Dissapointed stay at Dome 20th-30thMar2011
4 / 10
Mar 2011, Manuel

Room with Sea view overlooked Pool area under renovation, work rate very slow, may be ready for Christmas.
Skirting board 3" away from wall made opening sliding door to bathroom difficult! Complained 3 times before finding Cockroach in bathroom got some Action.
Food generally uninspiring!
No bacon at breakfast, only available with "Full English Breakfast" at18 Turkish Lire extra!
Weird Soup ie Rice and Youghert!
Only fish was Fried in batter which re-appeared every night!
Sausage cut into 1"lengths.
Potatoes always cut into segments and roasted.
Turkish Wine expensive 35TL per bottle.
Most staff have poor command of English.
Although No Smoking, some public rooms smelt of smoke, Suspect some staff smoked on duty!
Hotel generally Tired and in need of Strong Management to put it back on track.
Grossly Overpriced!!!

The hotel is well placed close to...
5 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr M Gubby

The hotel is well placed close to Kyrenia Harbour and the town. It has a faded elegance but it hardly deserves its 4star rating. Breakfasts are poor and uninspiring and those on half board reported that the lunchtime and evening meals were much the same. Tales from residents who had to seek room changes abound. Rooms are often small and sparsely furnished and the bathroom fittings are old and malfunctioning. We had constant problems with the water supply as did most others. When we had hot water there was no cold - and when we had cold water there was no hot. The safe in our room had to be replaced.
The pool area is well laid out and the beds and chairs were comfortable. There are many well designed areas for seeking shade from the heat of the sun. But service from the bar staff was intermittent and the prices for drinks and snacks were very high.
All in all poor value for money - we would never recommend the hotel to our friends

Aug 2008, Mrs D V D''Abrera

Had yet another fantastic holiday at the Dome Hotel in Kyrenia. Staff all remembered us from our last visit and welcomed us with open arms. Nothing changes at this hotel and this is part of its old world charm. If you want a peaceful, calm, relaxing holiday there is nowhere better to experience it.
The hotel's central position is absolutely great. Minutes walk to the beautiful harbour where you can dine at any time of day, or pick up a boat trip along the coast with a fabulous meal cooked on board. The local shops have anything you may need and there are plenty of bars where you can stop for a morning coffee/snack, or in my husband's, a cooling Efes.
Plenty of lovely restaurants within easy reach. We always go on a bed and breakfast board basis, so that we can sample the delights of the local eateries. You must eat at Niazis, the Padisah Garden, The Verandha and Bellapaise Abbey. All lovely and reasonably priced too.
The local bus will take you to Escape Beach, where you have to pay, but it is kept beautifully clean and there is waiter service on the beach if you want snacks or drinks brought to you. Or, you can go up the restaurant for a light lunch.
Everyone should try a holiday in Northern Cyprus - it is unspoilt and a real holiday!

Agree with every post so far! Loved staying at the Dome - the gentile atmosphere reminded us of the old Savoy in Madeira. The location is absolutely glorious, and we loved being able to stroll down to the harbour for dinner without having to worry about catching a taxi back. Very much enjoyed the rock pools - much more character than the normal hotel pool.
The Dome is a taste of old-world comfort in a rapidly changing North Cyprus, not for those who love bright lights and late nights, but wonderful for those who prefer good service and good food, served with a smile and a minimum of fuss. The slightly faded decor in some areas is being revamped, which should lift the hotel in my eyes from an 8 rating to a 9.
We booked the hotel through www.dome-cyprus.com with no problems and then booked our flights from Stansted to Ercan ourselves. Even with the cost of a taxi transfer from Ercan, we saved quite a lot on published UK brochure prices. Would definitely go again next time we are in North Cyprus, which hopefully won't be too long!

What a delight, lovely room with sea view, wonderful staff and great food. Very central with so many things to hand the staff could not be more helpful. The surrounding shops sell every thing you need including the best copies you will find anywhere. We are returning this October and will be settling on the island soon. Keep up the good work.

Jul 2007, Mrs D V D'Abrera

We love the Dome Hotel in Kyrenia. It is in the best position ever - on a promontory sticking out into the sea. There is a sea water pool as well as the normal pool.
Have only ever stayed for bed and breakfast and believe me there is plenty to choose from.
The hotel staff are excellent. The hotel is a bit old and dated but is loved by people who were stationed in Cyprus with the forces. It's a bit "old-school", but that's what we love about it.
It's a couple of minutes walk from the picturesque harbour where you can get a fabulous meal at any time of day. It is so beautiful at night time - very romantic.
A bus to the beach will find you some of the most fabulous places and warm water to swim and snorkel in.
You can't beat it!

We just love the Dome Hotel. I have been there 4 times and it is the only hotel in Cyprus that I would go to again and again and again.
It may not be the smartest, but it has a fantastic position and that in itself is worth everything.
If you want a beach, take the bus along to Escape Beach - a few miles West of Kyrenia - it's beautiful. But if you just want to loll around at the hotel, and eat out in the evening, you couldn't want for more.
A short stroll to the harbour, where there are more restaurants than you could ever need, or a trip up to Bellapais to eat amongst the bats in the evening is glorious.
As I said before - we just love everything about it!

Direct Holidays take you directly...

Sep 2005, Mr Rogan Meadows

Direct Holidays take you directly into S Cyprus, then transport you to your hotel in North. This worked wonderfully easily and comfortably, both ways.
The Dome Hotel is in the very centre of Kyrenia, less than 5 minutes level stroll from the harbour with its wall to wall restaurants. We booked a sea view suite and got a large room with kingsize double and single bed, 2 seater sofa, two armchairs, fridge/mini bar and reasonable balcony with 2 chairs and a table looking west down the coast and over the sea. We had one bathroom with bath, shower and washbasin, and second large room with toilet and washbasin.
From what I could observe the width of balconies got narrower the higher the floor you were on. Thus, a ground floor, sea view suite is probably the best.
Breakfast at The Dome is not for those wanting a “full English”, but is OK. Because of its central position eating out in the evening is recommended. There are two very good restaurants just across the road, loads around the harbour and, if you can find it, The Sanctuary tucked away behind the church, just back from the sea front between the Dome and the harbour. The Sanctuary is in a delightful ancient building and is run by an Englishman offering a good, limited menu. Well worth at least one visit!
However, the best dining experience is at Belapaise Abbey. Set high on the mountain side in a glorious setting with magnificent views, we found the food to be the best we sampled. Whilst a few miles from The Dome you can ring and book and they will collect and return you to the hotel. All round 1st class experience.
Undoubtedly The Domes central setting aligned with its fresh and salt water swimming pools are its major attraction. It has very pleasant terraces looking out to sea on which to enjoy a sun (or moon!) downer, attentive staff, and a casino if that’s your want. For beginners at snorkelling the sea water pool is splendid. Sea water enters and leaves through a number of accesses meaning that there are many small fish in the pool itself. For those more proficient there is easy access via steps to the sea where even more fish can be observed and, when we were there, people were snorkelling on a regular and prolonged ( 60 minutes at a time) basis alongside turtles that come ashore some miles up the coast to lay their eggs earlier in the year. When we were there there was adequate space for sunbathing around the pools and the service from the pool bar kept us fed and watered during the day. Plenty of umbrellas or awnings for those wanting respite from the Sun.
Whilst The Dome may not be the best hotel in Kyrenia, or around, it has the advantage over all others of central position in town aligned with sea front pools and sunbathing areas. It does not have a beach that others, more remote, along the coast have. For us, it was what we expected and exactly what we wanted.
