This hotel was very cheap but was surprisingly good.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were really nice. The bathroom especially was very nice.
The hotel is in a good location with bars, restaurants etc all in walking distance.

After booking cheap tickets with Ryanair, we found this hotel through Alpha Beds. The flight came into Gerona and the 16 euro bus journey to Barcelona took 1hr 20 mins.
We left the bus close to Tetuan metro station, and went the 2 stops to Universitat. The Hotel Splendid is just round the corner from there.
On first appearances the hotel was great; modern, clean and ideally located. Our only problems came that night. The hotel bedrooms are situated above a theatre, not normally a problem, but the weekend we chose there was a jazz band appearing! We were moved to the other end of the hotel the following night.
Barcelona is a great place for eating, with some excellent restaurants and cafes. High on our recommended list would be QuQu, just off Placa De Catalunya. We sat outside until 11pm in the middle of December, eating the best Tapas we had anywhere in Barcelona. Anywhere near Placa De Catalunya would be a good place to base yourself for a short stay, as everything seems to be available from here.
Things to avoid - the twice we ate in restaurants in La Rambla we felt dissapointed, with the "rip-off" attitude towards tourists. They constantly try feeding you various exotic Tapas, which are obviously expensive.
Things to do - One of the organised bus tours was a great way to see different parts of the city, including the Olympic Stadium and the museum. Start early, you really will run out of time trying to squeeze it all into one day.

Well positioned hotel away from the tourist hustle and bustle, but within walking distance to places of interest.
Room was spacious, quiet with excellent facilities for a 3 star hotel and the breakfast was extensive, a good start to a day's sightseeing. All the hotel staff were very hospitable and helped with any information we needed.
On the opposite corner to the Hotel Splendid is the Principe bar, a locals bar with patrons and staff who are welcoming, and are happy to inform on good local eateries. Not commonly used by tourists, the bar adds to the Barcelona experience.
The hotel is in easy walking distance to the Placa de Catalunya, from where the tourists hop on and off buses depart, and are recommended to first time visitors to Barcelona. Maps and an audio are supplied enabling the tourist to earmark places of interest for an extended visit on the excellent Metro system.
Would highly recommend the Hotel and beautiful Barcelona for a pleasurable experience to remember.
