My wife and I have just returned from a 7 day break in The Colony which lived up to all we expected in respect of their advertised brochure. If you have any doubts from other reviews I can only say they were not found on our stay. The rooms, service, food, pool, bar, spar... more

It was our second visit to The Colony with my daughter and granddaughters aged 6 and 7. The hotel, room, staff and meals were as superb as the previous year. I did notice that the staff were over-stretched at breakfast and sometimes a table was not immediately available... more

This was or first visit to Northern Cyprus and we were delighted with the weather. The first thing we noticed was the amount of litter and abandoned building materials etc. The harbour in the resort is very picturesque but is spoiled by too many areas covered with bar and... more

The hotel public areas were impressive and very clean. the staff very friendly and helpful as befits a five star hotel however the bedrooms do not. The bathroom was of poor quality with a shower curtain around the bath and when the air conditioning was on, the curtain... more

My review may be a little late, but I have only just found this site. Our friends, my husband & my stay in Northern Cyprus (ours for the first time) was made by our stay at this truly 5* Hotel. I had been a little dubious about staying in a centrally located hotel rather... more

Lovely Hotel-Overpriced
The Colony is a true 5* Hotel for Kyrenia. The staff are excellent, friendly and attentive. Food is very good if overpriced as are the drinks. The rooms are nice but nothing exceptional. I am sure there are other hotels just as good and cheaper.
Great for Reluctant Sun-Bathers
Cyprus is obviously known for its Mediterranean locale evidenced by the plethora of beach resorts that dot the coast. But, if your idea of a vacation is not full-time sun-bathing then you'll probably enjoy the Colony as much as I did. It is located in the fishing village of Girne (also known as Kyrenia in Greek). The location allows you to really get to know this quaint little town -- the historic fort, the shopping district and restaurants along the marina. The rooms are a good size providing a comfy bed with down comforter and marble bath. The hotel has a fabulous roof deck with views from the mountains to the water. The deck offers not just a pool but also restaurant and disco. I was in town for a wedding and as someone who prefers to "walk" a city then be isolated at a resort this worked for me.
Great Hotel
We have recently returned from a 10 day stay at The Colony Hotel. This hotel is exactly as described in the brochure and I would say even better. The staff are professional but friendly and are willing to help with anything. I would strongly recommend that you take a day out and spent it on the roof pool which is lovely, peaceful and very relaxing, the lunch time food is great value and very good. The restaurant serves wonderful meals in the evening and certainly match any other 5 star hotel. There is a great selection of food for breakfast and the only criticism I have is that they should have a non smoking area in the restaurant especially at breakfast. A must at breakfast is to take time to meet Peter who used to be a Butler in the USA, he is the most interesting person I have met in a while and will take time out to tell your about Northern Cyprus and the best places to visit. The hotel is in a great location for walking into town and the area is very safe at night. Overall it was a very relaxing holiday and I would recommend to get past the long journey via Turkey, it is worth it.
A First Classs Hotel!
After a tedious journey via Turkey from England the arrival at this hotel, late at night was a very welcome surprise. Usually after a few days at a hotel you start to find the faults - with this hotel it just got better! The staff are professional but friendly and helpful. The restaurant food can only be described as 'excellent' - wide variety, well presented and good to eat. The only improvement we can suggest is that the management make a special effort to ensure that guests who have endured the long flight from England can obtain a proper evening meal - not just something from room service. We would be delighted to stay again but must admit that Kyrenia is getting less attractive and run down, with broken pavements, rubbish in the streets, tatty shops and cafes and scruffy taxis parked on the footpaths. In all a splendid, genuine first class hotel, well managed and maintained but Kyrenia could do with a good clean up and repair.
fantastic hotel
Stayed for 8 days at the "colony hotel" in the centre of girne I have to say that the hotel was excellent, the facilities plus the staff. Yes of course the bar is expensive together with the restaurant but it is a 5 star hotel so you shouldn't expect it to be cheap and there are plenty of excellent restaurants nearby. The rooms are serviced twice a day and were very clean and couldn't be faulted. The pool on the rooftop was good although the water was freezing!! Also the gym/jacuzzi area was a good facility and we took advantage of the massage which only cost 25 lira! Breakfast is included in the price and if you do stay here, you'll get to know peter very quickly - he's a brit in his late 60's who used to be a butler in the USA for years and has been living out in the TRNC for about 8 years. He basically runs the breakfast with military precision and is a mine of information fro places to eat/visit. The chef will cook anything (within reason) for breakfast eg pancakes, full english etc. The other staff are all very friendly as would expect and can't do enough to help. Even the security guard for the car park (who incidentally will also valet park your car if the hotel car park is full) came with an umbrella to walk us from the car to the hotel when the heavens opened for 24 hours!! We hired a car from sun rent a car over the internet and we had no problems at all - and improtantly they will come out to you if you breakdown in the middle of nowhere eg on the Karpaz peninsula. They were also quite reasonable (or so i think) - paid about 90 quid for 5 days with a brand new Suzuki Jimny convertible 4x4 (useful for climbing up the mountains) I think that october/november is a perfect time to visit as the weather, whilst still warm, allows you to see all the sites without getting heatstroke!!
Great hotel, but be warned Kryenia is traffic choked & over priced
Have just returned from a very relaxing week at the Colony Hotel in Kryenia. Though I can't fault the hotel, the town is straining with massive over development, traffic jams and wild dogs/cats. Aside from the pretty harbour, the town lacks any charm and in parts in very scruffy so don't believe what the brochures say! Outside the town you come across property development after property development which scare the countryside. The locals are destroying their environment and no doubt in years to come this will have a negative impact on tourism. Another concern i have is the high prices charged by restaurants. Don't be fooled by thinking you will get value for money here. Many of the restaurants we tried were actually higher than the UK! And with service standards that need to be improved. Overall the hotel was great and if you want a week in the sun North Cyprus is fine otherwise Spain and Italy offer a much better package in regards to accomadation, service, environment and things to do.
The Colony saved it!
7 days in Kyrenia was long enough. The expansion has killed this fishing village. locals were very friendly and only too keen to take your money - but this is no backwater. The traffic runs 18 hours a day and inflation has pushed up the prices. The harbour side candle lit restaurants turn into western party bars after 10pm... The colony is elegant and virtually perfect. Lovelly roof top bar and terrace. Very good menu...but try th restaurant over the road - past the petrol station and before the tyre centre (honsest) a quiet courtyard oasis..well recommended. Kyrenia wont be seeing my money again though...4/10 at best
SIMPLY THE BEST
Having watched The Colony Hotel gradually take shape on many earlier business and holiday trips to North Cyprus, as chairman of a UK holiday company, and a recognised tour operator to North Cyprus, I was intrigued and determined to experience a stay at the hotel. The opportunity arose earlier this year when I needed comfortable and prestigious accommodation whilst visiting the island to see our new baby granddaughter for the first time. I decided to ask one of our business partners, "Jewels of the World" to provide the package of flights, transfers and accommodation for my wife and myself. Excellent service courteously delivered, not least by the attentive and very well informed representative who was available in Kyrenia. Suffice it to say that it will certainly not be the last time that we stay at The Colony! The place reeks of quality. The ambience is relaxed, self-confident and classy. Nobody hassles you: we were very well cared for, comfortable and relaxed. The building is beautiful; the accommodation as spacious and comfortable as one would expect; staff are professional and clearly do care about the guests. Meals are a very pleasing experience: no pressure, unobtrusive professionalism allied to a degree of informality that is very welcoming. In central London the lifts would pass for comfortable apartments, and cost a fortune! I was impressed. Since February on other visits to the island I have "dropped in" to the hotel on several occasions, for a coffee, a drink or a business meeting. It is delightful to be welcomed with genuine warmth. In spite of having access, in the course of my work, to a great deal of quality accommodation, both in Europe and beyond, I will certainly happily forego the use of some of that to stay at The Colony. I loved it! PS. It was a bit too cold for me to try the beautiful rooftop pool in February - but on another occasion....PPS. No I do not own shares in the Heritage Group: I just love the place!
Great Hotel
Great hotel and location, however try to avoid top floor as the entertainment on the roof can keep you awake till the early hours!
Colony Hotel, Kyrenia
This 5 star hotel was simply amazing. My new husband and I stayed there for our honeymoon in July 2005. If you can ask for a rrom on the front with a larger balcony, which doesn't cost any extra. It is not a cheap place by any means and is probably the most expensive place to eat and drink in Kyrenia, but it is worth it. The food, drink, staff and rooms are all fantastic. It is situated right in the centre of Kyrenia a three minute walk from the harbour. The rroftop pool and restaurant are fabulous, although there are limited sunbeds, so you might have to be theer a little early in the busy months. Breakfast is included in the price an was a pur feast, even for those who prefer to stick with English food. If you are thinking of staying here do - all the pictures in the brochures are true to life don't go anywhere else. I pormise you won't be disapppointed.
