Beau Rivage Resort Hotel

Wished we could have stayed longer - an excellent hotel in every aspect especially the staff. The hotel is situated on a beautiful long beach and the complex is wonderful with all the thatched roofs, open air public areas/restaurants and lovely big rooms. Everywhere is spotlessly maintained including the gardens and beach. What really makes it is the staff who genuinely go out of their way to help you and nothing is too much trouble. They always greet you with a smile and will spend time discussing your holiday and willingly dispense advice if asked. One of the boys who look after you on the beach told me to buy Green Island local rum, where to buy it and not to pay more than about £2 for it ! The restaurants are first class including the Rive Gauche which is mainly buffet and the Mediteranee on the beach was great for lunch. The breakfasts are the best - you are spoiled for choice. Everything you need is there for you but if you want to see more of Mauritius recommend you hire the hotel limo ( a top of the range Land Cruiser with a driver who spoke good English)which cost about £70 for the day. Well worth it as he will take you where you want, take you a quality restaurant for lunch ( La Capitain fish restaurats in Grande Baie )and to see lovely secluded beaches, local markets etc. Mauritius is a paradise island in many respects and the Beau Rivage is a great choice if you want real luxury in a really idyllic situation. Go on spoil yourself - it is not cheap but in our opinion you certainly get value for money.

my wife and i went to the beau rivage in october, pity we had to leave. we have been to a few 5 star resorts some more expensive but this place is head and shoulders above any. the staff are out of this world, especially the bar staff and the boys who work on the beach. the rooms are very spacious even the basic rooms and they all have a view of the beautiful beach. try the golf at the nearby belle mare vey nice. i am told the spa at the beau rivage is excellent, try the four handed massage. the best day of all though is a day at the races £50 gets you excellent food, a private box, entry, transport and as much champagne as you like. totally fantastic, go for it lifes to short

We spent 10 days at the Beau Rivage which included our wedding. I have been to many 5 star hotels throughout the world and this is by far and away the best. The room which is large, was cleaned every day to a very high standard. Room service was twice daily. The hotel buildings and grounds are beautiful and maintained perfectly by a host of gardners. The hotel looks out onto white sandy beaches and clear blue sea water, exactly what I had hoped for. The staff are very attentive and cater to every request, even going to the extent of cleaning your sunglasses as you laze on the beach. The food was also fantastic. The wedding was very well organised and went without a hitch in a beautiful setting. We have some fantastic photographs to prove it. I think there is an easy way to sum this hotel up, the woman from Guest Relations, who organised our wedding (and was brilliant) stated to me, that there is no such thing as "no" in this hotel, every request would be met to the best of their ability. This is a truely fantatstic hotel and if you are considering getting married in Mauritius then I would not hesitate to recommend it.

My wife and our two children stayed at the Beau Rivage mid-September for 2 weeks and I have to say it was the one of best holidays we have had and a big part of that was down to the hotel and its very friendly staff who all genuinely adore kids and are really enthusiastic about their jobs. The hotel is set amongst beautiful and well maintained grounds and has a beautiful stretch of beach in front of it. The location is absolutely fantastic and is faultless. The swimming pool is lovely, however the only downside is that it is not heated and if, as we experienced going this time of the year i.e. Mauritius winter, there are many cloudy days, the water doesn't get a chance to naturally heat up by the sun. It was therefore a sad sight to see it empty most of the time because the water was too cold. Rooms are spacious and very clean, however try to keep the doors closed as one night we had a lizard running around on the ceiling! The downside in terms of the hotel is the food. If you take the half board option, the themed buffet nights (twice a week) are fantastic and the choice is breathtaking, however on the a-la-carte nights, the choice was pretty dismal with only a couple of options for starters, main and dessert. However if you wanted a greater choice, this was at a price and incurred a supplement and even then the alternative choices weren't that fantastic. Drinks were also quite expensive with small glasses of coke costing nearly £3 and large beers £5. Weatherwise, if we were to return again, I would never come back in September and neither would I reccomend anyone to do so either. All the holiday brochures I read recommended the best time to go being from September onwards. However in the 14 days we were there we probably had about 5 days of sunshine/sunny intervals. The reast of the days were either completely overcast, cloudy, windy and raining.

What a place to stay. If you like pampering and top quality service this is the place to go. The customer service is outstanding. For example they will carry your towel to the sun lounges, clean your sunglasses, bring you a cold towel half way through the day and bring you mini pizzas on the beach, all for free. We stayed there on honeymoon and it was fantastic. It had a great range of free water sports; food was excellent and had evening entertainment. We stayed there at the end of the Mauritian winter which although it was hot it was very windy, so I would recommend the Mauritian summer time to go. The down side I suppose if any is that it is rather expensive but if you want to treat yourselves it is well worth it. There is not much to do outside this hotel apart from a tiny village with a few shops and maybe a restaurant or two so I would recommend hiring a car for a few days and seeing the island. I would mention that the road signs and the maps don’t exactly work well together which does take some getting used to but the island is quite small so you cant really get lost to badly. Shopping: Whilst in Port Louis the surf clothing located in the malls is half the price of that in UK so well worth picking a few items up to take home. All in all a excellent hotel.

Good Points Very friendly staff who all seem to know your name within 2 hours of your arrival! Bad Points Nothing really but if I had to pick on something it would be the vendors on the beach that are a bit annoying, especially if you are catching up on some beauty sleep. These vendors have nothing to do with the hotel though. General Comments Beau Rivage: I stayed at the hotel for 7 nights. Very relaxing resort. Beautiful beach and pool areas. Staff are excellent and cater to every whim. Good hotel for families with kids. They have a kids clubs, games rooms and the hotel arranges games on the beach like volleyball,waterpolo and bowls. Spa - exceptional massages offered. Variety of cuisines offered in restaurants. I am a very fussy eater and was catered for.

This hotel is the best i have been to. All the staff were really friendly especially Amit, Deepak, Jimmy, Joanna, Villam, Oomesh Luv ya guys lol. we stayed for 3 weeks in total and in the end became very frendly wid da staff they are all great!!!!!! however the shop person was a bit off a pervert BEWARE!!!!!! lol jkz. No the hotel is awsum, wikd pool, best beach, gd water sport, NICE STAFF, wikd rooms, gd food. OVERALL vry luxurious. Thankyou to everyone dere. LUV YA ALL, tlk soon amit lol xXxJxXx

We returned from Beau Rivage on the 4th of September, having been there one week for our honeymoon. It was stunning. It is genuine a smart, five star resort with great service. The rooms, views, food and friendliness are stunning. Yes it is expensive, but that should be expected by guests beforehand, hence the word five star resort. We wanted to be spoilt on our honeymoon, and got exactly that. Everything from a free laundry press on arrival, smiles all around, conversations with staff members to hear about our day, flower petals on our bed, formal invitation to a cocktail party, helpful tips on the island, packing of our suitcases etc. The food in restaurant is very interesting, and doesn't get boring because the theme changes every night. We explored a lot of the island, as well as other hotels, and were very please to see that Beau Rivage is definitely one of the best. Only complaint was the strong winds on the east side of the island. It didnt bother that much as there is so much more to do than sunbath. Exept the weather, we weren't unhappy with anything else our entire stay.

As newlyweds, my wife and I were really looking forward to our honeymoon in mauritius. We'd heard all the stories about how stunningly beautiful it would be and had read reviews about how, in particular, our hotel was one of the best on the island. Having arrived at the airport we were taken to our hotel, approximately 1 mile north. This was very depressing indeed. We saw a great deal of poverty. The buildings were all constructed entirely of breeze-block and half falling down. People looked sad and dirty, litter all over the place. This was the theme for our entire journey and was not at all the picture one has in mind for this supposedly "paradise island". During our stay we also hired a car and travelled much of the island, which I have to say confirmed our opinion that Mauritius is not as beautiful as one is led to believe. This, however, is in stark contrast with the hotel itself, which is highly luxurious and caters for almost any whim. Many people might be able to lock themselves up in this environment and forget what is happening right outside the front door, but my wife and I could not. It definitely soured the way we felt about staying in such luxury, and we formed the impression that it had a similar effect on others. Now, I say that the hotel itself caters for almost every whim. Well, it does..... but at a price, and quite an extortionate one at that. 2 glasses of 250mls cola came to about £5 after tax. A pint of lager was nearly £5 as well. But without a doubt, the most shocking rip-off came from the wine list. Wine started at about £30 per bottle. In hotels which offer specialist wine lists of the sort you cannot usually buy in the shops, this might be acceptable. However, a £30 bottle of wine here could be found in the neighbouring Belle Mare village just a ten minute walk away for £3. Bottles they charged upwards of £50 for could be found in supermarkets in Flaq town centre for about £8. If you wanted to avoid paying these charges and decided to buy your own wine, you could bring your own bottle but be charged £12 corkage fee, and also suffer the humiliating embarrassment of feeling like a cheap fool. Now, I'm not a tight person, but I object firstly to paying these prices for distinctly average wine, and secondly (and most importantly) I object to the audacity with which hotel chains feel that just because you've already paid for your food in your board tariff that you should pay it again plus what the alcohol would cost...... but JUST on the alcohol!! Needless to say, I did not drink very much alcohol as I did not want to re-mortgage my house. Many other couples felt the same. The sad thing for Beau Rivage is that had they charged half these prices (which would still be a rip-off) I know I would have spent nearly four times what I did, hence they would actually make more money;something for the big cheeses in Beau Rivage head office to contemplate I feel! Food for the most part was very good indeed. There is an abundance and wide variety of very fresh fish served in each of Beau Rivage's four restaurants. The main one is called Rive Gauche, which offers a mixture of a la carte and buffet meals. There are themed nights which are fun, but these repeat on a weakly cycle, so if you stay more than a week this can be a bit repetitive. On nights with a la carte menus you will have a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 deserts, which is not a vast amount of choice in my opinion. You can however elect to sample other dishes not covered by the board tariff, but as with the wine, these are extortionate too. We are talking about £10 for a starter and £20 for a main not covered by board tariff, which is rediculous considering the amount you have shelled out already for the board tariff. The next most frequented restaurant is Le Mediteranee which, as its name suggests, specialises in mediteranian dishes. The menu here didn't ever seem to change and board inclusive meals here seem sparser than at Rive Gauche, but it is nice for a change. Pizzas tend to be quite greasy, but I can whole-heartedly recommend the marlin ravioli....yum! The last two restaurants are the speciality restaurants. Indou Chine Restaurant is beautiful, but I would never entertain eating here had it not been for our complimentary honeymoon meal. A 3 course meal here for two would easily set you back £150 with a bottle of wine, but the food was slightly better than in the other restaurants. The final restaurant is La Langoustine. This is situated just in front of Rive Gauche and has spectacular views across the property and looks out over the beautifully lit pool and out to sea. This is however as good as it gets. From the moment we sat down we were in no doubt that the waiters were more interested in our wallets than in our enjoyment. Here, there are only 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 deserts which are board inclusive. The alternative, as in Rive Gauche, was to be extorted with dishes not included on board tariff. When we chose the "free" options, any interest the waiter had in us was gone. The couple next to us had ordered a lobster and undoubtedly warrented much more attention. Our food was shocking, and I mean SHOCKING! Fish undercooked, deserts which tasted savoury! We never ate there again. What about the service? I had read that one of the main reasons to go to this hotel is to experience the service. Apparently it was second to none. The word which I feel aptly summarises the service here is "oppressive". To be asked three times in the space of 2 minutes if your meal is ok is not just being attentive. To be unable to pick up the bottle of water from your table and top up your glass because if you do a waiter will run across the room and snatch it off you is not, in my opinion, attentive. To have to justify your reason for not selecting wine at every meal is a very uncomfortable position to be in, and the anticipation of this predicament each time you sit down to a table is just as bad. I actually felt like I was being "told off" for not getting wine, and on one occasion was told that my selection of water was ok to wash my hands in, but what would I like to drink?..... and he was being serious! We went full board as we had been told the afternoon meal might be quite expensive in a 5* hotel. This did save us about £10 each lunch time, but we were automatically relegated to the inferior bar restaurant for having taken this option. Other guests who had taken a half board option were able to eat at the beach restaurant which was much more salubrious and had a much greater selection of food. I feel in retrospect that it would have been wiser to pay the little extra at lunch for the improve choice we would have received. Having spent more than £300 per night to stay in this hotel, we feel that it would have been reasonable to expect that items not included in the tariff would cost just a little bit more, but not to the degree that they were. I understand that hotels in far away places in the middle of nowhere need to charge a little bit more than those in sprawling metropolises and that they are not charities. But, when you consider that if a couple decides to drink just one bottle of wine and a few soft drinks at their meals, and decides to eat just two or three items not included in their tariff in each day that this adds to about £150 per day, I believe this is a disgraceful expression of corporate greed. Now to the good points. The room was impeccably cleaned every day. Room service was twice daily, and many times we came back from our evening meal to find rose petals on the bed. The accomodation and buildings/grounds were beautiful and maintained perfectly. The beach and sea were gorgeous. Watersports were offered in abundance and many were included free. We had a great time and a holiday is what you make of it, but I feel I have to be brutally honest about the hotel, because although a hotel doesn't make your holiday, it certainly has the potential to alter it. If you appreciate value for your money and you really want to come to Mauritius I think you need to consider an all inclusive hotel. If you want to come to Mauritius because you think it will be beautiful, then you have been misled because the island of Mauritius is not, though the resorts may be. If you want good weather, as with all southern hemisphere regions, come in our winter time, and not thiers.

We stayed at Beau Rivage for two weeks this june/july. Overall the place was very good although there were a few suprises. The staff are amazing, very attentive, sometimes a bit too much. Having spoken to other guests it appears that this is only so in the winter months and in the summer they don't have time to talk to you. The rooms are very good and massive. Cleaned twice a day with plenty of fresh towels etc. The pool is very large but not heated and frankly was too cold to swim in. The sea is lovely and warm and plenty of fish to look at. There are a number of activities but watch out for extra costs. The breakfasts are fantastic, despite being there two weeks we didn't try everything. The evening meals in the main restaurant are not great, poor choice and very small portions. However on the 3 gala nights that they have a week you will be totally spoilt for choice. Because there are no restaurants within 30 mins drive of the hotel you have to make do with the highly expensive restaurants in the hotel. Make sure if you are half board they take your disount off. If you like to drink wine with your meal be prepared to pay at least £35.00 a bottle for the basic house wine. The enternainment is not what you would expect from a five star resort, frankly the singers were dreadful. There are lots of beach sellers wandering around the beach and sadly the security staff do nothing to prevent them coming into the pool area where they pester you beyond belief. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Beau Rivage, very clean, fantastic breakfasts and wonderful service. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on the basics.
