Maryculter Country House Hotel

It was very cold when I arrived at this old place so it was nice to get inside and check in and the lady on reception was most helpful. Typical old Scottish hotel but I was slightly concerned when she told me to leave my pass card in the slot in the room so that my heater would stay on because apparently this was a 'green' room and the heater would only be deployed when a guest was in the room. I've just returned from a wedding at the hotel which was really fantasic. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food at the reception was really great, didn't taste mass catered at all, so I can only imagine the food in the restaurant is good too. The buffet breakfast was of a reasonable standard and we all commented on how attentive the service was with regards to clearing tables, bringing tea, etc and it was all done with a smile which you don't always get these days! Beautiful rooms, lovely food and wonderful staff. We got married in the hotel and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We had numerous compliments from guests who had travelled a distance to the hotel, some of whom even brought family back for another weekend break. It was such a fantastic day another family member has just booked their wedding there too! We have also visited the hotel for meals and the standard is always high.

my room was above reception and I could hear voices up into the room from every corner of reception. the front door slammed 3 times each time someone walked in or out of the hotel. rooms were quite bleak. food was average. bar was supposedly open to hotel guests but was full of a special group and I was refused service.

We stayed in this hotel for four nights. We liked the overall helpfulness and friendliness of all the staff. The food is excellent, rooms are clean. We for sure will be back. Dogs are also welcome which is a bonus for us all.
