A night at the Abode
We stayed at the Abode for one night as we were attending a wedding in the area. Having read the reviews regarding carparking - and being 7 months pregnant - we rang in advance to ask if a place could be reserved. They were more than helpful and we had a place on arrival. Infact they held our space when we went out to our reception which was there for us on our return with our names on a board. Very organised. We also requested early check-in which was no problem either. We stayed in an Enviable room which had wooden... more
Incredible location
We took our first trip to England in Nov 2007 and planned to spend our first night in Canterbury. After reading many online reviews, we made a reservation in advance for the Abode Canterbury hotel. I called the hotel several weeks before the trip to reserve our two rooms (4 people traveling). Our two days and one night in Canterbury was the highlight of our trip and a great introduction to the UK! We were so happy with our choice of the Abode Hotel. It was a bit harrowing getting there as we were still getting accustomed to the car,... more
Great! Loved it! But ...
Canterbury is one of my favourite places in the UK. This was our 2nd visit here and we wanted a no nonsense, convenient, safe hotel to accomodate my wife and baby. Happy to pay a bit extra for luxury, we chose the Abode. On arrival we were not disappointed. The location is fantastic, and has a lovely, modern, contemporary style, really fitting for the location and city. The bar looked great, and the restaurant inviting - so much so we decided straight away to book a table. The restaurant thankfully accepted young infants, and the meal... more
Extremely disappointing and poor value for money
Like other users, I did not get a response to the constructive comments that I sent to the Abode following our stay. Consequently, I now feel the need to make these comments public! I took my partner to the Abode for a birthday treat but nothing felt special, despite the high price paid. Parking issues are covered elsewhere - basically, you have to find your own! We arrived at 3pm having been told that we could check in at 2pm but our room wasn't ready. We had some lunch in the Champagne Bar - (very sub-standard sandwiches with hard... more
Luxurious Abode
The Abode is situated in the centre of Canterbury and is ideally located for the numerous restaurants and bars and of course the cathedral. From the moment you enter the hotel you sense that this hotel is going to be very luxurious. Our room was very contemporary and had a wall mounted LCD TV and DVD player. The bathroom was very stylish and the bespoke toiletries were a nice touch. The room was spotless and the bed was possibly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Unfortunately we did not get to eat in the Michael Caines... more
loved it
stayed for 1 night with my wife as I was graduatuing at the Cathedral complex - the Hotel was a little expensive but using some airmiles helped soften the blow - managed to get the car parked ok and this was an extra £5 for 24 hours - the room was very clean and the bed was Superb - the bathroom small but chic. we ate in the restaurant and found the service excellent and the food likewise although I could have eaten a lot more - the bar was very intimate. Breakfast was a treat and the convenience of the location was a plus point. Overall I... more
Good but expensive
We had a 1 night stay in Canterbury at the Abode, it is very central - it is on the high street. Parking is a bit of a nightmare as they have a very small car park which was full when we arrived so you have to park in a council one about a 5 mins walk away - you do not get any voucher or ticket from the hotel for it. The room was great with plenty of space. Breakfast (which was extra to the £145 per night) was very good but overall this was an expensive night away. We tried the Tavern next door (aslo owned by the same group) for dinner -... more
Expensive and very disappointing - stay somewhere else
I was really looking forward to this stay and I am afraid I was left disappointed. Its location is very good however everything else was very disappointing. Car parking was a nightmare having to park a good 10mins away and pay nearly 7 pounds in the public pay and display car park. I then had to carry my luggage across Canterbury at night. I would not recommend this hotel for women on their own arriving late. When I got there I found the 130 pounds per night did not include breakfast and that it would be an additional 13 pounds each. I... more
Extremely average
The ground floor champagne bar and reception were very well decorated. Staff were very friendly. The concierge ran out to show us to the last space in their small car park (£5 charge). We spent a night in a Desirable room (the Enviable rooms being fully booked). The Desirable Room was £145, the Enviable £175. The Enviable rooms were considerably larger. Our room had a bad layout - very long and thin. We were on the second floor and the corridor was very noisy with doors slamming etc. The room itself did not have a great finish... more
