Nice helpful guy on the reception desk Room shabby, esp. carpet; thick layer of dust on top of the wardrobe Room tiny - could hardly get round the bed Took ages to find the TV remote control! I would have rated this hotel higher if it hadn't been for one of the worst nights sleep i've had in years. Check in went fine, the room was clean and the staff were pleasant enough. Our problems started when I went to bed. Despite the fact that the radiators were on high, the room was freezing. The duvet and blankets provided little reflief as they were obviously designed for the summer months. It was only when covered by a mountain of my own clothes that I was eventually able to nod off. I stayed here for one Saturday night and I am glad that I didn’t have to endure this place for one second longer. It was raining when I arrived and therefore was understandably eager to get top my room, shower and change for the evening. However, there was no sign of anyone on reception. I waited for five minutes and still no one. Dripping with water I made my way the bar to try and find someone. The bar waitress made a token attempt to locate the manager, but to no avail. The Linton Lodge Hotel is a 20 minute walk from the city centre, but there are a couple of good pubs about 5 minutes away that will do a good meal. We didn't find the non-central location to be inconvenient. We arrived very early in the morning (6:45am) having just arrived at Heathrow after 20 hours of flying. The staff were friendly and considerate in allowing us to check-in so early. They remained friendly and helpful throughout our brief stay. This was a good hotel in an old building. The staff was very helpful and the hotel was maintained and run well. However, it is not close to the center of Oxford, and it takes a good 20 minutes to walk into the center (although the route is past very nice old residential buildings). I was suprised not to get a bigger and better room at the price, although all the hotels in Oxford tend to be very expensive. If you don't mind staying in a modern chain hotel, I found the Holiday Inn to be just as convenient (although about twice as far from the... more
