Basic, Stingey and unsafe policies
2 / 10
Sep 2011, Krusty

Pros:-
1. Excellent location
2. Clean
Cons:-
1. I was told off for having a plastic bottle of water by the pool - to me, disallowing water by the pool puts peoples' health at risk.
2. Towels are more like bath matts in size and texture
3. Only 1/4 of a slice of lime goes in drinks.
4. Puddings were fruit or sponge in some disguise EVERY NIGHT, even though yoghurt is always a choice at breakfast, this was not an option for desert.
5. Food choice was limited
6. Hotel info on board in reception, info on wall in lift, and information in room all give different times for meals.
7. The balcony was so tiny me and my partner had to squeeze past eachother every time we needed to go into our room.
8. No entertainment in the day or evening

Not that bad for a family run hotel
6 / 10
Oct 2009, kaine5

George and his staff at the Chrystalla are very friendly however i agree with other reviews that the standard of cleanliness and comfort do need improving, the rooms are basic beds are hard and towels need softener and only changed 5 times during 2 week stay, however considering this is a family run hotel which is unusual for a hotel this size we have had worse. The location is great just a small walk across the car park and your on Fig Tree Bay Beach 3 minutes at the most and this must be the best beach in Cyprus.
We have stayed in Protaras 3 times now and love it plenty of good restaurants the best being the Kaoullas Tavern which is operated by husband and wife who do all the waitering the food is excellent and with good portions we ate there 5 times in 2 weeks and found it to be the cheapest, an example is we had 3 course set meal for 4 of us with 2 clarafas of wine ( 2ltrs ) and the total came to 51 euros yes thats 51 for all 4 of us, this tavern is situated the opposite end of town to Macdonalds past the Diva Flambe and across the main road, talking about the Diva Flambe be warned they will try and add on 10 euro tip without your permission we caught them out but heard of other customers who experienced the same so be warned if paying by card CHECK YOUR TOTAL, also the portions are small and dissapointing, another GOOD restaurant is Promises in the centre of town.
Our favourite bar is La Pas cocktail bar 50 mtrs from the chrystalla friendly atmosphere good prices and you get a good laugh, we also liked The Bells, The Ghetto Bar and Fools and Horses, average price for cocktails was 3 euro and 2.50 euro for a pint of Keo.
Recommend the boat trips 3 hours at around 10 euro pp is good value also if you get chance hire a car and take a trip to the Troodos mountains absolutely breathtaking and while you are there visit the vineyards. Cape Greko is another must visit.
We arrived on the 4th October and left the 18th October and had sunshine every day and day temp not below 32c every day.
So we have had 3 holidays in Protaras and every one fantastic, in fact last year our daughter got married there 100% perfect.
So i have made this review as honest as I can and sure you will not be dissapointed, if you are going have a nice time.

Sep 2008, Mrs J Milward

I am totally disgusted at some of the comments made on this website about the Chrystalla Hotel. My husband and I have been visiting Protaras for 8 years now and go there at least twice a year. We have stayed in the top hotels in Protaras and I can honestly say that I would not swap the Chrystalla with any plush hotel. It is very clean, all the rooms are cleaned on a daily basis and they are cleaned to a high standard. I am very fussy about things like that. The hotel is 75m from the beach. I think the comments made by other people have been posted against the wrong hotel. It is in a prime location near shops, bars, chemists, bus stops and restaurants. The atmosphere is very good and that is mainly because of the wonderful staff and management - if you have a problem, nothing is too much trouble for them to sort out. They genuinly care about the guests. I go on holiday to relax and you will get total relaxation at the Chrystalla Hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and will visit it for as long as I am able to.

GREAT HOTEL!!! If you are looking...

Sep 2008, Mr L Williams

GREAT HOTEL!!!
If you are looking for a traditional Cypriot holiday then the Hotel Chrystalla is a must for you! There is no commercial element to this hotel, its run by a great Cypriot family who know how to look after their guests.
George can be very proud of what he has achieved with this hotel, the whole place is friendly, beach is just a short walk away, also the array of shops, bars and restaurants also nearby just add to the appeal of the Chrystalla. Yes the rooms are basic, but that adds to the appeal of the place to me, part of the idea of a holiday is to get away from the norm we have back home. I have never had a problem with the room not being clean, yes the satellite TV could be better but lets not forget it’s a holiday which means the Sun, sea and nightlife should me more than adequate for entertainment!!
The pool area of the hotel is relaxing, clean and supplies refreshments, good size pool whether your into swimming or just dipping in and out, child pool facilities are also available. The bar is very welcoming and traditional, very relaxing after a long day to sit out of an evening enjoying the calm sea air from the nearby Fig Tree Bay.
I would strongly recommend anyone that’s looking for a nice relaxing holiday surrounded by good friendly staff, with excellent beach and nearby entertainment to go to the Hotel Chrystalla. Its what Cyprus is all about no commercialism just traditional and welcoming!!

Sep 2008, Miss S Heraghty

We have just got back from a FANTASTIC time staying in the chrystalla hotel. The staff are all amazing, always had smiles on their faces and really seemed to enjoy working there - it really does feel like staying in a proper family run hotel. Fig Tree bay is the most gorgeous beach and is on the DOORSTEP of the hotel!! As a beach lover myself i could not of wanted or asked for a better location! The room was a standard hotel room which i never spent any time in anyway, why would i? everything was close enough for me just to saunter about into.
All in all we had an excellant time and cant wait to come back next year to recieve the excellant treatment the hotel has to offer to her repeat guests!!!!

Sep 2008, Mrs J Wright

Having accessed this website for the first time, I couldnt agree more with the comments made by the lady who has also just returned from Cyprus. Myself and my family also walked in and straight back out of the Chrystalla for the exact same reasons. Coincidentally, we also moved to a 4* hotel in Nissi Beach and had a great time.
The air conditioning was non-existent and the location certainly left a lot to be desired. My guess is prisoners have better rooms to sleep in!
To anyone else considering this hotel, please dont be fooled by the photos on the website - it must a very clever photographer is all I can say.
How this hotel could possibly obtain a 1* grading let alone 3* is beyond me.

If you are thinking of booking this...

Sep 2008, Miss L Jones

If you are thinking of booking this hotel AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!
In the brochures it says it situated 500metres from Fig Tree Bay Its miles away!
It says its air-conditoned if you call 30+ degrees air con all through the hotel there are windows smashed in the doors, it says it has satelitte tv it hasn't there are cockroaches everywhere.. They told us we would have 3 proper beds and a decent size room we had a double bed and a camp bed stuck at the end, the doors didnt lock properly. Sun beds were broken and it was next to what resembled a building site.
We walked in and checked out five minutes later, luckily we were able to book into a beautiful 4* hotel in Nissi beach, we couldn't believe the Chrystalla Hotel was a 3*. The Inspector must have been blind!

The Chrystalla Hotel overlooks Fig...

The Chrystalla Hotel overlooks Fig Tree Bay and is a great 80 Bedroom Family Run Hotel. It is worth specifying a sea view if you can (a few euros extra), and a fridge in your room (extra again).
It is not the Ritz, but has excellent facilities and a really lovely swimmining pool. The food is good (we had the B & B), with an excellent choice of cereals, hot and cold buffet, toast, juice, coffee etc., snacks by the pool and evening meals if you wish.
The beach is a five minute walk although we stuck around the pool. They have satellite t.v. (B.B.C. World), and have added an internet computer in the lobby (1 euro for 10 mins.)
You are at the quieter end of the strip, yet all the good restaurants are very close. Try the Olympia, Island Affair, Corner Restaurant, Nicholas Tavern.
We would return to the Chrystalla anytime!

I have just returned from a week stay...
7 / 10
Oct 2007, Mrs  Matthews

I have just returned from a week stay at this Hotel. I read all the comments before booking and I would like to report the following:
We paid a lot of money for this week's holiday, I am aware that this was probably because it was a school holiday week.
We loved the location of the hotel. There is no need for entertainment as there are plenty of bars offering that on the main drag. Previously we have had hotels with entertainment and arrived back after an evening out to find that it had finished. The hotel did have a bar though.
The hotel was very quiet, which we liked. If you wanted to escape this, just go along to where the bars and restaurants are for a livelier atmosphere. This way, everyone is a winner.
TV? Yes just one English station BUT do you really go on holiday to watch TV? There were music stations and so could have music if you wish.
The rooms do need updating and painting. However it is very clean. The bedding needs renewing and so do the towels but they have started some work on the ground floor and around the pool area. Perhaps they will continue round the hotel.
The staff were superb. They do not worry about cockroaches, it’s an every day occurrence for them, and I have an apartment in Spain. It’s quite regular to have a lizard appear in the bath, it goes with the territory.
The breakfast is adequate, though no fresh orange juice or anything that resembled it.
All in the entire hotel was very acceptable but I just felt we paid a lot for what we got.

With regards to the last comment on...
8 / 10
Oct 2005, Mrs T Wilde

With regards to the last comment on the Chrystalla hotel, I would just like to say that we have been to Cyprus for the past 4 years and stayed at the Chrystalla Hotel every time.
We think the hotel is great and the people there are wonderful.
It is quiet there but at the end of the day your holiday is what you make it and we prefer it to be quiet, we are a young couple and for 2 weeks that’s what we want.
We are not the clubbing kind and you don’t need to go to Ayia Napa there are plenty of bars etc on the main strip.
The food at the Chrystalla is really nice, and there is nothing wrong with the breakfasts at all. There is no need to have a "bar" at the hotel as there are plenty again along the main strip.
We can’t wait to go again in October and then we have already booked up to go again next June.
