Cambridgeshire Moat House Hotel

Booked a 1 night stay at Menzies diretly with hotel, having read some of the reviews, I decided that the rate of £89.90 for a superior room dinner bed and breakfast was worth chancing it! The hotel is very easy to get to off Junction 29 of A14, the slip road leads you directly to the hotel. On arrival the check in went smoothly (be aware switch is not accepted for pre authorisation). Arrived at the hotel, with the impression that the hotel would be on a golf course, only to find that it is on a main road, no views from the rooms. The hotel rooms are in need of a refurbish. The staff are rude and the spa is not very clean.

I really liked this hotel and enjoyed my stay here – considering the price I think it is excellent value for money. Clean, comfortable, great on site facilities, large bar area with sky TV, restaurant… I didn’t manage to try the spa, but I had a good look round and it was v. tempting. The food was fantastic so I recommend eating in the restaurant – nice friendly staff that can suggest a good bottle of wine..or two I would have quite happily stayed here for longer! btw - it was cheaper to book directly on the hotel's... more

Pretty souless place, despite apprently renovation. Was not happy to have to give a 50 pound advance incase we ran up a drinks bill at the bar (never been asked to do this before at a hotel). They also required a charge to bring an ice bucket to your room as there is no minibar or fridge available. Breakfast was the only positive, rooms very small and bland. Stayed at the Menzies for two nights on business recently and was completely underwhelmed. When we arrived shortly after midnight after a delayed flight there were three staff members standing at reception chatting, none of whom where able to check us in. Eventually someone arrived and we were dealt with. On arriving in my room, I felt it was small and cold with little in the way of amenities (an ironing board but no iron, no fridge/mini bar), the decor seemed really dated and the bathroom grotty with the rattly extract fan running... more

We stayed at this hotel last weekend as it was the only place showing availability in Cambridge. We had originally wanted to stay nearer to the centre of Cambridge but had no choice as everywhere was fully booked. We then decided to stay at Menzies for two reasons - the hotel on the website looked really good, and two of our party wanted to play golf. However, this place did not resemble anything close to the pictures on the web-site!! People must stay here purely for business as there would be no other reason to entice people to... more

Needed a spot in the area for a one night stay and, while there was nothing wrong here, I can't say that it has any particular appeal either. Room was clean but bland - fine for my purposes, but wasn't going to provide any support for someone's "memorable" stay! Price seemed reasonable for the area (US$125) and it is definitely convenient to the road system (A14) NW of Cambridge. I read the reviews on this hotel after i booked and was very worried. I had booked half board and was looking forward to a nice relaxing break with my partner away from our kids for a weekend. I found the whole experiance great, friendly staff, nice room great pool and food was outstanding! No buffet dinner here, all orders from a menu and fit for a king. I will go back next year.
