Paradise is an understatement
Like most others, we went to Kuredu for our honeymoon and what a great choice we made. We decided not to let expense get in the way so we upgraded eveything. Premium class flights ensured we checked-in first. We were on the first seaplane to the resort (only had to wait 25 minutes before we were airborne - result!!) and stayed in a water villa. What a feeling waking up, opening the doors and jumpng off the sun deck into the Indian Ocean!!! Weather good, had some rain, but hey, we did go in monsoon season... Food was great, different choice every night, all activities good value and staff were excellent throughout the 2 weeks we were there. Make sure u pack plenty of sun cream as stocks in the shop tend to run out quickly. Bring your own snorkel gear as $10 a day adds up. Mozzie repellent handy. Got bitten only once on last evening while playing golf. (My own fault for playing so late I suppose) Spare footie tops for the Room Boy as well as plenty of $ for tips. Also you can never bring too many CDs...
Paradise on Earth - Review & Tips
Kuredu Island Resort is quite simply heaven on earth - and I'm not being paid to write this report for the Maldivian Tourist Board - I went there for my honeymoon and me and my wife loved it! The beaches are fantastic... The water is crystal clear... the marine life is second to none (I regularly swam with Turtles, Rays, Eels, Sharks - all harmless but beautiful)... the food is fantastic catering for all tastes and vegetarians... the villas are perfect... 10/10 - I'd go there every year if I could afford it! So - Here are my helpful Tips... 1. The Beach Villas / Jacuzzi Villas are the best accommodation on the island. The beach bungalows are no way near as nice as the beach villas and the water villas don't have their own beach. 2. Try and stay in Beach / Jacuzzi Villas numbers 100 - 150 for the best side of the island with the calmest waters and best beach front. 3. Take a torch for your evening strolls. 4. You really don't need shoes as theirs sand EVERYWHERE. But take trainers for the tennis / gym. 5. Give nice tips ($5) to your villa cleaner / waiter as soon as you arrive to get excellent service - common sense really. 6. Try to take your own snorkel / mask and fins - as you'll want to use them everyday and renting is about $10 per day for all this gear. 7. Go to the Spa for treatments. The average price per person is $60. But just the basic 30min back/shoulder massage for $40 is fantastic and great value! 8. Take loads of insect repellent / sparys / plug-ins. There isn't a real problem on the island - but just one bite a day can have you itching like mad! 9. The TV room shows live Premiership football games and Cricket - "COME ON ENGLAND!" 10. The staff are all really friendly - just ask them a question and they'll happilly help you out 11. - FINALLY - AND MOST IMPORTANTLY ... TAKE THE SEA PLANE! For the love of god you really do NOT want to take the 5 / 6 hour boat. Its not a luxiorius speed boat as the kuredu website suggests - its a huge diesel vessel that arrives much later than the plane. And when you are departing (going home) it leaves at 2am in the morning - whereas the planes leave at a more civilised 7am. - But remember - the boats take all your lugguage so keep a pair of swimming trunks on your hand lugguage as you'll want to jump into the heavenly sea once you arrive - I promise! HAVE FUN YOU LUCKY LUCKY SWINES!
Perfect paradise in every way! A real treat!!!
Have just returned from Kuredu today. When you first get to the island you get a little booklet saying "Welcome to Paradise" and it was absolutely spot on. When I first got off the sea plane (which was an amazing experience in itself and the only good thing about going home), we were both speechless. It is beautiful. We stayed in a jacuzzi beach villa and had acccess to the Sangu resort which was much more peaceful, romantic (and service and food was of a much higher quality than the main resort in general). You have your own waiter and can choose whether you would like to sit inside or out.. The room itself was a dream - your own open air bathroom, his and hers sinks and the back decked area with jacuzzi and outdoor lounging bed area. Perfect. There was so much to do on the island which had abouit 350 rooms, yet you often never saw a soul walking around or in the sea so you really did have the best of both worlds. The golf was excellent, the sea was amazing for snorkelling - saw manta rays, reef sharks, turtles all just around the island. We had an fantastic couples massage - highly recommend and also splashed out on a candle-lit dinner on the beach on our own - it really was the best meal we have ever had in our lives. To sum up - a top quality place. Everyone we met said the same and nobody could think of a single complaint. So what are you waiting for - book now!!! enjoy!
Jacuzzi heaven!!
Me and my husband went to Kuredu for our honeymoon and WOW. I cant believe its only 3star! Everything was so natural, even the sunbeds were wooden!! I will try and review every bit of our stay: Arrival: Lovely drink and ice cream in the exclusive reception in Sangu. Bit disappointed cos we got down graded for 2 nights from our jacuzzi villa but we got a free couples massage and excursion (totally worth it) and once i saw the normal beach villas i cheered right up! They are GORGEOUS. The views are incredible!! Rooms: Definately worth getting at least a beach villa but i fully reccomend jacuzzi villas!!!! not only do you get a jacuzzi (great if it rains) and private decking area but also access to the exclusive end of the island! ps: we loved the GENIUS bowl of water outside the villa to get rid of sand as you walk in!! Food: Great, we had a BBQ on the beach one night and every night there is food at the grill which they cook fresh. Salads delish and we never got ill once. You get the same waiter all week and people tended to tip on the last night around $30 ish. Beach: all i can say is WOW. that says it. Pool: lovely but when you have a patch of beach and turquoise water outside your door you dont need it! Entertainment: Fab, its so quiet in the day but loads to do if you want to go find it, evening themes quite calm but fun if you get chatting to other couples. we met a great couple and had fun dancing on romance night to our first dance tunes!! Oh and finally Spa- great! reccomend the couples massage, really nice!!! So all in all, this place is great and wish we had stayed longer than a week!
Paradise
We have recently returned from Kuredu Island Resort and have had the best holiday ever. I had booked the holiday as a surprise for my girlfriend's birthday and had high expectations. I had paid for an upgrade to the Sangu Water Villa (well worth the extra) as the Sangu restaurant and bar are superb. The food was excellent with a different themed night every night. The staff are excellent and very firendly. On the day of my girlfriends birthday our waiter arranged for a birthday cake for her (off his own back) and the room boy made the bed up especially with flowers (again off his own back). The island itself is beautiful, the snorkelling is great (lots to see under the water) and you don't need to swim far to see it. I'd recommend this place to anyone as it really is as close to paradise as you can get.
Pardise Found!
I went to Kuredu april 2005, it was amazing. I have been to the maldives before and this was far better then some higher rated hotels. We stayed in the beach bungalows the first week and then the beach villas the second week, although there is nothing wrong with the bungalows if you can upgrade I would recommend it because the villas are amazing with a four poster bed and lovely outdoor bathroom. As for the island, it was beautiful, and always clean. The sand is what you'd expect at the maldives, white like talc. I have read reviews of people saying this island is crowded, i didn't really think so. Yes, its a very big island (about an hour to walk around) but you could always find a nice quiet spot where you could be completely alone. I actually loved the fact it was a bigger island, you didn't go stir crazy with nothing to do and it had a lovely friendy atmosphere. Food the food was great, on the AI package you did have to stay in the one main resturant, you have the same table and waiter every night, but I found this is pretty standard with all maldivian islands. The food was buffet with different themed nights. But it certainly wasn't typical buffet food, every morning there was a wide selction, of pastries, eggs, pancakes, you could have a full english breakfast!, dinner and lunch, you could get steak, wide selection of fish dishes, pasta, salad, french fries.. you couldn't complain. The only thing I would perhaps complain about is the AI drinks package it was a bit limited, you got your draft beers, and your spirits. Bottle water you needed to pay for (about $1.50) and mini bar isnt all inclusive which seemed strange because it only had in it the food that was all inclusive at the main bars. Diving/snorkling the pro divers were very organised and there is an abundence of marine life. I went diving with reef sharks, turtles, manta rays, eels. fantastic. Three best dive spots was the kuredu express, for sharks, the caves, for turtles and there is a great wreck dive about 15mins by boat. The house reef is pretty good, there is a wreck about half way along, went snorkling every day and often saw turtles and eels. Trips If you go on any trip go onthe britt trip (luxury sailing) it was $90 for all whole day sailing. 10 max go on the boat and you have a great crew and have a lunch included. The crew ask you where you want to go we went snorkling on the wreck and then went to the desert island, the snorkling on a sunken island. The best part of the day is they take you to a spot for dolphin spotting, saw at least 15 dolphins who came right to the front of the boat, I'll never forget the experience Basically, Kuredu was an amazing holiday so good were going next year, the staff were brilliant, the weather and location amazing, you could go diving, golfing, relax in the spa or do nothing at all but sit back and have a brilliant holiday
out of this world
I spent two weeks at this fab Island. i took to many clothes and far two many shoes is has a no shoes no news policy on the island so take a pair of flip flops if you really want to. The staff are great expect to tip at least $15 a week for your waiter and $15 for your room boy and only take u.s dollers because they do not except anything else. It is very expensive in the maldives so unless you dont have to worry about money i would always go all inclusive. It was the best trip of my life and me and my husband have both done a bit of backpacking and i could not of asked for a better honeymoon.
Fantastic honeymoon in Kuredu...would love to go back
Myself and my new husband spent 11 nights in Kuredu in Sept 04 on our honeymoon. All I can say is that we had an amazing time....it was everything I had ever imagined and more. We stayed in a watervilla and to watch the sealife go by in the clear blue waters was amazing and to be able to just pop down the ladder into the ocean for a spot of snorklling was even better! The food was good. We ate in the Sangu restaurant most nights and the presentation and selection is great. The chefs doing the display cooking were always so pleasant and cheerful and made fabulous food. We spent many an evening drinking in the Sangu bar.....I cannot rate the staff there highly enough. After a couple of days they would see us coming towards the bar and have our drinks ready nearly before we sat down!!! They were so much fun and service was brilliant. We had a his and hers massage in the Spa......WOW! is all I can say and then had champagne delivered to our room to watch the sun set. I can honestly say that I will never forget that experience - out of this world. Anyone thinking of going do not stop to even think about it....just go for it. You will have the time of your life.
.....Absolute Paradise
We visited Kuredu in April 2004, and were pleased to discover that after nearly 18hrs of travelling to get there, it was all we expected and more. The welcome was warm and the check in process quick. We relaxed on the beach, exhausted from the journey for the rest the day, and we felt like the luckiest people in the world being able to enjoy such beauty that surrounded us. The water was so warm, clear and fantactic for snorkelling on he reef, but in 40 degree heat, not that refreshing. We were staying in a beach villa on the north east side of the island, about a 10min walk down the beach to the pool and the restaurant, but it was so peacful there, we could be lying on the sand and not see anyone walk past for half hr or more. It felt like we were the only people on the island at times. The all inclusive food at the restaurant was basic, but thre was someting to suit all tastes. The food was the only down side to the holiday. We grew bored of it by about the 4th day. It was very much the same for lunch and dinner. Apart from that, the service was top notch. We had the same waiter for breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for the whole trip and we became very fond of him. Make sure you tip the waiters well, they work so hard and for very little pay! We took a walk around the island one afternoon, and were suprised to discover it was much bigger than we had first imagined. It took us about an hr and I used up a whole roll of film taking photographs! The pool area was lovely, close to the restaurants, with it's own bar area and set above the beach on decking. This end of the island was slightly noisier because you are very near to the jetty where the sea planes are taking of and landing ever so often. If you do ever visit Kuredu, this piece of advice applies mainly to the ladies, don't do what I did and cram your suitcases full with shoes - you sipmly won't need them. The Island has a 'no shoes' policy. even at dinner you are not expected to wear them. Everywhere is sand! I think I took off the shoes I was travelling in when I arrived and didn't wear anpther pair untill I left the Island. So, if you considering Kuredu, I would highly recommend it to anybody who enjoys first class service and being in beautifull surroundings - you won't find anything else like this island - it's so unique.
Want to go back
Have been to Kuredu twice - Dec 2000 and Dec 2004 - for Christmas and New Year. Had an excellant time on both holidays. The first time we went pre refurbiushment. The 2nd time we stayed in the Sangu end - this really suited us as although it was peak season, this end of the island was very quiet and peaceful. We were still able to go up to the centre and main area of the resort if we wanted more activity and to see more people. Could sit and hardly see anyone all day. NO NOISY MUSIC! The pool area was busier as it is the main part of the island, has a pool bar and attracts lots of people! it was still pleasant enough here and we always could get a bed if we wanted too but if we wanted peace and quiet we stayed on the beach - very uncrowded! In the Sangu restautant you do not have to share tables and although you have the same waiter you can sit on which ever table you want to at each meal. Our holiday was excellant - food, service, accomodation etc - no complaints at all. Can't wait to go back! Tips - 1)pack some clothes in your hand luggage as your case comes later than you if you go on the seaplace 2)take some dollars for tips 3)take the seaplane not the boat 4)if you have a beach villa ask for one in 100s - nice beach and not too far from facilities.
