Travel Park Hotel

I chose the hotel based on reviews on this site and it made a comfortable stay. Having read about double booking, I e-mailed the hotel direct to check and they confirmed this. It only takes a few seconds. Room was very spacious and quite clean. Breakfast was very good - meats, cheeses, cereal, fruit, hot food (egg,bacon etc) and nice coffee. As mentioned in past reviews, one of the great things about this hotel was its close proximity to a metro station, which makes it easy to get to all major points of interest in Lisbon including the 'old town' area, Belem, the downtown area where there are a good deal of restaurants and bars, and the more upscale uptown. Front desk was very helpful and was great at giving us directions and tips on where to eat. We went there on 24-28 May and fortunately enough I hadn't already read the reviews about overbooking. Working a lot with hotels, I can tell you that each hotel in the world is working with overbooking but.. too bad when it happens to you of course. I had also to say that we booked via the hotel (written faxes, tel, re-checking etc) and not via internet. Maybe that's the difference because we had our room (even if it was 22:00 as arrival time) which was very fine. it was very large and clean, having a sight on the internal yard.... more

We booked this hotel on line. Got a confirmation, called them - they confirmed and left a phone number. Reservation was fully prepaid (so there was no chance of no-show). When we arrived at the hotel at 19:00 the receptionist told us "they had technical problems with the comptuer system, and they are overbooked" (which I now see, from reading the reviews was just a lie - they overbook as a principle). We (a party of 4) have just returned from a 3 night stay in Lisbon. Having booked in February via GTAhotels, we arrived after a very early flight at the hotel. The receptionist was abrupt and didn't even take our names, but just told us to write out a label, place on the luggage and put it in store. We stayed at the Travel Park for four nights and would recommend this hotel to other travellers. The hotel is located near a metro station (Anjos) that is only 2 stops away from the lively Baixa area. The rumble from the metro trains is noticeable when in your room, but it will not disturb you. The rooms themselves were modern, large and very clean with a minibar and cable TV that featured many English speaking channels (not just CNN). Having carefully selected this hotel on reading the positive reviews in TripAdvisor, it was a shock to be turned away when we arrived. We had booked via Expedia, and the receptionist told us that the hotel was full with two groups, and that the internet bookings had not been closed even though the hotel was fully booked. Therefore everyone turning up that day (2nd April 2006) was being turned away and sent to alternate hotels. The Travel Park hotel was a fantastic hotel that I can highly recommend - 3 star but definitly at the top end of this rating. The rooms although not massive were bright, airy and clean. The beds were very comfortable and the complimentary bathroom supplies were plentiful. Staff were excellent and their english was very good. The breakfast buffet was fresh and had selection of food to suit everyone. Once again, thanks to Tripadvisor for the good advice. We stayed four nights in this hotel and we found it to be terrific value at 54 € for a double including breakfast. It is very well located (Anjos metro station being just out of the door), very clean, rooms are spacious and with all comforts. The breakfast buffet is good, with different sorts of pastries. It is especially convenient if you come by car, as it is straight from the airport and it has a large parking.

I was in Lisbon for the first time for a four day conference. Decided to stay away from "the main drag" to save $$$, and picked the Travel Park based on TA reviews. I was not dissapointed! The rooms were very nice. Simple, but not stark. I have certainly paid more for much smaller rooms in other European cities. Good sized TV and bath tub. Comfortable bed; mini fridge. Most of the staff spoke good English and were very friendly. Only complaint was that I couldn't keep the window opened at night because of too much noise and light... more
