shabby, in need of remodeling
While I don't expect this hotel, which was formed from older, (perhaps the original Georgian-era, if not rebuilt after WWII) buildings, to be slick & shiny, it fell seriously short in terms of some basic standards. Ceiling in bedroom & bathroom was peeling. Carpet was very dirty. Bed cover had stains. One the plus side, the furniture, both in public spaces & in rooms, were beautiful pieces of the pre-fiberboard era. Location is great. Like all English hotels, windows lack screens; so getting outside air, meant admitting flies & other... more
I would stay here again.
Great location for train station and town centre. I loved this hotel. Staff were very friendly, room 101 was very comfortable. I was originally in room 116 where there was no view but staff changed my room at my request and without hassle. Meals were perfectly cooked. Music in the hotel bar was more suited to a funeral parlour. TV in room did not have a good reception and channels were all mixed and some were missing. Bar area was very small and did not sell much choice of drinks also you had to find someone yourself to serve you drinks,... more
Our favorite
This was the sixth time we stayed at this hotel, the staff are friendly and helpful & rooms are nice and clean (we stayed in four poster) this time but we also stayed in suite before. The food is delicious & breakfast too, there are various lounges and a games room & open fireplaces. If you are looking for a relaxing break then i would recomend this, also Bath is beautiful, i will be returning in october........
above average
I thought this was above average and was better than I was expecting. It is in a good location, just away from the city centre. The room was great, with a nice bathroom and a big bed. Thought the breakfast was really nice. It was included in the price and you could help yourself to as much as you want. The hotel WAS quite old fahioned and dated, but that all adds to the charm of the place. There is a great old fashioned elevator too, which I always looked forward to using at the start and end of every day..they don't make 'em like that anymore.
in need of a re-fit
My husband and I stayed for a long weekend at Pratts Hotel for our wedding anniversary. We found the location of the hotel ideal as it was easily in walking distance of the city centre. The hotel itself however was very disappointing and definately not value for money. The rooms were shabby and the bed was really uncomfortable, but the worse thing was being woken up constantly by either creeking stairs, doors slamming or just people talking in the corridors. I know part of the hotels charm is it's age and style, but a bit of renevation... more
Good Value in Convenient Location
Very spacious room (#210 from memory) with separate lounge room and nice outlook. There were some issues with the lighting in our room, but this was handled professionally and efficiently by the Duty Manager. Slight confusion with reception when asking about parking - here's a tip, the car park is across the road and you can either pay at Reception or at the Pay and Display machines. Easy walking distance from all the attractions and surprisingly quiet (for such a central location). Breakfast was fine - although mine was somewhat rushed... more
Past it's best.
We stayed at Pratt's in June with our young son. It did not live up to expectation and definitely was not value for money. The hotel has seen better days; I would imagine when the Victorians visited Bath this establishment was the height of society but now it is a shadow of itself. The staff were fine, the rooms adequate, but like the lift/elevator there are alot of creaking joints needing some TLC. Also, there is no soundproofing to shut out the noise outside.
Very nice, convenient
I liked it. I had a single room (note: single bed) for two nights. The room was pleasant, great views. The halls and stairs of this old gem are really creaky, but doesn't disturb me in my room. You can't do better than this for convenient walking access to downtown attractions. Very quaint. Very English. One note - I would skip the full English breakfast here unless it is included in your room rate. The hot stuff just isn't done well.
Perfect location
Stayed in Pratts for a weekend with three friends and found it generally very good. The best point must be the location, situated on a quiet street, within easy walking distance of everything and the car park opposite is perfect. The staff were friendly and efficient and the building had a certain homely charm. Bedooms we got were a good size, clean with extra seating area, tea cofee etc. Some mattresses were a little softer than others. The biggest downside was the creaking floorboards which both rooms suffered badly from. In addition the... more
believe the reviews :)
I usually go with a recognised name in hotels but decided to try this one based on the reviews and was not disappointed. Friendly staff, tho we were out a lot and didn't have too much interaction. Breakfast was a buffet of the usual egss, bacon etc... with pastries and jams. Enough to satisfy. We took up the 'stay till 5pm on check out day' option which included lunch and the lunch was fantastic. Room was superb, but don't go expecting a brand new room with all the latest, its decorated to an older style and yes the floors creak a little,... more
