" BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!  "

Be afraid, be very afraid! My wife and I were looking for a peaceful short break, and having been to Rhodes before, thought we would go back. So we thought we knew what to expect. Rhodes, still the same – fantastic weather, beautiful island – Accommodation, ABSOLUTELY DIRE!
We went all inclusive but ended up eating out 3 of the 6 nights. The food was at best lukewarm, it was left out for hours, and some of it was decidedly suspect. The only food half palatable was the pizza pieces at the pool bar. The beer was like dish water, the shorts were drinkable (we had to drown our sorrows somehow) but were the cheapest brand available.
The rooms were ‘cleaned’ daily, but strangely the cob webs, dead mossie’s, and tissue on the floor (OK we left it there as a test) were still there after a week. The room outlook was over forests of bamboo or the main power station for the island.
Entertainment – a karaoke night on a Saturday; atmosphere – none; local attractions – a few tavernas (most very nice), a couple of shops, and a stony beach with no amenities.
The whole area is probably 10 years past its prime. Oh, and by the way, the village is a few miles from the airport – and directly under the flight path of planes taking off: so much for the peaceful break!
The best part of the whole holiday was the 15 hour delay on the return flight. We were put up for the day in a beautiful hotel in Ixia – edible food, clean rooms, and beautiful views.
Go to Rhodes, it’s beautiful, but go to Pefkos or Lindos, that’s the real Rhodes.

Advice: Past its prime, other places in Rhodes are better

Activities: Rhodes Town and southern parts of the island

" Paradise "

My husband and I have just returned from a week at this hotel and having read the reviews before we went were a little nervous!
No need at all, it was the most fantastic holiday we have had - sheer paradise!! The hotel staff were everything and more, the food was good and the rooms were excellent and cleaned every day. Only thing was the towels were only changed every 2-3 days.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a relaxing chilled out holiday by the pool.
We would love to go back again!

Advice: Sheer Paradise

Activities: Drosia and Mikes Restaurants were fantastic

Good for: Beach

" real greece "

Having read the previous reviewsfor this hotel my wife and I were very anxious. We had no need to be.We found the hotel to be perfectly adequate. The food is basic but fresh hot and plentiful.Breakfast was typically continental with a choice of ham, cheese, toast, cereal, croissants but also baked beans and bacon all be it Greek bacon! At lunch and dinner there was a choice of Greek salad,a fish option and usually 2 meat options typically chicken and lamb kofta and moussaka. If you like greek food you will be fine in this hotel. The rooms are spotless and we found the pool area and pool bar ok.I think people need to remember you get what you pay for and for what we paid we have absolutely no complaints,we had a relaxing week and met some really nice people. If you want to chill out,eat Greek food and have a few beers at night and recharge your batteries then you cant go wrong at Summer Dreams. If you want banging nightlife and late bars then avoid this resort like the plague.

Advice: very very quiet

Activities: beach taverna

" We have just returned from this... "

We have just returned from this Place. Please believe all the bad reports you read before you go they are all True. We Had a 4 hour delay at Manchester and arrived at Rhodes Airport Shattered. We were then conned by the Taxi Driver to the tune of 16 Euro for a 10 Minute Taxi Drive when it should have been 11 Euro. We arrived at the reception and asked to leave our passports and where informed where are apartment was . ( Not Taken) We stood for a while trying to find any numbers before another member of staff came up looked at the key number and just pointed the way. How the hell this Hotel ever got a 3 star ratting is beyond me and we are well travelled. The apartment we were in was obviously for self catering as it had a sink for washing pots which had taps that didn't work, there was a light fitting with a bulb missing and a plastic table on the balcony which was filthy. But we were Lucky our plug sockets actually worked unlike our friends we met who had no working plugs and no aircon. There were cracked wall tiles in the bathroom and a dividing door to a room next door which was secured by 2 Philips screws. The maids came every day but be careful they will take away the room towels and leave you without and I did here other guest asking for new ones at reception as did we. The Whole Place is up and down steps it is only good if you are fit. We Went All Inclusive which we have done else where before but have never seen anything like this. Your Meals are Buffet Style and always cold Even when it is supposed to Hot E.g. Meats etc. Everything swims in Greece (and I don’t mean on the beach) The Coffee machine has a habit of breaking down and we had to ask for milk on almost every occasion. The wine is Awful and was no better when Diluted with Soda and the beer in the restraunt would not poor and tasted stale when it finally did. You are expected to clear your own table when you have finished eating the swill and there is no aircon just open windows which let the magnificent wasps fly freely. If you sit in the right position you have the wonderful view of the Large Factory on the Sea front along with its enormous Smoking Chimney which never stops pumping out god Knows What. This is also very visible when sitting on the broken plastic sun beds which have no foam toppers around the pool. The Pool has a large fix in it with concrete and an abundance of floating insects which the staff did not bother removing. Drinks at the pool bar are served all day until six along with the pizza if you can call it that (Its more like cold cheese on dough) and other snacks which include biscuits cake and cold spam and cheese sandwiches .(If you want anything else Tuff) Not that you would. The all inclusive drinks Menu is stated in the Brochure Until 11pm Nightly, It is also stated on the wall in the Reception next to the Bar. But They decided to put a chalk board up stating it was half past ten and when I approached the manager (Little Hitler) he informed me this had been like this for 2 years and refused to let us have another drink on the all-inclusive even on my wife’s Birthday. Surely this is a breach of contract? The Toilet down stairs from the bar has no seat the bin has no lid and the paper holder is broken and the doors wont lock. There are ants crawling all over the chairs in reception and outside on the bar seats. The sprinkler systems for the grass are turned on without any regard to guest (so you will get a soaking in your Sunday Best). The Highlight entertainment was Karoeke on a Saturday Night , which sucked and that was the only entertainment. They have situated a little tykes basket ball net in the main swimming pool so when the drunks throw the ball and miss it always ends up in the children’s pool. I got hit in the face by one of these balls and it hurt , I would think it would snap a child’s neck . Cats are every where which isn’t a bad thing as they probably keep the rats down. The Beach is further than they say and it is extremely stony and the water can be quit rough. But you always have the wonderful view of the great Incinerator which never stops pumping smoke to cheer you up. Nearly forgot Lots of Germans and Poles who seem to get preferential treatment to the English. I found this strange for Greece.? One Night we decided to have an early one considering they wanted us to purchase drinks at 10.30 on an all-inclusive holiday. By 11.30pm we were just dozing off when our Polish Next Door Neighbours decided they wanted to kick there front door in, Oh Boy did the walls shake, ( Don’t bother pressing 9 on the Phone no one ever answers and that’s if yours will work) So after kicking the door in for 10 mins and screaming and shouting in polish they began to smash the room up throwing internal chairs off the balcony one flight up to the floor bellow with no concern for who mite be passing. Then the girl friend/ Wife turned up and started smashing around. ( Some German Fellow did shout very load for them to shut up, But they Didn’t.) We lay thinking the police would turn up or the brave staff but no one did. In the morning I went to reception to inform them that they mite just want to look at the room next door as it will be trashed. and she had a go at me for not phoning them. ( A Deaf Man in Rhodes Town would have heard That Commotion.) Same Morning I met and Elderly Welsh couple who were on the other side of this fracas and the Old Boy looked terrified. Well To summarise. All Inclusive. NO Family Orientated. NO Safe NO Views NO
Am I Happy ( You Guess)

" .not quite sure how to start my... "

.not quite sure how to start my review, on arriving in the middle of the night, was met by a white haired gentleman, who didnt really understand much english. I wanted to use a safety deposit box, didnt like the fact that they were near reception, which was not always manned. On entering the room thought oh my god its like something out of faulty towers, what with the curtains hanging off slightly, thought it couldnt get much worse. As for the food breakfast wasnt even a starter, tried the beans one day on toast which were cold, nothing much to choose from, dinner and evening meals, not too sure, all i can say is that it wasnt hot, no signs to tell you what you were are eating, so most times stuck with cold chips and a roll. The best part of the holiday is my 2 friends that i went with, we had a laugh. As for the pool, noticed a ring of scum around the edge, never witnessed anyone try and clean it. The staff were nice although at times there seemed a lack of understanding with the language barrier. As for the use of sunbeds, we suddenly realised on the last day that perhaps we should have been gettin up at 3 in the morning to secure our seats, I could go on and on. As for the All Inclusive bar, you were mainly offered cocktails, spirits were far and few, nothing much to choose from.

" My fiance and i have just returned... "

My fiance and i have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel. We booked our holiday with teletext, as a last minute cheap deal. If your after a no frills holiday then i reccomend summer dreams. The rooms were cleaned every day. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Drinks were good value. The only disappointment we experienced was the food. The continental breakfast was ok, but the lunch and dinner was very bland. It was rice, pasta. potatos, salad and pork for the whole of our stay. We ate out on three occations. (Dundee's ozzy bar has great food) Apart from that we found our holiday exactly what we were expecting. A quiet resort all in all, a lot of germans and eastern europeans in our hotel, but very relaxing. We would also recomend rhodes town.It cost 10 euros return on the bus for the both of us. Also don't bother with transfers from the airport. We were told it would cost £55 if we pre booked our tranfers, so opted to catch taxi to and from tholos. ( cost us 25 euros return)

" I looked forward to my first holiday... "

I looked forward to my first holiday with my daughter and I. When we arrived we were greeted by a grumpy receptionist in the middle of the night, we found our own way to the room which was after walking through dark walkways which made me feel apprehensive. I was attacked by one of the hotels cats! The room I was advised had been ren ovated............. a few issues, wires hanging out of walls, no light in bathroom, wardrobe door falling off apart from that fine......... After reading a number of reviews on the net I understood the hotel had improved during 08! Lots of sunbeds were broken and the pool dirty, cockroaches in the bottom. The labelled snackbar provided dried buscuits and a small range of dry snacks.

I could go on.........the food was appalling. Quality and choice were very minimal. Some friendly staff tho! Forgot no evening entertainment, just one kareoke night!

My advice after getting back this morning is dont go!

" We booked Summer Dream Hotel two... "

We booked Summer Dream Hotel two weeks before we went and after reading some nasty reviews about the hotel we were really worried. But on arriving we were pleasently surprised. The Room was very clean and the bathroom consisted of a shower and a bath!! The food was really great. Infact it was far better than a holiday to crete half board we went on a few years ago. Bacon, eggs, mushrooms, baked beans for breakfast awaited us for breakfast. Lunch was a great variety of salads meats vegetables. Evening meal again was of a good variety. All the food was lovely and fresh. Ok the drinks were a bit watery but hey it was free!!!
The pool was lovely and there were plenty of sunbeds!! No reserving of towels. Do visit the lovely little town just up the road. It is so pretty and we did have a meal in the square which was great. Tholos is a peaceful town so don't expect any crazy nightlife but it is certainly a place to just chill out with some great friends.

" Having read previous reviews we... "

Having read previous reviews we didn't know what to expect so were really very satisfied with the hotel, location and the Greek food. Anyone who complains about eating Greek food in a Greek resort should stay in a European hotel.Everything was really clean and staff helpful.Mosquitoes were unwelcome guests so come with your deterrent spray.A short walk-albeit a bit uphill-brings you to a beautiful village --tourist free and the views and hospitality are first class.Would not recommend for children but anyone wanting a relaxing break 10 mins from airport -go for it! Local bus stops at airport regularly on way to Rhodes town which is another 20 mins.

" We arrived at 3am and were greeted by... "

We arrived at 3am and were greeted by Jon who showed us to the location of our apartment. On opening the apartment door I was shocked to see someone asleep in the bed! I hunted Jon down in the reception to inform him and he argued with me that this was "impossible"! He came back to the apartment to check and yes he agreed there was definitely someone in the bed by shouting "Oh Jesus Christ!" (my three children were quite amused, however I was worried in case there was no apartment for us after such a long journey and the fact that it was 3am!). We were however allocated another apartment which was very spacious and clean.

Overall the complex was poor the public areas were dirty and overcrowded. The pool was ok however you needed to keep an eye on the kids as it was very deep. The pool bar was smelly however the bar staff worked very hard - they certainly didn't deserve the grief they had from Jon in the evening when they gave more than two drinks per visit to the bar under the all inclusive rules! (not too good when you are a family of five). We had an enjoyable week, mainly due to the slow pace of Tholos, the fantastic sunshine, and we did meet some nice people. As for the food - I won't even go there!!

" We arrived at the hotel at 12.30 our... "

We arrived at the hotel at 12.30 our room was not ready but we was told to go to the pool or have lunch which we did, our room was still not ready at 2.00pm. So went on the long walk to the beach 400 meters they said its a lot further than that.

We had our room at 5.30pm when we returned the room was basic and our cleaner was not a very good cleaner there was hairs in the bath and the drawers, not a problem sorted that with a hair dryer.

The food was not to bad, basic but there was always something to eat if you would try different things which is what you go on holiday for. I found the bar staff in the evening was very polite to you. The drinks was a good selection with a choice of 8 cocktails and the wine in fairness was very good for a local wine.

We would not stay in this hotel again because it was to far from the beach. We enjoyed our weeks stay there but its not a 3 star hotel more like a two and there was a lot of walking to the rooms etc.

" On arriving at the hotel we were... "

On arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a lovely Greek man who showed us to our room. The hotel itself was a complete nightmare.

The room we were given was on the lower floor and was situated behind the swimming pool which was a complete farce. My wife and I were very disappointed we had two single beds pushed together, and had a third bed in the room which was a pain!

The view out of the room was a hedge which anyone could get into the apartment. The shower well you had to hold it up to have one, which my wife was very disappointed with.

The complex is very basic the pool bar was a disgrace and had loads of flies and wasp flying everywhere, due the fact that it was never cleaned at the end of the day.

The pool itself was clean and was irrigated every day.

The food well what a disgrace for an All Inclusive complex the food was appalling mostly over cooked and sometimes not enough if you got there late. There was no air conditioning at lunchtime and with all the windows you were battling with the flies.

There were a lot of cat there and at the end of the day there was a bad smell of cat urine. My wife had to battle with the gnats or I think they were, but due the bites being above the ankle I think these were more like flea bites from the cats.

On a whole this was a very dissatisfied holiday and will be sending a very long letter of complaint to Medhotels who we booked with.

The best part was waiting for the taxi to pick us up for our flight home!

" I think the only reason I’ve given... "

I think the only reason I’ve given this holiday a three is because the staff, people we met and weather were all superb.

As for the accommodation and food it was appalling.

I have been to several Greek islands were the rooms have been basic but clean and comfortable.

I didn’t find this at the Summer Dream, don’t get me wrong the cleaners worked really hard but our room was old and shabby, the ceiling was all stained, wires were hanging out the wall behind the bed, drawers wouldn’t open.

It looked like it needed a total makeover and I’m really not fussy.

The food was very basic and the dining room at meal times was usually chaotic often running out of cutlery.

By the second week we ate out for our meals.

The whole thing reminded me of an old butlins camp, I won’t be rushing back.

" I would come down somewhere between... "

I would come down somewhere between the previous reviews, and give the summer dream a 6. Rooms were cleaned every day, and we were even left a vase of flowers in our room. The staff were mostly very friendly. Its location is a little out of the way, with quite a long walk to the nearest beach (nice white sand/rough sea).

Food was plentiful and varied in my opinion, although the restaurant had no air conditioning so sometimes we found we didn’t have much appetite as it vas very hot! In there.

No entertainment to speak of, apart from karaoke occasionally in the evening, although there are bars/tavernas down the road into Tholos.

A quiet base for a quiet relaxing holiday.
