If you really want to go to Mauritius but don't want to spend much then here is fine, but if you can afford a bit more then go elsewhere.
Small and Friendly
from Brieye
Very friendly, small hotel, staff as good as, if not better than many 5 star hotel staff. All inclusive package, good value. Rooms, average size, ground floor rooms have large patio area, and almost private lawned area. Beds extremely large - easy to loose your partner !. Food a little strange - a mix of nouveau cuisine and something else !, however very plentiful, and well cooked (No "tummy" problems). Beach almost non existant, but large lawned area in front of rooms, facing sea. Free boat trips to an island, 20 minutes, with superb beach. Evening entertainment every evening, and plenty of seating. Towels and sunbeds provided, and plentiful, so no squabbles, and no need to get up early to get them! Private transfer to airport recommended.
Quiet and Isolated
from Globalbum
Just got back with my wife from 2 weeks in Mauritius staying at the Tropical Hotel upon arrival it is immediately noticable how small the Hotel is. Being only 60 rooms in size the Hotel is friendly and very easy to make new friends , unlike the hustle and bustle of bigger hotels where you very rarely see the same face twice. The rooms are clean and comfortable with a double bed that could comfortably fit 5 people, all rooms face the sea and come with there own small patio. The beach is less than 20 metres from your door but don't get excited it is tiny and constanly covered in seaweed but sun loungers are abundant on the grassed areas. The Tropical staff are excellent and make every effort to make your stay enjoyable . We opted for the all inclusive package as the Hotel is quite isolated there is very little or no choice to sample pleasures outside the hotel for eg: Restaurants the village close by offers minimal choice. The Hotel food is average with the main evening being dissapointing on a number of occasions, on my return i found i had lost weight. Mauritius is seen as a dream destination by most travellers, overall the island is identical to most Carribean islands the people are friendly but suffers from the rip off culture taking the opinion that if your there you must be wealthy. There are far better islands to visit in the world which are prettier and less expensive and better quality Koh Samui for instance. All said and done the Tropical was quiet and friendly and i met some fabulous people but i won't be returning

the first response was one of welcoming, we were brought fresh warm towels and a drink to freshen us up on arrival. we had just flown 11 hours so this was a great start. the hotel staff were so very friendly and our every requirement was taken care of. the room was of... more
