the first response was one of welcoming, we were brought fresh warm towels and a drink to freshen us up on arrival. we had just flown 11 hours so this was a great start. the hotel staff were so very friendly and our every requirement was taken care of. the room was of adequate size with free air conditioning and free minibar filled up without fail every day. the bathroom consisted of a shower with two bath towels one hand towel and a towel mat which were changed for fresh ever day plus there were two dark blue towels for use on the pool or the beach.the beach was not the most appealing part of the complex and green seaweed was washed up every day. but this was also removed before breakfast so if you had a lay in you never saw any of it. some reviews talk of rocks on the beach, yes there are volcanic outcrops as the island has in its history been very explosive, a beach 10 mins walk away slopes gently into the turquoise seas with a reef offshore keeping the swells away, a word of caution tale some kind of sea footwear as coral washed up on the beach can be uncomfortable to walk on plus the odd purple sea anemone. the hotel is secluded and a walk of twenty mins to the local village only gives local shops so if you like to go away and find woolies on yor door step then forget it, on the plus side a local bus will take you to town of flaqc for approx 23 rupees 45p each way and here some bigger department stores await, if you want to go to the capital port louis catch a bus for 25 rupees 50p and you have the very mixed cultural capital at your feet, the buses are a great experience and the drivers and conductors are very friendly. back at the hotel the dinners were varied and always tasty with different themed evenings, you were served some nights and others were a buffet style, lunch was always the same sanwiches and chips or a fish dish with desert to follow. breakfast was fresh cooked eggs either fried or omellete. some reviews talk of the graveyard at the side of the hotel, yes there is a graveyard but unless you want to stare over into to it yo would only ever know it was there if you had a top floor room and even then you only glanced it as you came out to come down stairs, anyone on the bottom floor cannot see due to a very high volcanic stone wall, plus ALL balconies face the sea so the notion of there being a cemetary at the side of you was very quickly forgot. the other grumble we have heard is the fact its windy all the time, these are the trade winds which blow constantly and keep the whole area cooler, once you get out of the breeze you suddenly feel the intense heat and welcome the breeze back. overall a wonderfull hotel fantastic people working there and would recommend anyone to go, we have travelled the world and find the indian ocean area more appealing due to the natural nature not false tourist setup, this hotel does not pretend to be a home from home but a very clean comfortable friendly safe place to sleep and eat. please go with an open mind and dont read all the reviews it will clog your mind, enjoy your holiday dont be put off by petty little items of culture difference, when in rome do as the romans do
enjoy x

We booked this at the last minute, and after reading some of the reviews I had a minor concern or two, but this proved to be unfounded.
We absolutely LOVED this place. Remembering that this is a 3 star resort, there was nothing 3 star about the service. Rooms were more than adequate, and the dining was a delight. There was plenty of activities to keep us busy and we spent plenty of time just lazing away and soaking up the sun.
If you have an option to go "all inclusive" I would recommend you take it. With all meals, most drinks and plenty of watersports to keep you busy, it was a great holiday. Absolute musts are the trips to Ile le Cerf and Ile le Coco. One word of caution, if you go in August like we did, book your boat trips early cause the weather was not always perfect.
The only real fault I can find was the beach, which was still ok for taking strolls. But no problem, just book a trip to Ile le Cerf and enjoy a SUPER time on a lovely swimming beach. If the beach was better suited for swimming I would have given this review a 10.
The trip to Ile le Coco was the highlight of the trip and NOT TO BE MISSED. I won't say anything more as it is something you must discover for yourself. The snorkelling there was also excellent.
I have very fond memories of our stay at Le Tropical. The staff really go out of their way to make your stay even more enjoyable. This is good value for money and worth following up on. We will return!

We came here for our honeymoon and had a brilliant time. When we arrived, we were met with a cold towel and a cocktail, then shown to our rooms, with the staff delivering our luggage several minuates later. As the staff knew this was our honeymoon, our bed and shower area were decorated with petals, we has champagne in the room as well as a free t shirt and sarong. We also had a special meal cooked just for us.
The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. The staff couldn't do enough for us.
The whole hotel was immaculate, the rooms were basic, but comfortable and clean with the biggest bed I have ever seen. We had doors leading directly down to the beach and a great view of the sea.
The staff at the boathouse were fab, the boats we used to get to ils de cerfs and ils des cocos looked brand new and were always squeaky clean.
We had the most perfect honeymoon and would definitely recommend this hotel.

I cannot believe that anyone has a single positive thing to say about this filthy, grimmey, grotty, flea pit. We were due to spend the last 5 nights of our trip round South Africa, in Mauritius at "Le Tropical", I am gad to say that 17 hours after checking in - we were extatic to be checking out.
When we arrived, the hotel reception didn't look too bad (it was dark though).
We were shown to a table and given a drink. The chairs were sticky, the ashtray was dirty and there was a cringingly bad singer trying his best to "entertain" the guests who all looked really glum. To be fair, the staff were pleasant enough but their uniforms could have done with a good wash.
Our room was not only basic, it looked tatty and tired but even worse, it was unclean.
Condensation was streaming down the glass patio doors and bugs were scurrying accross the floor.
As I looked at our stained bed spread I was horrified to see...... a pubic hair! Immediately I asked for a change of bed linen which noone bothered to do.
The mini bar was pathetic, considering "le Tropical" is an all inclusive hotel.
Oddly enough there was a brand new TV in our room, on which the only thing you could watch was fuzzy Indian channels.
The towels in the shower room were covered in bugs.
The phone by the side of the bed didn't work and the buttons were covered in something crusty.
I just couldnt relax because I didn't want to touch ANYTHING.
The next morning when I saw the beach my heart sank, it, like "Le Topical", was hideously grim.
It was covered in seaweed and and there was litter all over the place. The sand was rough and hurt your feet and there was slimey algae everywhere.
The furniture on our patio was tacky and broken.
We have always enjoyed all inclusive holidays as there is always such a wonderful variety of different dishes cooked to such an excellent standard. That lunch time we were not prepared for what "Le Tropical" had laid on for us .... A man standing behind three pots, one had curry in , one had rice, one had vegetables (which looked and tasted as though they came out of a can) and that was it. The final straw. By that point I would have been happy to go home, but we were moved to the superb, stunning, fantastic "Tamassa" hotel, which could not be faulted.
If anyone has booked or is thinking about going to "le Tropical" I strongly urge you pay extra and upgrade to another hotel.
Virgin should be ashamed of recommending this hotel.

built right in front of a huge graveyard. the hotel has a teeny strip of beach in front of it covered in slippery seawed. the food was ok and the accommodation average. the service was mediocre at best. the boathouse will lend you snorkel equipment but only if you use it on their snorkel trips you may not take it to ille cerfs. there is a huge swimming pool built right in front of the bar/restaurant. also there is no where to swim in front of the resort unless you want to be hit by one of the numerous boats that anchor in front of the place. if you dont want to go snorkelng at ille cerfs then there is a nice beach to the north of the resort about a kilometers walk with a nice bit of coral reef. I was dissapointed with mauuritius in general, not just the hotel. i wont be going back, its a very over rated island

After reading a few reviews before going on our honeymoon to Le Tropical Hotel, we were a little apprehensive. But I have to say all that apprehension was soon taken away within the first hour of arrival! Greeted with a chilled face towel and tropical cocktail, it was a very welcome and personal touch after our 12 hr flight and 50 min transfer.

The rooms are spacious with large beds (which helps when your husband is 6ft 8in tall!) and an impressive sea view! The rooms are cleaned to a high standard and all linen also changed daily. Waking up to the sound of birds singing and the surf of the sea, is absolute heaven! There are ample beach beds by the beach and by the pool areas at all times, so no real need to put a towel on them at 7am! All the staff at the Hotel are friendly and extremely accommodating, and to name just a few who made our honeymoon memorable, Sayed, Danielle & Christof in the Restaurant and Denis in the Bar. The Boat House guys are also great - again nothing too much trouble. Snorkelling trips leave the boat house daily and these tend to stay within the lagoon area but still worth going - and included in all inclusive package! If you like speedboats, speak to Billy (James Bond 007 boat) and book for a half day trip to the Waterfalls (cost around EUR80 per couple) and then for a little snorkelling on the way back - very enjoyable. You cannot go to Mauritius and not venture in their chrystal clear waters - the marine life is great, just watch out for the sea urchins - a little prickly!! Recommend walking in the sea with something on your feet just in case!
We did venture into the village one evening for dinner, just to see what the local restaurants had to offer. Le Four a Chaud Restaurant in Trou d'eau Douce is excellent if you like seafood and steaks and we would highly recommend it. Service was brilliant. A three-course dinner for four people with 3 bottles of Chilean wine and a few drinks, worked out around £30 per head. Giant Gambons (prawns), Fillet Steak and Coconut sorbet was fantastic! Taxis can be expensive if bkd through the Hotel, but if you walk to the end of the drive, then negotiate a fixed rate you will find these slightly cheaper. At present, prices are sometimes in Euros and sometimes in Mauritian Rupees, so it does get confusing in your head when you then try to convert back to Sterling. The mix of currencies is apparently set to change when Mauritius becomes a business tax haven next year and the currency will then switch to the EURO.
The Casela Park is worth a visit if you want to see some of the birds that have become native to Mauritius and the famous Madagascan Giant Tortoises, set in beautiful tropical gardens. The crater is worth a visit for the panoramic views of the island. All in all we had a fantastic time staying at Le Tropical Hotel and would certainly stay again in the not too distant future.

This Hotel is a fantastic Hotel if you smoke. If you are a non smoker go at your peril as there is no non smoking areas except for a small dining area next to the main restaurant.
It also has the dreaded towel on sunbed syndrome and take no notice of the trousers for the evening meal, which it states in its house rules ,as most residents wear shorts, the staff are very friendly and the rooms are kept nice and clean.

From the moment we arrived we felt at home. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they showed us the room we had requested via e mail. As promised it had a wonderful view over the ocean and was set out beautifully. It was decorated in a traditional style and the bed was massive!!! This was no luxury suite but everything was clean and tidy and our valet transformed it each day back into the original state. There was even a plug in mosquito killer (which we never used) and the plugs were UK 3 pin.
We could not get over how quiet it was with only the sounds of the inherent wildlife and waves to disturb you. Even the guests seemed to be respectful of the tranquillity.
Generally the food was fine but if you don't like seafood the choice was limited. Service was excellent and we made friends easily with a number of the waiters and waitresses who could not do enough for you. The restaurant has smoking and non smoking areas but even though few people smoked at the table the non smoking area is smaller and filled up quite quickly at dinner.
Evening entertainment is professional and non intrusive, and there is no loud music around the pool and bar during the day. There was plenty to do on the water (snorkelling, windsurfing, sailing) and of course the 15 minute boat trip to the island. This could be slightly disorganised affair but eventually everyone who went came back!!
This lovely hotel suited us down to the ground but if you want more action go elsewhere. Judging by the number of people we met who keep coming back, they must be doing something right!

Having just returned from Le Tropical we must state this hotel is really quite faultless.
The accommodation is perfectly positioned overlooking the sea. It is a small hotel with 58 rooms yet plenty of space so you don't feel hemmed in.
The only fault I could find would be with the beach you definitely need water shoes as there are LOTS of shells and coral the water is shallow but plenty of fish a snorkellers delight.
If you stay at this hotel you are given the chance to visit their private Coco Island, this should be a must, the island and the service you receive there is splendid.
The staff at Le Tropical are so friendly and welcoming nothing is too much trouble we have even been invited to a member of staffs wedding next year. So many of the clients at this hotel are regular visitors there and have stayed there time and time again, surely that is a good advertisement for the hotel.
All in all a fantastic holiday and we look forward to going back next year.
