Baros Island Reviews
" We had the best holiday of our lives... "
Submitted By: Mrs A L Clark
We had the best holiday of our lives in Baros. This resort is perfect for honeymooners, couples who want a relaxing and peaceful holiday or for those who like to dive. The island takes about 12 minutes to walk around, the sea is turquoise and the skies blue. The resort has recently been refurbished and the water bungalows are divine with their 4 poster bed, huge bath for two, great minibar and flat screen TVs! The sundeck day beds aren't as private as they make out though as people can see you from the walkway.
We stayed in a gorgeous deluxe beach villa with a private outside bath and shower and it was so romantic. The rooms were cleaned twice a day and they even turned the bed down for you at night! In the morning I would sit on the day bed on the terrace and just listen to the waves which were a few steps away from me. We went in the rainy season and had 2 rainy days but didn't get bored once. In fact it was a good time to go because we were two of only 16 people there!
If you are worried about getting bored then there are island hopping trips available, diving courses and plenty of snorkeling opportunities or you could just take a good book.
I have to say that from the minute we arrived at the airport in Male, Universal Resorts staff gave excellent service. The speedboat ride was great and when we arrived at Baros we were greeted with sparkling wine, filled out just one short form and were shown to our villa. The staff were so friendly, especially the breakfast staff and waiters. The breakfasts were delicious and there was so much to choose from, I must have put about half a stone on from all the waffles I ate! As we were celebrating our joint 1st wedding anniversary and the honeymoon we didn't have, Baros made our anniversary night dinner very special and even gave us an anniversary heart shaped cake.
We didn't go all inclusive because I didn't want to eat at the same restaurant every night but to be honest I wish we had as we ended up at that restaurant most nights anyway!!! Prices are similar to that of the UK, alcohol is expensive but not as bad as Dubai and the food was divine and a good variety to choose from. In the week we were there, eating out every night and including a bottle of wine and say 6 drinks a night and also including the basic diving course we did, we spent approx £1,000.00
Although an expensive holiday we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely recommend it. We will be going back there on our 5th anniversary.

" We had the most amazingly romantic... "

We had the most amazingly romantic holiday. It was totally idyllic! The island gave us a feeling of being alone, as everyone had their own beach area and the huts were cleverly staggered. The food and service was fantastic.
This year we are getting married and I have to say we have already had our honeymoon... on Baros! It was due to be refurbished in 2005: I just hope it has remained such a beautiful location for a totally relaxing and energizing holiday.

I did have one moan though. we did have a couple from the next hut along come and use our private beach. I dont think they understood how it worked. The funny thing is that they had they own bit but they chose to use ours. yeah i know, very perculiar.
anyway back to to paradise. Stunning turquiose water, good food and superb service. Also enjoyed wildlife. Had Herons running around whilst sitting on the varandar reading and every evening a plethora of different fish would come in to get fed. From reef shark to stingrays.
aboutsolutely idyllic. Wish I was there now
