My husband & I stayed at the Golden Villa's in May 2007.
When we first arrived there we were warmly welcomed by Nikos, whom gave us all the information we may have needed, then showed us to our villa. Thankfully on the first row as the driveway up to all the villa's was quite steep and would have caused me a problem with being asthmatic .
Once shown into our villa, we were very pleasantly surprised. The villa's are very spacious and spotlessly clean (We either got a bargain or it is excellent value for money). The villas are cleaned daily. The towels and bed linen were also changed daily.
The following morning when we went down for breakfast; we were again pleasantly surprised by the amount of food & choice on offer. Later on, we asked the best places to visit and were given a wide choice by Nikos whom was the most hospitable person we have ever had the pleasure to meet.
In the evening, we were introduced to the owner and his wife, Lefterry & Poppy, whom were also very hospitable. We were made to feel as welcome as family and had a fantastic time. We only wish we had made the holiday for two weeks rather than just the one.
We will definately be going back. The sights from the villa are awe inspiring. Absolutely beautiful.
There are things to do in the near by towns for all. We have done nothing but rave about this place since we got back.

We have had 10 holidays to Greece in the last 6 years, we found the Golden Villas to be one of the best places we have stayed.
Yes there is a steep slope, which is great for working of the calories after meal and a few Drinks. The complex is quiet peaceful and relaxing what more could you want. The staff are Excellent!
Nikos is an added bonus nothing is to much trouble for him to do. We recommend Koutouloufari in the evening it's about 30 walk from the villas or a 5 min taxi trip for 7 euros, its restaurants are a lot quieter than Hersonissos, We have booked again for next year, If you don't visit The Golden Villas once in your life it's your loss!

I and my boyfriend have just returned from 2 weeks at Golden Villas. We had a fantastic time. The villas were lovely, we had a shared pool, which was fine as the couple next door were never in so we had it pretty much to ourselves. The view from the balcony was gorgeous! The apartment was cleaned every day and fresh towels were left. The staff were great, especially Nicos, he even drove us to Hersonossis on the day we got there for us to get something to eat, the service was impeccable.
We were not to keen on the hustle and bustle of Hersonossis, so most nights we would go to the neighbouring villages of Koutelafari and piscapiano (this was about 7 euros in taxi). These were lovely quaint villages, with plenty of Tavernas and a few bars, it was just enough for us! We went the last 2 weeks of September, so although things were winding down, it was still quite busy!!!
The only drawback about the villas, were that the villages were not in walking distance (as the roads were a bit dangerous), so had to get taxis of a night, although this was not a problem. I would strongly recommend getting a hire car as these apartments were a bit out of the way. We hired one for 2 weeks and went all round the Island. There are lots to see and do to fill the 2 weeks.
The food in Crete is gorgeous and quite cheap. The food at Golden Villas was very good too, and very cheap. We ate there a couple of nights. The hill to the villas is quite steep so not recommended for people with walking difficulties.
Overall, a wonderful holiday 10/10, would definitely go there again!!!!!

The holiday was brilliant, one of the best we have ever had! The complex was lovely, the staff couldn’t do enough to make you feel welcome. Nikos worked such long hours, we believed him when he told us he had an identical twin!
The villas were lovely too. There were five of us in one villa, which worked quite well, the only problem was that the fifth person had to sleep on a camp bed, which was quite uncomfortable, but the kids didn’t seem to mind too much!
We had our own pool, which was quite small but the kids loved it, we couldn’t get them out of it!
The only drawback from the place is that our villa was on the top level, which was right at the top of a huge hill, which took a big steep driveway to get up, and then about 50 steps! You can ask your taxi driver to drive you up there, but its not definite they will say yes. The view from up there was amazing though.
Eating out was quite expensive, and the food was good, but nothing was excellent, so most night we had a meal in the hotel, which was a lot cheaper, and the food was good too. At the end of the meal Nikos will bring out some fruit and a glass of something for the adults! One night, the drink was on fire and we waited until it went out, and then drank it.
The nearest super market was about a ten minute walk away, which is downhill on the way, but can be a struggle getting back up on the way back. The nearest beaches are near the super market, there are a couple of nice ones. On one beach the man will bring out hot food to you.
The taxi drivers were miserable and over charge you, so if you want a day out, ask Nikos if the place is on the bus route. If not he will call a taxi for you. The buses are like coaches and air conditioned. We recommend going to Aqua Plus, a water park, it was one of our best days out. We also recommend a boat trip.
Thank you Nikos, poppy and all the rest for giving us a wonderful holiday!

We arrived at Golden Villas and were pleasantly surprised by the fantastic appearance and wonderful backdrop of the hillside.
We were warmly greeted by Christina and from day one we felt as though the family could not do enough for us.
We loved the fact that the villas were built in a traditional Greek style and being built into the hill gave us a fabulous view of the sea and the surrounding area.
The villas themselves were spacious, clean and the air conditioning facility was greatly appreciated.
Expecting a small splash pool we were extremely pleased to find that it was quite the opposite and in the scorching heat during the day it was the perfect way to cool off. The patio was also a great use as when it was too hot we could retreat into the cooling shade and lounge on sunbeds.
Breakfast at the villas was also very enjoyable, due to the large variety of food we never felt hungry, wasps were a nuisance at first ,but we got used to them.
We also ate at the restaurant several times and again Christina and her mother were the perfect hostesses, the food and drink was lovely especially the delicious pizzas with great toppings of cheese on them.
We also received a free shot of raki after each meal which was a lovely little extra.
Overall we absolutely loved the villas and Christina and her family(especially little Arris) and the friendly maid service, we would not hesitate to book again for next year and since being back we have been recommending it to all of our friends and family.
Next time we may hire a car ,because it was a little bit out of the busy town, but then again we preferred the piece and quiet to the bustling town anyway, so it was a very minor problem and we could cope without one as Christina was all to happy to call a taxi for us ,but it would be nice not to depend on them.
Also there was the reliable bus service, the buses were more like coaches with air conditioning and seat belts and the tickets were reasonably priced, eg. to Herakilon for the whole family was around 11 euros, so cheaper than a taxi.
The only problem with the villas is that we did not want to leave!
Thanks Christina, hope to see you again
The Clifford Family.

We found the Golden Villas fantastic. Located in a quiet area just on the edge of town. We would like to say Hello to "Christina" Yasass! This family run group of Villas are excellent for a family or couple. We felt very welcome. There was never any feeling that this place was just after your cash.
We have had that awful feeling in a number of accommodations we have stayed in. For e.g. some evenings we would be chatting in the taverna and "Christina” would put a plate of fruits to pick at and after meals she would give us a free Raki!!! There were a lot of little touches that made you feel relaxed and welcome, Oh yes and Christina's mum is a fantastic Chef. I had the best "Stifados" ever!!
The menu booklet looks uninteresting, but that is only the menu booklet. The actual food served is Wonderful. The breakfast is served in the Taverna (on site). It is just what we would like. It had my favourite FULL English, Eggs, and Bacon etc. Cereals for the kids, Some Greek Breakfast specials and coffee, Tea & fruit juices. There is no Supermarket on site at this time. It is a 10min walk.
This place is absolutely 1st Class we would recommend it .But it is a little way out from town so you need to Hire a car OR Christina will get you a taxi to town, We would recommend "Kuterlafarie" in the evenings its full of tavernas and shops in a traditionally styled quaint winding Greek village on a hillside. Loverly.
The best beach is at the archeologically site at Malia, mainly locals with two tavernas and no beach bed parasol sellers. Just a sandy beach with a few trees. Not packed. Nice.
Maybe see you again Christina thanks for helping us have a lovely Holiday, Afcaristo (I'll be expecting a cheque in the post, ha ha).

This was our first family holiday to one of the Greek islands. We booked this last minute and therefore were unsure of what to expect. We were most pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Golden Villas.
Golden Villas are family run and have only being constructed 2 years ago. The views where excellent, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Christina, the owner was lovely and just couldn’t do enough to help you. Christina just made you feel very welcome and was even generous enough to give us free drinks on some occasions. She speaks very good English, Greek and German.
The breakfast was nice, but you had to be very careful of the wasps on the food. Breakfast is meant to be 8-10 but it does exceed this time, although if you do go later then the food is going cold and not much choice left, but it is only fair. At night for our evening meal, we ate in the restaurant several times as prices where very reasonable and the food was lovely. Also twice we got a bottle of Raki, the local drink(like whisky) which is something we recommend you try.
The villas where outstandingly clean and the pools where lovely. Although the pool water was slightly cold, it didn’t take a lot of getting used to.
The only small fault was that in order to get to our villas we had to go up a steep hill and steps, although when you get there views are amazing. This was only a slight problem for use, and only a small majority of families where on the top part. We would very strongly recommend that anybody with young children or walking difficulties does not stay here. It is very quiet, although there is some noise coming from the hotel next door, but it is not bad at all. You can get a taxi for 5 euros into Hersonissos and Christina will phone them for you. There are a few supermarkets but the main one (select) is about a 15 minute walk away but if you take a shortcut across a bit of land and turn right there is one just 5 minutes away.
Overall the hotel was wonderful and we will certainly be returning next year and we would recommend it to everybody. We had a lovely holiday and we are sure everybody that has stayed there had the same.

We have just returned from a fortnight at the Golden Villas, and enjoyed it very much. We had a villa with a pool which was shared with another apartment, but as the other apartment was generally unoccupied we had the pool all to ourselves. There are 3 tiers of apartments, we were at the end of the centre tier. The villa had a fabulous view, and gazing over it while floating in the cliff-hanging pool made you feel like a millionaire. The villa itself was very spacious, with a shower/wc on both floors. The previous reviews make much of the climb to the villas, but a 2 minute steep walk is worth it to enjoy the view (and the air conditioning!).
Breakfast was simple but perfectly fine and better than most Med places we’ve been to. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner, it was very quiet when we were there (at the close of the season) but the one dinner we had was delicious and very cheap.
The staff were all very happy and friendly, especially Nikos who was extremely charming, knowledgeable and helpful, and the glamorous Miss Poppy.
We hired a car, which we would advise as the Villas are a good half hour from the fringes of Hersonissos where the nearest restaurants, bank and decent supermarkets are. Also, car hire is very cheap, and exploring the inland areas of Crete is essential (the busy Hersonissos is not representative of the island). That said, there is not enough space here to describe the interesting and challenging Cretan driving experience.
We generally ate in the villages of Old Hersonissos, Koutouloufari and Piskopiano above Hersonissos, which are picturesque and make for a more rewarding dining experience than the main town. Take a taxi up, and walk back if you’re feeling energetic.
All in all, excellent.
