Mercure Comercial Hotel

I spent 5 days at this hotel. Never once did I recieve a smile, hello, goodbye, or even a nod of a head by a staff member. This included front desk, security, and restaurant staff. When I checked in, the front desk clerk did not even say hello or welcome. I got just a look that asked, "What do you want." Only very poor management would allow this total indifference to run rampant throughout the entire hotel. The hotel itself was clean and well located.

avoid this hotel by all means. very rude front desk staff. rooms are very smelly due to the age of hotel. i regret choosing this place for my 4 days wekeend getaway.

I've stayed twice in this hotel and consider it good value for money. If you've stayed in Mercure hotels in Europe (it's a french chain) this one is really no different. Everything is clean and in good working order, a/c, TV, safe (ask for the lock at reception) etc. It's not a resort hotel; you wouldn't want to stay in the rooms or the hotel all day. While staying here with a group of students who were getting ready to study abroad in the DR during the spring semester, I had my laptop, about 100 US dollars and a pair of pants stolen from my locked hotel room. The management denied responsibility, even though it was clear to everyone but them that was involved that the maid had stolen these items. (She continually lied to us about where she was, etc.) You should not stay here under any circumstances.

I went to Santo Domingo from Dec 26/2005 to Jan 4/2006, the staff was great, the food was excellent. it didn't matter the time that i arrive, the was allways a parcking spot just outside the hotel. There is alot of culture and history around the hotel. The room was small but the service that i got, was excellent. next time i got back, i will stay in the hotel again.

Stayed at this hotel for a businesstrip one night in November 2005. The location of the hotel is great if you want to visit the old town. Nevertheless, the rooms are very tiny and the bathrooms are even more tiny. The rooms will soon need a refurbishment.

I visited Santo Domingo for the first time October 7-9, 2005. I stayed at the Mercure, in part, basis on the reviews I read on this site. I loved this hotel. While the rooms are small, they are extremely clean and the air conditioning is ice cold. The location of the hotel is superior! There are many shops and resturants all around. I paid $50 a night (and that included all taxes and breakfast). I would stay at the Mercure over and over again.

This hotel is central to the Colonial Zone of the capital city (Santo Domingo). Within walking distance to all the shops and historical areas. Close to many restaurants and discos. The hotel offers a restaurant, complimentary breakfast, in room mini bar. The room I had was small by the standards of other hotels but was very well kept, clean and offered everything you need. Good deal. I think this place had an excellent location and was quite nice. You can walk to most interesting places, there are taxis outside. I visited here about a year ago and travelling by myself. It is cheery with good service. Obviously not a historical hotel but good for what it is.

This as the second time I stayed a this hotel. The only complainant is upon check in I changed rooms four times because all the rooms were small. I paid for a superior room and received a standard room. The staff was helpful and friendly. My room was maintain daily. The breakfast was poor. They can do better. Same selection of food every morning. The restaurant served pretty good food. The hotel is in an excellent location for shopping and the observation of shoppers. I am going back to Santo Domingo in May and will stay there again.
