Good value at Flamenco hotel
I have been travelling to Egypt for business for 2 years. I stay most of the time at the Flamenco hotel. I usually stay anywhere from 2-3 weeks. Sometimes I will stay at Cario Kahn downtown. The rooms are a hit or miss - some are better than others. But all rooms are dark with heavy curtain and dark patterns. The best rooms face the Nile. Breakfast is pretty food but the location is Zamalek is the best - it is across from a really good internet, hair salon. Mc D's, Pizza hut and kebab restaurants are all very close by. The hotel... more
out of terrorist bomber's cross hairs
With terrorist activity aiming at American marque brand hotels around the Middle East, we booked this 12-story, 130-room hotel in the Golden Tulip chain of hotels. Our reservation was for an executive suite with Nile view, however, on arrival we were assigned a room looking onto the facade of a tall apartment building across the street. As an alternative, we were offered a superior room with partial Nile view and were then moved into an executive room with full Nil view the next morning. The front desk staff remained unruffled and pleasant,... more
No AC at the Flamenco Hotel !!
We stayed at the Flamenco Hotel in Cairo on April ,2007 Good points of hotel = Great Location, internet cafe just across the street, Minimarket just across the street, and McDonals and Pizza Hut on the corner. Some rooms have a nice view to the Nile. Breakfast is good but normal. Old rooms and furniture , but very clean. Bad points = Air conditioner did not work!! This is terrible in Cairo even in April. We asked in reception and was explained that the AC had failed last week, but during our 5 nights never worked. Option... more
quite and comfortable with good breakfast
Stayed in this hotel for couple of days and then returned back to it after going to Luxor. The hotel is a bit outdated, but it's comfortable reasonably clean and it has a pretty good breakfast buffet. The best part about it, is that it's quite and yet central to everything. The hotel has a very nice taxi driver, Said. On the way to the airport he took me to a few spot. I left all my belongings in his car while I wondered off for half an hour or so. He was very nice and the best part about it he had a copy of tripadvisor... more
Unique, but not for everyone
I stayed at this hotel for business. This place has its charms and it is very popular among business travelers in the non-profit sector. It is a small hotel with good service. The lobby and bar are great and breakfast is decent. The rooms are run down but in a charming way. Furniture is old but not shabby. This hotel has character! Not one of these mega hotels which you find throughout Cairo with the tourist buses pulling up. Here you are treated like a client not a cow being hoarded to the pyramids. I would strongly recommend this hotel if... more
Clean but dated
Worth $65 but no way $130. The Flamenco on Zamalek Island is a tired 4 star hotel with outdated dark furniture and somewhat dated bathrooms. It is worth adding that it is a clean and tidy hotel which is a bonus in Cairo. It is taxi distance (£10Egt) from Tahrir Square and the Museum. Breakfast is OK but no way 4 star. We stayed in this hotel on two separate occasion. The first occasion We got it through an agent in Cairo at $64. The room was very large, clean and comfortable but was straight out of the 70s/80s. It had a Nile... more
4 Nights at the Flamenco
We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of November / beginning of December. We had a Nile View room which was really nice - in regards to the Zamalek area, the location is very good. Right next to the Corniche, opposite the supermarket and Internet Cafe, and minutes away from Zamalek's main restaurants. The breakfast is also nice and varied, with a nice selection to choose from. The staff are fairly friendly and helpful. For the price that you pay though, it is not the best value for money. The rooms are only OK, many of the appliances are... more
Do Not Recommend
Overall -- very bad experience with this hotel. First, the room and other amenities looked rundown. I don't know how this hotel got a 4-star rating, but it's AT MOST 2-3 star per US standard. My room had the smallest bathroom I saw in any hotel. Second, the hotel did not honor our booking through Orbitz.com. Third, hotel staff are not at all helpful. When we asked to see the manager, we were informed he's in a meeting (on a Sunday). We never got the chance to see any manager during our stay. Definitely do not want... more
Great hotel
We stayed in the Flamenco for three nights 4/2006. We were initially a bit worried as the only double bed they had available was on the second floor and not facing the Nile, and not wanting to spend time the following day moving rooms we decided to bear it. Fortunately it wasn't too bad an experience. The room themselves are as they look on the website- small, but comfortably furnished. Egypt hotels often seem to have a stench, but the Flamenco smelled fine, and was cleaned immaculately each day. The bed was comfortable after a long day... more
Good hotel, but in Zamalek
Stayed at the Flamenco hotel for 4 nights. First thing, the hotel is located in Zamalek, which is a sort of upper class area wih many embassies around. That means that the shopping opportunities are limited and what is available is typically expensive. You will need to take a taxi basically whenever you want to go out, although finding a taxi is no problem. I think a hotel with walking distance to downtown would be preferable for most tourists. There is McDonald and PizzaHut nearby and some other... more
