I enjoyed my stay in this hotel the public rooms are wonderful good food garden area passable. The range of spa and medical treatments, impressive. And very reasonable in price. My only negative thoughts concern the bedrooms, this majestic building was built in the sixties as a place for eastern block workers to have a break and the resort was added on later, the bedrooms need to be of a more modern standard. The double glazing is shot. But 17 floors is going to be a major undertaking. If you go with an open mind and appreciate its ambiance .I think you will enjoy a stay in this hotel.

We have been to Albena for a number of years and this has to be the worst holiday ever!
The aeroplane (an old Russian Topelov) had faulty seat belts and when pointed out to the cabin crew the response was “is OK, don’t worry”! This was on both the out and inbound flights! They had to use the demonstration belts to hook us to each other. The toilet door constantly jammed and many passengers were visibly annoyed with the standard of the plane
The Dobruja Hotel is the largest in the resort and we had promised that one day, we would book into this hotel. Now we wish we hadn’t bothered and on speaking to others in the hotel this seems to be the opinion of most British guests
The room looked clean, beds were spotless, and however the room and toilets were badly in need of a coat of paint. This also applied to the corridors, stairways and most interiors outwith the general public view.
The toilets were stinking with the overpowering smell of dampness and poor ventilation.
The dining room staff were surly, unhelpful and the food quality was naff!
We were on the “Spice of Life” programme which gave extra perks such as “Free Use of the Pool”, this only meant you could swim, if you wanted to lie around the pool you had to pay for the beds and umbrella!
If you are ever thinking of going to the Dobruja, take our advice, don’t bother!

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel Dobrudza and Albena.

It was the perfect place for me to propose to my fiancée. However, two months previously, I had booked my room with BeachBulgaria.

Not only could they not run my credit card due to a problem on their end, they waited all that time until I was on the plane to Albena to email me that I had no reservation, and I found out after a 26 hour flight at 10:00 pm, and it cost me an extra $300 US for my apartment. I would never use them again.<br>

The hotel looked ok from the ground floor but we where soon helped or forced (depending how you look at it) from our bags by the porter who then ask for money for the simple trip up the lift and across the hallway(and watch out he wont like you under-tipping him).
Entering the room was like stepping out of Dr Who's Tardis (1980's style), it was clean but old and in desperate need of renovation(ignore the brochure room pics, the renovated 14th floor rooms are the only ones that will look like this.) The first room they gave us stank badly of smoke or something and we asked to be moved which they kindly did.
The TV showed German channels mainly with BBC World being the only English- it had a clear reception. Half of the hotel didn't have balconies so we didn't have one which upset my girl friend, but I was ok with this. The mini bar was stocked at the start of the holiday but never became replenished. The air con unit was good.
The food was ok, there was a large selection and it was well cooked but mostly very fatty. The fat award winner being fried, battered cheese (you put on a stone just looking at it!).
The spotless indoor and outdoor pool and the cafe on the 15th floor were the best features of this hotel and I'd say go and visit the cafe even if your not stopping here as it has fantastic views of Albena's beaches.
Albena's beach is very nice, the water's shallow up to a long way out. The sand is fine and without stones or rocks. You will have to pay for an umbrella and sun lounge here and cost depends on what you do and don't want- i.e. just the umbrella is 6 lv, the whole lot will cost you about ten pounds for the days hire.
The problem I had with Albena was outside the hotel, and it was with the ignorant waiting staff that seemed to work in every bar. They had long, miserable faces that only smiled when you gave them a large tip. Most of the time they hate coming over after you have eaten your food and drank your beer because they don't want you to leave their bar. So they ignore you and leave you sitting there for anything up to fifteen minutes while they casually chat away to one another. My advice is come away from the main road and go onto the beach where there are some nice beach bars that have better service. I would recommend 'The beer house' its cheap and a lot more cheerful, the waitress actually smiles! You get to it by going to the beach and turning left all the way to the end.
To be honest the hotel wasn't too bad considering, but for the price you would be better off looking around at the others first, and i saw some very nice ones around including newly built ones.
MY rating is for the hotel, the airline was more like a 1 out of 10. My comment to sum up the Hotel Dobruja is-4 star? NO WAY!
