This was a wonderful complex, really friendly staff, nice local food, clean accommodation etc.
We had fresh flowers in our room everyday and clean towels, which was thoroughly appreciated after a day in the sea! The beach was lovely but not used much by other visitors, who tended to stay around the pool.
This was the only complaint I have, entertainment was a bit much for us! Overall, excellent value for money, particularly if you take advantage of free taster water sports etc.

Just got back from a two week holiday...

Jul 2006, Miss E Masters

Just got back from a two week holiday at the Paraiso Del Sol with my boyfriend and wanted to say how much we enjoyed it. I was a bit nervous after reading some reviews but was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The hotel is big and quite spread out and set back from the main road. The reception area was really airy and clean and the reception staff seemed pleasant. The rooms are big and clean and were cleaned daily, and also fumigated once a week even though we saw no insects which were good! The only problem we had was with our door lock, when we swiped the card the lock was sticking, but it was fixed straightaway.
The pools were clean, we mainly stayed around the biggest one because it was the centre of any activities, and one of the other pool bars wasn't staffed.
There was plenty of stuff to get involved in, water aerobics, darts, boules etc.
The animation staff were one of the highlights they were really friendly and funny. Every Friday there was a manager’s cocktail party where you met the manager and the rest of the staff.
The food was OK, I am a bit fussy but my boyfriend enjoyed it. They had theme nights but there was always pizza and pasta whatever night it was! The Italian restaurant was nice the food was alot fresher than the buffet restaurant.
We went on some excursions, Paradise Island is amazing (if you can stand the bus ride!) I would recommend that to anyone. We went quad biking and also to Ocean World. With Paradise Island and quad biking we got to stop off at villages and meet the people who live there which was great, it made it more than just a holiday, it was a cultural experience, and you also got to see more of the country which is really beautiful and diverse.
We had an amazing time, and would definitely go back, and to the same hotel.

Feb 2006, Ms L Hattersley

I was so worried about going after reading all the awful reports- but was very pleasantly surprised. We were welcomed in a friendly way, and all the staff were lovely.
The food was good and varied. The hotel was clean- in fact I have never seen toilets by a pool so clean. All the animation team were friendly and we were always invited to join in- even if we did just want to lay by the pool!
Had we wanted 5* luxury we would booked it. And for the price we got the holiday for it was much better than we had expected.

The accommodation was basic but...

Jan 2006, Mrs L Higgins

The accommodation was basic but comfortable. Beach was nice and clean and fairly unused due to an abundance of swimming pools. Sea a bit too rough for swimming though. Food was lovely although a bit samey after two weeks. Many Brits were unhappy with the food, not enough chips I expect. My partner and I were very happy with the local dishes and fresh fish etc.
The resort was fairly desolate but if you are brave enough to get on a guagua (local bus) and travel around you can visit some wonderful places such Puerta Plata, Cabarete, Sosua etc. Excursions are far too expensive - try to find an alternative way to get around. And finally if possible, please try a diving course - the underwater scenery is lovely!

Got an exceptionally cheap deal on...

Dec 2005, Mr C Robinson

Got an exceptionally cheap deal on this hotel and still was not impressed.
I could not believe the number of people who got ill from the food, it is easy to see why though, food is left out for the buffet for long periods of time, at the snack bar in the afternoons the food isn’t covered in any way whatsoever.
Also its true about the stray dogs, they really are allowed to wander around the site! Didn’t stay in the hotel for the evening entertainment but it didn’t look like we missed anything, largely tried to spend as much time out of the resort as possible!
The bars are quite nice although I did get handed dirty glasses on a couple of occasions, the alcohol is reasonable but really is the sort of quality you'd expect at an all inc. The local beer is v.good but they seemed to continually run out of it!
I know it is openly stated but it really does need to be reiterated that the beach at the hotel has a really nasty shore dump and a very strong rip, Cabarete bay is far nicer & where I spent most of the holiday!
All in all, not recommended.

Dec 2005, Miss K  Partington

I stayed at this hotel in 2003 with 4 friends. The rooms were clean and quite big. The food was okay once we tried all the restaurants, we stuck to the same one. The hotel itself is very nice and the staff are very helpful.
My friend was bitten by a 'calum' and had a really bad allergic reaction, she was really quite ill. The staff were fabulous providing food trays etc and the English speaking doctor knew what to do immediately.
The only downside I would say is the entertainment, it was appalling and finished at 9 30 each evening leaving us very board. Didn't think much of cabaret either in comparison to other areas.
Overall okay but don't spend a lot of money going here.

Apr 2005, Mrs D Fisher

We have just returned from the Dominican Republic, we stayed at the Pariso Del Sol.
If you have booked this hotel please contact your tour operator as they shouldn’t be sending dogs there. We as with 80 others were moved from this place on the 3rd day of our holiday, mass food poisoning, bugs in rooms, no aircon after 7am, dirty cooking conditions, glasses washed in front of you in greasy soapy water and not rinsed, dirty swimming pool and area dogs and cats around the pool.
The beach was lovely except for the persistent sellers who wouldn’t take no thank you for an answer and were quite abusive. If you have booked this hotel don’t waste your hard-earned 2 weeks on drip.

Mar 2005, Mr Vaughton

I selected 1 in the ratings only because it didn’t give me the option of 0.
The hotel is dirty, flies on the food, rats in the grounds.
My wife and I were both ill from the poor food hygiene as were many other guests. We actually ended up on IV drips in the local clinic.
The travel company, Odyssey/Olympic are not accepting any responsibility and are denying a problem with the hotel!!!!
The in resort rep was rude and unsympathetic.
DO NOT GO THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We arrived on Saturday evening and...

Feb 2005, Mrs J Pearse

We arrived on Saturday evening and were dealt with very quickly and shown to our room. The room was very pleasant and very clean. We reported a fault with water dripping from the lighting by the door to reception on Sunday morning (after the leg on the bed had fallen off in the middle of the night frightening us half to death) I was told the leak would be fixed or we would be moved.
Couldn’t ask for more than that, so I thought. I reported it again Sunday evening, Monday morning and Monday evening. Eventually someone came and mopped it up. Tuesday morning it was leaking again so I reported it and kept reporting it until sat am ,someone came while we were out and had fixed the leak, no water.
Come Monday we had water again I looked up to discover that a plastic tub had been put up inside the ceiling to catch the water and was now full and over flowing. By now my husband was very ill and the doctor had been out and put him on a drip, he had s and d and a temp of 102 not that anyone in the hotel seemed too concerned. Tuesday I had a phone call from a lady who was the customer relation’s officer. Yes it only took 9 days for her to contact me after the rep had spoken to her. She then offered to move us by now my husband was in no fit state to move.
The fault had been reported to her saying a pipe had burst and was not fixable until our room and the room above were vacant. We agreed to move down the corridor the next day, only to discover a new couple were put in our room straight away. my husband had just spent a week in that room being violently ill and within 20-30 minutes another couple had been moved into our room and the leak hadn’t been fixed.
The food was very poor unless you are happy with rice, chicken, pizza and pork every night, and enjoyed queuing for 10/20 mins every mealtime. We went without food from the restraunts from tues lunch time until fri morning as it got too stressful to explain every meal time that I needed to take food up to the room as my husband couldn’t get out of bed. We were offered no help from staff while my husband was ill.
There is very little to do here the bars on site are not suitable for sitting around for a drink as 2 are located in eating areas and people are waiting for tables to eat at. We were in our room by 8.00 every night.
We just wanted to get home.
I would not return here ever again and think the rating should be reviewed.

Booked this holiday a year in advance...
7 / 10
Sep 2003, Mr David Ramsay

Booked this holiday a year in advance for myself and my other half as it worked out to be one of the cheaper options. Paid just over £1400 for 2 weeks and for the price paid it was well worth it!
Arrived to a spotless, very large reception area where we were shown to our rooms quite quickly. Rooms had 2 double beds, Air Con (which was a blessing although slightly noisy but nothing to complain about) and balcony. Rooms were cleaned everyday and were spotless. Had problem with a couple LARGE cockroaches a few days into the holiday; they’d been living in the drawer under the TV but on reporting it to reception someone arrived within 5 minutes and dealt with them and we were then even offered another room but declined....no further problems after that.
The hotel tries to do a different theme night every night in the restraunts i.e. Mexican, Chinese, American etc and for the two weeks we were there it was different every night and there was no waiting in line for food. The only thing I would say is the snacks that are served daily (BBQ and biscuits) are only served at one pool to the east of the resort and no one tells you this so its a case of look and find ( its also the quietest pool). The A la Carte restraunts in also very nice and makes a nice change to be waited on. There are two restraunts that do the buffet meals I would recommend you eat at the one next to reception....much nicer environment.
Plenty of selection re:- drinks (alcoholic and non) but I would recommend if you ask for an alcoholic drink specify how much alcohol you would like in it as more often than not a single shot = 3 large shots at this resort so it does taste more like pure alcohol than a normal whisky and coke and so on.
Staff are friendly and the beach is very clean and nice to relax on although the waves are high and powerful (but the brochure did state this)
There are plenty of taxis outside the hotel which are more than happy to take you to cabaret for shopping and it is cheap....a bonus is you don’t need to pay them if you tell them to come collect you at a certain time then you pay back at the hotel (no need to worry bout getting deserted)
All in all a nice holiday for relaxing. If you want a nice cheap relaxing holiday with good food I would say book it.
Ps.... The rooms have cable TV but the only English-speaking channel is C&N so don’t count on watching a movie at night.
